A Blue Note compilation from the 90's filled with non Blue Note cuts taken by Dean Rudland from Polydor, Emi, United Artists catalogs but I guess at this time they had all the same owner. Nevermind, this one gathers some incandescent jams from diverse origins (India, Brazil, Europe, US of course), the only common point being : burn the dance-floor. Was bought in Avignon (France) in the 90's. Highlights : a lot, but These Ananda Shankar tunes still really impress me.

“The pinacle of the evening (…) was provided by a multi-talented gnome from Brazil named Sivuca”. This is an extract of a review of a Sivuca concert. You can read this on the back cover. Sivuca is indeed talented and not very tall. It could be added that he has not an average voice either and that this album was an opportunity for him to present his brazilian roots to a western audience. The only compromise here is a superb rendition of Ain’t no sunshine. Highlight. The seller just added this to the 5 € pile when I was about to leave. You can call this luck.

It's 15 and still in shrink, bought from a famous rocker from Nice. This Barry 7´s connectors is a compilation of library music. It is actually quite diverse and enjoyable listening. Some electronic pioneers, some orchestral weirdos, open this door to the strange and wonderful world of library music. Highlight : amour, vacances et baroque de Paul Piot et Paul Guiot.

What The fuck is this was my mind’s message after seeing this cover. This moustache trio from Venezuela borrows one song from Pierre Alain Dahan and Mat Camison, french duo well known among library music lovers but The highlights here are Sin tu querer, The kind of cheesy pop tune you like to mumble and the gently beatlesque Mi mente en El pasado, original composition of one member of the team, Douglas Herrera. 5 €, cheap travel from my usual market.

Ok Lucio, I really enjoyed you this past week and maybe this is The time to find you a proper place in this neverending collection. I found you for 1 euro in my usual spot in a delicious early 70's Vogue pressing and I was charmed by the peaceful mood I felt in this album. So thank you.

Who ? Kraftwerk
What ? Electric Cafe, released in 1986. US edition.
Where ? In a sunday flea market in Mazaugues, Var, France
Why ? Well, this is Kraftwerk, non ?
When ? 2009
Was it cheap ? 1 euro
Highlights ? Released in 1986, 5 years after their previous album, Computer world, this is maybe the first time that Kraftwerk was not sounding ahead of its time. On the contrary, the music here seems to be have been already heard in the early 80′s from all the people who were obviously influenced by Kraftwerk. The early 80′s electro movement had been already digested in Prince 1999 album for example. Anyway, this is still very good. The highlight is for me the hit single, The telephone call.

Who ? Ernest Djédjé, the King of Ziglibithy, a genre he invented and was the main (only?) representant of in Ivory Coast until his mysterious death in 1983. He was 35.
What ? His second album, released in 1977.
Where ? In a sunday flea market close to my home. I paid a quick visit and saw this bunch of water damaged African LP’s.
Why ? They were all releases from second part of the 70′s, I was curious even if I had no knowledge of what I was taking.
When ? 2010 ? something like that. A sunday for sure :)
Was it cheap ? 1 euro each
Highlights ? This album is a winner. When I finally listened to it, a few days after finding it, you should have seen my face : it contained one song I was in love with, taken from mp3blog internet days (from Soulsides if you know this), without knowing where It was coming from. So this Zadie-bobo came out of the speakers and It was ‘wow’. Zibote also is worth listening. A wonderful feel good African album.

Who ? Africa funk, a various artist compilation to document the sound of 1970′s Funky Africa.
What ? Compilation of African funk nuggets released in 1998 on Harmless.
Where ? Certainly in the Virgin store of my town that still had some vinyl section.
Why ? Well, I was certainly browsing records on a sunday afternoon to be finally attracted by this cover. I was always a fan of Funk and this African flavoured compilation instantly appealed to me. I had to own this.
When ? End of 90′s
Was it cheap ? Normal price for a new record.
Highlights ? This compilation gathers a lot of different things. You have Fela, Lafayette Afro-Rock band, Oneness of Juju, Wali and the Afro Caravan, Mombasa ... In the end, Recordings from all over the world and especially Europe by African artists. Every track is good, but my favourite has always been Weya by Manu Dibango, also because I recognized in it a sample by The Jungle Brothers.

Who ? Gal Costa - A Todo Vapor
What ? Brazilian gatefold first pressing. I owned two others different pressing, that I sold. Among them was a one record version of what is originally a two record set. The other was a two record later release, more clean. So why I kept this one ? It goes well with the raw music inside. And it is original ;)
Where ? Ebay from a brazilian seller
Why ? This LP documents the raw spirit of Gal Costa live apparitions at this moment of her career, beginning of the 70′s. This is very often wild, with loud bass and distorded guitars and voice but the very best part of it is the second record, the intimate part of the set. When she is not shouting wild any longer, she is the most captivating.
When ? around 2006 - 2007
was it cheap ? Certainly not but not overpriced either. I can’t remember exactly.
Highlights ? Try this and this version of a Roberto Carlos song. And the whole album is worth checking out.
