Truly, Emile did care for the family she had gained several years ago. They cared for her, something she had never experienced before. Her human ‘parents’ had never been suited for raising a child and made their resentment clear, Emile had no siblings and very - if any - friends growing up. It made the influx of love difficult to process, especially from some of her more social relatives. 

It was why she had been retreating to her room, trying to escape the boisterous Cavan and his childe Antonia. Too loud, too excitable, too sunny (Well, Antonia was anyway.). It was exhausting for her; she preferred her own company, peace to enjoy  her books and music.

She had just got some new books delivered - Ivan kept trying to convince her to go to the book store, but really what was the point when this was so much more convenient? - and she was looking forward to beginning them… as much as she looked forward to anything nowadays. 

All of that went out the window when she stepped into somewhere that was decidedly NOT her room. Emile’s mouth opened, then closed, then opened again. 

At first she thought she might’ve been dreaming, but running a finger over the covered scars on her forearm, feeling the way her skin rose and fell, told her otherwise. This place was huge, unfamiliar. Some kind of… warehouse? Archive? Museum? She had no idea, but there was a lot of… stuff. 

And a man talking to her, a hand outstretched towards her. Emile stared at it, at him. She just wanted her books.

“The… what?”

Neal’s smile didn’t drop even with the woman’s clear puzzlement. It wasn’t the first and it certainly wouldn’t be the last that somebody showed such confusion in being brought into the Repository. Few knew of its existence before they ended up in this place, after all. Most visitors were completely unaware of it beforehand.

“The Repository,” he stated again. “Think of it as a living museum for all the worlds magical items to be stored safely so they don’t fall into the wrong hands and cause oh, I don’t know, world ending events.” He paused for a moment, putting his hands behind his back and rocking forward slightly onto his toes. “And I do mean alive. The building has a mind of its own and it controls everything in here. Nobody gets in without it bringing them here and they must meet certain criteria. I suppose it took a liking to you.”

A small typewriter that was placed in one corner of the desk began to clack to life, the ding announcing the page was done sounded in the space just a few moments later. Neal ripped the page out and examined it a moment. “Ah, the Repository would like me to give you the tour now. I suppose I’m taking a bit too long with introductions for its liking. For a building, it can be surprisingly sassy and demanding.” Neal shrugged. “That’s bosses for you, though, I suppose.”

He tossed the paper and made to move down one of the halls. “Care to come with me, miss...?” Another opportunity for a name to be given though he wouldn’t push if she let it drop again. The Repository knew it already though and would deposit a visitor’s badge for her later on Neal’s desk. Still, he preferred to give people an opening to tell him themselves.

It seemed more polite that way.

“I’m beginning to think it is.” Justine quips back. She’s frustrated but can’t deny a hint of amusement. They were making a bad habit of stepping on each other’s toes. 

She had decided against becoming a Watcher for a reason— Marcus was not his grandfather, she didn’t want to be tied up in all their red tape and restrictions without a man like Robert in charge. 

“You know that’s not a promise you’re going to keep. Because the second I try to do things my way, you’re going to interfere.”

Now, truth is, with his vast resources he could actually have somebody monitored if he wished it but he wasn’t a creep and didn’t abuse the tools at his disposal like that. Fact of the matter was, Justine’s suspicions weren’t totally unfounded given the power Marcus held. They were only wrong because he wasn’t a terrible person.

Marcus throws his hands up in surrender. “I swear, on my grandfather’s grave, that I will not get in your way should killing the Jorōgumo be necessary. Because we both know you won’t kill it otherwise anyway.”

Justine might not be a Watcher, but she certainly wasn’t like the average Hunter either. Most killed without thinking of it, but Justine let those who were in fact innocent go. It’s what made the Watchers, and Marcus, feel warmer towards her than others in her line of work. Watchers didn’t typically like Hunters and Hunters didn’t exactly like them either.

It’s astounding really—they end up crossing paths so often that Justine would accuse him of stalking if she didn’t know him better. All the paranormal threats in the world and they somehow end up chasing the same thing. 

“Don’t you have anything better to do than get in my way, White?”

With how often he and Justine crossed paths, some might say it’s fate bringing them together time and again. Marcus is inclined to agree. But whether fate has ideas or is playing a practical joke he’s not quite certain yet. He knows he doesn’t hate Miss Justine Beauchamp but he’s not entirely sure where she stands. He hopes she doesn’t hate him, has given her no real reason too but she is a touch hostile.

“You make it sound like this was intentional,” Marcus says, humor lacing his voice. “I promise to stay out of your hair as much as possible. Is that acceptable?”

As a big thank you for your continuous love, I have decided to put up an Art Raffle! I love drawing mutual characters, canon or oc’s, so this is my absolute pleasure. There’s a few rules to follow, but nothing too major. Ready? :D 

• likes = entry • reblogs = entry (you may reblog as many times as you like but please don’t spam your mutuals jsbhd  ;; ) • must be following me (new followers welcome but do not unfollow if you don’t win, that’s just rude) • if winner does not respond within 48 hrs, I will choose someone else. • winner will be chosen at random by inserting names into Wheel of Names. i will post the image of the result as proof. • raffle ends june 16th at midnight EST. (so june 15th is your last chance to enter). on june 16th i will announce the winner.

What you will get: a “hips up” drawing of the character of your choice (doesn’t have to be from the winning blog as long as it’s your blog too), colored, with minimal background. Both canon and oc’s are welcome.  What I won’t draw: mecha. complicated armor. extreme gore (blood is ok) What I will draw: nsfw (nudity), people, anthropomorphic characters (but don’t expect it to be great I don’t usually draw animals jaksdhbf ) There will be ONE (1) winner so I don’t overwhelm myself. If this is successful, I might add more entries next time. c:
