valentines date auction
Tumblr media
a/n: please do not fight me... i meant to finish and post this before valentine's days. i also started this like 9 months ago. i'm working through my drafts, bear with me please.
prompt: ava convinces the staff to throw a valentine's day fling to raise money for the school.
“So this year to bring in some extra money, I’ve come up with a brilliant idea. I think you’re all going to love it because it involves all of my favorite things.” Ava announced at the mic with a smile causing the teachers to roll their eyes.
“Get on with it.” Melissa called from her seat in the gym. Barbara leaned over to swat her thigh as a warning but Melissa wasn’t too worried about her when she felt the younger woman on her other side shaking with giggles at her comment. Y/n Y/Ln, Abbott Elementary’s new PE teacher. She’d been working there since the start of the school year and she was approaching her first year with Abbott. She’d somehow wormed her way into the core group of teachers at Abbott and she unknowingly wormed her way into the forefront of Melissa Schemmenti’s mind.
“We’re doing a Valentine’s Day Date Auction!” Ava grinned as she clicked to another slide on her powerpoint. “I’ll be auctioning off dates with our most attractive staff! And before you ask if this is legal, I don’t care. It’s for the children. So who wants in?” The room filled with concerned silence as no one made a move to sign up. “Oh don’t act like you people are getting dates on your own. This could be great for you,” At the continued silence Ava sighed, “Fine, the dates will be to wherever you like with a credit to handle the cost. It’s a free outing, people.”
There’s a bit more bite and people’s hands started to raise in agreement. Melissa and Barb both shook their heads as Ava wrote people’s names down. “I can’t believe anyone is agreeing to this.” Melissa groaned.
“Who’re you telling, girlfriend? My Gerald would never participate in an auction like this and that’s the only man I’ll ever go on a date with.”
“It must be so nice to not have to go through the whole courting stage anymore. It’s so exhausting trying to find a date nowadays.” Y/n grumbled crossing her legs as she leaned over to speak to Barb.
“Oh don’t tell me you struggle to find a date?” Melissa eyed suspiciously.
“Oh yeah. It’s hard out here. It’s so hard in fact that I will be the grand finale of this auction.” Y/n grimaced as both of the older women eyed her in shock.
“You’re up for sale?” Melissa asked incredulously.
“Not for sale, more like for rent.” Y/n corrected causing both women to roll their eyes. “Oh come on, it’s for a good cause and I get a free meal out of it. There aren’t really any cons. I could meet my wife.”
Barb seemed to be sold a bit on the idea, but the redhead was still on the fence. She and the PE teacher had been doing a bit of a flirtatious tango all year and she could never really tell if she was serious or not. Melissa had gotten to a point in her life where she really didn’t question who she was attracted to anymore, but she hadn’t figured out how to tell who was seriously attracted to her yet. Casual flirting aside, Melissa really didn’t know what Y/n’s type was. And she definitely didn’t have the guts to find out if she was her type. But that didn’t mean she wanted to see her auctioned off to some young philly broad.
“Plus it was either me or Gregory. He looked like he was going to have a heartattack when Ava asked which of us was going to seal the deal. I do what I can to keep you core teachers alive.” Y/n smirked with a final shrug. That caused both older women to chuckle, one easier than the other, but Y/n didn’t seemed to notice the confliction on Melissa’s face.
Once Ava was satisfied with the number of teachers on her Valentine’s Day Auction roster, she closed the meeting out and release the teachers to their evenings. She hurried down the steps of the steps of the stage to catch Y/n as she stood up from her seat next to Melissa.
“Y/n, how do you feel about dressing up as a construction worker?” Ava asked excitedly as she pulled up a picture on her phone.
“Absolutely not. You’ll be lucky if I show up in something other than a track suit.” Y/n said pushing the woman’s phone away from her face.
“What about-” Ava started.
“No.” Y/n cut her off with her best smile. She reached up and patted Ava’s shoulder with a shake of her head. “Keep asking and I won’t show up at all.” That last threat seemed shut Ava up with a grumble. She sulked off with her roster and headed for her office as everyone readied themselves to go home for the night. Y/n looked at the two veteran teachers with smiles, “Alright ladies, I’ll see you both tomorrow. Have a great evening.”
“You too Y/n.” Barbara smiled as she head for the door, Melissa trailing behind a bit as she caught the PE teachers eyes.
“See ya kid.” Melissa called, causing the younger teacher to shoot a wink over her shoulder as she moved to help Mr. Johnson clear the chairs from the gym. Melissa’s cheeks heated as she rounded the corner out of them gym and fell in step with Barb. They briefly parted to lock up their classrooms and when they hit the couple of steps outside of the school Melissa was shocked for the second time within the last hour.
“So are you gonna bid on Y/n or tell her how you feel before the auction?” Barb asked with a knowing smirk.
“What?” Melissa asked incredulously trying to hide the heat rising to her cheeks.
“Oh don’t play dumb with me. You’ve been all but drooling over her for the better part of the school year. I don’t think I can watch it for much longer. This is your chance to make a move. She said it herself, she’s single and very much looking. So much so that she’s agreed to auction off and evening with herself. What can you need?”
“Maybe any sort of indication that she feels the same way? I mean yeah we casually flirt, but how am I suppose to pursue anything if the whole thing was just a joke to her?” Melissa scowled.
“I highly doubt that’s the case. Do you know how many times Ava has attempted to do that whole flirting thing with her? Or the amount of parents, suddenly concerned with the PE curriculum. She hasn’t shown anyone as much attention as she consistently shows you.” Barb listed as Gerald pulled into the lot next Melissa’s car. Barbara smiled and waved at her husband before turning to look at her friend, “You’ve got to make a move girlfriend, before one of these parents snatch your chance at the auction.”
Melissa grumbles but heads to her home to think over what her friend said. She hated how right Barb sounded.
-
The Valentine’s Auction came much sooner than anyone was ready for. The morning of the event seemed to have the entire teachers lounge buzzing with excitement and trepidation. Janine, ever the chatty Kathy had taken to questioning everyone on what they planned to wear tonight. As soon as Y/n entered the room, Janine was up and buzzing.
“Oh Y/n! What are you wearing tonight?” The shorter woman bounced on her heels next to the PE teacher as she doctored up a mug of tea.
“Why? What have you heard?” Y/n asked suspiciously, hoping Ava hasn’t somehow told everyone about her costume ideas.
“Well I just want to make sure I’m not the only one wearing festive things. And I wanna make sure we’re not wearing the same thing of course. Wouldn’t want the fashion police to have a ‘who wore better’ moment.” Janine rambled and Y/n nodded following as much as she could.
“Oh. I don’t know yet. I’ve got a couple pink tracksuits that might really draw people in.” Y/n chuckled taking her seat next to Melissa with a grin. “What do you think, is Nike sexy enough to secure a date with a Philly eleven like yourself?”
Melissa rolled her eyes at Barbs foot kicking her under the table, “I’m sure you could pull a Philly eleven wearing far less than a pink Nike tracksuit.”
Y/n smiled and winked at the older teacher before turning her attention back to Janine, “Listen Janine. I highly doubt we’ll be wearing the same thing but don’t worry, I’ll have something within the valentines color scheme on.” The second grade teacher nodded, heading back to her seat.
“So you’re both coming tonight right?” Y/n asked hopefully.
“Yep, Gerald and I will be there. I wouldn’t want to miss seeing you meet your date.” Barb smiled with raised eyebrows.
“How about you Red? Gonna be there to bail me out if some crazy bids on me?” Y/n asked.
“Anything for you, hun.” Melissa smiled, knowing those words held a lot more weight than she was letting on.
“Good. I’ll see you both later than.” Y/n smiled squeezing Melissa’s shoulder affectionately before heading to the gym.
-
“Welcome to the Avalentine’s Day Auction! We’re so glad you could all join us for our fundraising event this school year. As you know, Abbott is always looking for ways to better our school for your students and with that in mind, I hope you brought your checkbooks and rich friends because we’ve got some sexy staff members ready to go home with you all for a good cause.” Ava smiled looking out over the crowd.
As Ava stood on the stage, Melissa sat in a table toward the back of the room with Barb, Gerald, and Gregory. Jacob and Janine were off scoping the potential bidders out. She herself was scoping the room out as well, but she was mostly looking for Y/n. She hadn’t seen her since that morning and part of her was much more desperate to see her than she usually allowed herself. It didn’t help that she had brought her checkbook and knew a part of her was willing to drain her savings to keep Y/n from going out with one of these young broads. As if she realized she looked ridiculous scanning the room, Melissa turned back to her table companions. Janine and Jacob came back shortly after Melissa pulled herself from her own search. Janine panting out of breath and Jacob grinning mischievously ready to spill the details of their crowd search.
“There are quite a few people here. And we heard a lot of interest.”
“Interest in the two of you?” Melissa found herself asking. She didn’t mean to sound so shocked but it just came out that way. Both of the younger teachers shrank a bit but recovered when the redhead looked apologetic.
