Can We Try Again?
Written for @steddiemicrofic
February prompt: Edge | WC: 509 | Rating: G | CW: none
Song fic based on skinny dipping by Sabrina Carpenter
Steve stops by his usual coffee shop like he’s done everyday since he and Robin moved to Indianapolis, quickly gives his order and gets lost in thought as he waits.
“Oat milk latte for Eddie?” The barista calls out, immediately making Steve look towards the counter where he sees a familiar head of dark curls.
There’s no way it’s actually him right?
As Eddie turns around, Steve’s stomach falls as the realization sinks in.
It’s been two years since they last saw each other. They’d dated for a while, but eventually they realized it wasn’t working and that they needed to let each other go.
Steve watches as Eddie takes his drink from the barista and makes eye contact with him as he comes to a halt.
Suddenly his hands feel very sweaty and he feels like he shouldn’t be here.
Steve clears his throat and starts making his way to the door.
“Steve?” He hears the familiar voice call.
He pauses and takes a deep breath, turning around to force a smile.
“It is you.” Eddie says, taking a step closer.
“It’s me.” Steve replies. “How have you been?”
“I’ve been fine. How about you? How’s Robin doing?”
Steve chuckles dryly, “She’s doing great. Long distance still with Nance, but they make it work. We live here in the city together and I’m training to be an EMT.”
Eddie takes a sip of his coffee, “That’s perfect for you. It’s great seeing you again. There’s that restaurant up the street we used to go to all time when we’d come up here. Do you wanna grab a bite to eat later?”
Steve considers the offer for a moment, “Are you sure that’s a good idea?”
“Come on, Steve. I'd love to catch up with you."
As they continue to talk, they realize how easy it is and how comfortable they remain around each other, even years later after not being together anymore.
As they find their way into the restaurant later, Steve knows they shouldn’t, but he finds himself gravitating towards the booth they’d always take.
They both seem to have grown a lot in recent years. What used to be several arguments in Steve’s garage and how neither of them were ready to be in a relationship, this seems new. Like they’re on the edge of something different. Something better.
After a while they fall into a comfortable silence and Steve looks at Eddie curiously.
There’s a lot of unresolved feelings bubbling inside of him and it makes him wonder why they broke up at all.
Before he can catch himself, Steve finds himself speaking what he’s thinking. “Do you ever wonder what would’ve happened if we had worked out?”
“I don’t think either of us were ready if I’m being honest. Are you seeing anyone?”
“I had a boyfriend for a few months, way too many first dates to count too but nothing has stuck.”
“Would it be bad if I said maybe we should try again?” Eddie asks hesitantly.
Steve smiles softly, “I’d like that.”

soulmate soundtrack
happy valentines day, @oriarts! thank you for always being in my corner. your prompt wormed its way into my brain (lol), and this is the result. i hope you love it. <3
the fic || steve's side || eddie's side
Eddie meets his soulmate the first day of sophomore year. It takes him seven years—following the trail of song snippets that get stuck in his soulmates head—to figure out who it is. Unfortunately, it’s not even a cool song that finally does it. It's fucking LAST CHRISTMAS, by WHAM.
10k. 1/1. rated T (for canon-typical depictions of violence).
read it now on ao3!

As soon as the words left her mouth, Robin wished she could take them back.
Because I love you rang out like an echo in her ears.
“You—what?” Chrissy asked, eyes wide and shocked.
Robin had just wanted to tell Chrissy that she deserved better, to make her see she deserved more than crumbs from the people she dated. But Chrissy had gotten a little defensive and the words had blurted out of Robin’s mouth when Chrissy asked why she even cared.
“Robin,” Chrissy whispered, her eyes now wet with unshed tears and Robin had to leave. She couldn't stay and have the love of her life tell her to her face that she didn't want her. She already knew.
She shook her head and made for the door—to leave, to get out of here, to go anywhere but here.
She felt a hand on her wrist, softly wrapping around it like she could shake it free if she wanted to. She didn't want to. She’d never been able to pull away from Chrissy even when it hurt her.
She turned back.
“I didn't know you felt that way,” Chrissy said, pulling at her wrist, still gentle.
Robin stepped closer—she’d go wherever Chrissy wanted her to.
