Because men are the perpetrators of violence. Even if a women doesn’t name men at all when she talks about domestic violence/rape we all know who is doing it. So a man feels discomfort, and says “men suffer too” thereby removing the blame from men, and making it a nebulous blameless thing that we all experience equally. Men and the media often speak about male violence by likening it to storms or natural disasters, both inevitable and blameless, so lets scrutinize how the victims deal with it instead, and who let it do this much damage in the first place. Why didn’t they evacuate (why didn’t she leave) why didn’t they stay inside (why did she provoke him) why didn’t they issue a warning (why didn’t she get a protective order). I’m taking this analogy too far now but you get what I’m saying.

This one speaks to me. I had an “ldr” as a teenager and did sexual things on webcam with an older guy but it made me feel bad and confused. My next “ldr” pressured me for the same things, but I never wanted to do them, and I felt simultaneously good about refusing and confused why I felt guilty. He said he felt bad and inadequate since I wouldn’t. His argument was the same, you did it for him, why not for me? Because I had learned and grew up a bit. “I will never” sometimes means “never again”.

Remember, the statement “I will never” is false language for most men. It is a statement that slowly gives the boy control. They “will” do anything with the right person. Therefore, logically, they do not have the ability to set permanent boundaries in the first place.

Wow been a long time since that happened. Was just verbally abused by a deranged customer for about 20 minutes. We’re not supposed to hang up if they don’t scream or cuss so I listened while he bullied me. Real nasty stuff, sneering tone, how dare you who do you think you are you’re not listening stop typing and listen I’m not an idiot etc. just on and on. By the end I was shaking from adrenaline so I had to hang up. I was perfectly professional of course, trying to help him the entire time. I did manage to sneak in a joke at the end though when it was clear all he wanted was to bully someone. His complaint was he didn’t want us to call him, so I asked him if he would like a supervisor to call back tomorrow :) shut him up for a few seconds at least.