“Not exactly. Most of the women here are torn between being disappointed Gregory isn’t up there and excited that Y/n is. Speaking of, has anyone see her? I wanna see what outfit she went with.” Jacob said rising from his seat to scan the room. Oblivious to the panic he’d cause within Melissa.
“Oh there she is, damn! She cleans up nice.” Janine called as she drew the groups attention to the doors to the gym. And Melissa damn near forgot how to breathe. Y/n paused in the doorway scanning the room, for their group presumably, but she was dressed in something none of them had ever seen her in. Gone were her trainers, baggy sweats, and matching hoodie sets. She was clad in fitted high waisted trousers and a matching vest top that showed just enough skin to have Melissa’s mind running. Her hair was held back by a red head band that matched her red ankle boots and leather jacket. Melissa was at a true loss for words. Y/n spotted the group and started making her way over with a smile.
Before she could get too close Melissa felt Barb’s hand cup her chin and push up, “Close your mouth, you’ll catch flies.” She teased lightly causing Gerald to chuckle.
Tonight was going to be a long long night. And she knew in her heart she might leave broker than she already was.
-
“Alright ladies, this last one is for you!” Ava grinned as she motioned for Y/n to come up to the stage.
The PE teacher grimaced and looked at the people at her table nervously, “Wish me luck.” She called before leaving to be paraded around the stage. She made it to the stairs and as she came into the view for the room, the cheers followed. Her cheeks heated in embarrassment but she trudged on reminding herself of the cause and the prospect of a decent meal on Ava’s dime.
“Last but certainly not least. The finest thing to happen to Abbott Elementary since I became principal. Our PE teacher, Y/n Y/Ln! Strut your stuff boo!” Ava introduced causing the room to erupt further. And Melissa’s scowl to set.
“She’s very fit as you can see. Super funny and super hot. She could probably bench you. Let’s start the bidding at $50?” Ava started. That didn’t last long though. Hands and paddles shot up eagerly at the price. So far, no one had gone for over $150, but Ava had a feeling Y/n was going to be the exception.
“Can I get a $100 then? $150? $200?” Ava called and some hands dropped but there were still quite a few waving in the air. Ava motioned for Y/n to do a spin on the stage and she obliged if only to make the whole thing go a bit faster.
“Alright how about $300?” That seemed to do it and there was one hand left up. Y/n recognized her, Lauren Williams. She’d been one of the first people to schedule a meeting with Y/n when she started claiming her son had some health issues that may impact his participation in the gym class. After the first meeting, it was very clear her son had no problems and it was really just a ploy to get the gym teacher alone. She’d been dodging her since she started and she really wasn’t looking forward to how this was going.
“300 going once, going twice…” Ava called waving the bedazzled gavel she’d gotten herself. Until a familiar hand shot up at the back table. “I see 350? Alright Schemmenti, I see you.” Ava grinned. “Do I hear 400?” Lauren’s hand was back up, quickly. “450? Anyone?”
All eyes shifted to Melissa to see her contemplation before she waved her hand again and Ava squealed in delight. Everyone of the teachers at the table looked at her incredulously but her eyes were darting between Lauren’s head and the stage.
“450 going once, going twice, and…” Before Ava could even finish, Lauren shot to her feet and called out.
“500!” Everyone in the room looked at the woman in shock.
“What?” Y/n asked in shock. Eyes goes to Ava in alarm. $500 for a date with her was absolutely insane. Anyone willing to pay that had to b crazy.
“Sold!” Ava grinned. And the room erupted in applause.
-
Melissa was sulking in her seat when Y/n finally returned to table. She couldn’t believe she’d been outbid like that. Part of her was happy considering she wasn’t really prepared for the financial consequences of this little auction, but that didn’t make her forget the date Y/n would be going on with Lauren. Everyone else was scattered around the gym. Dancing with their dates, eating the refreshments, or playing the various valentine’s day them games that they had set up. The redhead didn’t look up when the younger teacher joined her but she knew exactly who had joined her even without looking.
“Damn red, if you wanted to go out with me that bad you could’ve just asked me. I wouldn’t have charged $500 for one night. I might’ve made you cook for me, but five big ones is asking a bit much especially when I actually like you.” Y/n said taking a sip of the punch they were serving. Melissa gazed at the younger woman a little dumbfounded but she didn’t seem to notice as she continued to talk. “Lauren and I are gonna go mini golfing Saturday morning, yuck I know. But I was thinking you and I could do dinner Saturday, if you’re not busy. That way I can get that out of the way. Do you she’ll try to kill me? I’m a little scared and I know I said there were no cons but that was before she basically jumped on the table to ensure she could spend $500 on an hour of my time…” Y/n continued to ramble.
Melissa had no choice but to laugh as she listened. “Is this you asking me out?” The older woman finally interrupted, trying to play it cool.
“I didn’t think I needed to ask you formally, since you almost spent $1,000 to keep me from going out with someone else.” Y/n grinned as she finally faced Melissa.
“Oh you’re exaggerating now.” Melissa scoffed as her cheeks heated a bit.
“Well duh, who else can say they had a Philly eleven start a bidding war over them. I’m going to milk this as much as I can. I’ll wear it as a badge of honor. Melissa Schemmenti almost emptied her bank account for me.”
“Oh shut it will you.” Melissa groaned and shoved the younger teacher playfully. “The answer is yes. Even if you don’t think you need to ask me formally. I’d love to do dinner Saturday night. And any other night you’d like.”
“Good. Cause I can be very hungry. And all I’ve heard is that you’re like the best cook in Philly.” Y/n grinned scooting her folding chair over closer to Melissa’s.
“Oh you’re in for a treat. And a Schemmenti meal is worth well over five hundred bucks.” Melissa teased.
“Yeah, well so are you Red.” Y/n smiled softly leaning over to kiss Melissa’s blushing cheek sweetly.
Outbid but extremely happy.

Are You Jealous?
Chessy x Reader
prompt: jealous chessy :)
a/n: i rewatched parent trap recently and the craziest plotline in that movie was martin and chessy being lovers. both of them were clearly gay.
a/n: sorry this took so long lol unedited and probably pretty bad
Tumblr media
“I’d love to see you tonight.” Y/n smiled down the phone. It’d been about a week since she and Chessy had seen each other and with the house to herself, Chessy was going to take advantage.
“Well Nick and the girls are going camping for the weekend, if you’re up for a drive out to the vineyard?” Chessy asked hopefully.
“I think I can swing that. What time should I be there?”
“Everyone should be gone by 5. So anytime after should be good.” Chessy grinned.
“I’ll be there by 5:30. SHould I bring anything?”
“Just yourself. I’ll make us some dinner and we can crack open something from the cellar to go with.”
“Sounds divine. I’ll call before I head out. See you soon.” Y/n smiled down the phone and waited for Chessy’s reply.
“Can’t wait.”
-
“Dinner was great Chess. Thank you so much.” Y/n smiled around her glass as she sat at the kitchen island watching Chessy move around the kitchen. They’d been dating for about four months and were as smitten as a couple could be. After Meredith, Nick started renting out the vineyard as a wedding venue as a bit of passive income. Y/n’s company had been one of the first to host a ceremony on the grounds. she’d been lost and had somehow driven up the Parker’s driveway and was met with a very beautiful woman waving her hands to stop her. from there their romance only flourished.
“anything for you honey. after i finish these dishes we can go sit under the stars for a bit?”
“i’d love to. why don’t i dry do we can start relaxing sooner? i need as much relaxation as i can get with this current bride.”
“well get your cute butt over here and get to work. the stars won’t wait forever.” chessy grinned, reaching to pull the woman close by the waist. The couple washed in tandem, giggling and stealing kisses as they went. really just enjoying each other's company. Just as they put the last dish away, voices floated through the open floorplan startling the couple apart.
“Chessy, who’s car is that?” Hallie called being the first to enter the house. It wasn’t long before more footsteps were heard and before they knew it they were no longer alone. Now standing face to face with a very intimately domestic scene.
“Uh. Hi guys. What are you doing back so early?” Chessy asked, stepping toward the small family.
“Rain at the campsite so we decided to try again next weekend.” nick shrugged eyeing the guest placing the last of the dried dishes in the cabinet.
“Bummer. I’m sure next weekend will be better. We’ll just be going then.” Chessy answered quickly grabbing Y/n’s elbow in an effort to leave the kitchen. Before she could even move around the island all four members grinned mischievously at the nanny and moved in.
“Wait Chessy, aren’t you going to introduce us to your friend?” Annie asked looking past Chessy and toward Y/n. Chessy fixed them with a withering glare but sighed pulling Y/n forward as she prepared for the embarrassment.
“Everyone this is Y/n, my friend,” she smiled toward the twins in censorship.
“Y/n, this is Nick Parker. He owns the vineyard. Elizabeth James, and their daughters Annie and Hallie.”
Y/n smiled, politely extending her hand to shake each member of the family’s hand before stopping briefly at Elizabeth’s. “I know this is a long-shot but you wouldn’t happen to be the Elizabeth James? Like the wedding dress designer Elizabeth James, would you?”
