How do you feel about Monica and Richard's relationship? Do you think he was her soulmate instead of Chandler?
I think they were a pretty great, adorable couple (Richard trying to find a neurosis of his own to make Monica feel better about her OCD lives rent-free in my head), had a lot of things in common, did their best to work through their relationship issues and the actors had fantastic chemistry. Richard was THE perfect guy for Monica in my eyes... until I saw her fall in love with, date, and marry Chandler, her actual soulmate.
Now, I know a lot of people are creeped out not just by their 21 year age gap, and, more importantly, by the fact that Richard knew her since she was a child because was best friend's with her father (they even say they're like brothers, and at least here in Brazil she'd have absolutely grown up calling him UNCLE Richard).
However:
1 - They're not real, so who cares?
2 - I'm a degenerate and I'm into it.
3 - They did spend years without having any contact (to the point that he doesn't even recognize her at first) and it's very clear that Richard only ever started feeling attracted to her when she was an adult - and not in a "He was waiting to get on her pants the very second she turned 18" kind of way, but rather as "She's literally 27-years-old, she's been a fully grown, adult woman for a LONG time."
And even though Friends, like any sitcom, is known for having the characters in very unrealistic situations for the sake comedy, drama or both (and that's a feature, not a bug) the way Richard and Monica's age difference was handled was pretty realistic.
Monica clearly likes that Richard is this suave, cool older man - but unlike with the rich guy she dates after him, it's obvious that she actually does like him for who he is beyond the superficial stuff, and isn't just giving this relationship a shot because she wants to get married and have kids, and needs a guy to achieve that. I felt soooooo sad for Richard when he was feeling like "one of the guys" then Joey and Chandler let slip that they like hanging out with him because their DADS were not as cool, and Monica was super sweet to him after.
The entire episode of her parents finding out about them on her dad's birthday was freaking amazing, mainly because the writers took full advantage of literally every opportunity for a good joke. Monica is asked if she'll tell them that night, and replies with "Yeah, for my father's birthday I decided to give him a stroke." Their mother asks if they thanked Richard for the ride, innocently just acting like a mom making sure her kids are being polite to their father's friend, and Ross just says "I'm sure Monica thanked him for the both of us." And, of course, everyone awkwardly singing happy birthday right after they had a falling out.
And that episode was also an exemple of Friends, a show that both fairly and unfairly described as very sexist, actually being pretty ahead of it's time when it comes to pointing out the full on misogyny that people often give themselves permission to engage on the very second a girl dates someone much older.
All of the guys are talking about Richard banging a younger woman (that they don't know is Monica) in a really gross way, with her own father even comparing it to the time he bought a cool, expensive car to deal with his mid-life crisis, and, much to both Richard and Ross's horror, suggesting they trade for a day. Sure, it's painting Richard as at least a bit of a loser for dating a younger woman after a long marriage that ended in divorce, but they're still expecting him to brag about it, seeing it as something cool and worth envying him for, and quite literally treating the "mystery younger woman" as an object instead of a person that genuinely cares about him, and that he cares for as well.
The women at the party aren't any better either, making wild assumptions about how Monica is probably just a stupid slut with nothing to offer, and that maybe she's even ugly and the only reason Richard is into her is because she is "Just young enough that everything is still pointing up." They literally know nothing about her beyond "She's younger than him, met him after he got divorced and started dating him" and are all still acting in such a spiteful way that, hearing one of them talk without any context, people could easily assume something like "Oh, she was with Richard first, and this story about him meeting this younger girl after the divorce is bullshit. He met while he was still married, had an affair, filled for divorce, and now the ex-wife hates this girl"
Even Monica's own mother gets all condescending the second she hears her daughter say the word RELATIONSHIP. It all makes for great television because it's a conflict that is not at all forced, makes you really root for the characters' romance to last, and, again, the writers took ALL the opportunities to make jokes about it.
But more importantly, when it was time to make their age gap be the real why they broke up, they didn't do it by turning Monica into an immature moron that was not good enough for him, or retconning Richard's characterization to make him all condescending, arrogant and assuming he knows better just because he's older - or worse, adding a cheap twist that he actually IS a creep that only liked her because she was an adventure/trophy, would cruelly toss her aside the second he got bored, and that he had secretly been screwing younger girls all the time behind his ex-wife's back. NOPE! None of that.
