PRS ‘s humble beginning is a belie to its elegant and flashy designs as it involves Founder Paul Reed Smith’s interest in building guitars which came out of necessity. This initiative by Smith could experience its proper recognition as a project for a college music instructor in 1975. Launched in 1985 with $500,000 fund raised by Smith from a combination of preorders and an investment from businessman Warren Esanu, it was moved into a small factory in Annapolis. Early PR models focused on playability and aesthetics, influenced by classic guitars. These models were made from highly figured woods such as curly maple for guitar bodies, and those woods, along with bird-shaped neck inlays, soon became calling cards.