“If you’re gonna break my heart, please just do it so I can leave,” Robin said, voice shaky.
“I don't wanna break your heart,” Chrissy said, tears finally falling over her lashes. “I wanna kiss you and tell you that I love you too.”
Robin brought her hands up to wipe away the spilled tears, searching Chrissy’s face for a lie but finding none.
“I love you,” Chrissy said again, and Robin let out a laugh, a fragile little thing.
She cupped Chrissy’s face and pressed her mouth against hers, whispering the words back.

this campfire won't last forever
↳read it on ao3! (1/1, 10k, rated G)
my contribution to the #SweetAndSpicyValentinesExchange, for @ssleif!
(huge thanks to @oriarts for the banner & betaing, and for @maxineholtzmann for betaing as well!)
Steve, Program Director of Camp Know Where, was expecting it to be a summer like any other. A summer filled with activities, swimming and canoe trips and quiet evening nights around the campfire. He was expecting it to be a summer of fun and friends and, frankly, the usual. What he wasn't expecting was for the last-minute music head replacement to come crashing into his life, and change everything. Or: Five summer nights full of sparkling possibility, and the one night when it explodes into something real.

The Compatibility Test
Happy Valentine’s Day to my amazing friend @steddieasitgoes!! I really hope you like what I did with your prompt and that you’ve had a nice day. I love you lots and am grateful you’ve entered my life! 💕💕
Rating: G | WC: 2,102 | CW: none
Ao3 Link
Steve stares at his laptop screen as he pulls up the compatibility test that he and his other classmates were encouraged to take during morning announcements.
This is incredibly stupid. But if there’s one thing he knows, he’s going to get matched with the girl of his dreams.
He’d already lost her once sure, but Steve knows that he and Nancy are meant to be together, and this stupid quiz is going to prove it.
His eyes blur as he goes from question to question.
What are your important life values?
Do you believe in giving people second chances?
Do you know how to keep a secret?
Would you choose a romantic relationship over monetary success?
Does your ego stop you from apologizing even when you’re wrong?
There’s 100 questions to click through, some of them asking for a more complicated response while others are yes/no questions.
As he reaches the end, he takes a deep breath as his cursor hovers over the submit button. He knows it’s just some dumb quiz and that the results shouldn’t matter all that much, but if he’s matched with Nancy then maybe he can prove his point.
She should be going to the Sweethearts dance with him. Not anyone else, especially Byers of all people.
Steve decides to distract himself as he waits for his results to be emailed to him, failing miserably as he can’t think of anything else.
Eventually, he reaches for his phone and goes to face time Robin, wondering if she’s got her results yet.
She answers after the second ring, popping up on his screen which makes him smile.
“Hey, have you got your results yet?” He asks immediately.
“Oh, for that dumb compatibility test thing? Nah. What about you?”
“Nope.” He responds, popping the p.
“Let me guess, you’re pining over your ex and want to prove to her you should get back together? Give it up, dingus. There’s someone out there who is better than Nancy Wheeler.”
“Ouch.” He pauses for a moment. “Who are you hoping you get? Vickie?”
Robin shrugs. “Eh, I’m kind of over her. I think these tests don’t mean shit, but if I had it my why I wouldn’t be mad about being paired with Chrissy.”
Steve scoffs, “The cheerleader?”
“Hey! She’s cute. Also, what if you’re matched with a guy?” Robin asks.
He’d come out to her as bi just a few weeks ago, but honestly he doesn’t find the male population of Hawkins all that promising. His ex jock friends are all painfully straight and annoying, no matter how attractive he might find them, and the others? Well they aren’t really his type.
“What guy would be a good match for me, Robs?” He replies, reaching to take a sip from his water bottle.
“Oh my god, what if you’re set up with Munson?! He and Chrissy are super close right? How funny would that be?”
Steve immediately spits his water out, leaving specks of water on his phone screen.
“Munson? Like Eddie? Metalhead, nerd, completely obsessed with that game Dustin and the others like so much? That Munson?”
“Yeah! He’s got kind of an interesting vibe. Plus everyone knows he’s gay.”
“Robin. I need you to think about what you’re saying. Even if we did get matched up by some strange coincidence do you really think that’s a good idea?”
