Kacey Musgraves accepts the Best Country Album award for ‘Golden Hour’ onstage during the 61st Annual GRAMMY Awards at Staples Center on February 10, 2019 in Los Angeles, California.
Give me some Kacey Musgraves songs to listen to!! I’ve never heard anything from her :’)
Hiii! Okay. So I’m going to distinguish the songs below between quintessential “introduction to Kacey” and her style songs from my personal favourite Kacey songs.
My recommendation is always to start at the beginning and listen to an artist’s discography in chronological order. But I get that most people don’t have time for that shit lol.
So
Kacey’s strength is her modern take on country. Her voice doesn’t have the hugest range and isn’t the most belt-worthy, but it’s consistent and sweet and approachable. Lyrically, she’s much like Taylor in that she’s a storyteller. She paints a vivid picture of the world she lives in and her feelings about love.
Half of Kacey is funny country girl seeing the humour and also the charm in a small-minded, small country town life. She’s the girl who’s taken it upon herself to drag the entire country industry kicking and screaming into a modern, accepting world.
The other half is the most internal thoughts of a very observant person. She shares characteristics with John Mayer in that way whose skill is taking the smallest thought you’ve had about yourself, love, and the world that you thought only you felt and making it a universal acknowledgement that, “No friend. Everyone has felt that way.” It’s like the moment you realized that everyone raced raindrops on car windows in their childhood. She crystallizes moments of isolation and translates it into relatable songs.
i hope taylor never stops singing love story on tour, like i hope she’s out there doing the ts34 tour and still singing it because everyone who goes to a taylor concert deserves to get to dramatically sing along to “marry me juliet you never have to be alone!!!”
