Since I finally have a new laptop, it’s time that I post one of these things. When I decided to try going back to roleplaying after a half year break, I picked Sousuke as a muse on a whim. At the time, we didn’t know much about him and to be honest, before Eternal Summer began, I was convinced I was going to hate him as a character. Yet, here I am, five months later, so happy to have given him a try. It’s been so much fun fleshing out his character and I thank all of you for giving me the opportunity to do so. And even if we haven’t interacted, thank you for being part of my experience so far. You’re all brilliant and may your new year shine bright. [ art credit ]
                                        「MY SUNSHINES 」
This is a list of those special individuals that brighten my days. You all have an enduring patience with me when I’m slow and your understanding is something that I appreciate immensely. I want to thank you for your friendship and for all the feels that we’ve shared together thus far. Sousuke and I would be lost without you and your muses. Each and every one of you are my precious darlings and you each hold a special, unique place in my heart. I adore you all.

                                          「MY STARS 」
This is a list of people that brighten up my dashboard. It’s not a comprehensive list because I’m sure I’ve forgotten someone and everyone that I follow is followed for a reason, but the ones listed are people that I would love to interact with/talk to more than I do because their presence is something that I’m keenly aware of. Why haven’t I done something to talk to these individuals more, I’m not sure, probably because I’m lame like that, but regardless, I’m glad to see these muns and their muses on my dash. They have their own special shine and it doesn’t go unnoticed.

Any of the Above. Twice in a row, wow, I didn't even need to clip a second image~
       He almost didn’t recognize him.
Haruka looked up from the still struggling meal on his lap. Blue eyes were hollowly displaying a mixture of disinterest and lack of concern. It didn’t matter which human was sent after him now, he no longer attempted to distinguish them. Weakness, that was what they were. This red haired one even weaker than those who became him.
Look at those shock consumed eyes. Those tiny tremors of his incompetent human body. Was tonight this one’s first day on the job? Haruka threw the human on his lap off, letting the poor young lady crawl away on hands and feet. “You’ve saved someone, aren’t you pleased?” And all this hunter needed to do was to offer Haruka himself instead as a change of dinner. Probably would taste better, too.
Although…This scene seemed somewhat familiar. Since his eyes first set on this one, this strange warmth had began to spread its way throughout his chest. It was almost like gladness. He was glad to see this human, and that was something he haven’t felt in years.
       Years.
How many years? What was he doing before these years? Something different. Not feeding and hiding. Something beyond primitive instincts and far more worthy of cherishing. Distrust. Anger. Hate. He remembered now. This person stabbed himself with those negative emotions over something he did not do.  Eventually, that event made him realize humans and vampires could not live in harmony, that no matter how close they were, their nature and community would separate them. So he stopped trying to empathize with his meals and tried to be a vampire as reliable as their description in the hunters manual.
”Rin.” Forever running, forever chasing. Perhaps they should end it all right here. Haruka lunged, fangs sharp as they aimed for his used to be best friend’s throat.  Their bodies collided and everything was surprisingly easy….Until his lips actually connected to the soft skin of Rin’s neck. Desire to feed faded away and something else came. Instead of biting, Haruka let his fangs retract. He just leaned there, against his enemy, lips harmlessly brushing against the other’s vulnerable veins.
He…Didn’t want to bite him. Didn’t want to hurt him. It was uncomfortable to realize but Rin was still special. No matter how he tried to ignore it. "Next time." He whispered before vanishing again into the forest. Running again, until the next time he would be found. Would the next time, perhaps, be the final time?

Any of the above - Chest Kiss
Haruka stretched lazily, feeling the strain in his muscles after a long day of time consuming arguments. Unfortunately, he and Yamazaki weren’t one of those ordinary couples that could express their view points and feelings properly with words. They, in fact, communicated the best after an all-day session of shameless hay rolling. Yamazaki would become too exhausted to speak above a calm, quiet voice and Haruka would have still been too overwhelmed by the experience to throw up his usual shield of ice.
Perhaps this wasn’t such a terrible thing. After all, it gave them an excuse to be together all day. One of them always tried to excuse themselves when they realized they’ve been together for too long and were acting too…Couple-like. The arguments and mattress jumping distracted them both from something they must have both realized by now but dared not to acknowledge.
Haruka was fairly certain Yamazaki was beginning to fall in love with him. And he was getting wrapped up in the same curse. He noticed this perhaps a month back, when Yamazaki looked at him with a gentleness that Haru thought he wasn’t capable of. It wasn’t quite the look he gave to Rin either. They shared a different sort of bond. Though it was bizarre and sometimes frustrating, that connection did not look ready to fade any time soon.
       And Haruka…He was glad.
"Yamazaki?" He peeked at the sleeping figure next to him. The other’s lack of response was his cue to move closer and take up that spot on Yamazaki’s chest which was his favorite to rest against. It would take them months yet to gather up the courage to speak of true affection. Even now, they must hide what they felt for when they thought they weren’t being watched.
Beside his ear, Yamazaki’s heart rate was picking up. So he was awake after all. The raven turned slightly, pressing his lips to the area above Yamazaki’s racing heart in a kiss. ‘Don’t count on me saying I love you before you do’, Haruka mouthed the words onto the warm skin underneath. It would be impossible - at least he thought - for Yamazaki to feel what he was saying, otherwise he’d never do it.

2. Cheek Kiss
How Nanase managed to wake up at the crack ass of dawn, Sousuke didn’t know. He was too fond of sleep to get up that early on his own free will. Scrunching his nose as a sandpaper tongue licked a stripe across it, Sousuke groggily batted a hand at the perpetrator who had roused him from his sleep. Opening up one teal eye, he let out a groan. The cats were beckoning him and had decided that apparently he had been sleeping too long for their tastes. Why Nanase let them in, Sousuke didn’t know. There were many things about the other that would likely always remain a mystery to him. “I’m up, I’m up, you happy?” he grumbled, cranky, the cat mewling at him and bouncing onto the floor to join his companions.
Tumblr media
Throwing a leg over the edge of the bed, Sousuke ran a hand through his bedhead that stood up on end before letting out a loud, audible yawn, stretching his arms up above his head ad pulling at them, hearing the elbows crack before he stood. Running a hand underneath the nightshirt that he wore, he scratched at his stomach, his abs in full display, clad in the shrt and his boxers as he walked out of Nanase’s bedroom and started down the hallway to the kitchen. There were some scraps from last night that they could get rid of. Likely, Nanase was still wading in the tub. There were days where Sousuke joined him, but seldom did he join him in the morning.
The cats scampered around his feet, some of them wading their way through his legs and rubbing up against him eagerly. “Needy little things.” Reminded him of a certain someone. Someone that he found hovering over the skillet, apron and typically blank expression on. “Thought you would still be in the bath,” Sousuke commented as the kittens scampered to the food bowl that was kept for them. Maybe Sousuke had been sleeping longer than he thought. He hadn’t bothered to check the time.
This worked in his favor. “The kittens are hungry. Probably because they smell the fish.” He indicated towards the mackerel that Nanase was cooking. He also could hear the slight whistle of the rice cooker. “We have those leftovers in the fridge.” And leaving that as his indication that Nanase should feed them, Sousuke felt he had effectively handed over the baton and given the duty to the shorter male. “I’m going to go wash up.” Curling a hand around Nanase’s shoulder, he leaned down to press a feather soft kiss to his cheek. If asked later, he would blame the tender, affectionate gesture on being still half-asleep. But as it was, he doubted Nanase would ask. The other didn’t tend to address such things.
With another yawn, he headed back to the bedroom and plopped back on the bed, not even bothering to cover himself up with the sheets. Five more minutes wouldn’t hurt.

Haru was quiet.  That much he knew after being friends with him most of his life.  But Makoto could tell the difference between normal quiet and ‘something-is-wrong’ quiet.  The air was…. different between the two, and he couldn’t really describe it… but he just knew.  And so, being the person he was, Makoto asked if something was bothering Haru, and if he wanted to talk.  That was when it happened.  Seemingly out of the blue, Haru had turned towards him and said ‘I love you’ as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.Unlike Haru, Makoto wasn’t one to keep his cool in these kinds of situations.  Almost instantly, his face flushed red and his eyes went wide.  His heart started racing and his whole body was shaking.  His throat seemed to close up and his thoughts were frozen.  Haru was his best friend, almost like family to him, and with just a few words had sent him into a state of total shock. For a few minutes, Makoto wasn’t sure how to react.  His mind was moving a million miles an hour and he couldn’t keep up.  Once he could finally process his thoughts, he took a deep breath, and blinked a few times before he spoke, his voice breathless.  ”You….. You love me?”

