btw i'm not really active on this acc anymore. i made a new blog a while back and i ended up using it wayyyy more often. i think on this one i feel kinda weighed down by the fact that it's the exact same account i've had since i was eleven years old, and i've changed a lot since then!!! i've grown, i've learned, my mental health has gotten SO MUCH BETTER, and i'm just not the person i was when i first signed up for tumblr.

I wasn’t gonna say anything but you know what absolutely sick of mxtx fans pulling this excuse whenever the issues in hers and starember’s works are criticized. making aggressive and “barbaric” characters dark skinned is a colorist/racist trope that has been around for ages everywhere and anyone is allowed to denounce it yes not only poc! so drop the “ugh white/western people🙄”. I don’t care if you’re a poc I don’t care if you’re asian you do NOT get to not only ignore but normalize colorism then turn around and call it a western concept when people inside your own community are affected by it. it won’t kill you to acknowledge the issues in your favored piece of media you’re all so stupid dear god

on top of the actually important criticisms about star*mb*rs art, one thing that pisses me off is that every action has to be literally written on the panel like girl... there are certain things that i could understand like sighing, rolling eyes, et cetera, but they'll have a panel of a character smiling and have text that says smiles. like. we got that girl we know. WE CAN SEE IT. the text jumps out so much too it's impossible to ignore. if i wanted to have EVERY. SINGLE. action that characters were preforming told to me i would literally just read the book. it feels like the artist either didn't trust the panel to convey the action (which is literally what the panel is supposed to be doing) or didn't trust the reader to understand the panel. so either they think they're a shitty artist or they think the readers are idiots. which to be fair they are. but the art is so fucking ugly too like from a purely artistic standpoint. the skin tones are so desaturated and skewed. the rendering is okay but it's not incredible, it's pretty average today, but again the colors are almost always off. everything seems to be shaded in a locked color palette of highlight colors, shadow colors, and base colors, no matter what. i saw a few panels where the only light source was red and literally there were a few red highlights and the rest was just the normal palette... failure.

help and you know starember fans look at it too like wow the way they made xie lian look like a waif with cataracts is soo gorgeous and mind blowing and amazing and sexy and beautiful and underrated i love how hua cheng holds him with his gigantic yaoi hands and the way his tiny head looks so normal on his huge body

hi! i hope this isnt inappropriate or weird to ask, but im pretty new to mxtx's works so im still learning everything about the state of things so im kinda just asking when i see things to be curious about, but what is the problem with starember? all i know is they are the manhuajia for the tcgf manhua

sorry for taking so long to reply, couldn't find my previous answer on this and talking in detail about starember shaves about 15 years off my lifespan on average so let's get to the nazi lotr incest art they drew - which is from 2015 but was still up on their lofter a while ago. can't be bothered to check if it's still up but considering everything else it doesn't even matter. continues under the cut

their stans who swear starember is just a uwu small asian bean who can't possibly know wrong from right will bring up that it's old art but they're still drawing incredibly fucking colorist/racist and sometimes borderline pedo shit so it's not a "they grew out of it" situation

about the manhua: it goes an extra mile to exacerbate the racism/colorism that already exists in the novel by whitewashing the characters to hell and back - the most egregious example being that, while xie lian was already pale in the earlier chapters, they actually went back to redraw him even lighter, with "daintier" features and light eyes. see the comparison below

the banyue arc is a racist mess in all adaptations so this isn't exclusive to the manhua but it does make this issue even more obvious. another example: they went out of their way to make hua cheng dark skinned in fanart to drive the point that he's monstrous

overall if someone likes starember/the manhua it's a canary in a coalmine situation - 90% chance if you ever criticize starember or mxtx they'll call you a stupid westerner who's actually the racist one, even when they're westerners themselves. as for minor gripes, even without all of this the manhua would still be a garbage adaptation that butchers the characterization and several plot points for the sake of being generic danmei fanfic #6654651, and the art is ugly as shit. that's about it
