"Hm. Maybe that's just due to the difference between our families..." She ponders. The threats Yuri's clan dealt with were of a slightly different nature than the ones hers did. That one would be picked off slowly while the other wiped out in what seemed to be one fell swoop...

She sighs and puts her arm around Yuri in a half-hug.

"I hate it too. But if it wasn't ours, it would be the next one, or the one after that. I'd rather face it myself than make my children or grandchildren do it." She misses her dad. She misses a lot of people. "We'll get this figured out. We just have to work together."

"Well, to be fair, my family has been slowly picked off over the last fifty years....one shrine maiden at a time. I was supposed to die last year, but I survived...Guess that might be the wrench in the works, there..."

And the Moon Festival was coming up again, though she was hoping to get ahead of all the craziness so people could enjoy the festival in peace this year.

"Then there's so many choices, it's kind of scary...no clan doesn't have some skeletons in the closet after all."

Yuri moved closer to cling onto Kaguya with a pouty face.

Kaguya, on principle, doesn't fight people (unless it's absolutely necessary / in self defense.) Humans can be nasty, but her job is dealing with the bigger, older, even nastier things out there.

Anyway I'm retooling Kaguya's pkmn verse. Tldr;

Her family is sort of a proto-Aura Guardian like order, harboring people with aura and psychic abilities in times when they were Less Accepted, as well as collecting knowledge on their arts and the world in general.

Possibly ransei/warrior adjacent because that's my brand.

Used their skills as .... not quite monster hunters but monster deal-with-ers. If you had a pokemon problem you went to them, particularly a pokemon of the very powerful and maybe a little supernatural variety. think the enraged lords in pla.

In modern day they honestly do (did) much of the same thing, subduing large and dangerous pokemon and generally going around and helping keep the peace when it comes to that sort of thing and other weird old mystical bullshit that definitely exists.

Based around the Sinjoh ruins area, somewhere in the north of Johto. Maybe Kitakami adjacent?

Still cursed. Everyone else still hecking dies. (More like 80-90% of everyone, but still a lot.)
