game board pieces

the first part to making the game piece was to make a skeleton which was used to outline the head and bust but the horns are just sculpey out of tin foil and then layered super Sculpey on top of it then shaped the sculpey into the model we wanted. to add the details the hair texture and scales around the edge of the face i used a hook like tool to scratch the lines into the sculpey.

because of my own error i was unable to photograph the skeleton and tin foil progress on account of my phone being unavailable on that day, In future projects I will make use of my friends around me and ask that they take pictures for me so that i have more evidence of my work.

then we cooked the sculpey when we where happy with how it looked, after that we painted the model so that it looked like a game piece, the snail originally was meant to be on she shoulder but fell of while baking so i stuck it to the base.

the colour scheme of the head and horns were light yellow since this character is found in the desert and so has similar colouring to the sand being that it is reptilian like and so has a camouflage evolution traits; while the cloths are the normal colour of a common outfit in an attempt to show that these creates are more common on the island.   

finally we painted a board square and made a card which the player would gain if they landed on the space, at the moment i don’t have a picture of the card.

the desert was chosen since the creature originates from the desert so it’s like you have entered it’s land.

my lizard man was based on drawing of lizards in everyday clothes which first started off as conspiracy theory which started out as a antisemitism but later on was used to make fun of politicians which sparked people to start drawing them as a joke.

Sculpey research

The video above was made by Jake Corrick which starts out with him saying to use tin foil to make the basic shape of the model you’re going to make so you can keep the Sculpey thin so that it is less likely to crack when baked; next he added a simple layer of sculpey to get the idea of the structure of the body.

Then as the video progresses he adds more detail which slowly get more complicated to do and introduces the rake which he uses to smooth of by taking of clay when you scrape it so it ends up even to the point you want it to be and to do the whole sculpey at once; Alcohol can be used to help smooth the model but we won’t do this.

Box trolls is a movie made by the art of stop-motion and is about a boy named eggs who was raised by box trolls and the red hats who wish to kill all the box trolls so that the leader can gain a white hat.

Madame Tutli Putli

Madame Tutli Putli is a stop-motion film made by Chris Lavis and is about a woman on a train and her reactions to what is going on around her during the trip; the interesting thing about the animation however is the fact that the eyes where put into the film in editing so that the characters had human eyes while the rest of the body’s and places were made by hand so the models for the people didn’t have properly sculpted eyes, this may of being do to help capture the emotions the woman felt.

this is the still shots of the fake company intro for the movie trailer we are making

to make the trailer we filmed each important part of the plot lines we had made up and then take the clips and edited it together, then we went to a free music website and put into the trailer.

the clips where cut with the razor tool so that for each clip it was only the bits i wanted and then used the effects tab to add fades to the clip.

shots like the cup ‘falling over’ where not used in the final trailer since the verdict on that clip was that it didn’t fit the theme of the rest of the trailer.

the trailer was based around the dark and showed people trying to keep a light constantly on but failing in which theoretically be consumed by the darkness; and by having the use of candles instead of torches to give a sense of desperation.

the drawing rotation was done by making a collage and then I traced over the collage to make a city for an island, afterwards; we made copies of the collage we had done so that we could add more detail such as a simple creature or object slowly throughout each copy to make an animation. 

First of all I started with the bird, since it was one of the ‘more alive’ aspects of my work that would be harder to animate so at first i put all the work into that. As a bird has a mind of its own. Then I did the mouse silhouette in the window for a similar reason. I chose to do this secondly since the animation itself was smaller and easier to do. (I had seen a dead rat this day and remembered how they look) The flag and the shadows in the window were done at the same time gradually. the flag was originally supposed to go upwards in the animation but since i accidentally started drawing them on the wrong frames (due to a mistake in mixing up the order of the sheets as i was animating) the flag ended up swaying downwards.

the final addition was the water, which i made to look like it was leaking from the window. this was added so that you could see how water was stored in the city and how stable the city has being put together.

I feel like the bird didn’t have a persistent body-shape which is something i would work harder to fix if i had another opportunity to.

I am proud of the cathedral and the detail I added since during the tracing it was difficult to see the guidelines due to the colour scaling of the greys and blacks, a lot of the cathedral was my own work without tracing.

the singular panels and the work in process aren’t photographed since I was busy with getting most of the detail onto the piece.

frankenweenie

Frankenweenie is about a boy and his dog, the dog is name Sparky who dies early into the movie; the boy Vincent is sad about Sparky’s death but in a science class hears the teacher talk about triggering muscles in the dead with electricity which gives Vincent an idea. Vincent uses his knowledge to reanimate Sparky. When other students try to do the same as him for the science project it goes wrong and they make violent creatures which run a muckery around town.

Tim Burton utilises the book known as Frankenstien which is very clear in the movie’s plot, there is even easter eggs and references in scenes such as the the poodle getting a white lighting streak in it’s bee hive style hair which is a reference to the bride of Frankenstien.

The plot starts off with the dog very much alive and shows the relationship between the Vincent and Sparky, the movie then brings in a science fair and baseball game one of which is a future conflict but also brings in the current conflict of the baseball game which is where the dog dies, then later after bringing the dog back the science fair comes back into play when one of the other kids find out about Sparky’s second life he bribes Vincent into telling him how he did it then the other kids find out and all try to do it for the science fair which goes wrong.

for starters the kids sound like kids so thats good, but then theres the accents of the characters which helps see the characters personality such as “weird girl” who had an emotionless voice till “Mr Whiskers” fuses with a bat where there is a hint of confusion in her voice.    

The character Vincent was originally from a short animation in which he is shown to not be all there and a bit weird; this relates to Frankenweenie since the boy which the dog belongs to is Vincent, and its possible that his mum brought the dog for him since he just stayed in his room being weird all the time.

Vincent Price was an actor who mainly appeared in the horror genre such as Edward Scissorhands, house of wax and the fly.
