To all the parents out there who bundle their babies up in the winter time with those little hats with the little ears that make them look like little teddy bears: You are doing the lord’s work. Seeing tiny ewoks toddle across the grocery store parking lot is just what we all need sometimes. My joy is immeasurable and my day is restored.

Apparently parachute reflex is a primitive reflex in newborns wherein, if you flip a baby like demonstrated above, and attempt to chuck them at the ground like *whooooosh*... They'll extend all their limbs in anticipation of the fall, and it's a reflex that stays lifelong!
BUT all the time my gremlin brain kept thinking : next time I see a baby (*cough* my next patient in paeds *cough*) I'll attempt to randomly flip them over discreetly and see if it really works? 👀😆😆😆

Here's a companion case to yesterday's. This is a neonate with respiratory distress.

The right mid to lower lung is hyperinflated. There is leftward medisastinal shift, including prominent medisatinal fat (that's not a mass in the left lung). CT shows cystic expansion of the right lung (2nd image). This is a congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM) formerly known as congenital cystic airway malformation (CCAM). CPAM is a multicystic mass with abnormal bronchial proliferation. Differential diagnosis includes pulmonary sequestration, congenital lobar overinflation, and bronchogenic cyst (usually not aerated).

My favourite type of movie is “period piece romance but fantasy-horror hijinks happen and now everyone has to adapt to the new genre or die,” ala Curse of the Black Pearl, Anastasia, The Mummy (1999)