“Come on, Steve. I’ve seen you check him out before.”
“I have not!” Steve is quick to defend himself, despite knowing that she’s right.
He hears a ding from the other line and sees Robin run to sit down and check the notification.
“Oh my god, okay my results are in!” She quietly reads the email, dropping the phone as she screams in excitement, “Chrissy! I got matched with Chrissy!”
“The band geek and the cheerleader. What kind of romantic comedy is that?” Steve jokes, smiling fondly at his best friend.
“It’s a real life fairytale. Oh my god, okay. How do I ask her to the dance?! There’s so much I need to plan for…” Robin starts rambling and Steve feels a little bad for letting his mind wander.
Not long after, his phone dings and he sees the email notification pop up for him.
“Robs.” He tries, hoping she’ll stop talking and pay attention to no avail. “Robs.” He tries again, a little louder which makes her go quiet.
“It just came in.”
“And?”
Steve scans the email and his heart drops as he sees the name.
Eddie Munson
There is absolutely no way that’s correct. Robin notices the way his face falls and the mood changes.
“I’m guessing it’s not Nancy?”
“Uh, it’s Eddie.” Steve says.
“Wait, what?! I was joking!”
“Not helping Robs.”
“You could still ask her to the dance? See if she says yes?”
Steve tosses his phone across the bed and shoves his face in his hands as he groans.
He picks the phone back up and feels even worse when he sees the way Robin is looking at him.
“Why Eddie? We have nothing in common!”
Robin falls silent as she lets him rant.
Steve had an itch beforehand that he’d get someone who isn’t Nancy, and quite honestly he knows she’d end up going to the dance with Byers anyway, considering she’d moved on months ago and she seemed happy with Jonathan, but if he’s being completely honest, the breakup has taken a toll on him and he really just wanted this one thing to prove that maybe there was a chance of getting back together.
“So what are you going to do?” Robin asks after he eventually falls silent.
“I don’t know.”
“I still think you should try to go. It’s our senior year. There’s not many school dances left. And, you might not agree with me, but I think you and Eddie might have more in common than you realize.” Robin responds, choosing her words carefully.
Steve scoffs but falls silent as he starts to think about it… Eddie Munson is… he’s interesting. He’s loud, has this way about him of always speaking his mind. He has an obvious armor built up around him with how often Steve’s old friends pick on him. He takes most of the beatings from bullies in order to keep them away from his younger peers.
The metal head vibe is interesting. He’s got the tight black pants with rips, the chains, tattoos, long dark hair. But there’s also something about him that draws you in, the dimples on full display as he smiles. He might talk shit, but Steve’s noticed things he does that clearly makes that whole “I don’t care” attitude seem to crumble.
Steve wonders what Eddie might be thinking, assuming he got Steve as his match too.
Maybe talking to him could be a good thing.
“Earth to dingus?” Robin asks, pulling him from his thoughts.
“I… sorry. I should probably get started on homework. I’ll see you at school tomorrow.” Steve says, saying goodbye again before hanging up.
He lays down and stares up at the ceiling, his mind racing as he thinks about Eddie and how they would supposedly be a good match if some compatibility test is anything to go off of.
Robin wasn’t wrong when she said Steve found him attractive. There’s definitely something about him that pulls you in. Eddie is a mystery to Steve and the longer he thinks about it, the more he wants to try to solve that mystery.
-
The next morning, Steve makes his way out to the picnic table he knows Eddie would likely be at, not far from the school.
He takes a breath of relief as he finds Eddie sitting there on top of the table, feet on the bench with his lunchbox next to him, scrolling through his phone as he ignores his surroundings.
“Munson?” Steve calls out, accidentally startling him as he jumps up.
“Jesus Christ!” Eddie pauses for a moment as he sets his phone down and places a hand over his heart. “Some warning would’ve been ni- Harrington? What are you doing here?”
Steve nervously kicks at a rock as he shoves his hands in his pockets. “I uh, I wanted to talk to you.”
Eddie reaches for the lunchbox and begins to open it, pausing when Steve speaks up again.
“I’m not here for drugs, man.”
“What are you here for then?” Eddie asks with a furrowed brow.
