i like the idea that kraglin is mostly xandarian but he definitely has a bit of krylorian and honestly who knows what else in him further down the line. hraxis-3 was a small mining planet that attracted a lot of refugees from other outposts that’ve been annihilated by the kree over the centuries simply because of its location on the edge of xandar space. as a result, it was a melting pot and most of the population was mixed in some way. he knows that while xandar was probably pissed that the destruction of the outpost crippled their export business in that sector of space, they honestly didn’t give a shit about the people. because if ignoring the annihilation of a handful of outposts in the backwaters of xandar space avoids another all out war with the kree, then they’ll continue looking the other way until peace talks are concluded. they don’t care for space mutts like him.

i love when kraglin is so casually a dick cause theres no malice behind it, it’s just the way he is. he tells the sobbing woman to shut up when they’re hiding from adam. he calls cosmo a bad dog and refused to take it back. he says adam’s name is stupid and tells him to pick something cooler. like yeah he’s considerably nicer than most of the ravagers we’ve met but that man was still raised by yondu and his clan of assholes. he’s blunt and indifferent and learned his social cues from petty thieves and war criminals. he’s a dick.

you know. there are so many good found family moments in vol3 but one thing i especially love is how much the people of knowhere genuinely seem to care for the guardians. during adam’s attack, that one guy who sounds on the verge of tears, desperately pleading for adam to stop beating on nebula… that lady who runs to her later on when she’s realigning her limbs, calls her by name and tries to help her up even when nebs shakes her off. the way steemie and several others join in on the group hug at the end. it doesn’t just feel like they’re tolerated, they feel loved.

Kraglin is stronger than any US Marine because he went almost two days committing to a bit that hurt Cosmo’s feelings without an ounce of remorse when Rocket couldn’t even last five minutes under the weight of her puppy eyes AND she got treats when he apologized.

canon connections i am interested in exploring further!
kraglin + rocket: kraglin was there during the whole “i know you because you’re me” scene with yondu. did they ever talk about it after yondu’s funeral? or did they just give each other a knowing nod and decide to ignore it ever happened? as far as i’m concerned, kraglin did survive the snap, so i’d also love to explore how their friendship could have grown during those 5 years + their new dynamic with rocket as captain of the guardians team 2.0.
kraglin + nebula: did they ever discuss her level of involvement in the mutiny? like, during the early days post-vol 2 when kraglin can’t help but wonder had she not incapacitated yondu, would things have gotten as bad as they did? would his friends still be alive otherwise? how did they move past that? i’d like to build upon their relationship during the snap years, same as rocket, but i’d also love to expand upon the way they are a direct parallel to peter/gamora, both viewed as second best to their respective fathers + how they differ in coping.

no but now that the brainrots back i need to talk abt the holiday special cause it gave me SO MUCH good content. pete and kraglin being confirmed siblings !! peter teaching kraglin about christmas and kraglin genuinely being into it !!! him maybe not totally understanding the reasoning behind it but helping pete gather materials to make a tree regardless !! them working together to make little gifts for yondu and the rest of the crew !! then him getting scolded for being “soft” and being told he should know better and you can literally see the foundation being built!!!! decades of learning to keep his mouth shut, not talk back, internalize shit and move on…. until it explode out of him at the most inopportune time :)

the evolution of kraglin’s nicknames for peter.
for a while he was just the terran brat. in the beginning, kraglin didn’t bother to remember the names of ego’s children. part of it was because he was still a kid himself when they started transporting and in those days, he was more focused on surviving the eclector than making friends with the cargo. however, he also knew they were never supposed to be a permanent fixture. maybe he knew better than to get attached... or maybe he was envious of the opulent life he thought they would have once handed over to a doting father. whatever the reason, that kind of fantasy abruptly stopped once they found out the truth about the monster they’d been serving.
when it was decided they weren’t handing the kid over, it became various teasing monikers of stowaway, orloni / rat, [ insert various monster names here ] bait, etcetera, though more often than not, it was simply little quill. he got away with that for a good few months until the kid finally grew a backbone and fought him over it. despite the bloody noses, the crooked bite marks, and a month of latrine duty, it at least earned the kid some respect in the end. it was easier calling him by name after that, which eventually turned into pete for the majority of their childhood.
the shift back to peter was gradual but unavoidable as they both became young adults and started drifting apart, kraglin focusing on becoming the first mate yondu needed while peter seemed to always have one foot out the door. he’s mononymously referred to as quill once kraglin realizes that yondu still favors the terran even when it becomes apparent that quill will never prioritize the ravagers as kraglin believes he should. this is when the largely one sided animosity krag feels towards peter has reached its peak.
the first time he calls him pete in over a decade is at yondu’s funeral, when kraglin reverts to that childhood bond as the last remaining family tie he has. it’s a lifeline and an apology. it takes a little while to sort through his complicated emotions regarding the other and fully repair the bond they once had, but once they do, capt’n becomes interchangeable with pete and kraglin will continue to use both for as long as pete’ll let him, even long after he returns to earth.

xandar is largely an oceanic planet with cities build on artificial atolls so you’d assume that water would play an important role in the people’s everyday life…. but kraglin did not grow up on xandar. in fact, he has spent the majority of his life on either an asteroid outpost or a ravager ship in the vastness of open space. therefor i present to you a useless hc: kraglin doesn’t know how to swim.
