Can't Choose Between Concealers? Color-Correcting Concealer vs Liquid Concealer
Concealer is a beauty tool that is typically matched to the color of one's skin to cover blemishes and dark circles under the eyes. Some use a concealer that is one or two shades lighter than their skin color to create a brightening effect. There is also an additional type of concealer that is created in different colors to conceal different skin issues. Today, we are going to go over the differences between a typical liquid concealer and a color-correcting concealer.
Color-Correcting Concealers
Pros: Using the color wheel theory, green concealer cancels out the red undertones from acne and rosacea. Purples minimize yellow spots while orange concealers cancel out the blue in dark circles under the eyes. Color-correcting concealers work best for uneven skin tones and severe skin discoloration.
Cons: This type of concealer cannot be used alone for a full-coverage makeup look since each color can only be used to cover their opposite color on the color wheel. So acquiring multiple colors can get pricey and for those with minimal discoloration, it may not be needed.

Liquid Concealer
Pros: Liquid concealers brighten one's skin complexion while minimizing skin discoloration. Its radiant finish makes it suitable for most skin types. The lightweight formula is very breathable and buildable!
Cons: For those with severe skin discoloration and/or acne, liquid concealer might not provide enough coverage to cancel out specific undertones. Applying multiple layers to counteract undertones that vary from one's overall skin tone can leave the skin looking 'cakey' and heavily textured.

Highlighter is a beauty tool that adds shine to your makeup look by reflecting light on the highest points of your face. Depending on your proficiency, comfort level, and skin type, one type of highlighter may look more flattering on you compared to others. Read further to learn about the benefits and disadvantages of both liquid and powder highlighters.
Liquid Highlighter
Pros: The hydrating properties of liquid highlighters leave the skin with a healthy glow while providing moisture. Liquids are typically very concentrated in pigment, meaning a little goes along way!
Cons: Liquid highlighters can leave oily skin looking too shiny and have a difficult time lasting on oily skin. The application process can be tedious; if you put too much on, then your skin ends up looking oily instead of dewy. Liquids are also very easy to streak and require more blending compared to powders.

Powder Highlighter
Pros: If you are new to the makeup world, powders are for you! They are typically pressed in a pan for a no-fuss, easy application process. The matte-finish of powder highlighters is most effective for those with oily skin because it helps to ride the skin of excess shine.
Cons: Powders are not suitable for those with mature and/or dry skin. It leaves the skin looking lifeless and dull, pulling around dry patches of skin. It can also settle into creases and fine lines instead of blurring skin impurities.

Primer is a must for those intending to use foundation and/or concealer in their makeup routines. It creates an even canvas for makeup to go onto by blurring the pores and fine lines. It helps to create an even distribution of makeup and make it stay longer! Primers come in a variety of formulas, such as sprays and gels. Yet, which is better for you?
Gel Primer
Pros: Gel-based primers are typically suited for all skin types! For those with sensitive skin, gels are formulated to be less irritating and lighter on the skin. The application process is simple, easily applied with fingers or a makeup sponge. It also provides a matte-finish!
Cons: Some gel formulas are less effective at making makeup last longer compared to a spray primer. The matte-finish can make dry, mature skin look dull and dried out. Certain gels are not ideal for those looking for a glowy, dewy-finish unless paired with a hydrating moisturizer.

Spray Primer
Pros: Spray primers are much more lightweight and quicker drying than its gel counterpart. Some are made with shimmers to give the appearance of a shiny, dewy complexion. It can also be used to refresh and hydrate the skin throughout the day even after makeup application.
Cons: Compared to gels, sprays are more expensive for a smaller amount of product. For those looking for a matte-finish, this primer formula is not for you. Because the formula is best suited in a spray bottle, it makes even distribution more difficult.

Want to draw attention to your eyes? Eyeshadows are a cosmetic tool applied to the eyelids for a sultry, dark look or one that is soft and subtle. Regardless of the intended look, one might wonder about the advantages and drawbacks regarding different eyeshadow formulas. Today, we will be discussing the two most common eyeshadow types: pressed powders and creams.
Powder Eyeshadow
Pros: Pressed powders are fairly easy to apply. Perfect for those new to applying makeup! Powders can be easily blended upon the lid and mixed and matched with a variety of colors. They are very buildable, which makes it very easy to fix any errors throughout the application process.
Cons: Powder eyeshadow can accentuate fine lines and texture on the skin, specifically throughout the day. Some might deal with powder 'fallout' in which a small amount of powder may fall upon the cheeks. Powders are not long-lasting, meaning the pigment tends to dissipate in color after a few hours.

Cons: Creams cannot be applied on top of powders and are limited in color. They are not ideal for those wishing to create eyeshadow looks with multiple colors. Also, those with severely oily skin or who live in much warmer climates might notice smudging throughout the day.

Cons: The formula of matte lipsticks is very drying and can leave the lips looking cracked and dehydrated. Some formulas leave a stain that can take hours to dissipate in color. Cons: This type of lipstick needs to be reapplied often and can be easily transferred off one's lips after a meal or in hot weather. Some formulas leave the lips feeling tacky or sticky, which can be uncomfortable throughout the day.

Bronzer vs Contour: Breaking Down the Difference
Unlike foundation and concealer, bronzer and contour are makeup tools used to add depth to your face by using shades darker than your natural skin color. Although they are similar, both use that added depth for different purposes! Purposes that might be beneficial for you or unnecessary to achieve your ideal makeup look.
Bronzer
Pros: Bronzer creates a tan complexion for those looking to add warm undertones in their makeup. It adds a radiant glow for a perfect sun-kissed look! The all-over bronze look can be applied down the neck and even on your chest.
Cons: Bronzer is easy to mess up! Too much can leave you looking both shiny and muddy with an orange complexion. Bronzers tend to pull around dry patches of skin, specifically liquid bronzers. If you struggle with dry skin, then having a hydrating moisturizer is a must to use this product.

Pros: Waterproof mascara is designed to withstand water, benefitting those who get sweaty at the gym, swim laps at the pool, or get caught in the rain. The long-lasting formula is less likely to smudge and is more efficient at holding a lash curl.
Cons: Using waterproof mascara daily can lead to brittle, dry lashes that are more prone to lash breakage. Removing this mascara is more difficult and the rubbing needed can lead to inflammation around the eyes.

Cons: Tubing mascara lacks the volume that its counterpart is known for. Clumping is a common issue that makes it difficult to layer tubing mascara. If you do not possess naturally thick lashes, then do not rely on tubing mascara for some much needed volume.
