" i totally get that feeling, though. it's why i'm glad we've got mona-chan around now. i don't think sitting at my computer would feel quite the same anymore, if i didn't have him sitting on the desk next to me most days. " she admits, a little surprised by just how quickly the rest of the thieves have come to mean so much to her. " i doubt he's gonna complain either way, though. we all know he adores the attention, even if he doesn't wanna admit it. i mean, why else is he in one of our laps at every group meeting or study session ? she pouts a little at the laugh he gives; stifled or not, her hearing is still sharp enough to catch it. with a push of her glasses back up to the bridge of her nose, futaba shakes her head. " i know you do it there, but i didn't realize your hand-eye coordination was that good. " she pauses. " wait a sec, of course it is, you're also a video game nerd. nevermind. " futaba shrugs, stretching her arms high above her head and nearly falling off the stool she's seated on, before both hands quickly move to catch herself on the counter. crisis averted.
" p- pretend you didn't just see me almost fall. " futaba insists, her eyes darting to meet his. " anyways, you're on ! even if i resent the accusation that i don't hold up my end of the deal whenever we make a bet, you are so on, akira ! best three out of five games, loser buys pizza for the group study session next thursday after you guys get outta school. deal ? " she extends her hand in front of her, stopping halfway across the bar's counter. " if we don't shake on it, it's not legally binding, and we both know i'll end up trying to semantics my way out of it if we don't, and i end up losing. " her face contorts into a smug grin. " not that i will, but you know. "

his willingness to help is reassuring, and she's relieved of just a bit of her anxiety by his casual tone. " th- thank you ! " futaba thanks him, bowing very quickly before following him to the section in question. him making conversation is... strange, and not something she's entirely expecting to handle, but she can do this. she can totally do this. " no, i- i'm not from around here. " futaba manages to start speaking after a moment of working up the courage to do so.
" my friends and i are on a road trip to see more of the country, and they kinda... " she trails off, looking around, as if to exemplify that she was the only one of her group here. " ditched me here. n- not literally, but they all went to this beef bowl place or something that one of us saw at a shopping center, i guess. i hate cramped spaces, so i said i'd just stick around here. " upon realizing she's rambling, she shakes her head.
" n- nevermind. this is your whole selection ? " futaba looks it over, finding the pickings to be rather scarce. " i think i've even seen the clearance section over at akihabara have more stuff than this... " the hacker mumbles under her breath before clearing her throat. " wait a second, there's no memory sticks ? no hard drives ? what the heck ? it's almost all keyboards and computer mice ! "

okay, so i have the weirdest headcanon that i personally adore for futaba, and i wanna finally share it with y'all. get ready for this one. -drumroll noises-
her biological father is baofu / kaoru saga from the persona 2 duology. let me explain.
- his age sounds about right, placing him at the age of roughly 34 years old in 2001, when futaba was born. doesn't seem too far off the mark for it to be plausible, if you ask me.
- his role in innocent sin is as a rumormonger, and his particular method of sharing information on rumors is via computer, through his own website. it feels very reminiscent of futaba's intense interest and comprehension of computers and the internet as a whole.
- in eternal punishment, he's an extortionist, and would have likely been a negative association to have for anyone in a position of authority and responsibility, with my thought process going straight to futaba's mother, wakaba; an employee studying at a government-affiliated research facility in her pursuits of cognitive psience.
- it is canon that wakaba had futaba out of wedlock, which i can refer to the previous point to explain. i figure that no fuckin' way would a workaholic like wakaba realistically want to risk ruining her own reputation and, by possible proximity, the fruits of her research by marrying baofu. or, rather, i imagine that baofu himself chose to abandon the two before learning that she was pregnant, not wanting to put her down the firing line of public prosecutors if anything came out about her being affiliated with a walking scandal waiting to happen like himself; heaven forbid he put her in a situation where she's on the receiving end of something like his former line of work.
- both of them suffered the loss of someone extremely close to them, which altered the course of their lives entirely; baofu lost his assistant, miki asai, while futaba obviously lost her mother, wakaba.
- my main point here, though, is that this all culminates in the fact that they literally share an evolved persona, being prometheus. it may just be me, but the linings along baofu's iteration of prometheus seem to make a visual design return in the way of the rainbow ones along futaba's later on. i dunno.
none of this is to say that she perceives sojiro as anything other than her father, in any way, shape, or form. for all intents and purposes, in all senses of the title other than biology, sojiro sakura is futaba's father. however, i thought this warranted sharing, since it lines up a little too well, if you ask me. that's all.

" granted, what else would she come to futaba with, in all honesty. " i- if it's your phone, you just hold your finger on whatever you wanna delete until a little dialogue box pops up. there should be a button in it that says something like ' delete, ' or ' uninstall. ' it'll usually have a little trash can icon next to it, too. " she pauses for a moment, thinking on the matter just a moment more. " akira mentioned your phone's always acted up in weird ways. does it not let you delete stuff ? 'cause if that's the case, we'd have to plug it into a computer or something. "

" oracle asks, hoping she'll get lucky and find something of a hidden gem in a place like this.

" hey ! language, akira ! " she playfully protests, wagging a finger in his direction as she finishes her fourth cup of coffee. no wonder she's so wired. " that's a hundred yen in the swear jar for you, mister ! " futaba briefly glances around, realizing the lack of such a jar in the first place. " o- okay, well... next item of business for leblanc: get ourselves a swear jar ! " she sets the mug down on the coaster in front of her, sighing with relief. regardless of her likely elevated heart rate, she feels fine. comfortable, even ! she's downed energy drinks during all-nighters in quicker succession than this ! him ruffling her hair earns a noise of confusion, and the playful push downward gets him an equally playful slap fight for a brief moment from both of her hands.
" nyeh ! how do you do that and still do something cool with your free hand !? wait a sec, are you... " shit, what's the word... " ambi... ambipom ? " she audibly struggles to remember the word. no, you dumbass, that's a pokémon ! her internal debate ends with a punctual snap of her fingers as she finally manages to remember the right word. " ambidextrous ! that's what i was trying to say. i think my brain might be moving a little too fast. " she admits, her competitive spirit being further riled up by his taunt at her skills. " oho, really ? wanna make it interesting and bet on it ? loser has to mop the leblanc floors every night for a week ! "
