The corruption on Varus’ arms seemed to squirm on their own at the gesture towards Rhaast. Again, the odd sense of familiarity came to Varus as he glanced over the others weapon. He had no knowledge of the weapon prior to now but Pallas could not stop trying to get his attention. It seemed hostile towards the others weapon. Cautious if you will.  Varus took note of how he referred to his weapon as if it were alive, or sentient. He wasn’t stupid, he could see the similarities between his bow and Kayn’s scythe. It seemed to be something of similar...origin.  “An ally?” He huffed “How amusing.” He held his silence, allowing for pallas’ bow to settle somewhat despite its agitated excitement. “Alright fine. I’ll humour the idea. But if you at all give me any reason to believe you will use what I teach you to betray Ionia- I will not hesitate to kill you.”

Despite the wealth of his family and parents,  Varus had had only a handful of companions in his life. His most memorable and cherished was a dog. He received it as a gift from his parents as a hunting companion, initially for when Varus would practice his archery outside of training as well as a companion. The breed was a formosan mountain dog, a beautiful golden and white one, and he named her Yusha. She lived alongside him for many years, his most loyal and trusted friend. It was shortly after getting married and having a son of his own that Yusha had started to grow old, much too old to hunt and play like she did before. She had proven herself a great friend to both him and his newborn son, a beloved member of his family. She spent the last of her years protecting and loving Varus’ new family, till passing in her sleep at the age of 14.He has refused to get a new dog ever since. There was only one Yusha in his life, and he wasn’t going to replace her.(( Image of dog breed / colouration under the cut ))

Varus raised a brow in thought, help? He didn’t like the idea of ‘having’ help but he’d have to learn to swallow his pride if he was ever going to truly reach his goal. He hated himself for even considering it, but having a skilled ally such as Kayn on his side didn’t seem like too bad an idea. An annoying idea that he didn’t want to consider, but one he was considering nonetheless. Raising himself to his feet he slowly paced around shaking his head. He really didn’t want to waste his time, but the persistence of this one was going to prove annoying if he didn’t comply. He thought about just walking away. He really did try.  It took a long silence, but Varus had finally spoke “Oh really? You’d use this knowledge to protect Ionia and seek vengeance on the Noxians? Is that true?” He held a firm gaze with him, searching for honesty in his answer.

The pure surprise, and confusion that had befell the archers face was something not easily earned. He remained silent, eyeing the other up and down still trying to understand what had brought such an odd request on. Varus then sighed, releasing some of the tension, and hostility in his arms. It seemed that this renowned assassin wanted him to teach him how to use a bow and arrow? Fascinating. But whether he would like to humour him or not, he still needed to tell him no. The look this guy was giving him, made Varus want to take a step back, it was intense and filled with a determination that he could clearly recognise. It didn’t make him any more inclined to wasting time here teaching him. He had no desire to. Still... It made him somewhat anxious being... respected? “Well, you’ve heard of the invasions surely, I was there when it happened to my town... I survived for a reason.” Varus wasn’t proud for being one of the few survivors of his towns invasion, if anything he felt ashamed for not protecting his family. But he knew he had had no choice. “Look, my answer is no. I have no time to spend doing anything but hunting down the ones who destroyed my home.”

Varus refused to drop his guard, despite the others odd claim- an interesting choice of words too. Varus had noted that. Instead he thoughtfully raised his head to properly look over the other, as if to try and read his intentions. It seemed he had heard of him after all. It also occurred to Varus who this may be, the iconic scythe and presence gave it all away. This was the infamous Zed’s very own student.  Puzzled was his expression as he tried to understand what this man wanted with him. He hadn’t shown any hostility yet but rather wanted to ask about his prowess in archery? What a strange person. Still Varus decided to humor him somewhat. “And if I told you I could take your head clean off in the blink of an eye, right now, would that be enough to understand my ‘talent’?” He huffed at his own comment. It wasn’t a lie, he could easily do it to any normal person standing in Kayn’s place. But then again, this wasn’t your average man. “If you’ve heard the stories, then you should know I am not a force to be taken lightly when wielding my bow.”

