Morning Sickness (Adrian x MC)

This fanfic is a continuation of ‘The Next Chapter’ series, but takes place between ‘Guilt isn’t always a rational thing’ and ‘Truth doesn’t always set you free’, a couple of months into Amy’s pregnancy. 

Author’s Note: It’s been a while since I actually managed to finish a fanfic, as I did have some doubts about my writing ability for a little bit. However, I am rather happy as to how this turned out. Not GREAT, but alright.

Summary: Adrian awakes to find that Amy is not by his side; concerned for her well-being, he goes to find her, but isn’t prepared for what he finds.

Word Count: 2′200 ish 

Ever since Adrian found out that Amy was expecting, even the quietest noise would rouse him; he was almost always the first to rise. However, though he had never been a light-sleeper beforehand, the thought of harm befalling either her or their child was enough to keep him awake.

This night was no exception.

A loud clatter made Adrian stir; He began to open his eyes, simultaneously reaching across the bed as he takes in his darkened surroundings, his hair tousled by sleep. He outstretches his hand, hoping to encounter Amy’s sleeping form, but as his hand meets the cold mattress, it becomes apparent that she is no longer beside him.

‘Amy?’

As his vision adjusts, his gaze drifts to the four walls, his brow furrowing as a slither of light catches his attention from beyond the threshold of their room, its luminescence enough to draw out his sudden wariness. He removes himself from the bed, his footsteps light as he makes his way to the bathroom, a knot of uncertainty taking residency in his stomach; the door is not completely closed, instead hanging slightly ajar, as if the person inside the room no longer feels comfortable locking themselves in. He moves closer, gently grasping on to the handle as he eases the door open further, being sure not to startle its occupier as he makes his entrance, instead choosing to remain silent until he is able to assess the situation.
