Notes on Scene Recreation
This film is one I am very proud of but also it took a lot out of me.
The Piano Teacher
When we had first chosen our scene, we had each picked roles for the film we were going to recreate which was the Piano teacher. I along with Maude and Ava went on location scouts. As I was producer, I organised an actor to play Erika. I also created and filled out the pre-production documents. I had even set up meetings with the directors to discuss when we would shoot and have rehearsals. Unfortunately, all this work was useless in the end as we had to change due to the location never confirming and the timings of the crew and the actor not being able to work on the same day.
Mandy
This was our back-up scene and was a very rushed production considering how close we were to the deadline. I ended up editing this film and had no clue how to even approach the edit. Luckily Kieran was offering one-to-one tutorials to discuss our films and I could ask him how to do it. We spoke extensively about the edit, and he offered me several solutions which I tried. Some worked better than others and during the first I worked out what parts of the effect could be improved to better resemble the effect in the film. I ended up using 2 layers of my face, keyframing the opacity of each face to fade over each other and then keyframing a mask. I then colour graded the faces to match the same colour and finally added grain in to resemble the film’s texture. Unfortunately, during my edit my hard drive became corrupted and I lost access to the original project file and if I had not uploaded a test to YouTube then would have lost our project entirely – so going forward I plan to always email myself the day’s project files to ensure I always have a backup on the cloud.

Notes on Tableau 2
Tableau 2 was extremely stressful but overall, I’m really proud of what we made.
Pre-Production
I will give major credit to my production designer, Ava Denham, who did buy an urn for this task and the writer, Maude Dams, who wrote a gorgeous script (that we all instantly fell in love with) and provided me with beautiful notes to give to the actors on set. However, the rest of pre-production was a nightmare. I had organised a pre-production meeting to agree on deadlines with my group which everyone agreed to. When I checked up on everyone’s progress with the shoot 2 days away, I was dismayed to find that people were somehow unaware of the fact that we were shooting in less than 48 hours. We had to scramble to get equipment (which we were only able to get because I was acting on another film and I owned a camera) and one of our actors (which we were only able to get because they were my best friend). I felt very let down in this regard especially seeing as how much work I was putting in to produce our scene recreation.
The Shoot
Overall, I’d say we worked well on set as we nearly managed to get everything, we needed in the very first take. Reflecting I’d say I should have made sure our sound recordist had his levels set correctly as sound was one of the major elements of feedback we got for this film.
Post-Production
This was a smooth process as we only had to find a take we liked and then sync audio. I did use additional recordings of sounds such as birds, people passing by and footsteps to add to and build the soundscape around the characters.

==> PINK ULYSSES (1990) dir. Eric De Kuyper An actor prepares, removing his shirt to iron it. All shirts stay off. In a mix of black and white, color, and old film clips, a homoerotic odyssey begins. Troy is sacked, and Odysseus starts his languorous journey back to Penelope and Telemachos, who wait in Ithaca. Odysseus dreams: young well-muscled men roll on sheets, hands remove flowers to disclose a sculpted torso. The ship tosses Odysseus; gobs sleep in hammocks; a storm beats down and a life boat seeks a strand. Circe, disguised as Penelope, seduces Odysseus; he stays with her for seven years. In Ithaca, Penelope and her suitors are impatient. Will Odysseus arrive before the film crew breaks for lunch?

horror sub-genres • experimental horror
arthouse horror/experimental horror, sometimes called elevated horror, is a sub-genre of both horror films and art-films. it explores and experiments with the artistic uses of horror. experimental horror films tend to rely on atmosphere building, psychological character development, cinematic style, and philosophical themes for effect - rather than straightforward scares.

