Gonna lead with: I don't fundamentally disagree with you, and this is all semantics/discussing why I feel KFF is a confusing term that sometimes does get misappropriated and something else would be better.
I think the confusion is that "kinning for fun" doesn't inherently imply someone's kintype isn't a real identity they experience. Many common aspects of people's identity are all about what people do for fun - e.g. I identify as a fan of various things because I have fun with those things, and for no deeper reason. Why someone identifies as something is somewhat unrelated to if it's a part of their identity. (It's related to if someone is otherkin in that being otherkin suggests certain reasons, but otherkin don't have a monopoly on nonhuman identity.)
Which isn't to say that the people you're calling KFF don't exist, especially on like, TikTok, and that they're not really annoying. There are a lot of people who think being kin is a metaphor nowadays, which is extremely annoying, but I don't think KFF is a good term for them. There's a huge difference between e.g. people who experience voluntary aspects of their species identity, such as otherlinkers, and people who don't experience something as an identity at all. "Kin for fun" as a term kind of sounds more like the former than the latter, and otherlinkers etc have frequently gotten caught in the crossfire of this debate, or had to deal with otherkin insisting people who don't identify as their types are otherlinkers because they're having fun.
It's annoying as a serious otherlinker to put up with, because these people certainly could be otherlinkers if they chose, but what they're engaging in isn't otherlinking, and the rhetoric they post is often very anti-otherlink along with being very anti-otherkin. But they get pushed into our spaces by people who don't understand what they or we are.
(And as you pointed out, it also leads to confusion with people who have fun being otherkin and sometimes gets misappropriated as a label for people who want to wear a shirt with their kintype or whatever. So I'm not convinced it's actually helping our community to call people who don't identify as nonhuman but enjoy LARP/RP/etc "KFF.")
How would you define kin-for-fun? I have never seen a concrete definition of it. I have seen KFF people strugling to define it themselves, but I have also seen KFF people just not know how to define it and just resulting in extremist exclusionist rhetoric.
It is basically exactly what it says on the tin - someone who claims to "kin for fun," or in longer words that no one but me has ever used, to "kin" as an action done for the purpose of having fun. That is, after all, where the term came from. (It's also why I'm more than a little taken aback at how many people are misunderstanding it to mean something else.)
Generally what that means is that they're using "kinning" to mean something along the lines of relating to, projecting onto, roleplaying as, vibing with, or otherwise really really liking a character/thing. Probably part of the reason people have trouble defining it as a one-sentence deal is that it covers a lot of things!
What it explicitly means, though, and this is the important part, is that they do not, by their own admission, actually identify as their "kins" - if you actually identify as the thing in question, you're not KFF, full stop, no matter what else is going on (you use "kin" as a verb, you have a "weird" kintype, you don't take yourself super seriously and like to joke around and have fun with it, etc. etc.). The whole argument is about whether or not it's okay to use the word "kin" to mean something other than identifying as nonhuman/fictional in some capacity.
And for the millionth time, it in no world means "someone who likes to have fun with being 'kin." That is a wholly different animal from "someone who claims to "kin" for the purpose of having fun."

I don't know if it's acknowledged enough that psychological otherkin can be spiritual/religious in other ways without believing thier alterhumanity is supernatural in origin. It's often couched as the reincarnationist pagan spiritual otherkin vs the atheist Beings of Science psychological otherkin when like most things it's More Complicated Than That (tm)

The principal difference between 1980s anime and modern anime is that when modern anime shows you a scantily clad girl riding a motorcycle it’s framed in a way that makes it clear it expects you to be getting a boner for the girl, whereas when 1980s anime shows you a scantily clad girl riding a motorcycle it’s framed in a way that makes it clear it expects you to be getting a boner for the motorcycle.

I like this pathfinder race of space slime people who want to turn everyone into more space slime people, like a cult, and how it's scarier BECAUSE there's no trick or scam or secret agenda, you just cave because they're that nice for real.