“The uh, that test they had us take. You uh, you took it right?”
Eddie chuckles. “You really believe those results mean anything? Yeah, I took it. Yes, I know we were matched, but no, I’m not interested in what you have to say because clearly it was a mistake on their part.”
Eddie slams the lunchbox shut and starts to walk away.
“What if it wasn’t?” Steve calls out, Eddie stopping in his tracks before turning to look at him again.
“I highly doubt that. I figured it was probably some dumb prank the student council was playing.”
Steve looks at him confused. “Why would they do that?”
“Look who you’re asking.” Eddie says, gesturing to himself.
Steve sighs, “For what it’s worth, I’ve thought about it. I want to ask you to go to Sweethearts with me.”
Eddie bursts out laughing. “You can’t be serious! Plus, school dances aren’t my thing.”
“Why’d you take the test then?” Steve asks, standing his ground.
“It was purely out of curiosity and I wasn’t expecting anything to come from it.”
“I ended up not getting what I wanted, but I’m not gonna mope about it man. Just… think about it? I’ll be right here the night of the dance if you change your mind.” Steve says, turning on his heel as he leaves Eddie standing alone.
If he’s gonna be an ass about it, maybe Steve would rather spend the night alone at home where he listens to Taylor Swift and Hozier and eats junk food while he doesn’t pay attention to whatever Nicholas Sparks movie he decides to put on.
Though Robin would drag him to the dance anyway. So maybe he’ll get lucky and Munson will pull his head out of his ass, or Nancy will decide to break up with Byers and come running back to him.
He’ll have to table those thoughts for later.
-
The night of the dance finally comes along and Steve stares at his reflection in the mirror. After some back and forth, he decides to leave the top few buttons undone and forgo the tie, quickly putting on his matching red suit jacket before heading out to go get stood up. Because let’s be realistic here, there’s no way Eddie is actually showing up.
As he enters the clearing where the picnic table is, he finds Eddie there waiting for him, wearing a simple black suit with his hair pinned up, holding a single red rose.
“I was kind of an asshole.” Eddie says, gently handing Steve the flower as he curiously steps towards him. “I’m not good with this shit. Honestly, I took that stupid test because I secretly hoped the universe would be on my side for once and tell me if I had a chance with you, but I think I may have blown it when you came to talk to me the other day. I- I’m sorry, and if you’ll give me a chance I’d love to be your date tonight.”
Steve softly smiles as he lifts the rose to smell it, placing it on the table gently as he reaches into his suit pocket for the boutonniere he’d bought on the off chance Eddie would actually show up.
“Well I’m here arent I? I’d say that’s giving you a chance.”
“I don’t think I deserve it.”
“Shut up.” Steve says, kissing his cheek quickly before reaching for his hand. “Come on, Chrissy and Robin are waiting for us right through those doors.”
Eddie giggles as he lets Steve pull him along to the entrance of the school, the music growing louder as they inch closer.
As soon as they find the girls, they make their way onto the dance floor, focusing on being together in the moment.
As Steve wraps his arms around Eddie as the first slow song of the night comes on, he realizes how right it feels, and as he glances over in the direction of Nancy and Jonathan, he smiles.
He never needed Nancy and while they’re far from actually being a couple, Steve has a feeling the person he belongs with is already in his arms.

a valentine's day exchange gift for @maxineholtzmann! sorry not sorry for lying to you about this 🥰🥰 hope you enjoy!!
Nancy hadn’t expected to end up writing about hockey, much less finding one of the players… interesting. Robin hadn’t expected the Professional Women’s Hockey League to happen and she was so excited to get to skate, she just never thought she’d find love along the way. Journalist meets skater, skater loves ice, and they are both idiots all the way down.

come and knock on our door (we've been waiting for you) - on ao3
Happy Valentine's Day @hexiewrites!! I hope you enjoy this sweet and spicy fic about our favourite throuple for the #sweetandspicyexchange!
Rating: Explicit
Relationships: Chrissy Cunningham/Eddie Munson/Steve Harrington
Summary:
The first time Chrissy and Eddie brought home a third, they decided on a few rules: they both had to be involved (both in the decision and the actual sex), nothing too kinky, and, most importantly, one time only.