Instead the writers did the smart thing and acknowledged that both Monica and Richard wanted to get married and have kids... but Richard already did it. He got married, had kids, had grandkids, and then got divorced. If he marries Monica now, even if she turns out to be the love of his life and his absolute soulmate he is simply not gonna do all of that again just for her sake, nor should he, because he is in a different state of life and just wants someone to grow old with. It would not be fair of Monica if she tried to force him to have kids again - and it would not be fair of Richard if he expected her to just skip a whole stage of life that she had been super excited for, all because HE already got to have it, enjoy it, and reach the stage where HE was done with it.
And sure, during the drama when Chandler is pretending he will never be interested in marriage and kids, just to surprise Monica with a proposal, they kind of retcon that a bit by having Richard say he regrets that decision and WANTS to have children with her, but I accept that writing choice because:
1 - Literally no one else could fit that role as Chandler's rivals for that storyline without it feeling completely, and it was one of highlights of the last seasons of Friends, aka part of why I'll defend said seasons forever despite the drop in quality.
2 - Richard doesn't seem to have had a truly serious relationship with anyone after Monica because he's clearly not over her, so the pain of seeing her happy with someone else could easily make him start seeing the absolutely correct, but still very difficult choice he made in the past look like THE biggest mistake of his life. When he hear of him later he is not becoming a dad again, so I'll just choose to headcanon that once he found the right person he realized he dodged a bullet when Monica chose Chandler.
3 - Monica did, in fact, choose Chandler. Over Richard. The guy he had been all insecure about, for good reason because Monica would have clearly married him if it wasn't for the not having kids thing, and they had lingering feelings for each other for a looooong time. Her being given the perfect chance to go back to him, and not doing so, is the best way to show to the audience that no, she's not just settling for Chandler because she couldn't have Richard.
4 - Chandler and Richard's talk in which Richard agrees that he already had his chance and that he needs to step aside now because what he is doing isn't fair, Chandler calls him a good guy, and Richard then brags about AND says he hates that is adorable and very funny.
So there you have it. Richard is not Monica's soulmate, but in an AU in which she never met Chandler, or in which they remained purely platonic forever, Richard would be the ONLY acceptable endgame for her because That. Storyline. Was. So. Fucking. Good.

I’ve been seeing some controversy about Chandlers sexuality…
“If friends was made today Chandler would be bisexual”
That’s our controversy! We have our fans who say that Chandler is straight and is not and would never be bi or gay, and if we want representation to go find another show. The other side is people who say chandler is bisexual or gay, no questions and pick fights with the other side.
In my opinion both sides are wrong.
Chandler is straight
But if he were bisexual, it would be for Joey
But not in the way he loves women, no. He would love Joey as more than a friend, but not as a lover. They’d get married for tax reasons but then play up the old married couple idea, just like they did when they got the duck and chicken.
Chandler is straight
Chandler being bi is a fun head cannon and it’s all good if you believe it, but remember it was the 90s and being gay was used as a joke, and bisexuality was very very nuanced in the media and even not real to many people.
Chandler is a very fun, sassy, kind, handsome, at times flamboyant (briefly), kind, ladies man. He has the leanings of a bisexual cis man, but is undeniably straight and is just the “token gay” of the friend group without being gay.
Let the queers make up their head cannons
And let the straights keep their old show
Neither side is wrong or right
Both just need to calm the hell down and realize Chandler is an amazing character who deserves attention and fan works, not controversy over his sexuality.
Do what makes you happy, just don’t do it if it hurts anyone (that includes the actors in friends, the directors of friends, the fans of friends).
Be good people and let poor chandler be a straight man very comfortable in his own sexuality, comfortable enough to answer questions like “which guy would you kiss” confidently and without reserve.
Chandler is not gay, bisexual, or anything other than straight in the friends that took place in the 90s, but if there were a reboot, Chandler would probably be bisexual.
Chandler is just perfect being a not so macho man, funny, straight guy.
It’s good to see him have a successful love life with it all
Sad we didn’t get a whole lot of pansexual Phoebe though, she was pretty obvious. Not in a “I thinks she’s gay, so she’s gay” more in a “she had the vibes, and I would not be surprised if you told me she dated a girl” (And there was the hole thing with Ross and Monica’s cousin but yknow)
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk
(Chandler and Joey are Bert and Ernie btw. I take no arguments yet accept all questions on the matter)

1018 The Last One
I mean, of course we all cry at the keys. And the goodbyes. And the "this was your first home" which is a comment to Erica and Jack, but also about Monica and Phoebe and Rachel and Chandler and Joey and to a lesser extent Ross who did live there one summer they never speak about. But it's also about Jennifer and Lisa and Courteney and Matthew and Matt and David and this place being their home, where they grew up, where they made their family of six and some made other families as well. That will always be a huge point. But this moment is just as good. They all leave. They don't have to at all, they could go to Joey's, or across the road, or to the new house. They could make a pit stop before they go for coffee but no, they all move on at once, they all move as one cohesive unit. They're all leaving but Joey and Phoebe are helping with the pram, they're not even asked to do it, signalling that they're going to be in those kid's lives, that they care so deeply about these people and aren't going to lose touch just because they're leaving. Rachel and Monica hug, Ross puts his hand on Chandler's shoulder. It's such a goodbye, yes, on all levels, but it's such a hopeful ending. All six of them are moving on, no one is getting left behind, no one is left out, and they are all still physically connected in this shot. No one is going anywhere.

