my fav thing about elriel is how astronomically down bad they are for each other already. i truly love all the books in this series but the groundwork is laid for this one to feel so different. oh my god the mutual pining... the burning fucking DESIRE. the deeply unsettling angst that comes with having an all consuming crush. the fact that they haven't even kissed and the atmosphere is burning hotter in the space between the brush of their hands than the fucking SUN.

more genuinely, i love them together because i don't think they've ever said a disrespectful word to one another. they see each other. they are kind to each other. i have love in my heart for all kinds of ship dynamics but man a healthy supportive relationship where two people have genuinely respected each other since the start? HOT !

Az has been shooting smiles at Elain since the day they met.

Ch 24: “A faint smile bloomed upon Azriel’s mouth as he noticed Elain’s fingers white-knuckled on that fork, but he kept silent, focusing instead, as Cassian was subtly trying to do, on adjusting his wings around a human chair.”

Ch 24: “Elain said, “It’s all very disorienting.”

Also it’s so funny to bring up Az smiling at Gwyn in the bonus chapter as though Az doesn’t smile at Elain (and does more than that) in the same bonus chapter.

Why Azriel does in fact NOT feel entitled to Elain

Tiktok is a scary place. I just saw someone saying that Azriel has been so deprived of love that he clings to the idea of Elain belonging to him. I would like to debunk that because I am tired of people saying Azriel feels entitled to Elain, because that’s just not true at all.

While it is true that Azriel has been deprived of love and doesn’t deem himself deserving of it, that does not prove the “entitlement” theory. We are clearly explained that he cannot sleep because he is plagued by thoughts of her, he is her friend and they understand each other. Despite the lust that he feels for her (like Cassian and Rhys felt for Nes and Feyre), that does not mean that he cannot experience romantic feelings. Now, when he questions the cauldron with Rhys, just like it had been done before, everyone took it as an act of possession, when Azriel was simply confused as to why him and Elain were not real mates. I understood his words this way: he feels a deep connection to Elain and that frustrates him because there is not an answer as to why it was not them who were paired together. He is hurt, pining and confused.

“Azriel needs a therapist not a mate”, if he does then so does the rest of the IC! Let’s not be a hypocrite now. He does not want Elain solely because he wants a mate, he feels something for her and because of that he wishes he had been her mate instead. He cares for her beyond lust and you would’ve known that if you had taken the BC for what it is, an addition to already existing details in the books.

Also, if he felt “entitled” to her, he wouldn’t be thinking of how unworthy he is of her, and we clearly know this because those are his thoughts! He feels like his scarred hands are staining her because he thinks very highly of Elain and very lowly of himself.

Anyway I’m probably missing a few details but feel free to add to this :)

It's deeply concerning why your mind started imagining p*dophilia when that was never how it was in the books. He literally started having glimpses of her home THREE years before he finally sees her fr. He didn't even understand these glimpses at first. Y'all are so nasty.

Rhysand started having glimpses of feyre's home «A crackling hearth in a dark home. A bale of hay in a barn. A warren of rabbits. The images were foggy, like looking through cloudy glass. They were brief—a flash here and there, every few months.» around the time when when she was 17/18 and then saw her nightmares when she was in spring court, she was nineteen and with tamlin at that time but sure go off.

"that's called grooming!!" pretending to give a fuck about an actual issue that affects real people when you can't even be assed to fact check the books you're so confidently talking about is insane. This is coming from an anti rhys/feyre account too btw. Ta.mlin took feyre away from her home and then made her fall in love with him but I'll never use the age gap to push the whole "he groomed her" just because I want to hate on him. You know why? Because it's a fictional fantasy romance & lying and using an issue as serious as child grooming over magical faeries having visions of their soulmates is fucking disgusting and trivializing the matter.

I think a conversation needs to be had about why are some people so obsessed with turning anything into "grooming" and how this is thrown around as a gotcha in fandom spaces.

Nothing that I see above is anywhere near as bad as you saying what you did about her abusive parent. Her calling out the hypocrisy of you saying that women deserve to be slapped around if they’re annoying isn’t the same. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like this from the ACOTAR fandom and it makes me sad that it’s coming from a Feysand fan who I thought were mostly chill. Hope you’re ok @theseerelain

So…a random account on Twitter start fighting Elriels today talking about how most of us hate Mor and how Elain is an abusive piece of shit. When they tried to explain why they agree Elain should’ve done more, but that there’s more nuance to it than that, they started mocking the Elriel fans own abused background. I’m not sure what their Tumblr is but they seem to mostly be on here from what they were posting, just be careful when engaging with this person cause they seem to be very triggering. This is a fictional series guys, no one should be belittling someones abuse over fictional fae. Stay safe out there and enjoy the books as they were meant to be enjoyed.