Their one time only rule was all too easy to break once they met Steve Harrington. Steve, a local paramedic and friend of Nancy and Robin, was everything they could have ever wanted in an additional partner. Having him around made Eddie and Chrissy feel complete in a way they never had before. They’d only known him since Halloween, but they couldn’t imagine their lives without him. He was handsome, kind, generous with his time and affection, and he was the rare person who was interested in both Eddie and Chrissy equally. They knew it from the moment they met him on Halloween that it was going to be hard to stay away from him…
OR
3 times Eddie & Chrissy sleep with Steve and 1 time it means something more

Eddie Doesn't Share Food
Love is sharing food.
a @steddielovemonth prompt | 1131 words | CW: N/A | Rating: G
--
It’s a common fact among Hellfire that Eddie doesn’t share food easily. He can provide food to everyone and if he knows you’re going without, he’ll gladly give you all of his share, or at the very least a good portion of it. But outside of a necessity or hosting an event, Eddie’s not one to share.
When they get a basket of fries for the table after games, Eddie takes handfuls at a time. He’ll eat one and place the rest on a napkin in front of him. He’ll eat a few here and there, grab a few more from the basket, and then eat the remainder from his napkin.
They’ll all be sharing bites and trying each other’s meals when they’re out to eat, swapping onion rings for fries and bites of steak for the grilled chicken, but not Eddie. Never Eddie. If you even ask for a bite of his food, he’ll give you that stare, the one he usually saves for his villain NPCs or when you ask a dumb question in Hellfire.
So you can imagine Dustin’s surprise when Eddie splits his burger with Steve unprompted.
“Are you sure, man?” Steve asks, taking the sandwich from Eddie’s hands.
Eddie nods, already reaching to take a bite of his half. “Go for it.”
Steve shrugs. “Want a part of mine?” He offers his plate, where his BLT is already cut in half and one side is completely untouched.
“Sure,” Eddie says.
Dustin looks between the two of them, unable to even touch his chicken fingers, as they go back to eating like this is a completely normal thing for them to do. And if it was literally anyone else other than Eddie fucking Munson, Dustin may be inclined to agree that it is. But since Eddie is the initiating party, it is assuredly not normal.
And he knows a thing or two about freaky things.
“Close your mouth,” Steve says as he tosses a fry at him. “You’ll catch flies and I am not about to perform the heimlich because you decided to swallow flies instead of fries.”
Eddie snorts, smirking through his mouthful.
Dustin scrubs his face, then shakes his head so hard his hat nearly falls off. “What am I looking at?” he asks, eyes narrowed at Eddie.
“We’re eating. It’s what you’re supposed to do at lunch, Henderson,” Eddie says. He reaches forward to thump the bill of Dustin’s cap so it falls over his forehead. “If you don’t hurry it up, we’re leaving you here and heading to the movie without you.”
“You wouldn’t,” Dustin says.
“Try us,” Steve says, shrugging as he wipes his mouth.
Dustin opens his mouth, then closes it. He’s not about to goad Steve into a dare. He’s seen how that plays out one too many times. Instead, he vows to see if this is a singular occurrence or if it happens again.
Which it does, the next week when they’re setting up for Hellfire.
Eddie’s got a bag of chips in his hands as he looks over his notes, leaning back into his chair. They’re all talking amongst themselves as Eddie gets in the zone, regrouping for the session and filling in Jeff on what he missed since he had to miss the last session for a family thing.
Steve brings a two-liter in and some red solo cups, filling it up for everyone who wants the pop. “What about you, Eds?” Steve asks, leaning against the back of Eddie’s chair.
“Yes, please,” Eddie says, glancing up from his notebook. He’s holding a chip, has been for a moment, likely too lost in his thoughts to remember he was snacking to begin with. And Dustin has the honors of watching, horrified, as Eddie offers Steve the chip. Only, Steve doesn’t take it like a normal person, he dips down and lets Eddie place the chip into his mouth.
“Thanks,” Steve says as he leaves Eddie’s freshly poured cup on the side table Eddie has next to his chair. Then he disappears back into the kitchen.
Eddie just smiles and goes back to his notebook, hand fumbling for the bag to grab another.