“Guilty,” Elizabeth smiled.
“Oh I love your work. I’m a wedding planner and all the best dresses I’ve seen in the last 12 years have come from you.” Y/n gushed causing Elizabeth’s cheeks to glow in a blush.
“How sweet, I’m so glad my dresses seem to rank so well.”
“Oh most definitely, I hope you’re still designing by the time I finally have a wedding of my own. I’ve always imagined I’d be in an Elizabeth James original for my special day.”
“I would love that, have you already got ideas? I could roughly sketch you something since we’re all here for the evening.” ELizabeth offered. Y/n took a step around Chessy to follow ELizabeth before turning back to her girlfriend.
“Do you mind Chess?” Y/n asked quietly, knowing that if Chessy said she did, she’d politely decline and hope she got the chance another day.
“No, go ahead, knock yourself out. Just come find me when you’re done.” Chessy smiled, pushing the woman over toward Elizabeth with a smile.
“Great, I can even show you some recent stuff I’ve been thinking about.” Elizabeth grinned, pulling Y/n through the hall toward her work room. As soon as the women disappeared Chessy could feel three pairs of eyes on her.
“Your friend, hm?” Hallie grinned rounding the counter to one side of the nanny.
“How come we’ve never met this friend before?” Annie asked rounding to the other side, effectively caging Chessy between them.
“That’s none of your business. And rain at the campsite? When’d you all become such babies?” Chessy chided, poking the girls in their ribs. They giggled helplessly as the older woman tickled them. “Wanna watch a movie?”
-
The movie had been on for half an hour and the other women had yet to return. Chessy’s attention had been divided the moment they pressed play. During the quieter parts of the movie, she could hear giggles floating through the halls. Chessy’s eyes wandered from the screen in hopes of catching a glimpse of her girlfriend returning, but she wasn’t rewarded. Both Annie and Hallie had anchored themselves on either side of Chessy, legs stretched to each end of the couch. They’d both been commenting on the film and asking questions and Chessy tried to keep up but after noticing her gaze shift to the hallway for what felt like the 100th time they took to giggling and quietly talking to each other.
As the credits rolled across the screen, Chessy was finally granted some reprieve from her torture. Elizabeth and Y/n came around the corner arms linked, quietly giggling over a sketchbook.
“Oh Y/n, you’re just delightful. I can’t believe you’ve done four weddings here and I’m only just meeting you.” Elizabeth shook her head in disbelief.
“My brides are always extremely high maintenance. They make it a bit hard to socialize at all!”
“Well, I’ll have to have you come by my local studio sometime. We just have to get together again.”
“Oh Elizabeth, that’d be great. I’ll have Chessy give you my info and we can connect sometime soon.” Y/n smiled as she placed her hands on Chessy’s head affectionately over the back of the couch.
“I’ll be sure to share that.” Chessy mumbled gazing up at the two of you. Both of their eyes still on the sketchbook.
“Perfect! Girls, it's getting rather late. Say goodnight.” Elizabeth smiled down at the twins while rubbing her hand over Y/n’s shoulder. The girls obediently wished their goodnights before leaving the room. As they left Y/n caught sight of the time herself.
“It is a bit late, I should head home. I’ve got a few early meetings. It was lovely meeting you all. Chess, will you walk me out?” Y/n asked, finally meeting the older woman’s gaze. The older woman followed behind Y/n closely and as soon as they were out of sight of the family her hands were resting on her waist.
They came to a stop outside of Y/n’s car and the younger woman turned to face Chessy, “Well that was fun.” Y/n smiled as Chessy backed her into the car.
“Well I’m glad someone had fun.” Chessy mumbled wrapping her arms around Y/n’s waist with a pout.
“And what’s that supposed to mean? Did you not have fun tonight?” Y/n frowned as Chessy sighed and dodged her eyes.
“I barely saw you tonight.” Chessy huffed.
Y/n looked over the nanny’s face with a smile. Seeing the jealousy simmering in her mind. With a grin Y/n splayed her hands across Chessy’s chest and pulled on the collar of her shirt. “Wait a minute. Are you jealous?”
“What? Pshh, No.” Chessy rolled her eyes.
“Oh I don’t think that’s true at all.”
“Well, I think you spent the whole evening with the Elizabeth James.”
“Chess…” Y/n dragged out, pulling the older woman closer to her.The older woman grumbled but ultimately sighed as the younger woman pinched her cheek. “You know I would’ve stayed if you asked.”
“You seemed so excited. Listen I’m just grumpy the evening didn’t go as planned. I don’t particularly like sharing you.”
“Well next time, we’ll aim for no interruptions hm?” Y/n smiled sweetly.
“I like the sound of that.”
“Now give me a kiss so we can say goodnight.”

hinge - a potential series
eventual melissa schemmenti x reader
synopsis: melissa joins hinge. who will she match with?
a/n: hello yes i know i’ve been gone for over a month after saying i was going to finish some things. my job got SUPER busy! but i’m trying to get back into writing and with that in mind i wanted to do a little writing exercise that i thought could be fun. so basically this will be a one shot series where melissa matches with different readers each installment. i was thinking if you all were interested i could open my requests for descriptions of readers you’d like to see melissa chat with and date! this is just an introductory piece to the vision, but let me know if you all would be interested in submitting readers for this. if not that’s cool as well ahaha! but either way, i hope you enjoy this chaotic prologue.
“You know, you should really get back out there Melissa.” Jacob’s voice floated over Melissa's shoulder. The older woman felt the tension between her eyebrows tighten as she slowly turned to address the young teacher. Not only had he been listening in on her conversation with Barb, but now he was giving advice. She knew they shouldn’t have let him stay for the Christmas dinner, now he thinks he’s a part of their circle.
"What are ya talking about?" Melissa glared. Jacob had the sense to look a bit squeamish under her gaze but still cleared his throat as if to speak.
"I just mean, it's been months since Gary stopped stocking the vending machine. And kind of disappeared off the face of the Earth. And you're a beautiful woman, who deserves to be treated well. I'm sure there's a sea of men just waiting to make you their wife." Jacob rambled as his face grew red.
"First of all kid, I had nothing to do with Gary's career change and if you tell anyone different we'll have a problem. Second of all, I know I'm hot. I'm a Philly 11. I don't need no man making me his wife. I'm perfectly fine with the way my life is right now. Not that it's any of your business." Melissa scoffed with an eyeroll.
"Well that doesn't mean you can't see what's out there." Janine piped up from her seat next to Jacob.
"Oh you're one to talk, what does that even mean?" Melissa asked.
"Well, I'm not looking for a relationship right now because I'm working on myself. But that doesn't mean I don't want to see who's out there. Or even get a little validation from knowing someone wants me."
Melissa listened curiously, "and how exactly do you do that? Are you going to bars and turning down drinks or something?"
"No! Dating apps. People see my profile and like me but I don't have to say anything back." Janine explained.
"Oh yes! Before I met Zack I had a profile on all of the apps, just to make sure I wasn't missing any of the validation." Jacob added in causing Janine to nod.
"I think that could be good for you." Barb hummed before taking another bite of her salad.
"Not you too!" Melissa groaned before Ava walked through the door swiping on her phone.
"What we talking about?" Ava grinned looking around the tables.
"We're trying to convince Melissa to get back out there. On a dating app."
"Oh you should definitely do that. There's a market of men you're missing out on. Get you a young thing to get all up in that Italian Dressing." Ava said wiggling her eyebrows before reaching to make her coffee.
"Okay. None of that." Melissa groaned as she and Barb shook their heads in disappointment.
"No, you don't have to start out doing that. You can just start out seeing who's out there. Getting some likes, giving some likes, and then if you want to you can move it to chatting. It's all at your own speed." Janine tried to explain.
Before Melissa could even try to continue disagreeing, Ava had finished dumping sugar in her mug and had snatched Melissa's phone from the table. "The question is, what app do we get her on. I think Tinder is out if she's not gonna let any all up in her business. Bumble is dead and boring. What else is there?"
"How about none?"
"Oh Hinge! That ones really good." Jacob volunteered and Ava nodded moving to download the app on the older woman's phone.
"You are insane! Give me back my phone." Melissa tried to lunge at the taller woman.
"Stop fighting girlfriend. Just let it happen." Barbara appeased placing her hand on Melissa's shoulder in an attempt to calm her.
"Oh not you too!" Melissa sighed.
"Give in Schemmenti. I'm already creating your account." Ava grinned flashing the phone toward the older woman.
Seeing the phone, Melissa just shook her head. "I hate all of yous."
Ava took a seat in the middle of the table and smirked over her shoulder at Melissa. "Alright so let's get these questions and pictures together. Gotta show every how hot you are!"
Melissa scoffed but only rolled her eyes in response.
"So I got all the basics, now who are you looking for? Just men? Or are you down for a lil lady action? You seem like you'd know your way around the lady parts." Ava asked.
Tumblr media
"Oh my god. You are the WORST!"
"That's not answering my question. You know what, I'll just put it as bisexual for now. Keep your options open. Let's find pictures for the prompts. You have any nudes in here I should be worried about seeing?" Ava asked shielding her eyes playfully.