Oohh since you're restarting from the top <3 What's your take on this when they're talking about the dating language? Chandler: Or 'You're such a nice guy' means 'I'm gonna be dating leather-wearing alcoholics and complaining about them to you'.
I read somewhere that it could be about Monica complaining about Fun Bobby to Chandler?? Too bad the camera doesn't show Monica when he says that.. ^^ and he turns away from her when he says it. I like it haha
I have always firmly believed that to be the case. It's too specific to a conversation we know Monica will have, so likely has had, about Fun Bobby (his episode makes it clear his alcoholism is now overtly obvious and Monica confronts him about it, but that's not a habit you pick up in one night, it develops. So I've always thought it likely that signs were present earlier and, whether Monica used the world 'alcoholic' or Chandler is exaggerating here what was simply 'he drinks too much/drank all my cooking wine/went to the same bar again' to throw Monica off.
I'm with you, I would have loved a reaction shot, thank you.

would they still love u if u were a worm stardew expanded edition let’s go baeby
victor.
☆ he’s confused by this question and the look on his face has you worried
☆ it’s not that he wouldn’t love you, but how would he explain to his mother that he’s in love with a worm?
☆ he’d still do it best to make this relationship work
☆ checks out an alarming amount of books on worms from the library (gunther doesn’t usually judge but….he definitely notices)
☆ browses the internet for the highest quality terrariums, but decides to design his own for you so it would be extra special and extra comfortable for his favorite worm
☆ it’ll take him a while to construct the perfect terrarium(™) so he orders one for you in the meantime. don’t ask about the price, it's not important.
☆ he is absolutely hiding that receipt from his mom though
☆ reads up on his worm books to make sure you get the best diet and living conditions
sophia.
☆ do you even have to ask?
☆ of course she would
☆ even if she finds worms a little bit creepy she’d take care of you
☆ you would be living in a nice little terrarium with anything a worm could ask for. plenty of nutrient rich soil, moss, leaves, twigs, etc.
☆ she’d even give you some grapes from her harvest !
☆ would sit your terrarium in front of the tv with her to catch up on the newest episode of ‘pink princess crusaders’ after a long day
olivia.
☆ “i think you’ve had too much to drink, dear.”
☆ the real question is would victor be okay with having a worm for a step parent
☆ her chats with jodi and caroline become a bit different to say the least
☆ who is going to taste wine and listen to classical music with her now
☆ she attempts to give you a drop of wine as an experiment, but it’s not the same
☆ would lewis even honor a marriage between a woman and a worm? what would the governor think?
☆ maybe she’s had too much wine to drink tonight
☆ the verdict is yes but not as much, you’d be more like a beloved pet
claire.
☆ she’d be willing to give it a shot
☆ you’d live comfortably as a worm in her care. nothing too fancy or extravagant. just a simple worm’s life
☆ she would share some of her salad with you
☆ well this is awkward
☆ claire’s a pretty quiet woman and you’re a worm so you don’t do much talking
☆ you two mainly sit in silence and stare at each other
☆ she wonders how she ended up in this situation
☆ still better than working at joja
lance.
☆ he’s more curious about how you would have managed to become a worm in the first place
☆ was it a cruel curse laid upon you by a powerful sorcerer? one of camilla’s jokes? was it by your own free will?
☆ he’s genuinely stumped
☆ spends more time inquiring about your new worm form than answering the question at hand
☆ this man is a romantic at heart though so he immediately says yes
☆ he lets you travel with him on his patrol duties
☆ except to ginger island. he can’t risk one of the parrots snatching you off his shoulder. his heart almost breaks at the thought
☆ your love transcends all forms. you are a happy worm. congratulations !
rasmodius.
☆ did you get into his cauldron again?
☆ he says he would try to change you back into your previous form
☆ avoiding the question at its finest
☆ he may be a powerful being with magic on his side but love has a grudge against him
☆ first he gets a divorce, his second relationship was an affair with a married woman, and now his third partner has somehow become a worm????
