We learned that communication is a process. It is the exchange of information and expression for us to understand and to be understood. It came from the Latin words “communis”, which means working together or “communicare”, which means to share or to divide. We also learned the basic elements of communication; the sender, message, medium or channel, receiver and feedback. We also learned that there are different process and ways of communicating like the Transmission or Linear Model, Shannon-Weaver’s Model, Inter-active Model, Osgood-Schramm Model and Berlo’s SMCR. These models helps us to improve and to manage how we communicate. It determines where or with whom communication encounter starts and ends. It is important to practice and learn these models because it will help us in our daily lives. If we don’t know the proper process of communication, there is a possibility that communication will fail and we won’t understand each other. We learned that there are exchanging of ideas, information and message of communication but it will never happen if we don’t know the proper process of communication. We should at least learn the basic elements of communication because every second, minute and hour we encounter a lot of people. Using the different model of communication we can express ourselves, opinions and feelings to other people. It helps us to become a better communicator. The lesson that we tackled about the communication and its basic elements and different models helped us to understand and to have an additional knowledge about communication.