"No? What kind of lady do you think I am?"
"I don't know. I'm just saying. Okay I already did the first one now the next one is 'As seen on my Mom's fridge', how about this cute picture of you and your blonde sister?"

"Yes that would be cute!" Janine smiled.
"Oh put this picture I secretly took of her crocheting on there. People love crafts!" Jacob said air dropping the photo to Melissa's phone.
"Why are you secretly taking pictures of me?" Melissa glared.
Tumblr media
"Oh hush, it's helpful now. Oh a writing prompt, what are your simple pleasures?"
"Food, wine, and the Eagles." Melissa answered quickly.
"Let's say Cooking, wine, and the Eagles. People like cooking." Janine amended.
"Another picture, let's do this cute one with me in the back. That'll really get you some likes. I'm pretty well known around this app."
Tumblr media
"Last prompt, the key to your heart?" Janine asked.
"A clean kitchen and an empty stomach." Melissa spoke with a shrug.
"Oh cause you like to cook for people. You're so good at this. Yes." Janine swooned.
"And with that, you're live. Now you just wait for the local baddies to match with you."
As Ava handed the phone, Melissa had no choice but to scroll. Well I guess this is what we're doing now.
"If this ends poorly, all of yous better watch your back."

Hiya~
Your fics are amazing!!!
I was wondering if you'd write a Melissa x reader about the reader going out clubbing with Ava and getting super drunk. When they get home the reader has the bright idea to call Melissa at 3am to tell her how she feels about her. Melissa listens to the reader in shock but also amusement when she realizes reader is loaded. Melissa plays along asking reader a bunch of questions which they answer unabashedly. Eventually reader falls asleep and wakes up with no recollection of the night before. And is super surprised to find Melissa cooking breakfast for them. It leads to Melissa explaining everything the reader said to her last night. You can dictate the ending.
<3
A/N: oh my gosh hello! thank you so much for your kind words and your lovely request! i hope you enjoy it as much as my other fics! <3

“Hot girls to the front!” Ava sang as she pulled Y/n passed the line waiting outside of the club. The younger woman gawked at her boss hesitantly as she felt all of the other people in line glare at them. This was only their first club of the night and she highly doubted Ava would want to stop at just the one but she’d promised her friend a night out and she was here to deliver.
“Sorry.” Y/n called over her shoulder sheepishly as they siddled up to the bouncers standing guard in front of the door. It wasn’t long before the rope was being moved and Ava was shimmying her way into the club and toward the bar. The music was deafening but Y/n pushed it aside with the thought of a fruity drink clouding her judgement.
“So what do you want to start with? I’m thinking shots.” Ava said enthusiastically once they found an opening at the bar.
“That’s a no. I want something fruity and pretty.” Y/n said looking at the menu for pictures.
“That doesn’t surprise me at all.” Ava rolled her eyes before placing an order for the both of them. As soon as their drinks were in hand Ava snagged a table and eyed the room for what Y/n could only assume would be her prey for the evening. Her eyes remained on the room but her voice broke through the music. “So when are you and red filling out the proper paperwork to date? I can only wait so long, as your boss.”
“What are you talking about?” Y/n asked around the straw of her pink drink.
“Oh don’t play dumb with me. I just need it in writing in case anything were to happen.” Ava shrugged.
“I’m not playing dumb, I have no idea what you’re talking about. Who is red? And when did we start dating?” Y/n asked seriously.
“Melissa, stupid.” Ava said wacking her shoulder in annoyance.
“When did I start dating Melissa? Where was I when that happened?” Y/n asked delivering a wack back.
“Don’t tell me you still haven’t confessed your undying love for her? I thought last time we went out you said you wouldn’t wait any longer? You couldn’t bare the back and forth flirting. Your heart yearned for hers and all that romantic shit you say when you get a couple drinks in you.”
Y/n gapped at the taller woman, “I did not say that. There’s no way I said that, especially to you.”
“What is that supposed to me? I’m literally your best friend.” Ava said in offense.
“Since when?” Y/n said with a grin knowing she’d successfully steered Ava away from the original topic of conversation. She knew Ava was probably right, but she hadn’t had enough to drink to discuss her crush on Melissa. Sober Y/n was far too scared to even think about how deep those feelings actually went but apparently drunk Y/n couldn’t shut up about the older woman. Before Ava could get to carried away Y/n moved to distract by suggesting they get more drinks. They were ubering home and in the comfort of her own home there was no reason she couldn’t allow herself to indulge in all that is Melissa Schemmenti. “Another one!”
-
“Good night bestie!” Y/n sang from her front door as she watched Ava ease her way down the stairs.
“I knew we were best friends. I’ll see you Monday whore.” Ava grinned, tripping slightly over nothing.
“Sir, yes sir.” Y/n saluted before disappearing behind her closed door and floating over to her couch. She splayed herself across the couch with her hand over her eyes. The world was still spinning but only one thing seemed to be at the center of her mind. Melissa Schemmenti. No matter what she did, she couldn’t think of anything else.
“I wonder what she’s doing right now.” Y/n smiled behind her hands. She thought about how earlier in the day Melissa had wrapped her arm around her pulling her close to whisper some stupid joke in her ear as they walked out of the school with Barbara. She could practically feel the heat that fell over her ear at the woman’s voice. She could almost make out what she said, but as soon as she reached for the memory it seemed to slip away. With a pout, Y/n sat up reaching for her phone. She had to know what Melissa said, or it would bother her for the rest of the night. And she just wanted to hear her voice.
“Hey Siri! Call Melissa Schemmenti red heart,” Y/n commanded eyeing the screen. The automated voice droned a confirmation that the call was being placed and then the phone was ringing. She leaned back into the couch with her eyes closed and waited patiently for the older woman to pick up the phone.
“Y/n?” A husky voice crackled over the phone.
“Melissa,” Y/n sighed dreamily. “What are you doing?”
“Y/n, is everything okay?” Melissa asked focusing on the call as she clawed her way out of sleep.
“Yeah! Why wouldn’t it be?” Y/n asked.
“Hon, it’s 3:30 in the morning.”
“Oh,” Y/n paused. “What are you doing?”
Melissa pulled the phone from her ear with a laugh, “I’m in bed, what are you doing?”
“I just got home. Ava and I went clubbing. Crazy time. I wish you were there.” Y/n smiled as she spoke.
“Oh really?” Melissa asked understanding the younger woman was definitely drunk.
“Well yeah, you’re my favorite person like ever. I wish we could be together all the time.”
“Awe you don’t mean that hon.” Melissa said feeling the heat rise in her body.
“I do, I really really really do. You’re the best. I think I love you.” Y/n said dreamily before moving to speak again. “What are you doing tomorrow? Do you wanna hang out?”
Melissa sat quietly on the phone as she tried to think through Y/n’s words, “Uh sure hon. How much did you have to drink tonight?” Melissa asked trying to rationalize the younger woman’s words.
“Only like this much.” Y/n said bringing her fingers up to her eyes to measure how much she’d had. “What do you want to do tomorrow? Can we have breakfast? I miss you. And I bet you’re so pretty first thing in the morning.”
“Well aren’t you a sweet drunk. What else do you think about me?” Melissa asked, now fully awake and leaning against her headboard to listen intently.
“I think you’re so funny. Oh and so smart. You have so many guys, and I always wonder how are there that many guys in the world but I don’t wanna sound stupid so I just wonder to myself. And then I think ‘Wow, Melissa has that many guys ready to do what she says’ and then I’m even more shocked. Oh I also think you’re so beautiful. So so so beautiful. I love it when you wear that pink cause that’s my favorite color and in my mind I think you did it for me. Or when you wear green? So sexy. I wish I was with you. Like all the time.” Y/n rambled down the line around hiccups and yawns shocking Melissa into silence. Not hearing anything else and being hit with a rather large yawn, Y/n spoke again. “I think I’m gonna go to bed now.”
“Alright hon, last question and then you can go to sleep. What do you want for your birthday?” Melissa knew it was random but she’s been asking for weeks and Y/n kept claiming she wanted nothing.
“A hug. Goodnight.” And then all Melissa heard was heavy breathing. Shaking her head she hung up turning over in her bed. What an informative call.
-
Y/n woke slowly, feeling the dryness in her mouth first. The headache behind her eyes came next and she groaned unhappily as the pain in her back pulled her into consciousness. “I hate Ava.” She mumbled as she rubbed her eyes tiredly.
“Good Morning Sleeping Beauty.” Melissa called from the doorway leading into the kitchen causing Y/n to jump.
“Mel? What are you doing here?” Y/n asked, eyes startling open as she looked over the back of the couch toward the older woman.
“Making pancakes.” Melissa responded simply.
“Oh?”
“Yeah, I figured you wouldn’t remember asking me to come over between the alcohol and the love confessions. So I just came anyway.” Melissa smirked leaning into her hip.
“Love whats?” Y/n scrambled to her feet feeling a wave of nausea hit.
