We Got This! Misinformation Education Creation Activity
In my last blog post, I will explain a concept related to misinformation to a specific audience. Certainly! Here you go:
It's crucial that we, as members of Generation Z whom are in high school and college, can educate ourselves and others on the dangers of misinformation on TikTok. By doing so, we can empower ourselves to use the platform safely and responsibly and protect ourselves from harm.
As I mentioned in a prior paragraph in my blog post, when we teach young people how to recognize misinformation and tell the difference between fact and opinion, it feels like a game of cat and mouse. There is no need for despair because we have gotten to the root of the problem: excessive social media exposure with little or no regulation because of how fast Ticktok has grown:
Tumblr media
when it comes to learning how quickly misinformation can spread worldwide and how fast it can find its way into people's minds, it is crucial to comprehend how quickly misinformation spreads.
Tumblr media
In today's world, distinguishing between trustworthy and unreliable sources of information is vital. We can achieve this by promoting media literacy, enabling access to reliable sources, and teaching critical thinking skills. Let's become well-informed individuals who make sound decisions based on reliable information.
The key to avoiding misinformation is to search for it and verify it from reputable sources. It is also essential to think critically and question information online. Additionally, it is vital to be aware of sources' potential biases and be skeptical of claims and how you can stop it.
Tumblr media
As a result of my research, I have come across some links that can help young people understand and navigate the world of misinformation. These resources will help young people make more informed decisions and become more media literate due to using them.
Here are some tips from the Washington Post for older kids who are coming of age. It was interesting to read the following quote in this article: "There's a flood of real, misleading, and fake breaking news and information online. Proceed with caution." This quote reminds me so much of any social media platform, including TikTok.
Tumblr media
According to this article The TikTok algorithm is designed for doomscrolling," Volland says. "Being so overwhelmed by information volume makes distinguishing high- from low-quality content difficult. It can make us feel more anxious, and we should be cognizant of that for young people who spend so much time on the platform." As a result, it is critical to help young people develop the necessary thinking skills and understand how to identify false information.
Tumblr media
It is scary that anyone with an internet connection can watch breaking news unfold in real-time, or at least some version. It's not uncommon for posts on social media to fly up faster than fact-checkers and moderators can keep up with, and they're often a mix of real and fake, out-of-context and propaganda. Current events are difficult to understand, which makes people need help to make informed decisions. Both social media sites and parents are responsible for moderating content to help kids from spreading false information, and Tictok is no different.
Tumblr media
Volland finds it challenging to fight misinformation on TikTok due to its mysterious nature. However, in its current state, although it is a good platform for young users, it is a concern to them as it stands. Children's limited ability to sort accurate information from unwanted information impacts their mental health both positively and negatively. Nonetheless, at least they are doing something to let people know what is happening with #FactCheckYourFeed to support media literacy by putting up warning signs to let people know what's happening.
Tumblr media
As a final point, we need to create an environment that allows people to feel comfortable discussing and debating different issues of view safely and comfortably. Teens are vulnerable to misinformation, which can lead to negative consequences such as spreading false information, eroding trust in institutions, and even causing physical harm. Protecting vulnerable populations and ensuring access to reliable information is very crucial. I hope you learned something new today and checked out the links above to help educate yourself and your peers.

Blog post: Community Responses to Misinformation
One of the best ways to determine whether a news story is accurate is to consider the source. Below are Trust Project Indicators that will help you decide whether you should trust your news, and make sure you are aware before you share it. I am choosing the Scottssdale Independent website by the article of  Scottsdale nonprofit hosts speakers addressing misinformation and Fresh Effort To Undo Arizona Elections Launches Signature Drive for the Arizona Daily Independent article which will be linked and have a workcited It will    also have a screen from my tumblur account  to prove that is   not a preview. since the link doesn’t  seem to be working.
Arizona Daily Independent
As a society, we rely on journalists to provide accurate information about what has happened. As I mentioned in the first paragraph of the article, this is a local issue. There has been a push by a group titled "Make Election Fair PAC" to collect nearly 400,000 voter signatures to be placed on the ballot in 2024, a proposal that would abolish Arizona's primary elections. There is a local issue here, as this would result in a lot of confusion and the disenfranchisement of voters. As this article involves a Staff Reporter who works for the Daily Independent, sharing this article publicly might be considered a biased viewpoint, as there is likely a conflict of interest between looking good and telling the truth.
Considering the fact that it was also an anonymous staff reporter who worked on this article, it might seem like a red flag, but it turns out to be legitimate, despite the fact that the reporting was highly suspect.
Although there are warning signs in the article, the article knows what it is talking about and how this may affect Arizona's primary election despite the warning signs. Consequently, providing a more precise account of the events is possible.
It seems off-putting to me that Diverse Voices is unclear who will be paying for this multi-million dollar campaign and that they will eventually have to file a campaign finance report. Despite the fact that Make Elections Fair PAC has until July 3rd, 2024, to submit 383,923 valid signatures from registered Arizona voters, this article contains actionable feedback. Petitions will soon be available for signing at local libraries and other locations nationwide. Your opinion matters! Sign the petitions at a location near you and help make a difference. Your signature could be the one that makes the change we need.
Scottsdale Independent
Yes, the two journalists are both experts: Cailin O'Connor and James Owen Weatherall of the University of California Irvine will discuss their latest book, "The Misinformation Age: How False Beliefs Spread," online and in-person at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism on the Downtown Campus of Arizona State University.
We rely on journalists to give us accurate information about what happened. The University of California Irvine's top ranking in Best Colleges 2024 is National Universities, at #33. I think the University of California Irvine has an excellent reputation for reporting on an area they usually focus on. Their book is the foundation for developing our opinions with confidence. By understanding the underlying purpose of a written work, we can expose any biases lurking within. To make well-informed decisions, relying on factual information rather than hidden motives or preferences is crucial. While biases can exist in any information, The Integrity Project strives to present information on this topic neutrally.
As I mentioned, the University of California, Irvine, has an excellent reputation for reliable and accurate references. We can verify the legitimacy of their sources by employing the lateral reading technique, which involves cross-checking information from other websites and using the shift method. This method entails stopping and investigating the source, seeking better coverage, and tracing claims, quotes, and media back to their original context.
Yes, it is local, as mentioned in the paragraph of the article "The Integrity Project, a Scottsdale-based nonprofit dedicated to media literacy and conversations surrounding misinformation." The Integrity Project aims to provide actionable feedback and amplify diverse voices. It allows readers to participate in a Zoom event on October 5th, both in person and virtually. The event is open to all ASU students or anyone with an access code to the Zoom link.
The two journalists use Best Practices because they care about Trust Indicators. Their goal is to ensure the accuracy and credibility of Scottsdale news by clearly defining and enforcing our policies and standards of what we expect to see in journalism.

As journalists, one of our crucial responsibilities is to combat misinformation. We strive to present accurate and unbiased information while also fulfilling our ethical obligation to correct any errors in reporting as soon as possible. In a world where misinformation spreads like wildfire, we must face this daily challenge head-on to uphold the integrity of journalism. Let us work together to fight against the spread of false information and ensure that truth prevails.
Tumblr media
I am glad that you mentioed the mandela effect. I find the spelling debate of  "Berenstain Bears" vs "Berenstein Bears" instersting. Considering Stan Berenstain and Jan Berenstain wrote the book, the spelling of their surname is correct. The idea that there was an epidemic of misinformation on such a large scale lurking in the dark corners of 4chan or Reddit or some other small isolated online forum in the dark ages before 2016 is hard to comprehend.
Tumblr media
To assess the quality of communication, one should use the CRAAP test, This method assesses information credibility, relevance, accuracy, authority, and purpose. The acronym CRAAP stands for Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy, and Purpose. These characteristics determine data reliability and ensure the growth of credible sources in the business market.

This interview was fascinating and full of enlight information, which I found very interesting. I want to check out the VERIFY channel on YouTube so I can check it out as soon as possible. As I have more time, I intend to explore more when I have more free time. Conspispary is on the right side, while Sophie, who hails from Mars, is on the left side of the picture.

Blog post: Assessing current platforms' attempts to curb misinformation
****As part of this week's lecture materials, I  looked at the influence that many digital platforms - and the companies that create and run them - can have on how people, communities, and societies are (mis)informed. It was interesting to see what they had to say. To combat misinformation most effectively, I have intentionally focused on TikTok and Twitter as the primary platforms for my blog post .
Tumblr media
**  I am surprswied that it only took TikTok five years to reach 1 billion users, which was an impressive growth rate compared to some of its competitors who took much longer to reach this milestone.
Tumblr media
First and foremost, TikTok centers around video content. The lecturer stated that social media platforms meet the criteria for social media, allowing people to form connections, create shared cultures, and express themselves. TikTok, a social media app, will enable you to share short videos. The status update is likely the most common on other social media sites. There are no limitations on the number of filters available, such as the famous green screen filter and the beauty mode. (as opposed to Snapchat and Instagram reels, which are not the same)
Tumblr media
*** Even though TikTok's algorithm is essentially a mystery, a video can be classified based on three categories of information: name, description, and hashtag. You can search for these topics in the search bubble.
Tumblr media
**** TikTok's global teams and ByteDance have remained tight-lipped about significant metrics despite the launch of TikTok For Business in mid-2020. Seeing that TikTok is likely to draw in more advertisers over the coming years, it wouldn't be surprising if the app made more information available about its user base and its users.
Tumblr media
*****At this point, most platforms have some policies and processes for curbing misinformation and online harm (these are not the same but are related, and you can discuss both). Since TikTok has become the world's most popular social network, Brands are remembered 40% more on TikTok than other platforms.
Tumblr media
*****That alone makes me question how effective and fast their policies and TikTok partners with the following organizations to assess misinformation: work, based on my research and observations, since the Chinese government owns it, there might be loopholes from existing policies. Unfortunately, China has no positive reputation worldwide because of its human rights violations, high censorship, authoritarian regime, and limited freedom of expression.
Tumblr media
***How to improve existing efforts is to learn why TikTok is Under Scrutiny and banned  in many countries, including the United States of America. In addition, Dance Bite should listen to its global audience.
Tumblr media
*****Despite being owned by the world's richest man, I like how Twitter operates, its safety, and how it works. I also like how more than 99.99% of tweet impressions are from healthy content or content that does not violate its rules. That's why they are expanding the application of this enforcement action from our Hateful Conduct policy. These guidelines pertain to the regulations governing aggressive conduct and inappropriate language, including their Abusive Behavior and Violent Speech policies.
Tumblr media
It is praiseworthy to have a dedicated section for the Safety mode. It shows the significance of safety and how much it is valued. I have to rewrite this description in active voice instead of passive voice because I appreciate this paragraph: Here's how it works:
Safety Mode is a feature that temporarily blocks accounts for seven days for using potentially harmful language — such as insults or hateful remarks — or sending repetitive and uninvited replies or mentions. Enabling the feature in Settings allows our systems to evaluate the likelihood of negative engagement by analyzing tweet content and author-replier relationships. We understand the importance of maintaining relationships; that's why our technology considers accounts you follow or frequently interact with and ensures they are not automatically blocked.
Tumblr media
Although no system of existing policies is flawed, Twitter's policies work based on previous research and observation. There have been limited indications of policy violations on Twitter, as the platform has effectively enforced its policies and incentivized individuals to stop being bad actors. My recommendations will move the needle on misinformation in my selected media of Twitter because of the no-tolerance Freedom of Speech that harms others.
Tumblr media
To further develop Twitter's existing policies, I propose that it use technology to detect and act upon potential policy violations so that Twitter can address them. As a result of such technology and strict enforcement, Ticktock and Twitter will be able to maintain a safe and secure environment for their users for the foreseeable future.

Blog post: Website or claim analysis
Tumblr media
For this blog post, I am producing an analysis meme of the CRAAP Test, walking someone through why people should verify something that they read and should be skeptical or unsure of everything they read and what this acronym means for identifying faulty information from mass data from the internet.
As stated in the meme above, especially with the rise of chatgpt and chatbots and unlimited knowledge on Google, there needs to be more certainty about the accuracy of the information we come across. It is crucial to ensure report accuracy on all of the information we come across. To ensure that one's data is accurate and reliable, we should look into it more thoroughly before taking it for granted as a fact. In today's technologically advanced world, there is a significant concern about misinformation spreading, and we need to be aware of it.
The CRAAP test will help us identify trustworthy information from misinformation in a sea of drowning information. It is imperative to note that for those who do not know, this acronym stands for Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy, and Purpose. To determine the credibility of the information I provided, I will use the CRAAP test. Afterward, I will be able to assess the validity of the claim objectively and in an informed manner for my relatives or friends if they need it. !!!!!!!
People should be mindful of their sources and use the CRAAP test to assess the credibility of the information they consume. !!!Using the CRAAP test, one can accurately and confidently evaluate the validity of a statement conveyed through a meme. When assessing the authenticity of an account, it is crucial to consider five key factors: Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy, and Purpose.
The CRAAP test is an effective tool to determine information sources. Evaluating sources of information using this test can help people identify unreliable sources. Applying the CRAAP test can help people sort through the vast amounts of information available online. It can also help them identify reliable and accurate sources. Accessing accurate and unbiased information is crucial for making informed decisions and avoiding misinformation or discriminatory content.
You can make an informed decision about a claim's credibility by carefully analyzing these five factors. Then, you can assess its overall credibility. In the following example, let us assume you want to evaluate some data's accuracy. As a result, several factors need to be considered, including the relevance of the information. What's more, whether the source is authentic, and how accurate the report is for that purpose.
This evaluation method verifies internet information, which can often be unreliable. I can determine if the information is reliable, up-to-date, and relevant by looking at a claim's Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy, and Purpose. I can also see if the source is reliable, the notification is accurate and has a clear purpose. This way, I can make informed decisions about future claims in my research. All in all, I'm using this method called Craap to evaluate this newly acquired information more efficiently and accurately.

Blog post: Evaluating misinformation education tools
As for me, misinformation is one of the most popular topics of study among researchers, educators, journalists, other media creators, governments, and community organizations. It is in the interest of many institutions to root out misinformation and to help people become more proficient at identifying it in the first place. It is in their vested interest as well.
Tumblr media
There is no doubt that all of these initiatives have a positive impact on society as a whole, but they are not all created equally, which makes me wonder why all of these efforts are so successful, despite the fact they all have a positive impact. As we move into the era of the digital age, evaluating the nature of misinformation research and reporting on misinformation is just as important as considering any other type of information you can find on the internet today.
Tumblr media
For my blog assignment, I must review two educational tools that teach about the origins and spread of misinformation. The primary aim is to equip people with a deep understanding of how misinformation is created and propagated and to empower them with practical strategies to combat its dissemination going forward. The News Literacy Project provides a link to a secondary website called RumorGuard. During the lesson, I found it particularly interesting to learn about misinformation.
Tumblr media
During your time at checkology.org, you can only access the lessons that are unlocked or available by going to your dashboard (which you will see in the link below this paragraph and image). It is recommended to look at previous addresses to access locked addresses. However, if you wish to complete them in any particular order, you are not required to do so.
Tumblr media
The first game I am evaluating is Bad News. While I was playing this game, I noticed that some of the examples from my previous assignments kept popping up in the game. All available Technique badges are great, and I enjoy using all of them (Impersonation, emotion, politics, conspiracy, discredit, and trolling). All of these are examples of tactics that influencers use to manipulate us in a way that can make us feel more vulnerable.
My favorite thing about this website is all the badges you can earn. All though I have one complaint switching to a different tab can lead to the loss of your score.
Tumblr media
I like the Breaking Harmony Square Game. I really like the hearts that represent your followers. Through all the different types of media that non-paid  influencers use just like in the other game.
I really this quote the Los Angeles Review of Books “ By slotting players into the role of chief disinformation officer, whose job it is to lie and manipulate public opinion to foment political rifts in Harmony Square, an otherwise peaceful town, “obsessed with democracy,” Kozyreva and her team attempt to educate players by devising a mischievously benign game with which to treat a larger and more sinister one: the rising tide of bizarre conspiracy fantasies.”  (Whither Harmony Square?: Conspiracy Games in Late Capitalism.”) This media game is great  for anyone 13 +.
This is my score from my second game:

Blog post: How has misinformation impacted you and people you know?
To ensure I'm fully prepared for next week's lesson, I've crafted a comprehensive blog post on COVID-19 and the aftermath of its misinformation. To effectively complete this task, it's necessary to discuss how misinformation affects myself, the people I know, and my community to identify how misinformation affects this situation. Having the ability to determine what the impact of false information will be on communication and decision-making is crucial in ensuring accurate communication.
Tumblr media
As a media student, I would like to thoroughly investigate how misinformation adversely affected the public's response to the pandemic. I want to investigate the effects of misinformation on our communities and how we can combat it.
Tumblr media
Even though there is no right or wrong answer to the question we are asking here, the answer is bound to be cliche. The most pressing concern at the moment is undoubtedly COVID-19. To effectively tackle the rampant spread of false information, it is imperative that we develop a more comprehensive understanding of this topic. You will find a link to an article published by the University of Melbourne that you can read. Throughout the article, the author focuses on a few of the most common beliefs about how fake news spreads and its reasons.
In addition, what motivates me and others I know to believe and spread misinformation is a desire to feel included in the conversation. Most people do not want to look stupid or be left out of discussions with others and are not competent at digesting. So, they think they will fit in if they spread the same false beliefs as others, often leading to a greater spread of misinformation, which is unfortunate. Unfortunately, misinformation tends to spread even more as a result of this.
Tumblr media
Many people have been adversely affected by this pandemic. Considering how this pandemic has negatively impacted these people's lives, it is imperative to consider the resulting implications. It is crucial to acknowledge the extensive repercussions of the virus on our community, encompassing its financial, communal, and mental impact.
Tumblr media
As a result of the religious beliefs of a family member who was also at high risk, their beliefs almost endangered my life. According to them, the Chinese government intentionally developed the virus as a biological weapon. I tried to explain that it was a natural virus, but they refused to believe it. It was challenging to convince them otherwise. They were the reason the lockdown lasted longer. I had to take extra precautions to protect myself from them.
Tumblr media
As a result, my relationship with them became strained as they refused to accept the truth, putting themselves and others, including me, at risk and forcing me to distance myself from them. It is understandable why they are so hesitant to accept the truth. With so much information available, it can be challenging to separate fact from fiction, especially concerning something as serious as a pandemic.
Tumblr media
Thanks for reading my blog post about my topic. I hope you enjoyed it.

Blog post: 24-Hour Media Diet: Spotting Misinformation: August 19th
This is my blog from Saturday  August 19th due Hurricane Hillary we decided to drive to  San Diego  earlier than expected so I worked on until noon then had to run through Grammerly. Then today8/22 it is now finalized and published to my Tumblur account@ misskasu.
6:30- 6:45 Wake up and play Wordle and Connection. I sent my hints to my grandmother. I also checked the weather for Sandegio I because I will be traveling there next week. https://world-weather.info/forecast/usa/san_diego/august-2023/
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6:55 Check Facebook and accidentally see the worst Disney scandals of 2023 and other accounts(`discord, and message me) The source may need to be more reliable as it presents a highly sensationalized celebrity news account due to its dramatic tone. These tapes alone give off red flags even if the stories were proven true by public records of them doing bad things. When people use superlatives in their title article or video, it is more likely to be mentioned in one's memes in one's feed. Polarizing topics that seem far-fetched are more likely to crop up because of this.
7:30 am: check three email accounts and delete spam, unsubscribe, and organize everything: personal, Maricopa school email, and ASU.
7:50 check out youtube 25 Mind-Blowing Mandela Effect Instances on youtube. Youtube itself isn't credible, but this content creator, Matthew Foote, is a credible source because of the tone. It claims that these facts we once collectively believed were accepted as truth. There was valid evidence that these were myths and how they mutated from the truth plus the actual truth, just like the telephone.
8:00 Check out Lindekin and handshake to see if I missed any opportunities. In order to increase my likelihood of achieving success, I approach job applications with a deliberate mindset. Haphazardly submitting applications without proper consideration may lead to lost opportunities. I have to be careful.
9:00 am- 10:30 Watch the Multifacial movie for MCO 460 race gender and media class, write my first response to this assignment, and then post my reply.
10:35-11:50 I started on Discussion Board #2: Reflecting on Learning Materials. I started my rough draft and ran it through Grammarly. After watching these two videos.
12-1 I am taking my lunch break while watching an episode of The Flash on Netflix. I ran my polished paper through word tune and published it.
2 pm I work part-time for Disney dreamers academy. I judge teenagers based on the questionnaire that they submit. I check up on work to see if I have anything to moderate. I am happy that I have so many tickets to judge.
3 pm I start listening to Alux, the episode 15 Financial Lessons You Need To Be Aware  Of. Their content is questionable, just like every other podcast, but overall it is credible. They do not promote false diet and wellness posts promoting secondary products or diets that are not based on sound evidence. I don't think these opinion pieces are masquerading as fake news because they have chartable.com backing them, but it is all; hearsay because there no negative reviews so that alone makes me suspicioius finished  the podcast and journaling  in the daily questions since this app is also on my phone.
4 pm check canvas to see if I missed any assignments and plan next week on google docs to make sure that I have enough time to finish all of the tasks so that I also start joining a couple of clubs at ASU. Also, check out all three emails and respond accordingly.
5:40 pm Check out the status of Hillary.
6- 8:30 pm
Enjoy three more episodes of The Flash from Netflix. I received a postcard from Finland and put it on their website. For those who don't know, I got a postcard from Postcrossing. You have a profile on this website where you can send suggestions about the type of postcards you want to receive and vice versa. You send a postcard to a random profile, and a random profile sends you one from their country. For example, I could get Anna from Germany, and Jocab from Ireland could get my profile.
Reflection:
Reflecting on the activity, I had a lot to consider. No more questionable content than I expected. In my role as a lifelong learner, I consider all media consumption carefully. Social media rarely gives me news. I stay in the middle, or slightly left  reading the Washington Post or New York Times most of the time.
Tumblr media
I listen to various podcasts, mostly business and growth-related, sometimes psychology.
Although they all use the same platform YouTube, they come from different sources. Alux, Robert Reich, Matthew Foote, and Adam ruin everything and don't share the same agenda or point of view that I know of.
No. When I was training to be a journalist, long ago in high school I was a part of a group that fact-checked everything and critiqued each other's work. By doing the craap test, I am still extremely selective about what I read and watch.

Module 6: Blog Assignment: Video games and women.
The stereotype about myself is that I wouldn't like video games since I am a girl. Consequently, the game must revolve around family life and domestic chores, whether Sims, a farm, or some other type of game. This stereotype is far from the truth, as it pertains to what happens in the real world. As with most games I play, I am most interested in more masculine games such as Subway Surfers, SXX Tricky, and Fruit Ninja.
Tumblr media
In the following article, an argument is presented that men have a valid reason to think women shouldn't play video games beyond just girly things like Barbie. Barbie Fashion Designer outsold Doom and Quake in 1996 and was the ninth best-selling PC game of that year. (Of course, women were also playing Doom and Quake back then, too!)  (half-gamers-women-)  This title implies that men dislike when women outcompete them in masculine activities.
Tumblr media
This article points out that this construction follows my Key Questions: It is necessary to include both a girl's and a boy's perspective since both pieces present both viewpoints. Much more so in the second article called: Girls Got Game? For instance, in this article were the results from both males and females for discussing video games and stereotypical attitudes in the classroom. This survey, which included students from various schools, received over 1400 responses from 6th-12th graders nationwide. girls-got-game-discussing-video-games-and-stereotypes It is necessary to point out that information and context are present. In the first article, teens discuss their feelings about female characters and video games.
Tumblr media

I mentioned before that the results varied depending on who you asked, although both women and men could be professional gamers. It is also worth noting that the results vary depending on who you ask and which article you look at. There is information/biases/etc. For example, the first article shows that men fear female gamers outcompeting them. " All of these silly theories were not only wrong but revealed that a lot of these dudes likely have little contact with actual women or, for that matter, reality itself." half-gamers-women According to this, male gamers may feel intimidated by female gamers because of their own insecurities. You would likely get mixed reviews if you asked people about female gamers and their experiences. A variety of factors may cause prejudice against female gamers.
Tumblr media
This second article presents the results of a survey of discussion questions administered to middle and high school students. Based on the survey results, it is possible to explain the differences between boys and girls in these two age groups. Virtual environments surround them, in this case. You may harm yourself and others if you negatively stereotype female gamers. We could benefit from this type of construction if we asked survey questions anonymously and then had a way of distinguishing between a woman's opinion and a man's opinion based on the data from this survey. As I mentioned earlier, this is the same as the second article. To compare the contrast, we could use a sample size of college students rather than high school kids to inquire about their feelings about stereotypes of women characters in modern-day video games.