Dustin whips around to his companions, eyes wide and gesturing toward their dungeon master. “You guys saw that, right?”
Gareth’s eyes are narrow, but he nods. “He’s been brainwashed,” he mumbles.
“Or maybe he’s just growing up,” Jeff says.
“Eddie?” Mike scoffs. “Please. The guy’s so stubborn he’d rather die than give up his beliefs. And not sharing food is one of his biggest ones.”
“Apparently not,” Lucas says, motioning to the bag of chips Eddie’s still digging through.
It happens again when Steve comes back in to say he’s running to the store, pausing only to take the offered chip from Eddie, this time like a normal person.
They don’t even get a chance to process it before Eddie’s announcing the start of the session.
Dustin racks his brain on a way to bring it up, to investigate further, but once again, he doesn’t get the chance.
He’s staying the night at Steve’s, with Eddie and Robin, to watch movies and celebrate Steve’s birthday in a lowkey way. The four of them are relaxing and enjoying the night together, simple and quiet in comparison to the party’s usual festivities.
Steve dishes out the small cake Robin had made him, slicing and passing out plates to all three of them. He doesn’t take one for himself though. Instead, he plops back down onto the couch and practically sits on Eddie, tucking himself under Eddie’s arm.
Eddie offers a bite of his cake, unprompted and like he doesn’t even know he’s doing it.
All Dustin can do is watch as Eddie and Steve alternate bites, eating from the same slice like they were a couple or somethi–
Oh.
Dustin feels like his brain is hit with a thousand thoughts at the speed of light as it all falls into place. Huh. Okay then. He leans back into the recliner he’s sitting in, his own plate held close to his chest, and lets himself enjoy the too-sweet icing. It tastes like how he feels; happiness and wonder in the form of cake and icing.
If Eddie’s willing to share his food with Steve, then he must really love him and that’s the kind of love Steve deserves.
He feels like he could burst with happiness for his friends, for the possibilities this will open for them. Rather than express those thoughts, even if he really wants to, Dustin shoves the biggest bite into his mouth and does a little dance.
Steve laughs at him, eyes all crinkly and bright even as he accepts another bite from Eddie. Yeah, Dustin could get used to seeing Steve that happy.

january fic rec
so i figured that instead of waiting until december to make a big long post of all the fics i read throughout the year, i'd break it down into monthly recs instead. i barely read anything at all last year, and it makes me feel awful every time i think about it, so hopefully this method keeps me on track so i can make some headway on the hoard of fics i have saved.
this also helps to boost fics that might've been missed or overlooked in the chaos and carnage brought by the passage of time.
these will include tumblr fics as well as ao3 fics!
general warning: smut will be included in these so please read at your own discretion and heed any warnings and tags!

“Everyone expects a lot from Team USA captain Steve Harrington and his first alternate, Tommy Hagan, but everyone’s a bit shocked at the choice for second alternate. What do you have to say about Eddie Munson being the pick, Jack?” Steve already felt anger bubbling under his skin, the annoyance of the last few weeks finally reaching a boiling point. “Well, we all know he’s one of the best goalies out there, but it’s rare to see a goalie with an A or C. I’ll be honest, I was surprised he was chosen over Gareth Emerson, who showed us three shutouts in the last month at Boston University. Eddie’s been proving himself in the AHL, but I don’t think he’s got what it takes to get the boys to gold. I hope I’m proven wrong, but his careless attitude makes me think he isn’t leading these boys to a victory they want.” The tv in the hotel room snapped off and Steve stood up, pacing the carpeted floors with his fists clenched at his sides and a scowl.

The bow tie around Steve’s neck was choking him. It had to be made for children, but when he’d asked one of the waiters before they went on the floor, he shrugged and said they all were like that. But the lack of oxygen to his brain didn’t excuse the way he nearly dropped a glass of a half-shaken, half-stirred -yes, really- martini when the hottest man he’d ever seen walked up to the bar. He was chatting with a few people, smiling at them like he was truly happy to see them even though he was dressed like someone who was crashing the party. Steve had done a few events like this before and was never disappointed with the eye candy, but this guy was something else. His curls were perfectly maintained, falling just right along his shoulders. Did they say the hair was the curtain to the soul or was he just that enamored?