“Love confessions. You’re a sweet drunk, I wasn’t expecting that.”
“Oh my god.” Y/n groaned as her cheeks reddened in embarrassment.
“Tell ya what, go get showered and comfy and we can talk about it over breakfast. I’d like to hear all those compliments while you’re sober.” Melissa winked before heading back into the kitchen with a far more noticeable sway rocking her hips. Y/n stared after her, dazed and embarrassed but it only lasted shortly before hope bloomed in her chest.

Black Ice

Winter in Philly. Beautiful and dangerous. Especially when you work at a neglected school with a janitor who always seems to be doing anything but his job. As soon as Melissa pulled into the parking lot, she could see the snow covering the steps of the school. The parking lot had a few cars in it, but none that looked like Mr. Johnson and she made a mental note to tell Ava about the hazard. Melissa collected her purse and made her way toward the doors when she felt her phone vibrating in the pocket of her jacket. She paused at the steps and pulled the device out to check the notification.
Barbara: Think I caught whatever cold has been tearing through the kindergarten. Taking the day. If the sub asks, you know where the plans are. Prayers xx Barb
Melissa sighed solemnly, getting ready to craft a message to reassure her friend she’d handle it.
Melissa: I got it, feel better. Let me know if you need anything.
As soon as she hit send she moved to head up the stairs and hit a slick patch of ice. It happened far too fast for her to actually do anything, but once she was down she was down. She tried grabbing the railing but fell just short and found her back soaking wet with the ice and slush.
“Shit.” She hissed quietly as she felt the pain spreading through her body. She took a moment to catch her breath before rolling to her knees to get up. With a steady hand on the railing she pulled herself up, dusting her back off as far as she could reach. Melissa’s eyes danced across the parking lot looking for anyone that could’ve seen and sighed at the still empty parking lot.
The first step instantly stopped her as a spot of pain shot through her leg and up her back. She groaned as it faded as she took the weight off of her foot and gazed down at her boot-clad foot. There didn’t seem to be any physically visible marks but she could tell it was bruised somehow. But she had no time to worry about that. With squared shoulders and practiced stoicism, Melissa Schemmenti mustered all of her strength to enter the school as normally as possible. And with that strength, she planned on making it through the school day as well.
The day had gotten off to a pretty bad start for Melissa and it only seemed to be getting worse as her pain increased. Despite the throbbing radiating through her body, she made no attempts at getting help. She did her best to show no signs of damage and when she couldn’t she made sure she was alone to react. No one really seemed to notice and that was serving the redhead for the day. Without her best friend, she wasn’t expected to talk or engage as much when in the break room. For her students, she taught from her desk and if anyone needed help she had them come to her. She walked the halls alone and limited all of her normal interactions to only the necessary ones. She was cruising rather uncomfortably through the day.
What she didn’t account for was Y/n, a newer teacher being observant. Y/n stayed to herself most days and only really spoke when spoken to but she did a lot of watching. She and Melissa really weren’t close at all, but she’d spoke to her in passing when Mrs. Howard was around. SO when the day started the first thing she realized was that Barbara Howard was not at school today. She didn’t see her car in the parking lot and her theory was further confirmed when she wasn’t standing outside of her door waiting for her students to arrive. With that realization, this prompted Y/n to locate the redhead who seemed to be bound to Mrs. Howard’s hip during the day.
Instead of catching the older woman standing tall in her most intimidating stance like usual, there was a certain slouch to Melissa in the halls. Chalking it up to exhaustion and not having her best friend around Y/n didn’t think too hard about the change. But then there was the limping she caught her doing on her way to the bathroom. And then there was the point where she stopped to lean against the brick walls of the hall when returning from the break room. Her hands seemed to hover over her lower back as she hobbled down the nearly empty halls. Y/n had never really noticed how often she saw the redhead, but with all the changes in her behavior, she was grateful she did. Something was definitely off with Melissa Schemmenti. And knowing her, she was planning to suffer through the rest of the day in pain.
Y/n peaked her head around the threshold of Melissa’s classroom cautiously.  The redhead was sitting at her desk, leaned as far back as the chair would allow her. Her eyes were closed and her face was contorted in pain. She paused in fear briefly and contemplated turning back and heading to the break room with the rest of the teachers but she stilled her nerves and pushed ahead. Melissa was scary, but she was also in pain. Y/n cleared her throat quietly, rousing the older woman from her state. As Melissa’s eyes hardened, Y/n almost turned back again. She’d had a total of maybe 5 conversations with the older woman since she started and now she was standing in her classroom, uninvited. The women stared at each other silently, Melissa challenging Y/n to say something. Y/n praying this plan doesn’t backfire. Just as she was about to give up and look away, Y/n tossed a bag on Melissa’s desk.
“I’m not sure where the pain is, and I know you won’t tell me but here.”
Melissa grumbles and doesn’t reach for the bag. Y/n merely chuckles, and reaches into the bag to pull out an ice pack. When Melissa doesn’t take the pack from her hand Y/n sits the pack on her desk and pushes it toward her. “Let me know if you need anything else. I won’t say anything to anyone else, but if the pain gets any worse please come find me.”
Melissa eyed her suspiciously, attempting to read her intentions but she found nothing but genuine concern. Before she could say anything, Y/n stopped her with a gentle smile. “It’s okay to ask for help and I know that’s easier said than done but it’s still true.”
Melissa’s eyes softened a bit at the younger woman’s words. She gave a barely visible nod of gratitude and ducked her head toward her desk. Y/n, feeling satisfied with the conversation, headed for the door and her own classroom. Melissa watched her go quietly and couldn’t help seeing the younger woman with new eyes.

The next day went as any day would. Except it didn’t. Y/n pulled into the school as she normally did. Trapezing from the parking lot and into her classroom. The only difference in her routine was the plastic bag hanging from her door knob. She grabbed the bag and examined it curiously before unlocking her door and heading inside the classroom. She settled behind her desk and shook the bag hoping to figure out what it could be. With no rattle, she finally opened the bag to reveal a Tupperware container of what looked to be the most delicious pastry to ever exist. The worn red container screamed Melissa and if the scrawled instructions for return were any sign to go by, this was some sort of thank you.

“Good Morning beautiful educators! Are we ready to change some lives?” Janine called, bounding into the teacher’s lounge. All eyes rolled and a collective sigh fell over the room. Despite the less than enthusiastic response, Janine’s smile remained in place as she shoved her lunch in the refrigerator and sat next to Jacob.
“What’s got you so chipper this morning?” Melissa spoke, eyeing the younger woman over the cat-eye reading glasses she had perched on her nose.
“I just woke up well-rested. With the new schedule I’ve created for myself I’ve had loads more time to get things done. I’m worrying less and feeling my best.” Janine proudly spoke, causing the older women in the room to observe her thoughtfully.
“That’s great Janine. You have seemed much more confident and that’s great to see.” Barbara smiled.
“Good for you Kid. That’s often the hardest part of teaching in a school like this. It’s hard to take time for yourself.” Melissa smiles over her reading glasses, leveling the younger woman with a congratulatory nod. Janine beamed at the camera over the older woman's shoulder and turned to Jacob to listen to his spiel for the morning. As everyone went back to their own morning routines, Y/n slumped into the room heading straight for the coffee machine. The cameras followed her as she pulled a mug from her bag and filled it to the brim with the bitter liquid gold. As soon as she added the sugar and creamer she needed she gazed at her watch gauging how much time she had before school officially started. With twenty minutes to spare she trudged over to the couch and sighed as she slouched into the chair pulling out some homework she wasn’t able to finish before bed. With the young woman’s attention focused on her work and coffee, she missed the green eyes that seemed to track her as closely as the camera did. Melissa watched as the fifth grade teacher busied herself with stacks of paper and a book. It didn’t look to be the work of her students, so Melissa’s curiosity peaked. She watched as the younger woman wedged a highlighter between her teeth and flipped through pages of tiny text. Her eyes moved across the screen frantically as if trying to memorize as much of the information as possible in the next 20 minutes. She didn’t realize how long she’d been watching until she felt Barb bump her shoulder subtly. Melissa’s eyes landed on Barbara and was instantly met with a soft smirk lining her friend’s lips.
“Don’t look at me like that.” Melissa grumbled under her breath, peeking back over to the couch to see if the younger woman had relaxed a bit but she seemed to only have tensed more.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Barbara smirked allowing her eyes to fall to the younger woman as well. “It seems someone hasn’t mastered the ‘taking care of yourself’ part of all of this.”
“What’s she working on anyway? It doesn’t look like anything the kids would be working on. I know she’s upstairs but they’d hardly be reading anything that long.” Melissa asked, finally turning back to Barb.
“I’m not sure, but you know she’s still in school so that could definitely be some homework of her own.” Barb shrugged.
“She’s still in school? What do you mean?” Melissa asked.
“She’s getting her masters. Which you’d know if you weren’t always being so standoffish. She does all her classes and coursework after we get off.”
“I am not standoffish,” Melissa huffed indignantly, “I just don’t like new people.”