       That accusation was unacceptable.
Haruka shut his eyes, remembering each time he suffered in order to keep his promise to Rin. Every time a villager walked by on a night when he was thirsty. The sweet scent of their blood tantalizingly close, threatening to overwhelm him. Those times where uncomfortable questions came up and the truth too dark to be discussed, how Haruka held his silence though the tension in the air clawed at him like a monster. All of those efforts, to say all of that was a part of some twisted game.
He must not let himself become angry with Rin. Humans were prone to say hurtful things when they were in pain. They usually regretted it as soon as they said it and came asking for forgiveness just as quickly. Vampires, at least Haruka, controlled their emotions better. They let their feelings sink to the bottom of their heart, where they may gather. Only when enough of a certain kind formed did they finally acknowledge them.
       They really were different.
Haruka's eyes scanned side to side at the corpses again. Staring at each lifeless form on the ground, a realization finally rose. "They always said our kind didn't care about humans." He was referring to the people on the hunters council, those who once attempted a forced termination of their friendship. "I suppose they are right. I don't really care about these villagers on the ground. If I killed them all, I wouldn't feel any guilt."
However. "But not your father. I wouldn't have killed him because I...Do actually care about you." Haruka took a step back just as Rin twisted away, letting the rest of his sentence be dispersed by the wind, almost too soft to hear. It didn't matter what he said anymore. His last attempt earned him nothing but a forceful emotional stab equivalent to a stake through chest.
"Was that a lie just now?" He asked, pointing out what Rin must be thinking. Haruka looked down the hill, at the forest which could become his new home with a faint shadow in his eyes. So he couldn't do it after all, live among humans and befriend them. For a long time, he sincerely believed that it was possible. It was a disappointment, but surely he'd adjust. His kind was supposed to be good at that too. "Goodbye, Rin." Haruka turned to the young man who had made him forget his nature as a true predator. "Let us never see each other again."
;trust not what your eyes see
Rin flinched as Haruka touched him. Only hours before he would have been overjoyed to have Haruka this close, would’ve surrendered immediately to his touch. Haruka’s skin was cold, like theirs always was, and the slick feeling of the blood turned Rin’s stomach. Of course Haruka moved faster than Rin could — how could he not, after a feast like this? Rin let out a pained breath as Haruka tightened his grip.
If he’d wanted to do this he could’ve done it any time…
Except that vampires fed on human pain and suffering just as much as they did on their blood, didn’t they? And Haruka had created a brilliant bonfire of pain to feast upon. Rin had thought of him as so dear, had cherished their closeness. Even now Rin could feel the heat of anger beginning to surge in his heart and he tightened his teeth together for a moment, unable to look away from his father’s face.
The last question was too much. Turning his head, Rin caught Haru’s eyes with his.
"I don’t know," Rin said, in a wooden tone. "Have you? Have you ever lied to me?” Or, more properly — “Was it all a lie?” He felt sick.
It had to be. Everyone was right, everyone on the council of hunters, everyone he knew, everyone. Rin didn’t have what it really took to be a good hunter. He cared too much. It was too easy to play with him, to make a game of his heart and his willingness to give himself to someone else.
Haruka had never had to exert himself to control Rin. All he’d had to do was smile and lie tilt his head just so, to let the light into his eyes. In his weakness, Rin had done everything else.
"I’m not a toy." He twisted his arm viciously, tearing away from Haruka’s grasp. His father’s dead eyes stared up at him in judgement and Rin stumbled back a step, fingers fumbling at the belt. He was always so smooth, it wasn’t his first time — but for some reason, he couldn’t quite get it together, couldn’t make everything work.
Rin was a toy. He should never have thought of himself as anything else.

;story night
"And he looked down once again at his watch. Forty five minutes had passed, yet the bus driver did not make a single stop. Strangely enough, none of the other passengers seemed to be in a hurry either. They are sat facing forward, eyes blank in eerie unison..." Haruka shifted slightly to turn to the next page. The only light that was turned on in the room flickered as he bumped into it.
Makoto had been rather quiet this entire time. Shouldn't he be screaming out in terror already, though they haven't gotten to the climax of this horror story.
Tumblr media
"Want me to stop?" Haruka peeked into the blanket shield Makoto had made for himself to ward off the demons and wondered for the millionth time why the other had even agreed to this in the first place.