Module 5: Blog Assignment Civic Imagination Project.
I am here to talk about my Civic Imagination Project from what the internet looked like in 2008 vs now, especially with the exponential growth of Khan Academy and Youtube.
Although this concept originated in 1992, I'm defining the digital civic imagination era when technology boomed in 2008. With technology repurposed, digital tools, formerly used for personal and social purposes, began strategically addressing social and political issues.
Tumblr media
When YouTube and Khan Academy were at the height of their popularity in the golden era of 2008, the technology and virtual spaces available to young people then were somewhat different from those they have today. With the help of these technologies and virtual spaces, they have mapped and articulated their civic imaginations. What we know as the internet today is the result of this bridge that has opened up a world of political and civic engagement.
Tumblr media
As a result of YouTube and Khan Academy, there have been a lot of advancements since 2008. There has been a lot of progress since digital tools, platforms, and virtual spaces became more accessible. It has been possible since 2008 for young people to create and share their ideas, experiences, opinions, and experiences via social media. As a result, they have also been able to engage in meaningful dialogue with others in a way they were never able to before, especially with the rise of smart phones. Moreover, these virtual spaces have also helped young people develop a sense of community as a result of creating a sense of belonging as the years progressed.
Tumblr media
Young people are accessing that bridge and making connections between personal and political uses of technology — that today's technologies are materials of imagination for all young people. But, speaking with young people about how they would use digital technology to address the problems that most concern them, it's clear that they are using YouTube now more than ever. Peter Broad, the director of global research and insights for the education company, mentioned, "When younger learners are looking for answers, they're going to the most straightforward, familiar force, and for them, that's YouTube." And the Google-owned platform is "full of explainers and tutorials" and content that is "short and easily digestible," he added. generation-z-learners-prefer-youtube-lessons-over-printed-books/ With the rise of the internet on the verge of becoming a human right with the proper knowledge, it can be helpful for learning new information.
Tumblr media
Due to the internet's existence since 1995 and Chrome's availability on Google since 2008, world-wide-web-timeline, this alternative does not require technological change. However, a systemic cultural shift is needed to maximize the internet's potential. We need to teach everyone about the dangers of false information and online research to prevent the spread of false information. We must also learn how to use the internet responsibly and respectfully, especially since the internet is now considered a human right.
Tumblr media
#######
There are elements of this alternative present in the current situation. Today, it is imperative that users' privacy and security be protected online and that false information be avoided. Current conditions and new expectations reflect the alternative elements of using videos to help us learn mathematics. Today's ideas on the internet are more valuable than before, but they were still powerful and had different purposes back then.
Tumblr media
However, Youtube monthly users are more vital than ever before. There are more monthly viewers on YouTube today than in 2008 (2 billion vs. 160 million). (Youtube users.) Same with Khan Academy, now the world's largest educational platform with over 130 million registered users, and the average monthly number of learners at Khan Academy is 17.7 million. .(sal-khans-academy) . As internet usage has increased exponentially in the last decade and a half, these websites have gained popularity, promising to make students' lives easier by enabling them to access relevant information and content.
Tumblr media
I hope you enjoyed the brief history of my Civic Imagination Project.

Book bans Module 4: Blog Assignment  Part 2
I will be examining the issue of book bans in my 500-word essay. I will discuss why books are banned, the impact of book bans on society, and the importance of protecting freedom of expression.
Tumblr media
Book bans restrict access to certain books and can negatively impact society. They can limit access to critical information and lead to censorship of opinions and ideas. They can also have a chilling effect on creativity and expression.
Tumblr media
Book bans can lead to a lack of diversity in perspectives and stifle debate and discussion. Ultimately, this can result in a less informed and less empowered society. Challenging book bans can also lead to a need for more knowledge and understanding about important issues.
Tumblr media
An absence of knowledge can negatively impact critical thinking and decision-making. Book bans can also reduce public access to ideas, opinions, and perspectives. As early as the 20th century, censorship and control of what people read led to book banning. The result is a shrinking culture, a decline in cultural literacy, and a need for intellectual growth. It is also possible to use censorship to suppress unpopular views and ideas. In addition, it can distort and control the information available to the public to manipulate public opinion.
Tumblr media
It was easier to advance the theory/issue with persuasion tactics and propaganda. A false sense of consensus can influence public decisions. By suppressing dissent and criticism, it is also possible to censor information that might harm those in power.
Tumblr media
I will discuss why The Hate You Give was banned. Racism, sexism, white supremacy, and police brutality are among the prohibited topics. I am surprised by this one fact alone. According to the data by PEN America, of the accounted-for titles on the banned books list, 40% have protagonists or characters who are BIPOC. As an example, censorship increases the marginalization of already vulnerable groups.
Tumblr media
The author, Thomas, said, "I knew that was a cop-out." She was right. "There are exactly 89 instances of the F-word in 'The Hate U Give' ... But last year alone, over 800 people lost their lives at the hands of police brutality. That number is far scarier. So when you're telling me it's the language, no, that's not what it is. You don't want to talk about the topic." It is important not to censor books and other forms of expression without considering the context and implications. We must have an honest and open dialogue about these issues to make meaningful changes.
Tumblr media
We are working on resolving this issue. So yes and no, because last year, there were requests to ban 2,571 titles; this is up 38% from 1,858 titles in 2021 we are making some progress toward resolving this issue but we have a lot of work to do!
Tumblr media
Additionally, censorship can limit access to information and resources, making it harder for individuals to make informed decisions. As a result, prejudice, discrimination, and a lack of understanding of other cultures can exist. We can fight censorship together and make sure everyone has access to accurate, unbiased information. By doing so, we can understand better and accept different cultures.

