While we're all talking about both the WGA/SAG strikes and Barbenheimer, I hope everyone realises that the entire reason this exists is because Christopher Nolan stood up to Warner Bros against pushing their entire cinematic slate onto streaming in 2021, by taking his next film to another studio.

Then, as an act of petty revenge, they decided to deliberately move their single biggest movie of 2023 (and arguably WB's biggest non-Batman/Harry Potter movie in DECADES) directly onto his release date.

So no, the Barbie Marketing isn't "so good it helped another movie". The Barbie Marketing Machine was specifically designed to get back at someone who dared to stand up against WB executives.

It was a calculated move of malice by soulless corporate fuckeroonies.

the convo between edward and jacob in eclipse is a great adaptational addition. i love how edward is like “tbh if the circumstances weren’t what they are, i might’ve actually liked you and wanted to be friends” and jacob is like “if the circumstances weren’t what they are id still think you’re a huge loser :/“

I wish that Bella’s dreams were acknowledged more in twilight, but also the fact that sometimes information came to her through them and no one paused to think about what that means is so funny

I love this picture because it just sums up the entire Twilight story for me.

Bella, gazing adoringly at Edward, focused solely on him and his glorious face.

Edward, looking brooding and conflicted.

Carlisle, representing every other character except maybe Jacob?, just kinda there in the background.

Like that's it, that's the book/movie. I get it's a romance and of course they're the focus but it will be forever baffling to me that SM made up all these other compelling, interesting characters and just . . . kind of kept them in the back corner 95% of the time. Most romances don't have 40-50 named side characters, they keep the cast small, because the focus is on the love story.

"Twilight isn't really a vampire story, it's a paranormal romance," SURE, but there are vampire stories in it.

Carlisle's transformation story is a vampire story. The son of a pastor bitten during a vampire hunting raid gone wrong? Could be from an actual vampire universe.

Alistair's transformation is a vampire story, right down to a Lestat look-alike vampire named George who goes around pretending to be Astaroth, Prince of Hell to mess with humans.

Alice's whole backstory of the strange little girl who predicts the future, her father having her mother murdered, father and step-mother locking Alice in an asylum, a vampire turning her to save her from another vampire?

Victoria's sister coming back for her to save her from a life of poverty and abuse by turning her into a vampire, only for vampire royalty to ruin their happiness with their all female coven.

Huilen trying desperately to keep her pregnant-with-a-monster's-baby sister alive, only for said sister to die in childbirth. Then her half-vampire nephew bites Huilen, transforming her into a monster herself.

Just to name a few.

Sometimes I genuinely can't believe all of these stories exist in the same universe as Bella going to high school prom and Renesmee going hunting in a white ruffled Edwardian princess dress.

i dont know man, theres just something about the vampires in twilight being unable to cry that really unintentionally adds to the horror of monstrosity. like i know smeyer probably made them unable to cry bc oh life is so perfect as a vampire its symbolic bc why would you ever need to cry uwu

but crying, this utterly human and natural thing, something we all do, something so tied to life that we do it when we are born and that means we are alive... its something vampires, frozen in their dead state, cannot do...

i dont know man i just have a lot of feelings about the twilight vampires being physically incapable of shedding tears.