Visual Excerise 3
For Visual Excersie 3 I was a producer. This was very intersting to me as I had been a director for most of our previous tasks and I wanted to have a go at producing.
This involved a fair amount of work in pre-production. I contacted venues and went on location scouts and took photos of potential venues. I made a shot list for the scene we are recreating. I contacted actors. I took notes at our pre-poroduction meetings and created a schedule for us to all be free on shooting days. I even made my own production documents to better organise things in both my head and on set.
Overall I have really enjoyed producing so far and discussing producing with my flatmate Becca (who is on the same course) has been a really valuable experience.

Watched this film with Moni and Nina last night and it FUCKS.
Why you should watch:
Atonement
(no spoilers :D )
Coming into a film course from a family in Spain that has showered me with film since I was vey young, I thought Atonement (my favourite movie as well as my parent’s one) would be a much common film, but I’ve not only discovered that people haven’t seen it, people don’t recognise it either!
My father told me that even though he thinks it’s one of the best films he has seen, he also agrees that it has never been considered ‘a classic’ or a film that absolutely everyone knows.
Following all of this I saw only necessary to write about why you really should watch Atonement.
1. The music
It is an obvious reason if you know the movie, but trust me, if you are watching for the first time, I promise the music is something that will blow your mind. I have never seen a more fascinating soundtrack that helped the film as much as the Atonement OST. It is constantly present and wraps the everyday sound into the main soundtrack of the film. Thuds turn into drums and birds into violins, the constant typewriter immerses you into the film, as if you’re there, typing the story, finishing the paragraphs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is no surprise that it won the Oscar for best soundtrack, but still, every single time I watch this movie it never fails to surprise me.
2. Saoirse Ronan
Thirteen years and breaking into the screen. The acting of Ronan throughout the movie is just fascinating (youngest actress nominated for an Oscar as well). She is guile, hateful and incredibly clever at the same time and she provokes a feeling of disgust that stays until the very end. It´s just amazing how from such a young age she can convince not only the viewers but all of the characters in the movie. She plays to win and does not stop until she does so, she always gets what she wants.

This is thirteen year old Briony of course. Luckily we see her learn through the years, but the little hateful Saoirse stays with you until the end, not even after her atonement.
3. ‘The best sequence shot in cinema’ - My dad
Atonement, even though a love story, also shows the II World War from the allies side, and one of our protagonists (Robbie Turner, another reason to watch the film but that’s a more personal one) gets to Dunkirk beach.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What happens now is (agreeing with my dad) possibly the best sequence shot in cinema. A 5 minute uncut shot of everything happening at Dunkirk. Wounded soldiers fighting for their life or dying, drunk people, hopeful and hopeless conversations, crying, laughing, etc. It is an absolute masterpiece and it never fails to amaze me every time i watch it.
Atonements is as a whole a very well done movie and I think it has everything a viewer wants. I truly recommend this picture and do tell me what you thought about it!

X - Review
This movie fucks (get it cause its about making a porno). It combines the best parts of a slasher and rural gothic. There's some brillaint gory kills in this and some genuinely fucked scenes (and lots of scenes of fucking).
(There's also a Kid Cudi dick shot which was funny and also if you know how to boom properly then unfortunatly the girl in this movie playing the boom op will distract you).

Scrolling through the Nope tags and everyone is so correct and so right but. I am finding a strange lack of mentions of the swallowing scene. The vore. The massacre. Whenever I will think back to this movie, it will always be looking at the shadows behind Jupe of the audience members flying. It will always be the look on Jupe's face before it cuts to black, and then back to the open orifice of Jean Jacket and seeing the bodies flying in. It will always be the slimy, fleshy pocket they find themselves in, and their screaming.
The cosmic horror. The way they are helpless in their suffering. The way they are still alive for the few hours before they are consumed above OJ and Ems house. The strange things they see inside. Their haunting screams. Wow. Wow.
I love horror, and this was the first time that I had an actual visceral reaction that wasn't from a jump scare. I remember reaching out to my friend next to me and the empty chair, cause I was truly truly horrified. I cannot stop thinking about that moment. That scene. Amazing fucking movie