☆ after some pestering he sighs and says yes. he would love you even if you were a worm.
☆ he doesn’t exactly know how it would play out. would he have to turn himself into a worm?
☆ how would morgan react if they found their magic teacher was now a worm living with his wormy significant other
☆ morgan would probably enjoy this outcome actually
isaac.
☆ definitely not.
☆ but at the same time...he wouldn’t want a bird to eat you..
☆ or yoba forbid some worm loving rando comes and takes you away…
☆ he wouldn’t splurge on a fancy living space for you, sorry (“what do worms even do besides squiggle around in dirt all day?”)
☆ but he would reluctantly search for soil, leaves, and foragables for you to squiggle in
☆ has accidentally almost fed you a poisonous berry on more than one occasion…
☆ shares some of his own food when he hasn’t foraged anything for you (“what do you mean worms can’t have glazed butterfish?!”)
☆ it’s times like these where he looks into the mirror and wonders if he’s actually going insane

Hello! I've recently taken the plunge and downloaded Ridgeside village for one of my save files. I'm enjoying it so far and I am eyeing some of the romanceable candidates 👀.
So I was wondering, you know the ask a while back about the farmer being oblivious to all of the bachelor and bachelorette's being in love with them? Could you do the same with the Ridgeside characters? And maybe expanded?
Eyyyyy glad you liked the Ridgeside Village mod, dear anon ☺️
I've added both SVE and RSV candidates as well. Sorry if the headcanon came out a bit stilted (wasn't sure what the best format was lol). Thanks for the ask and enjoy 💕
RSV bachelors/ettes with oblivious Farmer:
After the young Pelican Town candidates failed miserably to win the heart of Farmer, who must be the most oblivious person in the world, the bachelors and bachelorettes of Ridgeside Village decided that their time had finally come. They're the ones who can get the Farmer's attention, aren't they? Oh, but they didn't, because they didn't count on two things.
First, there were still competitors in Pelican Town - it was just that the other residents hadn't immediately joined the "hunt". Although Sophia and Victor weren't even sure what was even going on, they just wanted to spend more time with their friend Farmer. Victor, however, tried to give a couple compliments, but the gist of the content of his words apparently didn't get through to Farmer. It's a shame of course, but both Sophia and Victor just get over it and just switch to their own lives (and maybe even each other). Claire also threw a loving glance in the direction of the eternally energetic Farmer, but due to uncertainty and constant fatigue she decided that she had almost no chance (it's not true, but *sigh*). Olivia, of course, could show all these young amateurs how to properly compliment and hint at the object of their affection, but feels it's not her age to go after Farmer. She will respect Farmer's choice, and may even push Victor toward Farmer a little bit so that her son will be more confident.
Second, Ridgeside Village residents doesn't really realize how painfully oblivious Farmer is. All the advances and compliments the Farmer (unknowingly) dodges like a spy film protagonist dodges enemy bullets and lasers. And Jeric and Blair will be the first to question their own flirting abilities. Maybe they should have been more.... assertive?
Standing nearby the restaurant, Corine, Ysabelle and Paula greeted the Farmer more flirtatiously, asking to spend time with them just a little bit more. The girls decided to play fair: to whom the Farmer would pay more attention - the winner. Except that Farmer thanked "their good friends for the compliments" and ran off on their farming business, leaving girls in shock. Paula at least laughed at the comicality of the situation.
Faye and Irene thought that the way to the Farmer's heart was through their stomach, so when the girls found out what were the favourite dishes of the daredevil of the entire Stardew Valley, they immediately began the preparation. The Farmer thanked them not with dates, as the two girls had hoped, but with... fresh fruit from the greenhouse. Shit. Okay, well, at least the fruit is delicious. Bryle, passing by, decided to tease Faye and show her the "real master of pick-up", since he himself had had his eye on Farmer for a long time. A complete fiasco, as you might expect, causing Faye herself to start laughing at her friend's failure. The two will then argue again (but will become a couple in the future, but that's another story).
Anton... Doesn't even look in the Farmer's direction. He wants to try, wants to give them at least one good compliment, but... Why? So that Farmer will be disappointed in him like his ex-fiancée? No, Anton won't risk their friendship for that.
Apparently Yoba itself (or other magical forces) are protecting Farmer from flirting, because there's no way they couldn't pick up on Daia's hints. The girl is almost directly flirting, proposing to become something more, trying to kiss and, pardon my language, "get them into the nearest bush for some fun." "Into the bushes? Maybe we'll find a cute bunny there!" ....Bunny, huh.
