I didn’t, and the poor advice I had to offer was … poor. So, I pulled up a few of the blogs I followed that are targeted towards queer Muslims, and put together this little post for you! This meme population has persisted in the pre-internet ecosystem since 44 BC, but for over a millennium the meme remained at very low population levels. The Ides Of March, like many other calendar memes such as April 25th (The Perfect Date), Thursday The 20th, and It's October 3rd, has a life cycle that can confuse amateur memeologists. These memes benefit greatly from the presence of scheduled posts in the ecosystem, appearing absent until their highly specific time, when the memes all bloom simultaneously and dominate the dashes of many users.

The global reaction to Aaron Bushnell’s self immolation has been very jarring. I understand how powerful and scary it is to witness such a young man set himself on fire while screaming for a free Palestine, but to now see comments like “his death will not be in vain” and “the video will haunt me forever” is very strange considering the depravity of the videos we have been seeing coming out of Gaza for 4 months. It seems like people are now using Aaron as the “perfect martyr” of Palestine that we can put all of our efforts into celebrating as if there has not been 30,000+ Palestinian martyrs that we have been begging you to acknowledge

“genocides can’t be compared because each one is unique” as if literally anyone on planet earth making comparisons between genocides isn’t aware that history is more complicated than a set of infinitely repeating identical events. how fucking condescending can you get. the word genocide is a legal term that is meant to standardise our ability to identify a broad set of violent actions and behaviours as genocide even when they differ in the details, because the outcome is the same - a crime against humanity. if no genocide is comparable then genocide does not exist as a category of crime. to deny the comparability of genocides is tantamount to genocide denial