Kissing has never done all that much for Steve, if he’s honest. It’s just not really something he’s ever given much thought to before - the way someone kisses - despite the fact that he’s locked lips with plenty of people. For him, kissing has always been something nice, but not particularly special. It’s never been earth-shattering. Never taken his breath away, the way people talk about in movies and books. It’s just a way to be closer to someone, and it’s nice, but it’s never anything more than that. Then, Steve kisses Eddie for the first time, and suddenly he gets it.

The two of them continued, kissing quietly. Chrissy wondered how far she could let this go before they realized she was awake. She ached to touch herself, listening to the panting and low moans now coming from the other bed. Fuck it. Chrissy rolled onto her back and Robin and Nancy froze. She looked over at them, Robin on top of Nancy, pinning her hands above her head. The kissing sounds Chrissy had heard were clearly actually Robin working on Nancy’s nipples with her mouth–both of the cups of the negligee had been pulled down leaving breasts exposed. Chrissy sighed. Slowly moving her hand down her body between her legs she said, “You don’t have to stop as long as I don’t have to stop.” Chrissy started circling her clit with her fingers, arching her back. “Are you sure?” Nancy asked, still panting. “Does it look like I’m not sure?” Chrissy said, using her other hand to fling the blankets back, spreading her legs and making sure Robin and Nancy could see where her hand had traveled.

Just a little step and their bodies would've touched. "Right, okay… " Robin coughed a bit, going slightly backwards. " …do you want to-" She didn’t get to finish that sentence. Chrissy, in full panic of losing the only chance she might have, threw herself at her lips, kissing her. It lasted so little that Robin had no chance to answer it, but it felt like eons. Chrissy opened her eyes, watching at her. Her cold hands on her face, her lips red, slightly parted to show these little teeth Robin thought were so endearing.

It’s a cold Wednesday night in January that has Eddie turning the thermostat up and allowing the government supplied heat to fill the trailer. He glances up at the vents and gives them a quick middle finger, wondering if they bugged the place to observe him or make sure he isn’t spreading their secrets.
He doesn’t really care at this point if they’re watching though. They already held him at the hospital for long enough, poking and prodding as if he wasn’t even human. But he didn’t turn into a vampire or some shit because of those damn bats. No. The jagged, ugly scars littering his body served as a lovely reminder that he was ultimately human.
Eddie glances at a nearby mirror and cringes at his face, taking a look at the long scar running down his cheek, jaw, and neck. The Corroded Coffin guys all said it made him look metal, and he would throw in a, “Hell yeah,” before smoothly changing the subject to something that didn’t involve him for once.
He takes a finger and slowly trails it over the pale pink skin, wondering if there will ever be a day he won’t notice it.
“Eddie,” Steve calls out gently from the room down the hall.
Eddie jumps back and glances toward him, hand falling to his side and flexing uncomfortably as if he’s been caught doing something wrong.
“You okay?”
Eddie smiles and gestures toward the thermostat. “Damn thing wasn’t working for a minute there. You’d think with the amount of hush hush money they were able to pay all of us, they’d be able to give me and Wayne a better trailer.”
But Steve only crosses his arms and leans against the door frame, eyebrows raising gently. It’s not entirely accusatory, but it’s clear that he doesn’t believe a thing Eddie’s saying.
Although they’ve grown close while going through the same treatment and tests in Owen’s new secret facility, it still surprises Eddie how easily Steve can read people. More specifically, how easily he can read him of all people. “Just got lost in thought,” Eddie confesses while making his way back to his room as he sees Steve squint at the lights in the living area.
Steve steps out of the way as Eddie brushes by him and closes the door. He hope it’s enough honesty to end the conversation.
“What were you thinking about?” Steve asks, ignoring the signals Eddie is giving him.
Eddie sighs and runs a hand over his face and climbs back into his bed, quick to pull up the blanket around himself in an attempt to get some much needed warmth while simultaneously covering his scars from Steve. “Stuff.”
Steve rests his hands on his hips for a second and stares, mouth opening and closing for a moment before deciding against whatever he was going to say. Instead, he climbs into the bed with Eddie and joins him under the blanket, keeping enough distance so they’re not touching, but they can still feel each other’s body heat.
