July 29th, 1999! Welcome to the first of (maybe) a new series where I pick a random date, pull up the TV listings for that date, and find three shows that failed and forgotten. Today we look at The Teen Files, Love Street and The Chimp Channel! Let me know what you think!

the rafah border crossing could close as soon as next month, leaving people in gaza with no way out. please continue to fund trusted people who are on the ground. do not donate to anyone who does not know what they are doing or how to get funds moved properly, or those who have no connections to volunteers in cairo who are working tirelessly to transition traumatized people as smoothly as possible while the egyptian government does squat. many sources are aggregating vetted funds like the linktree to several funds below.

voyager as a show is so driven by questions of humanity and personhood so its wonderful how in both warhead and prototype it’s harry and b’elanna’s curiosity and empathy for new, unfamiliar forms of artificial life that get them into trouble as well as get them out of it. that’s star trek at its best imo

It feels like such an unpopular opinion these days but I'd much rather a story take a big swing and miss than just be a tepid, lightly-tread path. I'd much rather writers take big risks, play with expectations, subvert tropes and ultimately maybe fail a little bit than have this constant stream of content that can be summed up in trite soundbites or carved up into 30 second clips.

I enjoy Kira/Keiko as a ship, but I wish that most of the discussion about them didn’t center on the “O’Brien polycule”. I’m interested in how their dynamic changed from vaguely adversarial in “In the Hands of the Prophets” to friendly in later seasons. I want to know how they navigated the differences in their opinions on faith and religion. I want to know if/how Keiko’s thoughts on Bajoran religion changed over time. I want to know if Kira experienced any lingering resentment toward Keiko. I want to know how long it took them to become friends – if one or both of them made a great effort to mend the divide between them. I want to know if they have disagreements after that or if they carefully try to avoid speaking about topics where their opinions differ. There’s a lot that’s potentially interesting about their dynamic outside of how it relates to Miles.

First time lying beside someone (unable to sleep for many reasons)
[Patreon | Ko-fi]
B'Elanna knew Seven didn't sleep but she had her lie down next to her anyway.
"I won't be able to relax with you standing over me," she'd said.
B'Elanna's skin was warm, and her breathing was steady as she slept. The word 'comfort' sprang to mind, aside 'desire.'
And for a moment Seven was glad she'd been able to experience fear - for the purpose of having it eased by so simple a rhythm.
