i love gideon the ninth because i think readers will naturally take what a narrator says at face value, because that is what we are conditioned to do. but gideon says so many blatantly incorrect things confidently because she doesn’t know better, or is outright lying, and it makes for SUCH an interesting reading experience.

I have a lot of feelings about the rise of he would not fucking say that attitudes in fandom spaces and the paralysing effect it can have on creators. As a writer i think it’s important to just write what feels true to you and not what you think others will “approve” of. Like even as a reader i have enjoyed a variety of different characterisations that all work because the writer makes them work for a particular story. And a fic that’s written out of character to some will be in character to others. Writing fic is not your job you’re not being paid it’s your hobby please. Make them as close to canon as possible. Make them completely different. Who cares! Have fun! Have so much fun! There is an audience for every kind of fic and every kind of character interpretation i promise

Being a young adult is so strange. You enter a coffee shop. The 20 year old girl waiting behind you cried all night because she just came to a new city for university and she feels so alone. That 27 year old guy over there works a job he is overqualified for, he lives with his parents and wants to move out but doesn't know what to do about it. That one 24 year old dude already has a car, a house, and a job waiting for him once he graduates thanks to his dad's connections. The 26 year old barista couldn't complete his higher education because he has to work and take care of his family. The 28 year old girl sitting next to you has no friends to go out with so she is texting her mother. That couple (both 25 years old) are married and the girl is pregnant. The 29 year old writing something on her laptop has realized that she chose the wrong major so she is trying to start all over. We are not alone in this, but we are actually so alone. Do you feel me

I'm seeing things that I - wonder don't make it into ANY adaptations, and it's odd seeing that there's a consensus of what does and does not make it. This scene where Scrooge demands to see proof that his death moved someone and it cuts to the family who get to keep their house because his death has delayed his filing of foreclosure papers until they can make the delinquent payments is one I think should be making more rounds.

It's over right here, isn't it? The first time through this scene of Paul waking up from the Water of Life, I thought Chani's slap was more about fuck you for endangering yourself and scaring me over something I know you don't even believe in. And I think that's still part of it.

But thanks to you really implies Paul knows at least some of what had to have happened for him to come back. Maybe he doesn't know the part about his mother forcing her to do it, but he knows that whatever just happened is something Chani participated in and he knows she hates the prophecy and doesn't want any part of it.

She just experienced this horrifying violation of her autonomy that also forced her to break a deep cultural taboo against crying. And Paul knows at least some of what happened and he's okay with it, because it fits into his plans.

The whole foundation of their relationship is laid out in that scene where they kiss for the first time, and it's (1) we're equals, and (2) I am not Sihaya, tool of a prophecy I hate and don't believe in; I am Chani, a fedaykin of Sietch Tabr. And he just demolished all of that in one go. He is going to end up using all of them and the first person who gets used is her.

Y'all she is never forgiving his ass.

So what do we think my fellow Paul x Chani fans, this moment here:

Is this the first time Paul has told her he loves her, or do we think they've said 'I love you' before but off screen?

I mean that deep breathe she takes makes it clear his words made an impact on her and that does make me think from her reaction that this could be the first time she's hearing him say he loves her.

If it is the first 'I love you' though it just makes the whole situation even more tragic.
