I checked the bolt on the rear wheel, before what's going to be one of the last bike trips this year.

It was tight. Really tight.

Fortunately for me, it means I was doing the maintenance last time the bolt went loose by itself.

Unfortunately, it makes it more or less certain that one or more cowards entered the property I call home, and sabotaged a means of transportation a while ago.

Recently my cheap get-around bike failed just as I started using it that day, the rear wheel went to the side. After investigating, I figured it was the bolt, and got the wheel to the right position. I tightened the bolt, and wondered what had happened. Well, after some thinking, I've concluded that someone undid the bolt, as I could easily tighten it a turn or two, and I'm aware that these should be set tight. So I see it as unlikely I did that mistake. I don't see it as coming undone by itself in summer weather, in relatively stable temperatures. What makes this more interesting, is that the left bike shoe failed about 3 months prior to that. It also failed as I started using it, making me fall to the side and get some light scrapes. I don't see it as likely that these screws would come undone by themselves, from one day of regulsr use to the next. Now I've done some thinking. The tools to undo the bolt and these screws were lying on the porch, and had done so for a while, so whoever did this, probably had one or more looks around, and used my tools.
