Digicam Diaries I: SD1300

A few months ago I found a camera that I had long since forgotten about. It was packed away in some boxes and hadn’t been touched in years. Luckily, it was in the original box and the charger was right there so I plugged it in and charged up the battery. After a few hours, I came back to check on the battery and it was fully charged. I popped it in the camera and it fired right up. The Canon Powershot SD1300 was one of the first digital cameras I had back in 2010. Simple and easy to use, 12mp, ccd sensor, and small enough to put in your pocket. In all honesty, when I first found this camera I picked it up for shits and giggles, I figured I’d play with it a little bit and I instantly got addicted. Which is funny because 12 years ago, I remember having this camera and being frustrated because the controls on it were limited and I really wanted a DSLR. Flash forward and these are the things I love about it. Once you get the hang of using the camera and making the most out of the limited control that you have, you can really get some cool images out of it. Now days, I throw it in my pocket almost everyday and probably take more photos on it than I take with my phone. Sure you only can shoot jpegs but there is something about the ccd sensor that does it for me. With some basic tweaks in Lightroom, you can really achieve a nice vintage look. Over the last 3-4 months it has come with me on some adventures, a few shoots, and documented everyday life. From morning walks with the dogs to my daughter making a funny face at dinner. Bass & Bugs

In the world of Fly Fishing, remote destinations, exotic species, and expensive gear is often the focus of a majority of the content you see. However, I think there is something to be said for the simplicity and the all around fun you can have catching Bass on the fly in your own backyard. Largemouth are one of the most accessible game fish on the planet and it doesn’t take any fancy gear to have a blast catching them. That’s why Fly Fishing for Bass is one of my all-time favorite pastimes and a huge part of the reason I got into photography and videography to begin with. Full video droppin on the site this weekend! Mid-Morning 🎥 @the_wellington_post - The previous morning we would have been wearing shorts and t-shirts but there was a chill in the air today, the thermostat showed 50 and that was cool enough for me to throw on a hoody. The sun crept over the tree line and illuminated the steaming lake in a foggy, orange morning glow. Despite the beautiful scenery the fishing was slow until about 9am when we heard a splash. I turned around looking in the direction that the sound came from and saw waves rolling away from where a fish had jumped. One thing I’ve learned fly fishing is that it’s not always the prettiest casts that catch the fish, however I laid this one down right where I wanted it underneath the dock and smoked a nice Bass.