Pain twisted in Haruka's chest. Rin didn't believe him, not even a little. He couldn't blame him given the terrible scene, but the knowledge of it still stung. How could Rin believe that he'd be able to kill Mr. Matsuoka? That man had always been kind to Haru and given him genuine smiles that were so rare to see in a human these days. "I didn't..." His words died at Rin's breathless 'why'.
Rin had never looked at him like that.
Haruka tore his eyes away, unable to bear looking into those eyes that had once been so warm and playful, now filled with disbelief and murderous intent. It was a dangerous move. After all, one should never look away from an opponent, especially one who fully intended to kill him. "I never thought this day would come." He mumbled in a soft voice, more to himself than Rin. He saw the red haired male's hand move to the leather pouch hanging on his belt. He knew exactly which items were in there, for just a few days ago, Rin laid out all the items for him to see.
That trust disappeared so quick and unexpected that Haruka couldn't accept it. Since he did not want to fight, his vampire instincts were urging him to follow the second best option - run. Yet that was also not what he wanted. If he left, there would be no chance to explain and everything will be lost forever. He must try. Granted, he had no idea of what happened. It was as if his memory had been wiped blank. Sometimes when vampires became too thirsty, they could lose their ability to think and a memory gap may form after they had enough blood in them to think rationally again. Yet Haruka was...Reasonably certain that wasn't what happened. He never let himself get that thirsty.
"Rin, listen." The other's shock and his abnormal speed gave him an edge. Haruka placed a hand over Rin's to prevent him from drawing his weapon the second he was close. It must feel disgusting to Rin now to have them in a position like this, though only days before he would have welcomed it. Haruka applied a little force into his palm, just to make sure he got those few seconds to get his words out. "If I wanted to do this, I didn't have to wait until today. I could have done it back when the village had less hunters." He had never spoken so fast in his life. "I didn't hurt anyone tonight..." Was Rin listening to him or distracted by the blood dripping down from their layered hands?
"Have I ever lied to you?" He wasn't sure if Rin was too far gone in his grief and anger to try to think back to their years together. Or, really, to even listen.
;trust not what your eyes see
Vampire hunter. It was a dangerous occupation, though not necessarily odd. Rin had wanted to be one because his grandfather was one. He’d dreamed of it for a very long time, and even after he knew Haruka, he hadn’t given it up.
Haruka was different. Special. He was beautiful and Rin spent just as much time making sure no one else went after Haruka as he spent going after other vampires. It was stupid, of course. The few people who knew about their friendship questioned Rin’s sanity sometimes, assumed Haruka had him in some kind of thrall, but Rin knew he wasn’t wrong. At least — he’d thought he knew.
How could he have been so stupid? How could he have thought that Haruka wouldn’t lie? That he could ignore his baser instincts, that he could possibly care about Rin. Could vampires care about anything? Everyone thought they couldn’t, everyone but Rin.
Rin was stupid enough, foolish enough, pathetic enough…
His breath grated against his chest as he sucked in air, staring at his ‘friend’. Brilliant blood painted Haruka’s mouth, covered his hands. It wasn’t right. It wasn’t right and as the body he’d been holding hit the ground, Rin flinched. “You didn’t do it,” he repeated after his ‘friend’, voice dull.
As he looked down the corpse’s face shifted into view, and whatever Rin was going to say died on his lips. No. His gaze shot back up to Haruka’s face, eyes startlingly wide in his pale face, a mirror image of his father’s sightless eyes staring up from the floor.
"Why?" Rin was breathless. His hand tightened on his belt, where the vials of holy water nestled inside their leather pouch next to a sharp stake. This was his fault. All of this, all of these people — his fault.

;trust not what your eyes see
Humans weren't that much different from animals. Their lives, therefore, in Haruka's eyes, were no more precious than those ducks in the pond. The humans were successful predators, demonstrating their domination over other creatures of this land by making them dinner on the table. Pleased with their ability, the humans thought they were at the highest level on the food chain. They were wrong. The humans were preys as well, and their hunters were given the title of vampires.
Haruka did not consider killing people wrong. If snatching one of the ducks swimming so peacefully on the water surface was not wrong for a human, then why should he be condemned? After all, he was trying to feed. A promise to not kill in this area, especially when it was filled with easy prey, was restraining. For one who craved nothing more than freedom like Haruka, it seemed irrational. Yet, he had made it and somehow, kept to it.
One of the reasons was because this village was special to him. He was not born here, but had lived in this area since he was young - years long enough to make it feel like home. The other reason was for the boy whom he had made the promise to those years ago. That boy, now young adult, was called Rin. He very important to Haruka, though sometimes the raven questioned exactly why.
That person was standing a meter opposite him now, familiar scarlet eyes filled with shock and pain.
"I did not do it." Haruka heard himself whisper. They were the most pathetic five words that no one would have accepted considering the situation. "Rin." His voice shook, was it because he was cold? No, probably afraid. "Do you...Believe me?" Haruka stood, dropping the corpse that had previously been draped over him. He took a few steps towards the other male, azure orbs shifting from side to side to survey the piles of corpses that surrounded them. Bite marks were on all of them. None of them were excessively bloody. It was clearly an experienced vampire who hated making a mess.
Haruka, of course, fit that criteria.
Their friendship was coming to an end. Haruka wanted to shut his eyes against the realization. After all, the evidence was against him. Here he was, the only vampire in town as far as anyone else was concerned. Skilled, powerful and knew exactly when the hunters would be out. Now he was standing among still warm bodies with his hands and lips covered in blood.
Maybe he would have had a better chance of convincing his friend if one of those dead bodies didn't belong to Rin's father.
