Well, I didn't post here for a while. Uni kept me busy. The semester is going well so far, I'm not struggling as much as I did last year and I'm optimistic to get good grades this time.
In other news I just started to read the secret history again and turns out the book is just as great the second time.
I can slowly feel winter creeping in and it's getting me excited for the cold season
Ive played at an event from my piano teacher yesterday where every student (or those who could make it) played a piece. I'm proud to say that 1) I didn't fuck up too badly, nobody notices. 2) I've played the most difficult piece by far! 3) a professional opera singer (family of my teacher) asked me to accompany her next year. This feels like such a great honor.
Also now after the event I can start playing other pieces other than clair de lune again which, as much as I love that piece, is a relief

I've decided to make this a studyblr as well I guess because I'm very slow at reading yet I want to post here. Uni hasn't started for me yet (it will next week) and I'm already looking over the scripts I have to prepare. I am kind of panicking because of the amounts of maths (once again....) but it's nothing I can't handle

I need minimum five other people to read Needful Things by Stephen King right now so we can talk about it. This book qualifies as a comedy if you're mean enough

The book I started probably 5 years ago and definitely should have finished by now:
Needful Things - Stephen King
I picked up this book because my dad is a huge Stephen King fan and has read every book by him. He recommended the book to me. Within the last five years I picked the book up, put it down, restarted it again and then stopped again so much so, that although I started it five years ago I still didn't have to restart it entirely. I started around the halfway point, the first murder had just happened.
7/10 I loved it. For the last 200 pages I could barely put it down because I just had to know what happened next. Stephen King managed to write the most depressing characters into one book and I know for a fact that he's written more books with people who are worse off. Mr. Gaunt was infuriatingly smart and the end was a good payoff and a great cliffhanger too.
However, as far as I remember the first half of the book was way too slow and almost bored me (though that could have also been because I took so long reading it). Then the book didn't really have a message which is probably not what the author was going for anyways. I did overall like it and had fun reading.

The book I really, really wanted to read so I started it anyways:
The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald
I watched the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio some time ago and loved it but felt that something was missing, the plot felt too thin, so I bought the book to see if maybe they had to cut out some of the source material.
The book was good, pretty much exactly like the movie and I liked it for all the same reasons. Mainly because I got curious and wanted to know what was actually going on.
Unfortunately 6/10 I liked it, but on 160 pages there is only so much an author can do. The book was incredibly interesting but I wished there was something more to it. I had high expectations of this book, was hoping to read about Gatsby yearning for his love and I got a complicated love triangle instead. Now don't get me wrong, it was still interesting but I'm just not a fan of the whole relationship drama which this book is about so it wasn't for me and the high expectations made it look even more disappointing.

Another book I had yet to finish:
The picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde
I'm not sure why I picked up this book but the premise sounded interesting enough. And it definitely was interesting, though not really what I expected. I'm not sure what I expected though. And don't get me wrong, it didn't disappoint!
Instead of continuing where I left off at that book I restarted (because I didn't remember where I had stopped) and I don't regret it a bit. The book was beautiful from cover to cover.
9/10 The plot was captivating, the philosophy was intriguing and Dorian himself was beautifully written. One point less because I do love myself some stronger side-characters.

A book I still had to finish:
The Goldfinch - Donna Tartt
It's probably fairly obvious how I found this book back then — I had just finished the secret history and was excited — but now it was time to finish it. And I had a really good time. I loved the dark feeling throughout the entire book (or what I remember of it, because I continued reading at chapter eight) and the plot and the characters were just perfect.
8/10 I loved just about everything but sometimes it felt a bit too stretched out for what it was trying to do. I couldn't really connect to the characters and the message wasn't life-changing. Both of which could also be my fault. It was a great book, just not the best for me.

I didn't read for a really long time (for leisure) and after the semester ended, I wanted to start reading some books. However I had a fairly long list of books that I had started and wanted to finish before starting new ones. So that's exactly what I did. And at the time I'm creating this blog I've finally caught up and can start a new book. I want to track what I read so that I don't forget.