“Mmhm, I don’t think that’s the case with one though.” Barbara grinned as she watched the red-head’s cheeks heat almost instantly at being called out.
“Oh shut up.” Melissa grumbled as the bell rang for the school day to finally start. She rose from her seat pointedly ignoring Barbara’s chuckle behind her as they made their way to their classrooms.
-
“Alright, who has an answer they’d like to share?” Y/n asked from her place in the front of the classroom. Lunch was still about 10 minutes away but she wanted to at least finish the rest of the worksheet her students had been working on before sending them off. She let her eyes roam over the classroom patiently but as she saw no hands raise she knew she’d need to entice them a bit. “I know it’s hard you guys, but if we finish the last two problems I’ll let you head to lunch earlier.”
She waited to see if anyone would take the bait and it seemed to work when Mariah raised her hand from the middle of the room. “Alright Mariah, what ya got for me?”
“4 over 12.” She spoke timidly.
“Uh Huh, and what’s 4 over 12 simplified?” Y/n prompted with a smile. Mariah seemed to be working through it but seemed a bit overwhelmed so Y/n opened it up to the rest of the class. “Anyone? What number can we divide both 4 and 12 by?”
“2.” Jamal called from the back row.
“Yep, but is there a bigger number we could also use?” Y/n asked with a smile glad the students seemed to be getting closer and closer to the right answer.
“Oh! I know.” Jasmine’s hand shot up from the front.
“Alright Jasmine, what number are you thinking?”
“4.”
“Excellent! That’s exactly right. And if we divide them by 4, 4 over 12 becomes?”
“1 over 3!” Everyone answered.
“Very good everyone. Let’s do the last one together and then we can head off.” Y/n smiled, heading to the white board and grabbing a marker.
Melissa really isn’t sure how she found herself in the fifth grade hall. She’d dropped her kids to recess and somehow she’d found herself peeking through the glass window in the door of Y/n’s classroom. She watched as she patiently guided the students through the fractions. She could tell the students really appreciated the atmosphere she’d created in the classroom. Even when someone wasn’t right, there was nothing but support flowing through the space and Melissa had no choice but to admire the work she’d done to capture that. Realizing if anyone saw her up there she’d have no explanation for her behavior, she quickly turned on her heels to head back toward her classroom with the hopes of not being caught. In her descent of the stairs, she missed the camera man down the hall collecting footage.
-
Melissa hurried into the teacher’s lounge hoping to grab a snack before she needed to pick her students up from their art class. She pushed forcefully on the door and headed for the vending machine, letting the door swing behind her with little care. As the door clanged against the doorframe she heard the startled gasp within the room. She turned quickly with her fist up and ready to attack whoever was in the room. She only relaxed when she saw Y/n sat on the couch with her hand over her chest and wide eyes. There was a book in her lap and highlighter poking out of her hair. Melissa figured she was doing homework again but as she looked closer, she could see the grooved pattern of the couch fabric on the younger woman’s cheek.
“Oh Melissa,” The younger woman sighed as she leaned back into the couch as she started to calm down.
“Sorry Hon. Did I wake ya?” Melissa said, coming to lean on the back of the chair that was closest to the couch.
“It's probably for the best. That was a complete accident.” Y/n shook her head a bit and pushed her hands down her face in an effort to liven up a bit.
“Must not be too interesting, if it’s putting you to sleep.” Melissa commented, nodding her head toward the book still in Y/n’s lap.
“Unfortunately it is not. It doesn’t exactly help that I’m already sleep deprived. A recipe for a great nap.” Y/n chuckled lightly before turning her eyes to her watch. “Looks like it’s time for me to pick my kids up.” As Y/n gathered her things, Melissa watched and hummed in agreement. Once Y/n was done and her eyes met Melissa’s the older woman could see the exhaustion setting back in place. “See you around Melissa.”
Y/n moved to walk past Melissa to the door, but Melissa hand wrapped around her forearm keeping her in front of her. “Hey, make sure you get some rest hon. We can’t have you collapsing on us like Janine.” Melissa squeezed her arm in emphasis and released her arm when she saw the younger woman nod in understanding.
-
From then Melissa found herself checking in with Y/n more often. She’d shed her ‘standoffish’ behavior and had become one of the teachers Y/n talked to the most. She never spent a lot of time with anyone on the elementary level teaching staff besides Barb, but now she seemed to be running into Melissa more and more. She’d be in the teacher lounge poured over a textbook or a stack of spelling tests and Melissa would appear with a hot mug of coffee. She’d gradually started bringing the younger woman lunch everyday of the week. It had started on a day about two weeks after Y/n had been caught napping on the couch. The fifth grade teacher had waltzed into the room carrying her laptop and textbook and that seemed to be it. It only took Melissa about 5 seconds of seeing her work on homework before she cleared her throat with a raised eyebrow. She, Y/n, and Barb were the only ones in the lounge so far so Y/n was quick to turn her attention to the older women’s table.
“Oh hi.” Y/n said, meeting Melissa’s eyes. Assuming the redhead was upset she hadn’t greeted them when she arrived, she looked back at her work.
“Hello but that’s not what I wanted. Where is your lunch?” Melissa asked, eyeing the younger woman intently.
“Oh I forgot it. I’m just gonna grab a snack after work to tide me over through class tonight.” Y/n shrugged, lifting the textbook from her lap.
“You mean after school?” Barb cut in looking at the younger woman skeptically.
“Mmhmm. No need to worry, I’ve done it loads of times before. I forget my lunch a lot more than I care to admit.”
“Oh sweetheart, well that’s not healthy.” Barb said, shaking her head disapprovingly.
“I know, I know. I try not to but I think I’ve done it so often that I hardly notice anyway.”
“Well that’s not happening anymore, get over here.” Melissa said, pulling out the chair next to her. Y/n looked at the older woman in confusion, not fully understanding what was happening. She didn’t move but watched as the older woman pulled a fork from one of the drawers and wedged it into the tupperware dish she’d been eating. When her eyes landed on Y/n’s face she looked at her expectantly. When the older woman didn’t say anything, Y/n grabbed her books and moved over to the older women’s table and sat in the seat obediently. With Y/n situated, Melissa slid the food in front of her and patted Y/n’s back, “Now eat.”
Y/n went to protest but before she could even speak there was a fork-full of pasta in her mouth. Her eyes widened in shock initially but melted shut when the food hit her taste buds. “Oh this is so good.” At the praise Melissa smirked and went back to scrolling on her phone as Barbara laughed with a smile. From then on Melissa made it a point to pack a bit more food for lunch. And if Barbara asked about it she simply shrugged citing her large portion sized cooking as the reason. As Y/n and Melissa became closer, it seemed easier for the younger woman to take care of herself. With someone checking on her as often as Melissa had taken to, it became second nature.
One day after a particularly demanding week of homework and tests, Melissa found Y/n sprawled out on the teachers lounge’s couch once again. It was a very similar scene to the first time but unlike last time, when the door closed Y/n didn’t start awake. If anything, she burrowed further into the couch and threw her arm over her eyes. Melissa paused briefly watching the younger woman sleep and sighed. She only looked at Y/n for a few more seconds before making her mind up. She sat her things at her table and pulled her jacket off of her arms. She walked over draping it across the younger teacher and then made her way to her table. She positioned her chair toward the door and watched the door. It wasn’t long before the door swung open revealing Janine ready to talk about God knows what, but as soon as her eyes met Melissa’s she closed her mouth. The older woman sent a menacing glare her way before placing her finger up to her lips. Janine, though confused, tip-toed further into the room and took a seat at one of the other tables in the room. By the time everyone was in the room, Melissa had quietly declared that the teacher’s lounge was experiencing a quiet lunch and with her reputation no one questioned her.
The bell rang signaling the end of lunch and that seemed to be the only thing to rouse Y/n from her sleep. By this point everyone had made their way to their own classrooms and the only two people remaining were Melissa and Y/n. The younger woman groaned as she opened one of her eyes to scan the room. She paused briefly as her senses were overwhelmed with a very familiar fragrance. She looked down seeing the familiar leather jacket draped over her shoulders and felt her cheeks heat at being caught asleep again. Before she could say anything Melissa spoke leaning against the back of the chair next to the couch.
“Good morning hon,” She spoke, leveling Y/n with a soft look of concern. “I thought we talked about you taking care of yourself?”
“We did, I’ve just been cranking out a lot of papers this week. Had an extra late night last night trying to finish one before the weekend.” Y/n explained placing her feet on the floor and facing the older woman.
“Well when is it due?” Melissa asked moving to sit on the arm of the chair.
“Not until Sunday night, but I use my weekends to plan for the week here and catch up on grading.” Y/n explained.
“And when do you take time for yourself?” Melissa prompted.
“When I sleep it’s just me and my dreams. So I count those few hours every night as self-care.”
“Haha, very funny hon. You know that actually does not count right? You just slept through lunch. I think we need to think of some new ways to make sure you’re getting things done. Ways don’t include skipping meals and hours of sleep.”
