Post like these are always interesting because on one hand yes it’s sad that Sudan, Congo and all the other genocides and lives aren’t being covered nearly as enough. BUT as a Sudanese woman recently I’ve seen an increase of similar takes and seems like the only time people are speaking about Sudan lately is to compare the level of coverage with Palestine. I want people to speak more on Sudan but not at the expense of Palestine.
Went to a teach in about Sudan yesterday and they brought up a really interesting point - “free Sudan” only started trending after Oct 7th and it’s very likely it wasn’t an actual Sudanese person who made these hashtags so it begs the question why do Palestinian lives have to die for the death of Sudanese people to start to matter - the war in Sudan has been ongoing for a year and it took another atrocity for people to start noticing - it’s obvious anti blackness, racism, and the normalization of conflict in Africa is at the root of that
Being a woman in Australia and having to watch the death toll of women highten while the government continues to ignore it is disturbing.
Masa Vukotic. At 14 years of age when I heard her tragic story I knew where this country stood.
I’m so sick of hearing about these low quality members of society who go on rampages against women. No man is entitled to a woman’s body, to sex, to love, or to a relationship and for his father to say that he was a “very sick boy who just wanted a girlfriend but had no social skills and was frustrated out of his mind” is just sickening. He was a misogynist, a terrorist, and a fool.
“A Sudanese girl holds a sign as supporters of Sudan People's Liberation Army leader John Garang wait for his arrival on the tarmac of the Rumbek, south Sudan, airport.”
