nick wasn’t really known for being seen at the beach. yes, he went, but it wasn’t very often. and when he did it was usually to attempt to surf. which he really wasn’t the greatest at, but he enjoyed the sport nonetheless. today was different, though. he decided to bring his dogs out, let them play around in the water and get a bit of exercise while he jogged up and down the shoreline.. hearing his gym coach’s voice in his head as he did so. something about the sand being really good for burning calories.. who knew. but after a few laps of that, nick had had enough and he decided to  find a place for himself to relax until his dogs were ready to go home. but as he tried to find a place that suited him, he found himself standing aimlessly. that was until a voice broke his train of thought, his brows instantly knitting together. “feeding you grapes? are you some long lost greek goddess or something?” he blurted out before actually allowing his gaze to fall to her. “never mind, your looks answered that for me.” he said with a small grin, stepping out of her sunlight with a raised brow. “i don’t happen to have grapes on hand, but i’m pretty sure i can deal with getting you a cocktail considering i wanted one as well.” he explained, glancing towards the bar behind them. “what can i get for you?”

having expected much more of a difficult response, nova couldn’t help her crooked grin at the shameless compliment. “ flattery gets you everywhere, but don’t think i’ll forget that you didn’t provide my grapes, ” she replied, her tone flat as she craned her neck to look past the man and to the bar. while she had intended to refuse, not to actually recruit someone to wait on her hand in foot, but that drink was mighty tempting. “ mm, since you mention it--.. a margarita sounds awfully refreshing right about now. ” while she could appreciate the gesture, nova wasn’t actually expecting an offer, so once she had revealed her drink of choice she reached behind her back and tied the thin straps back together to keep her suit in place before pulling herself gracefully to her feet. “ i’ll join you. ”

     It was a beautiful day, something actually quite familiar in the sleepy town of Aston. The waves crashed onto the sandy beaches, making the white sand a dark grey and the sun casted rays of light, piercing the even bluer sky. The idyllic scene before her filled her with peace, something she had not felt in a very long time. Her mind had been overflowing with family, work and personal matters, she felt as if it was going to explode any second now. When she was a child and her parents would fight ( which was often ), she would hide under the cherry blossom tree her grandmother planted when she was born. She would watch the sweeping buds blossom into lovely luminescent flowers that filled the air with a rich aroma. But now that she was too big to fit under such a tree, and she’d rather not have her mother find her this time – she escaped to the beach. The photographer sought solace in the tremulous waters before her, and the warm sand plains she could relax on. She had a book in her hand, one that had been collecting dust on her nightstand, and a bottle of water. She didn’t plan on swimming, but she had a two piece under her clothes just in case. “Well perhaps I’ll just go find a big leaf and start fanning you m’lady? Or is it my queen?” Zinnia teased, a hint of a smirk matching the woman’s. Taking off her own sunglasses, placed them atop of her head, her hair blowing back as she studied the woman’s familiar features. “Nova? Is that you? Little Nova?” A joyous smile crossed her face as she realized who the woman was – though much bigger now, for the girl was a lot younger when they knew each other. “Look at you, all grown up.” 

nova focused her eyes on the woman, instantly recognizing who she was. zinnia hollis. an amused expression danced over her features at the realization, even more so as she had gone along with what nova said. “that would be great, truly,” she bared a grin, reaching behind her and swiftly retying her suit so she could properly sit up without exposing herself. “little nova. I haven’t heard that in-- well, probably since the last i saw you,” she mused, swinging her long legs over the side of her chaise lounge. “i didn’t realize you were back--- you left this town in the dust not long before i did.”

with her chair planted firmly in the sand, nova laid on her stomach under the sun, her bikini top untied to avoid any tanlines. she had decided that she would finally spend the day doing something other than packing and cleaning up her family home or attempting to work from her tiny apartment. it was time nova took a day for herself. while she had grown accustomed to hitting shops in soho or on a yacht among the rich and famous, she still loved nothing more than just being the beach. bathing in the sun, letting the tide lap over her toes, that was bliss. nova was completely relaxed, in her own world, when a shadow blocked her sun and brought her back into reality. lifting her just her head, she spoke. “you’re in my sun, if you’re not bringing me a cocktail or planning on feeding me grapes, i would greatly appreciate if you’d step aside,” a teasing smile graced the brunette’s lips as she peered up over her raybans, letting her sunglasses slide down the bridge of her nose so she could get a clear look at the culprit.