Scientific American: A science outreach magazine. It publishes articles on the latest scientific discoveries in science, technology, and society. The magazine has been in print since 1845. I don't mindlessly trust Scientific American, but I get a lot of helpful information from them, especially regarding the latest scientific developments in psychology. I constantly research and verify their articles, which is often an excellent starting point for understanding a new topic. I also often find relevant research and studies I wouldn't have known about otherwise. I frequently encounter the hipster effect and the desire to know some secret information that others don't. These cognitive biases are especially helpful when writing a paper or researching.
It helps me think critically and not take everything I read at face value. I also try to recognize and check my cognitive biases when reading or interpreting information. I also try to get different perspectives on a topic to ensure I understand the whole picture. Checking my preferences and getting different perspectives helps me reach a more informed conclusion. This allows me to make better decisions.
This article's second and third paragraphs explain why people like Andy fall prey to fake news and misinformation. By taking these steps, I'm able to avoid falling into the same traps as Andy. This example illustrates a minefield of cognitive biases. We prefer information from people we trust, our in-group. We pay attention to and are more likely to share information about risks—for Andy, the risk of losing his job. We search for and remember things that fit well with what we already know and understand. These biases are products of our evolutionary past, and for tens of thousands of years, they served us well. People who behaved by them—for example, by staying away from the overgrown pond bank where someone said there was a viper—were more likely to survive than those who did not.
Modern technologies are amplifying these biases in harmful ways, however. Search engines direct Andy to sites that inflame his suspicions, and social media connects him with like-minded people, feeding his fears. Making matters worse, bots—automated social media accounts that impersonate humans—enable misguided or malevolent actors to take advantage of his vulnerabilities.
Yes, I have experienced the "stickiness" of negative information. It is important to note that all information is not reliable. I somewhat agree with the author's conclusion: "By decreasing information costs, we have decreased its value and invited adulteration"? I understand the author's point about limiting information. Still, I feel like this idea is similar to the blue checkmark idea on Twitter all over again. This penalizes people who don't have the time or money to spread good ideas. By doing so, it just encourages bad actors to find loopholes. This idea was mentioned in Media & Money: Crash Course Media Literacy #5. Check out the link below. Even so, I don't believe information is decreasing in value. Information quality has sometimes improved as more people access it. Furthermore, people are now more aware of the dangers of misinformation and are better equipped to recognize it.
You can see two videos here: one short (2 minutes) about biases. And Media & Money: Crash Course on Media Literacy #5. (10-minute video). Enjoy!

Fact Check-Sun is 93 million miles from Earth measured by parallax, not 3,000 miles:
Tumblr media
Warning: All of my links from the three articles I used will be in bold, so it will take to that article without the image. ( That will be used for my work cited, not including Google images)
The actual distance of the Sun from Earth is 93 million miles, much greater than the 3,000 miles estimated by parallax. Today I learned that parallax is a method of measuring distances by observing the apparent shift in a nearby object. This is when viewed from different angles. This method measures the distance of stars and other astronomical objects from Earth. (fact-check-sun-is-93-million-miles-from-earth-measured-by-parallax-not-3000-miles) This is a short article worth checking out.
Tumblr media
Such distances are too great to measure directly, especially in cases like Earth, where a twisted ellipsoid is always moving. Because Earth doesn't orbit the Sun in an exact circle, its distance from the Sun changes during the year.
Tumblr media
At their closest, Earth and the Sun are 91.4 million miles apart, according to the California Institute of Technology. At their farthest, they're 94.5 million miles away from each other. The average distance is about 93 million miles. According to PolitiFact, it’s well established that the Earth is a sphere — technically an irregularly shaped ellipsoid, according to the National Ocean Service. It is about 93 million miles away from the Sun, as reported by NASA. (“Politifact - the Sun Is About 93 Million Miles Away from Earth, Though Unfounded Theories Claim Otherwise.” ) This first article is factual instead of an opinion or analysis piece because of its word choices and references to NASA.
Tumblr media
At the bottom of their page, they have a paragraph about Correction and Clarification. Both titles are bolded, providing evidence to back up their facts.  (Statements Green screened below)
Tumblr media
Anyone who believes that the Earth is flat would have a hard time explaining why the Sun and Moon appear the same size as Earth when they are vastly different distances away. (Earth's average distance to the Sun is about 93 million miles vs. 238,900 mi)
Tumblr media
In another article, Logically, the Sun is about 93 million miles from Earth, not 3,000. As part of the flat Earth conspiracy theory, images and videos showing optical illusions caused by its extreme brightness have been misinterpreted as proof that the Sun is closer to Earth. However, hundreds of years of scientific research have disproved this theory. Therefore, we mark this claim as false. (Logically ) At this point, they speculate on a flat Earth's political and social implications, debunking Flat earth theories by referencing famous and well-respected people, including debunker Mick West and Dr. Christopher S. Baird, a West Texas A&M University physics professor, instead of NASA.

Module 2: Blog Assignment
Today’s digital media diary was slightly different from the one posted about two weeks ago.  The first thing I usually do is check my Gmail from both accounts around 7 am. This I decided to bravely kill two birds with one stone finish this blog assignment along with the extra credit today before 7 am unlike my last post.
5:20 am - logged into Canvas. And watched " In a Nutshell Zuboff: surveillance capitalism and Democracy on YouTube, " about a 17-minute video. After watching the video, I better understand how technology has shaped our lives. I also became aware of the potential hazards of data used in our society. I am now more conscious of the importance of data privacy, even if I have nothing to hide.

