Unfortunately, the artist for the prints didn't have a card, so I never caught their name. :c I'm gonna see if I can find them on the con's page bc their art style is so CUTE. + a zoro pin, obanai tin print, and the flame flame + gumgum fruits necklaces, and a professional photo shoot which I'll be getting back in a few days c: oh, and a signed print from a cosplayer I've been following for YEARS [ Knightmage ]. And a trilogy of books from a local author who I got to chat with for almost 20 minutes bc people kept passing up his booth, and I walked over and asked what his books were about, and we ended up talking and found out he lives literally up the road from me, lmao. Nice older man. He gave me a discount on his books bc "we're basically neighbors!"

Also: the wig still looked good after getting caught in a downpour that had me sprinting half a mile from my car to the front doors. The forecast was WRONG.

ㅤ⠀It felt good- no, right to be back on the open sea once again. The East Blue had been good to them thus far, but adventure awaited, and really- how long could the infamous Red Hair Pirates remain in port at Foosha Village? The Goa Kingdom wasn’t good to remain in for much longer, too much attention was being given towards them. Once goodbyes were said, the sails had unfurled- and away they’d gone, taking to the sea. Shanks hadn't planned on remaining in Foosha for so long, but after losing his arm protecting Luffy- well, things got sidelined. He had to heal before leaving, had to relearn how to use Gryphon and how to keep his balance on the ship.

ㅤ⠀They’d been sailing for nearly ten hours by the time evening swept across the sea. The winds were dying down, which meant they’d be moving slower through the night. Perfect for their first night back! Roux was cooking for them, Benn was the wheel, Yasopp in the Crow’s Nest. Things were good, back to normal. Shanks chuckled to himself as he made his way into the Captain’s Quarters, not noticing the little figure tucked away behind his trunk at first. In fact, it took quite some time-

He didn't notice it at first; really, it took him a good ten minutes after Aroha had passed by for his hands to even slip into his pockets, let alone to find the note that had been slipped in. He frowns, pulling out the paper- had he forgotten it in there? No- not the case, he realized once he'd unfolded it. His gaze drifted across the letter curiously before a small smile tugged at his lips. Huh.

... He'd have to thank her, later. Maybe with a cool rock. People like rocks as gifts, yeah?

Law knows Penguin isn't thrilled about his birthday. The Hearts Captain gets it. He, too, isn't always happy to celebrate his birth. It makes him think of what has happened, of everything he's lost, and those loved ones who aren't around to celebrate with him. He understands Penguin's feelings, but he's not going to stop the crew from showering Pen with love. He deserves it, just as the crew believes Law deserves their love on his birthday.

He will also show his own love, stunted and difficult as it is. In this case, he doesn't opt for something big or showy. Doesn't attempt to throw a massive, overwhelming gift at someone who is struggling with the day. He goes for something small but meaningful. A show of love that's more through action than the gift itself.

"Congratulations, you survived another year," Law says to his friend, clapping Penguin on the back when he catches him in the hallway. He drops a small box topped with a stick on bow in Penguin's hand. Inside is a collection of pretty coloured stones Law found during one of his many wanderings. A gift that brings to mind the sight of the Surgeon of Death scrounging in dirt and sand to find something he'd usually consider frivolous.

ㅤ⠀Dishes had been washed and put away after breakfast, the leftover food carefully and meticulously sealed and stored away for whoever wanted to grab them later for a snack. Next on the list was to get his and Shachi’s laundry gathered and washed, and then… Maybe he’d take a nap, if the free time was allotted. Keeping busy was important on days like this, when his hands shook and his heart raced and oh, how he wanted to do nothing other than stay in the room-

ㅤ⠀“Eh?” Penguin frowned at the small box that was dropped into his hands. Glancing over at his Captain, he raised a brow before opening it. Nothing flashy, thankfully- yet, what was found had a smile breaking across his features. Rocks. Pretty little rocks and pebbles! How long had Law been gathering them? He plucked one out, a semi-sheer piece of green. “Thanks, Cap’n. Didja know this is sea glass? Not really a rock- still just as pretty, but sea glass is made when a broken bottle is tossed into the water one way or another, and the glass is worn down by the salt in the sea, the water, the rocks- until it looks like a stone. Like this one!”

News Coo Delivery for Penguin!!

It’s a package wrapped with white wrapping paper. Painted on it was an arctic landscape with little penguins playing around a swimming hole, and the Polar Tang in the distance. Inside was a handwritten note with a little sketch of Pen himself in the corner.

‘Hey!

I hope this finds you in time! Dunno how the news coos are gonna find you guys underwater, but even if it doesn’t, I know you’ll get it eventually. Anyways! I’ve been trying some crochet lately, and I think I managed to replicate your hat! Even put some fleece in it for whenever it gets cold on your travels. Though, thinking about it, I guess your normal hat already does that. Ahhh I don’t have time to make something else!! And making the brim was hard!!! Whatever! I still hope you like it, even if you don’t wanna wear it.

ㅤ⠀The Tang had made port for a supply run. The sky was clear, the wind was warm, and those who opted to remain on the Tang were enjoying the weather. Like Penguin, who had sprawled out on the roof of the tang, sunning himself as if he were some sort of reptile rather than a Selkie. But it was in his nature to enjoy lounging, and this was certainly no different.

ㅤ⠀When the News Coo dropped the package unceremoniously, Penguin had all but snatched it up curiously ( and a touch nosey ). Realizing it was for him- from Usopp ( be still, dear heart ) - he wasted no time in ripping the package open with the small claws that sat at the ends of his fingers, cautious to preserve the painting on the box. Perhaps he’d hang it in his bunk…

ㅤ⠀He read the note once, twice, three times, until he could hear Usopp’s voice ins his mind reading it with the little mannerisms that came with it ( wide eyes, gesturing vaguely, fretting at the end before waving a hand- ), before he set it aside to pull the hat out carefully. His fingers brushed across the stitches; how long had it taken him? Smiling to himself, he reached up to pull his normal cap off, replacing it with this new one. Ah… Soft.

ㅤ⠀He’d have to wear it the next time they got to see each other. And maybe send a thank you note…

Birthdays were important in Ikkaku's mind, so she'd been working hard to put together something for Penguin that he'd like, as she wanted to make sure he understood how grateful she was that he was born.

Handing him a bento box filled with origiri shaped like penguins, sausages cut like octopi, and veggies carved like various fish and other sea creatures, she smiled. "I was thinking you'd like to come along with me to test out my new mini-Tang observation sub. There's an old shipwreck nearby that's probably got some cool treasure and stuff we can nab. A nice little adventure for the two of us." And if it happened to keep Penguin occupied for the afternoon while the crew prepared his party, all the better.

ㅤ⠀He’d forgotten what day it was. It wasn’t something he’d been counting down to, not really, so to have Ikkaku make him such a sweet bento? Oh, how he’d been confused for a good minute, listening to her talk as he stared at the bento. Why… Oh. Ah. Gift. “Yeah- yeah, that sounds like fun.” Penguin nodded, lips twitching into a semblance of a smile as he clutched the bento.

ㅤ⠀“Did you make yourself one? You’ll need to eat, too-” he mother henned gently, glancing towards the kitchen before back towards Ikkaku. It was a habit he’d had since he first met their Captain all those years ago- and it only extended to the rest of the crew. Ikkaku and Shachi got the brunt of it, though.

Penguin is a decent cook. Granted, he breaks every law of cooking when he cooks, but the food always turns out good. Don't ask him how, he's self taught and lived in the wilderness for a while, and had to make sure Shachi was eating. Canned food only goes so far.
