Oh my god, I just remembered there’s an army base in Sunnydale, or right next to it — it’s where they got the rocket launcher. Why the fuck was the Initiative set up at the college and not, you know, on the army base????

You know they get all kinds of mileage out of Xander having memories of being an army guy, but not one instance of Buffy’s 18th century lady knowledge coming in handy. And I was going to jokingly say there’s some sexism for you, but actually I think I mean that for serious.

Oh man I just read a Tara take that was the most… most most in a bad way. What show were they watching but for real what show were they watching where being a belligerent liar was a core thread in Tara’s narrative?

Yeah, I mean I’ll confess that I’ve watched it a couple of times now. I like the concept and the overall vibes and emotional beats even if some of them are hollow. Plus it’s that particular kind of bad — or really mediocre in this case — that activates my “I can fix him” thing for stories, so it’s fun thinking about different ways to improve it.
I’ll have to check out those deleted scenes; they sound interesting.
Just began watching Wish and.... uhm definitely some INTERESTING choices there
I am barely at the beginning and there already so MUCH I don't get, bust most of all the songs and exposition devices. If we already got the introductory book drawings intro, why do we need to recap all that inform in Welcome to Rosas? The only new information that songs adds is the wish ceremony, and WE STILL get an info dump about it like 2 minute later! And the song doesn't convey anything about Asha's character or objectives outside of the fact that she is an enthusiastic young woman which. We already knew.
And At all costs is... weird? I heard it was apparently supposed to originally be a love song that got readapted and... it shows? I don't know they are there singing at the magic bubbles like they are the love of their lives and it feels weird ok

Yeah, I see people tear into to this movie like it the worst thing ever, but the reality is it’s not hugely terrible, just hugely disappointing as Disney’s Centennial outing. It was underdeveloped — or rather I suspect overdeveloped by executives that had many strong opinions about what the Centennial movie should be and no understanding of what makes a good movie — and the characters were thin and you can’t think about the plot too hard, but it was fine. Not good, but fine. Some pretty interesting ideas that just weren’t terribly well executed on.

Wait, why did the Initiative set their soldiers up undercover as grad students? Obviously the Doylist reason is that this is the college season and we needed them tied to the college, but in universe that makes no sense. Like, why wouldn’t you just set up a medical research lab and, you know, just not tell anyone that the medical research is on demons? Or shit, there must be some other cover that they are already using for all the various scientists that work in the lab, why don’t you just extend that to the soldiers as well?
I mean, not only does it not make sense to have them all living double lives when you don’t have to — Riley literally has to grade papers — it’s just not sustainable. They are apparently doing the work of the grad student, what happens when they graduate? Or is the plan for them to not ever graduate and hope that no one notices that the guys in Lowell House have been here forever now? And what do Riley’s parents think is going on? Presumably they knew he was in Special Ops in the army, and then he what, quit to go to grad school and then just never graduate?

Not that I’m not glad for it, but why didn’t Riley just kill Spike in “Into the Woods”? I can’t imagine he’d have any moral compunctions against it in his present state of mind, if he ever did, and there’s no way he’d ever get caught. Even if he had stayed in Sunnydale, do you think any of the rest of them would have given more than a moment’s thought to it if Spike just stopped showing up?

That moment in an East of the Sun and West of the Moon story when they’ve got the candle and you’re just hoping praying that they won’t do it this time, but they always do. Fucking kills me, every time

Hilarious the things Spike has to “admit” to to cover up the fact he’s in love with Buffy and has zero chill about it. “I was sniffing her sweater in a predator way” “I was hiding in your basement so I could steal your stuff” “I was going for a walk between parts and… other parts of town and also your hair is stupid.”

Something about Riley’s inadequacy arc in s5 and how everyone wants to save the world but nobody wants to help do the dishes.

There’s a lot of talk about how Riley has nothing going on in his life after the Initiative shut down beyond being Buffy’s boyfriend, but isn’t he a grad student? Like, I get that the whole Lowell House thing was a cover for this government organization, but he was also a real TA for a real psych class that real students were taking. Seems like maybe that’s something Riley could be spending all his newfound free time on.

Does cousin Beth also think she’s a demon? We’re told the women in Tara’s family are part demon, or so they’re told, does that include Beth? When Beth calls Tara a disgusting demon is she talking about herself too, thinking it’s only kept in line by the men around her? Beth is an abuser but is she also the abused? Redemption arc for cousin Beth is what I’m saying.

Amy Adams???? Girl, what are you doing in Buffy; good to see you. Though if I can be honest, I do prefer Jodi Melville of Smallville to cousin Beth here.

The episode “Family” is rather jarring in terms of how the other Scoobies regard Tara at the beginning. Because on a meta narrative level it feels reasonable that they maybe wouldn’t know her that well or feel all that close to her yet. Tara is a relatively new character who hasn’t had that much screen time and the vast majority of the screen time she has had has been just with Willow.
But when you think about what’s going on in universe it falls apart. The gang met Tara in the episode “Who Are You?” and found out she was Willow’s girlfriend in “New Moon Rising”. Since episodes are usually understood to happen at roughly the same time as when they were aired, that puts them meeting in late February, finding out they’re girlfriends in early May and Tara’s birthday in early November. Willow has been bringing this girl to group hangs for eight months. It’s been six months since they found out that their best friend has been dating a girl that she loves so much that she choose her over trying to get back together with her ex-boyfriend who she deeply, deeply loved, and you can’t even be assed to remember her birthday party?
