Jennette and Blackie Parallels & Athy Canonically Berating Lucas’ Apathy
Rereading and coming upon this scene fro chapter 42.
Old back in the day wmmap fans dragging Jen to hell and back only to turn and baby Blackie when according to the novel spoilers, they were basically the exact same thing smh
Upon reread, this chapter basically hints at Blackie and Jen parallels. The whole chapter was the scene where Jen is giving Athy the death ribbon, Athy and Jen having a cute sisters moment (and Athy recalling the old man saying how beings made of black magic won’t be happy/will cause suffering), then Felix goes and says how Athy has made a friend (aka, she’s finally becoming attached to someone else). Then right after, Athy basically asks Lucas if it’s possible for Blackie (who is a construct of Athy’s magic) to not disappear.
And then comes Lucas with the “just because you treat it like a pet doesn’t change the fact it’s a beast” (the constant ‘Jennette’s not even a human debate’ back then) and “don’t get attached because it’s not even alive” (the insinuation of those conversations being ‘Jennette is a thing and an object so you shouldn’t get worked up over her’).
And then Athy gets super upset and angry at him for his rude remarks, saying how even if Blackie is a non-living construct of her mana (Jennette being a supposed being made entirely of black magic according to the novel), it doesn’t change that she’s still attached and doesn’t want anything to happen to Blackie (Jen is still a being who deserves to be loved and has people who don’t want her to ‘disappear’ or have a bad end).
The audience has seen it as well, grown attached to and loved that little shadow colored puppy knowing FULL WELL it’s not even alive or human, but STILL getting attached and mourning after it. Jen is the same way. Even if she turned out to be nothing but a lump of black magic in the shape of a human, it doesn’t mean we’re not allowed to still want her to be happy! Like if you asked anyone back then, I’m sure no one would be able to deny that Blackie had a personality. Mischievous, protective, playful, Blackie was so expressive and human-like even though according to the great and powerful all knowing and coldly logical Lucas, Blackie was just an object existing to die. And so was Jen, a supposed child made of black magic yet has so much love and doubt that Lucas ALSO constantly dehumanizes, yet her humanity was constantly denied so much more in comparison to Blackie in the fandom. Athy herself, inhuman or not, loved them both!
TLDR; Athy says constructs of mana have rights and still deserve to live and be loved by people around them! So take that, everyone five-to-two years ago! And maybe even now! She also outright says that Lucas (with those thoughts) was on a high horse and has a crappy attitude. Which says a lot cough
yesterday on sky news, a uk news channel, the former israeli ambassador to the un (dan gillerman) described the palestinian people as “inhumane animals” and that he is “very puzzled at the constant concern which the world is showing for the palestinian people”. this is zionism, a cruel ideology that won’t stop till they eradicate palestinian’s. he was able to say this on one of the most watched news channels in my country with not rebuttal or condemnation from the pathetic reporter. we are going to see more and more of this genocidal rhetoric being outwardly spoken now because zionists know no matter what they say, no matter how much violence they spread they will get away with it.
i hope to see a free and liberated palestine in my lifetime. from the river to the sea palestine will be free 🇵🇸

If athy main flower is roses then wich one is jennette's?
Officially? I believe it's marguerite daisies. They are in her name, on her dresses, all around her.
In the language of flowers, daisies symbolize new beginnings and rebirth, in addition to love, cheerfulness, beauty, purity, innocence, hope, fun, and affection. They’re also commonly given to new mothers as a symbol of childbirth and motherhood. In spirituality, daisies represent faith and eternal life.
One of the earliest associations of daisies with childbirth comes from the ancient Celtic people. Although it’s darker than the symbolism of motherhood and childbirth attributed to daisies today, the ancient Celts believed that when a child or infant died – especially in childbirth – the gods would cover their graves with daisies in an attempt to console those who were grieving the loss.
Another early association of daisies with childbirth comes from Norse mythology. The daisy flower is associated with the goddess Freya who is a goddess of fertility, love, and beauty.
If you ask me I find Athy's association with roses a bit boring and cliche. Roses are beautiful but nearly every female lead has roses drawn around her. If it was ever special it's not anymore. Regarding Jennette and daisies I feel a similar way. It fits 50/50 I guess but the meaning is so universal it could also be applied to Athy. I like to associate Jennette with Angel trumpets and lp Athy with Bleeding Hearts.
Angel's Trumpet
Brugmansia suaveolens, Brazil's white angel trumpet, also known as angel's tears and snowy angel's trumpet. The Latin specific epithet suaveolens means “with a sweet fragrance”.
Every part of Brugmansia suaveolens is poisonous, with the seeds and leaves being especially dangerous. Ingestion of the plants can cause disturbing hallucinations, seizures, paralysis, coma, memory loss, and death. Angel's trumpets are so lethal that they have been used throughout history and literature as a means of killing a person or committing suicide. Supposedly, it was even used as an execution drug for criminals.
Traditional external uses have included the treating of aches and pains, headaches, infections, and as an anti-inflammatory. They have been used internally much more rarely due to the inherent dangers of ingestion.
Brugmansia is a symbol of danger, but it also represents vivacity. It is thought to be heralding a time of transformation and rebirth.
Devil's Trumpet
Datura is a genus of poisonous flowering plants belonging to the family Solanaceae. Throughout history, there have been stories about this plant being used to make poisons, witches' brews or love potions. Due to its toxicity and the shape of the flowers, they were granted the common name of Devil’s Trumpet. In some religions and cultures, Datura symbolizes a powerful and dangerous plant. Pictured above is the Purple Queen Devil's Trumpet.
I do not know how it happened... But Jennette joined in the costume joke. Perhaps she liked the idea of dressing up as a famous character from a cartoon about princesses? In addition, she chose the outfit of Erica, who turned out to be the lost sister of the princess.
In fact, I think Penelope and Jennette look very cute and even harmonious in the frame. Such lovely ladies from the ducal houses. I think they could somehow arrange a general tea party?
What do you think, after I finish this art (yes, it's only a color sketch). Should I draw Yvonne in a Rapunzel costume and Athanasia in an Anneliese costume?