“Four years…” Avery breathed out slowly, letting the span of time she spent away from Aston weigh on her mind as she leaned over the railing overlooking the beach. Everything and nothing had changed — was that even possible? Sighing softly, she turned to the person next to her with a half-smile playing on her lips, “To be honest, I never pictured myself moving back here again, it’s oddly… cathartic, being home? I guess LA traffic was beginning to get to me. Anyway, enough about me. What have you been up to?” 

“ i can relate to that,” nova forced a small smile of empathy. hearing someone else’s thoughts of returning made her consider her own, and realize how much she tried to push the thought away. she had come back and busied herself to the point that the thought didn’t cross her often, she didn’t let it. she could definitely relate to missing the hustle and bustle of the city. “this and that,” she replied vaguely, quick to change the subject. “what brings you back here?”

“ you are absolutely shameless, ” nova laughed, rolling her eyes as she turned to head toward the water. while glancing back at the man she knew was following her, she continued to tease him. “ i know it’s been a while, but you could at least try to contain yourself.”

letting out a chuckle, he nodded his head softly. “just blame the alcohol. it’s the best excuse in the world.” taking her hand gentle, he cleaned it up so he could more clearly see the cut on her hand. holding up his finger to motion one second, he hiked himself up onto the bar, swinging his legs over only the repeat the action a few moments this, this time with a small first aid kit in hand. he kept them handy for, well, any drunken falls in the bar. “might sting a little, sorry.” he spoke quickly, not to interrupt he talking, he has wiped the area down with a small alcohol wipe. “yikes. that sucks. aren’t those things pretty expensive, too? heels?” he asked curiously as he bandaged her hand up. “i can patch up your knee and you can hangout for a bit, if you want. i have plenty of more alcohol if you’re still in the mood to drink.”

“oh it was completely the alcohol. i mean, my job is to be able to walk steadily, i think i’ve perfected it at this point,” nova joked, wiggling her fingers slightly as to brace herself before the alcohol wipes made contact with her wounds. while scrunching her nose, nova kept going to distract herself from the burn. “they are a little pricy. my most lucky pair, until tonight, i guess.” she let out a quick breath as if she’d been holding it, already feeling relief from the pressure of the bandage against her hand. “ hey now, i thought you were all closed up for the night?” she mused, a teasing smirk gracing her lips as she looked back up at her rescuer. “ well, now i might need another shot or two to numb the pain, since you’re offering. ”

“ i don’t know, this confession might be too much for little ol’ me to keep in. i’m sure you could figure out a way to keep me quiet though, i’m not opposed to bribery. if nothing else, this whole thing has been a learning experience for ms. mitchell, hasn’t it? glitter glue might be much safer, leave the loose glitter to the pros, like myself. if you unleash me with the stuff in your class you won’t want me to be cleaning it up. your class will look like you’re attending a black tie gala every day. don’t’ya think your kids would love all that?”

“nova hart has been up to absolutely nothing?” gemma questioned in a shocking tone for dramatic purposes. “that sounds fake, but okay.” she eyed the other with a joking expression clear as day across her features. gemma know very well that a lot had recently changed for the both of them. somehow, those changes have led them back to this town. “well, i know this isn’t the exact ideal area for a place to participate in nothing.” now that was true, there were very few leisurely places in the city of aston but regardless–this was home whether they liked it or not. “oh, yeah. if it’s not one thing it’s another and whatever the thing is, it’s exhausting. plenty busy is kind of an understatement.”

“ i wish it was, to be honest, ” nova admitted, offering her friend a crooked grin. while her days were once packed full of meetings, shoots, and nights that turned to morning out with friends. aston wasn’t exactly at the same pace. “ so far i’ve been getting the old house cleaned up. it’s been a slow process, but i’m the only one who’s willing to get it out of the way.” and nova didn’t mind it that way. her siblings were doing their own things, chrissy was in her last year of her master’s program and bryce was buried in schoolwork, as well as much too young to be dealing with all of their dead father’s baggage. while probably the least responsible one of the three, nova was still the eldest after all. “ i figured as much, i was wondering if i was going to ever get a second with you since we’ve both been back. so far i’ve just seen you from afar, always on a mission. surely you’re not forgetting to take a minute for yourself amongst all the chaos, are you? ”