“I slept through lunch? I slept through Janine’s latest life update and Jacob’s flailing? I really must be tired.” Y/n said, shaking her head before moving to rise from the couch. “And I gotta go get my kids for recess.”
“Don’t worry about that right now. I told Jacob to take them with his kids. And as much as I agree that you are extremely tired, the teacher’s lounge was having a silent lunch today. But I don’t think we can do that every day so we’re gonna have to figure something else out.”
“Jacob is taking my kids to recess?” Y/n asked, looking at the redhead in disbelief. Before Melissa could confirm, Y/n seemed to pick up on something else she said. “Wait, did you just say silent lunch?”
Melissa shook her head in amusement at the fifth grade teacher, “Yes to both. And before you ask how? Think about who you’re talking to.”
Y/n nodded with red cheeks realizing the redhead had done quite a bit for her during her slumber. “Thanks.” She finally mustered up the courage to say.
“You’re welcome, I’m glad to help. But I’d be even happier if you’d meet me halfway with this.”
Y/n nodded in understanding, “I’m sorry, I’ve always just been like this and I overestimate how much I can actually handle. I didn’t realize anyone would care so much.”
“Well I do. Listen, how about we find sometime to get you set up with a healthier schedule? I’ll even  make you dinner and everything.” Melissa suggested hopefully. “I’d really like that. I have to be honest,  I didn’t take you for the mentor type of the group.” Y/n said with a shrug unconsciously pulling the older woman’s leather jacket closer to her chest.
“Oh I’m not. That’s definitely more of a Barb thing, but I have my moments. And my reasons.” Melissa smiled softly at Y/n.
“Well I appreciate it and I won’t take your help for granted.”
“Good girl. Now come on, recess is almost over.”
Y/n’s cheeks heated at the older woman’s words before she nodded and stood to walk out of the door with the woman. Melissa collected her things from the table and grabbed a tupperware container from the fridge and met Y/n at the door. She pushed the food into her hands as she’d been doing for the last couple of weeks and moved to head out of the door. Just as they were about to cross the threshold of the breakroom she extended the jacket toward the woman. “Oh, probably need this back. Thanks.”
“No problem hon, don’t leave before seeing me. We can find a night sometime soon. Alright?”
“Yes ma’am.” Y/n saluted before both women parted ways.
-
“Knock knock. You ready to go?” Barb asked as she leaned against the door frame of Melissa’s classroom.
“You can go on without me, I’m waiting on Y/n. We’ve gotta figure out when she’s free.” Melissa said casually turning in her desk chair to face her best friend.
“You finally ask her out?” Barb asked with a smirk causing Melissa’s cheeks to heat.
“What? No? What are you talking about? I’m just gonna help her figure out how to take care of herself a bit better.” Melissa sputtered.
“Right because you’re so good at that yourself.” Barb rolled her eyes.
“Hey! I’m pretty good. And you do the same thing with Janine.” Melissa defended.
“Yes, but I don’t want to take Janine to bed. We are not the same Melissa.”
“Oh would you get out of here before she hears you!”
“You didn’t deny it!” Barbara grinned.
“Bye Barb.” Melissa groaned. Barbara smiled in victory before sending a wink over to her friend and leaving the building.

“You know, if you keep coming up with me, my neighbors are gonna think you’re moving in.” Y/n called over her shoulder as she worked her apartment key into the lock. Melissa was pressed as closely to her body as she could possibly be and she wasn’t making the task of unlocking the door any easier. The older woman hummed as her lips worked the side of Y/n’s neck, barely registering much of what she said.
“Not my fault I like being around you,” Melissa’s hands smoothed down the younger woman’s arms and hovered over her struggling hands. “But, if you don’t unlock the door soon, your neighbors are gonna think a lot of other things about me. And you.”
A shiver rolled down Y/n’s back and she was finally able to open the door. Melissa pushed her through the threshold and backed her further into the apartment. The women’s lips met in a familiar dance and Melissa was leading as usual. As soon as they reached Y/n’s bedroom, Melissa had her back pressed against the door.
“You know it is Friday night,” Melissa started as she reached for the buttons lining the front of the younger woman’s shirt. Y/n watched carefully as Melissa plucked each button from its hole, hanging on to every word to leave the woman’s mouth. “I’d love to spend the weekend with my sweet girl, how does that sound?”
“That sounds wonderful to me.” Y/n answered dazedly as she allowed Melissa to peel the shirt from her shoulders.
“Good.” Melissa grinned before moving to the button of her jeans eagerly. She’d just successfully unzipped and unbuttoned the jeans when a cellphone ringing broke through the lust filled air. Both women froze listening to see whose phone was ringing and as Melissa drew away from Y/n to search for the phone the younger woman pouted.
“No, no, it’s mine and it’s probably just a telemarketer or something. You know, trying to steal my social security number.” Y/n pleaded as she pulled Melissa’s hands back to their previous place on her legs. It didn’t take much to convince Melissa especially when the phone stopped ringing and she was back to rolling the denim down her lovers legs.
Once she’d shed the younger woman off her clothes, she pulled her over to the bed ready to take her for the first time this weekend. She lay Y/n down gently eyes hungrily taking her bra-clad body in. She moved to line her chest with her fingers drawing a huff from the younger woman.
“Melissa,” She whined impatiently, already ready to beg for some form of satisfaction. Just as the smirk took over the older woman’s face, the ringing returned breaking through the air yet again.
“Hon, I think you should check that.” Melissa said moving to reach for the vibrating purse near the door.
“They’ll leave a voicemail if it’s important.” Y/n tried to reason locking her legs around Melissa’s waist. Melissa rested her hands on Y/n’s legs and shot her a pointed look before allowing the younger woman to draw her in closer.
“If it rings again, you’re getting it.” Melissa stated decisively against the younger woman’s neck as she kissed her way down her chest. Y/n hummed in acknowledgement allowing Melissa to paint her chest in love bites.
Just as she moved to remove the remaining barriers between their bodies, the phone rang. Y/n let out a whine as the weight of Melissa’s body left her body. “Whoever this is, is dead to me.” Y/n mumbled as Melissa fished her phone out of her purse and brought it over to her.
“It’s your mother.” Melissa stated before handing the phone over. With a sigh she moved to sit against the headboard and watched as Y/n answered the phone. As she listened to the one-sided conversation, she had a feeling their plans would not be going as planned.
-
“Alright I’ll see you then. Mmhm, just give me a holler when you get here and I’ll make sure I’m available. You know I have work, but we can get dinner Monday evening after school before your conference starts Tuesday.” Y/n said down the phone as her fingers danced across Melissa’s thigh. After the call continued, she’d changed into one of sets of pajamas Y/n had started keeping around for her. A book Y/n had started was in her hands and she’d pushed her reading glasses on in an effort not to listen in to the conversation.
“I’ll get us a reservation at that place you like, how many should I reserve for?” Y/n asked moving to snuggle into Melissa’s side, knowing a call from your mother was the ultimate mood killer.
“Three? I’m gonna see if Mel is free and we’ll make it four.” Y/n said casually missing the widening of Melissa’s eyes. “Yes, yes, I know you’ve been wanting to meet her. Well let’s just hope she’s free on such short notice, yeah uh huh. Right yes, I love you too. Give Carol my love, yes. See you Monday. Goodnight.”
The call ended and Y/n turned and plugged her phone up to charge. “What a mood killer.” Y/n mumbled with a chuckle curling back into Melissa’s side.
“Parents coming to visit?”
“Yeah! Mom and Carol are coming up for a women’s health conference. We’re doing dinner Monday and I figured if you’re free you could join us. No pressure or anything, they’ve just been on me about meeting you for a while. You know kill two birds with one stone?”
“Oh, Monday?” Melissa started.
“Yeah, I know it’s short notice. She wasn’t sure she was even going but they asked her to moderate one of the panels and so now she’s coming for sure. You don’t have to let me know now, but just let me know.”
“Alright, hon.”
“Great, I’m gonna get ready for bed and then you’ll have me for the rest of the weekend.” Y/n said softly kissing Melissa’s lips before heading to the bathroom to wind down. Leaving Melissa in the room to think about the impending meet and greet.
-
Monday came much sooner than Melissa would’ve liked. She ended up heading home Saturday morning claiming she had a guy coming round the house to fix something for her. She really wasn’t sure she could go through this meet and greet. She hadn’t had to meet a partner’s parents in decades and she’d never cared about the way they felt about her before. She’d been young then. She had been younger than Joe. She’d been the treasure in that relationship, everyone wondering how he’d pulled her. But this was different and her mind and body could feel it. No one said it but she often found herself wondering how she’d been lucky enough to warrant Y/n’s affection. What would stop her mother from asking the same thing? Despite the growing panic within the older woman by Sunday evening she’d agreed to go, knowing it’d make Y/n happy. And as much as she tried to calm herself down, by the time she was due for work she was was slipping into unknown territory.
She walked into the teacher’s lounge attempting to look as normal as she could. Knowing she and Y/n normally walked together there would already be a bit of attention on her but she made an effort to smile at Barb, have her coffee, and draw as little attention to herself as possible.