Varus held a strong unwavering gaze on the other, keeping his bow pulled back and ready for trouble. However, when the other showed his hands in defence, well he felt the tension in his drawn back bow loosen and drop slightly so it wasn’t aiming at his face anymore... Just his feet. Raising an eyebrow curiously at the comment “No harm? And how am I to believe the words of a stranger?” He wasn’t pointing a drawn arrow towards him anymore, but the bow remained unsheathed, ready, just in case. He wasn’t going to take his chances and drop his guard completely, after all, Pallas who was usually so quiet began to stir violently in the back of his mind, It was rare for him to be so active without reason. Varus could feel how Pallas was cautious of the other, something he had never known his darkin capable of feeling. This peaked Varus’ interest very much so.  “I am Varus. You may have heard of me, or may not. Does not matter-” He then cautiously eyed the mans scythe, a very obvious and dangerous tool... but he could feel an eery sense of familiarity from it, one that seemed to be the cause for uncharacteristically stirring pallas up.

♡ + cooking?
[Send me ♡ + a word, and I’ll write a headcanon]
Varus never cooked much before he was married, he didn’t need to. He came from a well off family, his parents made a good name for themselves and had a handful of hired staff to care for the property, including their only child, Varus. The meals served to him as a child were considered lavish- and while he hadn’t much else to compare it to he still very much appreciated them. When Varus met his wife to be, he had never experienced home made cooking before- After all, all he had known as a child was merely a paid service- his parents never had the time to personally care for him, not that they didn’t love him it was simply difficult for them to be with him often, especially when they worked for the capital of their region. The first time he had tasted Erisa’s cooking, he couldn’t explain why, but even though it had been burnt (much to Erisa’s disappointment and eager attempts to try again-) He had eaten all of it, and it didn’t taste bad, but it wasn’t fantastic. Still… Varus had loved it. It was handmade for him - out of love, not as a paid service. and that alone made his heart swell with a newfound feeling.Varus and Erisa then spent a lot of time together cooking and helping each other to learn more recipes. It became their tradition to cook new things for each other in a show of love and appreciation for the other- and while they improved all the more, making delightful meals. Varus will never forget the first homemade meal he had ever eaten, and would always argue it to be the best meal he’s ever had. Now, it’s just a painful reminder of what he has lost, even if he still cooks all kinds of new recipes to place as offerings for his deceased wife and son. It’s simply a tradition he couldn’t stop in fear of truly losing the memory of them.

Varus could remain here all day if he wanted to, in fact that was his plan- originally. He often had to retreat to refocus himself on his purpose, lest the hunger of his corruption drive him to purposeless slaughter. The line between was a thin one indeed, one varus had to be careful not to cross at all times.  The ambience of the usual forest chatter shifted slightly, a change in frequency of birds, a sudden movement of water from fleeing fish- these changes weren’t enough to cause immediate urgency but Varus had to wonder if something had caused the small disturbance. So he opened his eyes, carefully, till spotting the difference in what was an empty space before.  Another person. Not any ordinary person by the looks of it, he held an interesting presence, one that lacked a fear for his corruption- why else would they wander so close to him? Unless they were stupid of course... Then it suddenly hit him like a wave of panic- his bow pulled from his arms corruption on instinct, wasting no time he had drawn his bow in the others direction, holding it there as he demanded. “Who are you?”

Closed starter for @shiedaiisms A cool breeze blew through the archers hair, gentle but just enough to stir the waters of the calm lake below him. Besides the slight chill, the weather could be considered perfect, a few clouds here and there but the warmth of the sun easily made it a good day to be outside. Varus allowed himself to take a deep breath in, allowing the peacefulness of the setting  to wash over him and refresh himself.   Seating himself by the water’s edge, he closed his eyes and began to meditate. Allowing himself to listen in on each sound of the forest, the birds, the wind through the trees, the wash of the water as fish swam about. Varus much preferred this over the busy markets and streets of Ionias villages and capitals- He always found them much too noisy for his liking, too many people, too much chaos to keep track of. Not that it mattered, it was better that he spent little time in public spaces, his corrupted appearance alone was enough to scare and make people wary… No it was better this way, he’d only ever go into towns to trade and get supplies but other than that, he’d spend his time on the road, tracking his next target. But… today was going to be different. Varus couldn’t quite put his finger on why, or how but something nagged at him- he just had a hunch something was going to be different today.

First of 3 (technically four!) requests that opened (and then closed) a couple days ago! Kayn and Varus from League of Legends for @shieda-kayn You know the problem with the edgelord and his cooler more vicious counterpart is that there’s so much conflicting official promo art… -sigh- EDIT! Forgot- pose reference from over yonder!
