Reflection paper on Empowerment Technologies

"What really is the contribution of ICT in our everyday lives?" or "What is the importance of ICT in my chosen professional track?" Over the years, technology has been improving dynamically and it has many contribution to the world. Information and Communications Technology is a great help in a way that, it allows us to easily get information with just click of our fingers, it allows us to communicate easily. Through using ICT, we can do a lot of works which are not time consuming.

Nowadays, ICT cannot be separated with our daily needs. ICT has a great impact in our daily lives. For example, we can read our local newspaper using the online newspaper. Another example is we still can get connected with our relatives or colleagues even if we're in abroad by using the electronic mail, yahoo, messenger...etc. Educational technology and E-learning is taught in or out of the classroom since educational technology is used by learners and educators in homes, schools, businesses, and other settings. (PC dreams).

Using ICT is beneficial to our every day lives and into our society because for example, instead of going to the workplace to finish your work, you can do it at home and submit it by using the internet and in addition, it is much more convenient when doing it at home. Since we're discussing about 'convenience' here, we can also browse and shop online intead of riding a bus and going into stores that may be costly compared with shopping online. ICT is also a great help for people with disabilities to have 'assistive medias' for them to do the things that they are incapable of doing. We can also communicate to our love ones who are far away from us specially those who are working in other countries without the need of writing letters, sending it to the near post office and wait for days in order to get a reply. As a student, I appreciate the contribution of ICT in my school life because it helps me a lot in a way that, I don't need to read the whole book in order for me to find the meaning of a word, just one click on my phone and it's already there. It's helpful for students providing that we do not take it for granted or abuse it.

As a HUMSS student, ICT serves as our teaching tool because we are using PowerPoint presentation most of the time in our several subjects during discussion specially on Empowerment Technologies. According to research, PowerPoint presentation can be used during discussion in engaging ideas in an effective way. I also realized that it is not because we are HUMSS students and not STEM students, we'll be left behind when it comes to technologies. I may be using ICT everyday but I still don't know some basic information or basic functions of it so, for me, it is necessary to have a subject like Empowerment technologies to have or to learn futhermore knowledge about it.

We must learn how to appreciate Information and Communication Technolgies because it made significant development in our world. It helps us a lot in our society through different ways for our everyday lives. We must not abuse it and use it accordingly and effectively.

Summary of My Learning Style

My preferred learning style which is 'watching and thinking' falls under the philosophy category. It suggests that I'm into knowing the informations about a certain topic first rather than conducting an actual activity about it. I prefer lectures, analogies, systems and case studies just like what the description says. I'm used by a step by step manner of learning. By conducting this activity, I'm now aware about my strengths and weaknesses as a learner. This will help me a lot as a student so that I will use the correct method for learning a subject rather than sticking on with my preferred one. I'll do my best to incorporate the four learning styles as it is said that it's best by using all of it.