“How was your weekend?” Barb asked as she stirred her coffee.
“It was okay, had some work done on the house. Nothing too wild, how about you? Didn’t you say something about you and Ger spending the weekend with Taylor?”
“Oh yes, it was lovely. She came down to visit with us for a bit. Told us she’s seeing someone. It’s getting pretty serious and she plans to bring him down for her next visit.” Barbara answered. Melissa hummed quietly listening as Barbara spoke, unknowingly adding to Melissa’s internal panic. “She said she met him at work and they’ve been seeing each other for a few months. I know we agreed to meet him, but I’m not too sure how that’ll go. But we won’t know until we see him.”
Before Melissa could even fake a response the lounge door opened with Y/n and Ava chatting up a storm. “You have got to tell me how that place is, I’ve been trying to get a reservation over there for months.”
“Of course, perks of having my mom. She can get in wherever she likes. With her work in medicine she’s pretty well known in certain circles but that combined with her ice queen demeanor really seals the deal.”
“I knew being mean could get you what you wanted.” Ava sighed with a shrug eyeing the camera men with a glare. Y/n chuckled before shaking her head and making her way over to Melissa and Barbara’s table.
“Good morning ladies, hope your weekends were as good as the both of you look this morning.”
“Well someone’s in a rather chipper mood this morning.” Barbara snickered as she placed her hand under her chin.
“My mom is in town, she’s moderating a women’s health panel tomorrow so we’re doing dinner tonight.”
“Well that’s great sweetheart, how long has it been since you saw each other?”
“When I started here, she moved me up here and stayed with me for a week before she had to go back to work. So it’s been a long time!” Y/n gushed resting her hands on Melissa’s shoulders as she spoke. “Although I think she may be more excited about meeting this one than seeing me. You still good to join us tonight?”
“Of course, why wouldn’t I be?” Melissa asked sharply, her heart pounding.
“No reason, honey. I was just making sure.” Y/n spoke softly eyeing the older woman sat in front of her suspiciously. “Are you okay?”
She wasn’t sure what it was but she suddenly couldn’t breathe. She shrugged Y/n hands off her shoulders with a huff and pushed her chair from the table quickly, rising to her feet wildly. She needed to get out of the room and she needed out quick. The air was thickening and her heart’s pounding was all she could hear. “I’m fine,” she managed to squeeze out before rushing out of the room and down the hall leaving both Y/n and Barbara’s concerned gazes in her wake.
“What was that about?” Y/n asked helplessly as her eyes met Barbara’s.
“Sweetheart, I’m not sure. I’ve never seen her like this, do you want me to talk to her?” Barbara asked moving to stand and follow her best friend. Before either of them could move, the bell rang signaling the start of the school day.
“Uh, no I’ll check with her during lunch. It’s probably nothing right?” Y/n asked.
“I’m sure it’s just some nerves about tonight. You know it has been a while since she’s met the parents. I probably didn’t help talking about Taylor’s new beau and how skeptical I am about him. She’s probably just scared.”
Y/n nodded, taking in the older woman’s words. “Okay, I’ll talk to her.”
-
“Hi.” Y/n called from across the hall. She’d just dropped her students for lunch and was waiting outside of Melissa’s classroom. The older woman had been hiding for most of the morning and now she’d finally caught her alone.
“Hey,” Melissa answered quietly moving to lean against the wall next to Y/n.
“Can we talk?”
“Listen, I’ve been thinking maybe it’d be best of you have dinner without me tonight. You were talking about how long it’s been since you’ve seen your mom and I don’t want to take away from your time together.”
“Well that’s really sweet of you to offer, but I’ve got a feeling that’s not the only reason you don’t want to join us tonight. How about you tell me what’s really going on?”
Melissa sighed deeply, “I haven’t had to meet the parents in…quite a while. And I have to be honest, it’s never really matter in the past. But I have a feeling it does matter now.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, if your mom thinks I’m a cradle robbing predator I don’t see that boding well for us as a couple. She’s your mom and you seem close, when she hates me there’s no way you’ll choose me over her.” Melissa explained.
Y/n sighed resting her hands on Melissa’s cheeks before speaking, “First of all, she’s not going to hate you. The only way she’d hate you would be if you hurt me and I don’t think you plan on doing that any time soon, do you?” Melissa shook her head with a pout. “Thought so, plus I highly doubt she’s gonna say anything about your age.”
“How would she not, I’m probably older than her.”
“That doesn’t matter sweetheart. And if she did say something, I’m sure Carol would happily remind her of their age difference.”
“Wait what?” Melissa asked tilting her head in confusion.
“After my parents got divorced when I was younger, my mom started seeing her one of the Researchers at one of the hospitals she worked in. Carol just celebrated her 78th birthday. So I highly doubt she’s got any room to talk.”
“Oh.” Melissa answered a bit dumbfounded at the new information.
“Even if that wasn’t true, I’d choose you. No questions asked. Even if she hated you, I’d choose you. You’re my forever, no matter what anyone says. And I mean that.”
Melissa placed her hands over Y/n’s with a watery smile, “You know I love you right?”
“More than anything. And same goes for you. Now are we good, I’d seal it with a kiss if we weren’t in the middle of the hall.”
“We’re good. I’m feeling much better about this dinner now.”
“Good, that’s what I like to hear. Now come on, let’s at least try to get a snack to tide us over until our late dinner.”
“Yes ma’am.” Melissa smiled feeling much lighter as she allowed Y/n to pull her down the hallway toward the teacher’s lounge.

A Missed Connection
Melissa Schemmenti x Reader
Prompt: Two missed flights bring two women together over overpriced booze and underfunded schools
a/n: this is a lil short drabble that i'd be more than happy to expand if anyone was interested.
Tumblr media
Y/n gazed at the empty gate with a sigh. The flashing “flight closed” on the screen was like a constant taunt. A missed flight and now her entire vacation was gone. Gripping the straps of her bag she took a deep breath before gazing at her watch. 5:48pm and stuck in the city. A city she’d been in for the last academic year. She sent one last longing glance toward the gate and finally rolled her carry-on behind her as she walked away from the plane.
She pulled out her phone and opened up her travel app, hoping to find another flight to her destination. A tropical beach was calling her name and after the semester she’d had, she deserved it. Being a college professor definitely had its perks but with the late submissions and Advisor meetings, Y/n was ready to soak up some sun. She held out hope as she saddled up to an airport bar but as she scrolled her hope dwindled until nothing. She was not getting to her destination any time soon. Turning her phone over she rested her elbows on the sticky bar with a pout. So much for vacation.
She reached for one of the menus coned on the bar and browsed the drinks listed. Her finger worked down the list and prices with a grimace but settled on some sort of fruity cocktail. Just as she was about to place her order there was a huff a few seats down and a grumble to follow.
“Gimme a beer,” a husky voice called as a redhead hoisted herself onto the bar stool. She slammed her purse on the counter, neglecting the conveniently placed bag hooks under the bar and shoved her glasses into her hair. Y/n’s eyes were drawn to the older woman as the bartender slid the beer over to the woman. She gave a grateful nod and threw the drink back in frustration. Finally pulling her eyes away from the woman she placed her order and watched as the bartender made her drink. The tall glass was placed in front of her and she smiled in thanks before pulling the straw to her mouth. She mindlessly sipped until the redhead let out another sigh and slid her phone a little too far down the bar. It landed much farther to Y/n than it did her and as soon as she realized it, the older woman mumbled a quiet ‘shit’ before looking over at Y/n.
“Sorry, hon. I didn’t hit you did I?” She asked as she placed her beer down.
Y/n shook her head with a soft smile, “No, but you seem to be having just as bad a day as I am.” The redhead met her eyes with a shrug before moving to take the seat next to her and retrieve her phone.
“Missed my flight out of here and now I’m missing my one week of freedom before June.”
“Oh do I know that feeling, I just wrapped a semester and had a beach and Mahi Tai with my name on it. Looks like we’re both missing out.” Y/n said lifting her drink toward the redhead in a toast of sorts. They clinked their glasses together before sipping. “I’m y/n.”
“Melissa, you teach?”
“I’m a professor at UPenn. I just started over there in the Fall.”
“Wow, you seem a little young to be a college professor.”
“I guess I’m pretty young compared to my colleagues. What do you do?”
“I teach elementary school in the city. Second and Third grade.”
“At the same time?” Y/n asked sitting her glass down and turning toward Melissa.
“Unfortunately, it’s been a hard year so far. I’m hoping to get a better aide next year or a new teacher but there’s only so much the district is willing to give.”
“Oh I know that feeling all too well. I started out subbing in public schools on the side to make money and that was insane. I commend you for doing it full-time. And I’m even more sorry that you’re missing your vacation.”
“Well, it could be worse. Having a drink with a pretty woman isn’t the worst way to spend my evening.” Melissa shrugged eyeing the younger woman to gauge her reaction to the come-on.
“Well, I could definitely think of worse ways to spend my time. How about I buy you another one? A little alcohol is always a great start to a vacation, no matter what the location.”
“Can’t argue with that.”