But that's at least some effort, though, because Jio didn't come up with anything better at all than to express his flirtation in the form of... completely ignoring Farmer. Like, the more he ignores them, the more interested they'll be in him. Weird logic, and then the grumpy will have a face like "Wait, that's illegal" meme when Farmer ignores his ignore (and Kiwi is now constantly teasing him).
Ian, Kenneth, Phillip and Shiro decide not to act without haste, but to learn from the mistakes of other candidates who have failed on the love front. Slowly but surely, they try to spend more time with Farmer without making any drastic moves yet. And honestly, even if they too fail to endear themselves to Farmer, a caring and loyal friend would be enough for them. Sean also wanted to take leisurely steps at first, but he didn't have the patience and so he heads to the bench with the other losers. Better luck next time!
Zayne is a rather well-mannered young man, and he is not going to impose his company on anyone without their desire. If the Farmers themselves approach him, then he will try to make small talk and apply all his knowledge of flirting. It's a similar situation with June, but he may be a little more stubborn as he, unlike the others, has limited time and will be less likely to do so when he goes back for two whole seasons.
Flor, Alissa and Maddie are pretty shy in that regard, so they'll leave the flirting and sighing heavily when Farmer walks by. It's just that Farmer is a very close friend to them all, and to demand anything more from them is somehow wrong. If only they would notice... *Sigh*
For Kiarra, the best way is to be herself: no intrusive flirting, no those innuendos. Just have a nice time with a (so far) friend and not worry about anything. And then - just ask Farmer straight out. Do they want to date? Yay, Farmer and Kiarra have become a couple. They don't want to date? Yay, Farmer and Kiarra remain best friends. It's simple.
Magnus, who decided to introduce Lance to Mr. Aguar, became unwitting spectators of an oblivious Farmer being chased by a crowd of admirers. It's a funny situation, really. Heh, maybe Magnus would have joined them, but he decided to let fate take its course. If he's meant to be with Farmer in this dimension, then so be it, but if not, well, just suck it up and move on. Lance, on the other hand, believes he's in charge of his own destiny, and his sly smile suggests that he'll take matters into his own hands once the competition has died down. He has a couple of trump cards up his sleeve....
...............
And somewhere nearby, the much-admired Lenny is sitting on a bench, eating popcorn and watching the whole thing like a favourite comedy show. "Huh, and they said there'd be no fun in old age!".

Some random thoughts on modern reception to serial killers/horror movies (after seeing Scream 6 (2023):
TW: Mentions of death, violence, serial killers, and mild racism/discrimination.
TL; DR: The modern fascination and commercialization in media of serial killers, is interesting. I get having an interest, but the obsession it becomes for some people is alarming. I wonder what causes that. Why are so many people enthralled by these (usually) white, male criminals who we shouldn't care about yet can't seem to stop obsessing over?
The modern (like late 70s to now) world's interest with horror and true crime is interesting. As is humanizing, deep diving, and treating serial killers from real AND fictional stories as hot, misunderstood cinnamon rolls who need protection.
On one hand, I get the sort of dark fascination. Nothing wrong with an interest in the law, true crime, etc. Many people are fans of thrillers and horror films/tv. Also fine. Hobbies and interests don't define us 100%.
On the other hand, the line from hobby to obsession and insensitivity of some people on these topics borders on questionable. Ex: The "Makeup and Murder" series from Bailey Sarian on YouTube, the increase in true crime podcasts, deep dive series/films like Netflix's "Dahmer" and "My Friend Jeffrey". While these stories should be told, they're also often made at the chagrin of victims and their families or others involved in the real stories this media is based on. When these stories aren't told with respect (ex: Mispronouncing victims' names, doing poor research and the spreading misinformation) when do we say "enough is enough" and that we don't need 10 movies and mini series a hear about the same person/crime??
On horror movies, the same sentiment seems to apply. The narrative of these movies and shows tell us these killers are bad and irredeemable. Yet, the public seems to latch on to them. Ex: Billy and Stu of Scream, the killers from Scream 5 and 6, Tate of AHS, etc.
On Scream 6 (2023), the same happens. The franchise is being revamped in 2022-23 after Scream 4(2011) and the OG film being from the 90s. The newer films try to be more diverse (including more characters who are gay and/or POC) with their characters and stories as they subvert tropes but still give us a classic story. Yet STILL the fans focus most on the generic, traditional aspects of these films by obsessing over the (usually) white boy killers. I question if this is disregard for this inclusivity by focusing on the characters/types who traditionally perpetuate these acts, or if it's merely as love for the "bad boy/guy" and the villain.
