I think that in a way, Ascended!Astarion needs Spawn!Astarion to be pathetic. After everything that Ascended Astarion has done to get to where he is, the idea that Spawn Astarion is in fact the best version of himself must be a devastating idea to try and grapple with. The idea that there WAS still some part of him that had deserved saving, that had deserved being cared for, and that he had killed that part of him himself when he'd ascended? Brutal I'd buckle down on the denial bus too.
I couldn't get this dialogue out of my head for days.
After I refused to become Astarion's spawn, he said.
Tumblr media
I tried a few answers to see how he react. But his reaction to that one broke my heart

I was pathetic then
We remember that Cazador called him a pathetic little boy.
"I strove for perfection in all things, even those as imperfect as you"
I think that was Astarion's self-image too. The fact that we called him Perfect hit him hard. There is someone who really liked me as I was?
Aren't we all imperfect in the eyes of someone and unconsciously strive not to fit that image?
So i made a Video to make myself happy again

hey there. if you see art of a guy with boobs being sexy, drawn by a trans artist (yes, ALSO a guy with boobs), and immediately accuse them of fetishization, maybe stop to consider what it is about a guy with boobs being sexy that makes you so uncomfortable. And also, what fetish means.
cause the discomfort youre experiencing is most certainly NOT because of any harmful depiction of transness, from which the trans community surely needs to be protected: youre uncomfortable seeing normal everyday transness (you are transphobic)
trans people exist and boy a lot of us sure do like to be sexy, many of us have boobs, lots of us are fat, and if you are made uncomfortable by any of that then you need to unpack some stuff about yourself. also look up the definition of fetish, idiot.

In your view/experience. is the rate of "incompleteness" among webcomics more or less the nature of online personal projects as a whole? Or is there something specific to webcomics like laboriousness, audience expectations, relative medium infancy or whatnot?
well for one thing webcomics has changed significantly in the last ten years. it used to have a much lower barrier for entry, just get a smackjeeves account or set up a website with a wordpress plugin. starting a webcomic when i started my webcomic vs starting a webcomic now are totally different experiences.
so i can only speak to people who started their webcomics roughly ten years ago. and roughly ten years ago a lot of us were a whole lot younger with a lot more time and energy to spend on a comic for free. this part is probably still somewhat true for new artists.
but then you get older. your ideas change. your skill develops and the old stuff isn't as good. or you don't have as much time, you got a day job. unless you're one of like five people on earth your webcomic is not paying your rent. you need to make money. your shoulder hurts. you're 30 now. you're struggling to make updates on time between whatever else makes you happy and what else you need to do to live. you wrote this story when you were 21, you don't relate to it anymore, you have different ideas, you've grown up, your audience has noticeably dropped off from the peak, social media managing is hard, you have to go to work, you're so tired, all the time.
it's a lot of things.
