maybe it's just my bisexuality and love for musicals and concept music but people changing the pronouns when they're singing something that doesn't neatly align with their gender/sexuality is so fucking weak. there's always a little bit of acting involved in singing. when i'm singing the mariner's revenge song by the decemberists, i am an orphan setting out to sea to avenge my dead mother. when i'm singing hellfire by the mechanisms, i am a doomsday preacher prophesying the end of my world. when i'm singing kiss me son of god by they might be giants, i am a capitalist. and you can't even leave the pronouns alone to make it a little gay? weak. pathetic. be serious.

Look, I agree that trying to sell folks on original fiction by citing fanfic tropes is asinine, but at least "oh, it's got enemies to lovers!" tells you something substantive about the plot and characters. I once had somebody try to convince me to read a work of original fiction by telling me that it has a romance with a height gap.