 YouTube link:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AvtUrHxg8A&ab_channel=AlexandervonHumboldtInstitutf%C3%BCrInternetundGesellschaft
5:40 - 6:10 Read the article "Surveillance Capitalism: What It Is and How It Impacts Democracy" and created a mind map of surveillance capitalism. Started writing an essay on the topic. Developed a thesis statement. Researched more information about this topic. Checked the essay for errors. As part of the essay, I wrote a conclusion and submitted it.
6:10 - I posted the final result online on my Tumblr page.
6:26- Responded to Melissa Radojevic by mentioning that I was aware of the issue of data metrics, and posting at such a young age was a blessing. And since then, I have taken extra steps to protect my personal information. I have also been more conscious of my content. Further, I have taken the necessary steps to ensure that my accounts are private and that I only connect with people I trust.
Tumblr media
7: 30- 8:15 AM After I shower, I always start my morning with maintenance. I check my email out as much in the spam and check in with all the clubs and my grandmother. I like to do wordle/digits from the New Times.  My Grandmother lives in Michigan, so she almost will Always do it before me and often gives me hints. But today, I finished before she did. I also cleaned out my spam from both email accounts and double-checked assignments from my other classes

Module 3: Extra Credit Opportunity
Welcome, friends and family. All of you all love social media, but you should all be mindful of personal privacy and security online.
The most important threat you need to be concerned about is how having a social media presence because it is a double-edged sword. It can be used to build a positive reputation, but it can make you vulnerable to attacks such as cyberbullying and online harassment. It can also lead to reputational damage if someone posts something inappropriate, which can be difficult to repair.
Tumblr media
Here is an example from my favorite podcast, "A Life After Layoff," of why you should be careful about what you post.
youtube
Social media can also distract you from work or school, reducing your productivity. Therefore, it's critical to know how to use it responsibly. At the same time, it is seen as a red flag if you have no presence.
Tumblr media
It's essential to remember to be mindful of what you post and who can see it. Additionally, it's essential to take breaks from social media regularly to avoid feeling overwhelmed. It's also important to be aware of the potential for cyberbullying and scams and to be cautious when interacting with strangers online. Finally, remember to take time to appreciate the positive aspects of social media, such as connecting with friends and family and staying up to date with news and trends.
Tumblr media
Set healthy boundaries for yourself and be aware of when to take a break. Spend your time mindfully, and stay mindful of the constant barrage of notifications and posts. Focus on activities that make you feel good and give you a sense of fulfillment.
Tumblr media
But it is not all fun and games. Social engineering can be a significant threat; users must know the warning signs of possible scams and phishing attempts. Here are the red flags: check out the link below to learn more about the psychology behind social engineering
Tumblr media
It is also critical to use strong passwords and two-factor authentication. Regularly updated software is also necessary to keep systems secure. To increase privacy and security, users should use strong passwords, enable two-factor authentication, and avoid public Wi-Fi networks. Additionally, you should use a VPN service, disable cookies, regularly update their software, and delete your history.
Tumblr media
Dino pass, and password Ninja are family-friendly. Don't forget to add them to a password organizer such as Last Pass so that you remember one master password instead of hundreds! This will help ensure that all your accounts remain secure and safe because a password cipher is less likely to guess these combos of numbers and letters (A password cipher relies on key phases to shift through millions of combos of potential passwords, so don't use your favorite sports team or birthday directly). Using a password manager can also help you create strong and unique passwords for each account.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a critical step in keeping your data safe and secure to avoid this from happening to you.
Tumblr media
Check out the first link below to see how secure is your Password.

In my blog on Tumblr, I will explain how net neutrality impacts media consumers' access to technology, information, and ideas and how NAMLE promotes digital literacy as life long skill.
Tumblr media
To fulfill NAMLE's mission statement, we aim to create a world where everyone has access to, analyzes, evaluates, creates, and acts upon all forms of communication. According to our definition, media, and education are both broad terms that cover a wide range of topics. The concept of education encompasses both formal and informal settings, classrooms, living rooms, in the classroom, and after school, anywhere a lifelong learner can be reached. Examples of this media type include digital media, computers, video games, radio, television, mobile media, print, and communication technologies that we have yet to dream of. (NAMLE) Net neutrality affects how we consume all these types of media.
Tumblr media
Net neutrality impacts many things, including
How consumers access information and determines what information they receive.
Media literacy requires access to all information and ideas without censorship;
Participation in society, including the ability to receive and convey information, is a global human right.
Tumblr media
Regardless of background or location, everyone should have access to a wide range of information and opinions without being subjected to surveillance or censorship. This right allows people to form their own ideas and make their own decisions. It is essential for democracy and developing a strong, informed culture.
Tumblr media
In addition, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) must ensure that all websites, content, and applications are accessible at the same speed under the same conditions. It does not matter whether they are blocked or favored as long as they comply with the net neutrality principle. This response is a matter of principle, as it applies to all websites, content, and applications. Defining access as a way in which, when, where, and how people can gain access to the tools, technology, and digital skills needed to thrive in today's digital world is a fundamental concept.
Tumblr media
Net neutrality affects how media producers create content and how content is accessed and shared across the Internet. Therefore, this event has implications for media literacy education, impacting how people consume and create media. Moreover, net neutrality affects media consumers' access to technology, information, and ideas. Net neutrality ensures all content is treated equally and users can access it without interference from internet service providers.
Without Net Neutrality, ISPs can block or throttle content and prioritize their own content over paying customers. They can also create a two-tiered internet limiting access to technology, information, and ideas leading to censorship and restricting the freedom of public knowledge.
Tumblr media
NAMLE works to protect net neutrality and promote open access to communication. In this regard, it is critical to preserve net neutrality to protect the free flow of information. Here is a youtube video about it below and why it is important for them not to repel it :