Eddie glances over at him, noticing the way the one lamp turned on in the room gives him a nice golden halo. He looks gorgeous and untouchable - exactly how Eddie used to think of him through high school and sometimes even now. The perfect golden boy. But despite the name Eddie gave to him years ago, he can’t ignore the flaws that Steve possesses, yet they somehow make him even more perfect to him. Or maybe just human.
Eddie shakes his head and glances away. He wishes Steve came over to smoke so Eddie could blame the drugs on the way his thoughts race when he’s next to him. Instead, he has to face up to his enormous crush on the perfect golden boy.
“Have any plans for Valentine’s Day?” Steve asks out of the blue.
Eddie snorts and glances at him, only to laugh harder when he sees the adorable look of confusion on his face.
Steve’s brows furrow but the edges of his lips quirk up. “What?”
Eddie pulls a strand of hair in front of his face to try to hide his wife smile. “Kind of random, don’t you think?”
Steve rolls his eyes. “I never said I was great at starting conversations. But I was just thinking about what holiday is next.”
“The worst one,” Eddie complains.
Steve turns toward him. “And why’s that?”
Eddie sighs and let’s himself go on a tangent. “It’s the one day of the year where people feel like they have to do all this shit for their partner, and the rest of the year, they think they can just get by doing the bare minimum. And people are left realizing what it would be like if their ‘other half’ actually put in an effort day to day. And then for all the single people, it’s a day where love is shoved in their face, and they have to feel bad and sometimes disgusted by all the public displays of affection going on around them and… I just hate it all. The stupid chocolates in the red heart boxes and the teddy bears and big heart shaped balloons and roses…”
“I didn’t realize you had such strong opinions about Valentine’s Day,” Steve says with a laugh.
“Well, now you do.”
They both sit in the silence for a few moments, Eddie thinking about all the other things he didn’t even touch on about Valentine’s Day that he hates, while Steve is probably taking in everything he just said.
Steve bumps his shoulder and asks, “So, I’m assuming that means you have no plans.”
Eddie laughs. “That’s what you got out of that?”
Steve shrugs and looks away with a smile.
Eddie glances at his clock and notices it’s technically Thursday now, and in these early hours, Steve will usually either silently fall asleep or he’ll lay awake in the silence until one of his thoughts has to make itself known.
Either way, Eddie knows he’ll be up for a few more hours, but he’s never regret the sleep he’s lost since they’ve made this silent arrangement.
The bed shifts, and Eddie follows Steve’s lead, laying down fully and staring at the ceiling, trying his best not to reach out for the hand laying beside his. He wonders if he should add something to the ceiling like some type of mural with stars and whatnot.
He tilts his head to the side, envisioning how it would look in the lamplight since he and Steve refuse to sleep in the dark. Or maybe it’s just Steve and Eddie’s picked up on the habit of leaving the lamp on.
“Do you think you’ll make plans?” Steve asks quietly.
Eddie turns to look at him, at a lost for a moment before realizing he’s still on the Valentine’s Day subject. He smiles sadly, “No.” Steve glances over at him and holds his gaze, expecting more. Eddie sighs and gestures at himself. “I mean, I’m not exactly what people want to bring home to their parents at the moment plus with the,” he gestures to his face and drops his hand quickly, averting his gaze back to the ceiling.
He hopes Steve will let it go and not connect the dots back to earlier.
A silence settles between them, but Steve’s gaze burns into the side of Eddie’s face. Then, he finally asks, “Is that what distracted you earlier?” When Eddie doesn’t answer he continues, “I saw you looking in the mirror, and I know you usually go out of your way to avoid them.”
Eddie wants to question how Steve noticed, but he doesn’t want to get his hopes up about something that was just passively rather than intentionally observed. “Yeah,” Eddie states simply.
The bed shifts as Steve turns on his side to fully face him. “And you really think you can’t get a date because of them?”
Eddie sighs and rubs both of his hands over his face. “Steve, who is ever going to love me like this?” He turns and continues, “Privately, yes, someone could maybe get past the scars. But in public? You really think someone is going to be proud to say, ‘Here’s my boyfriend,’ and show off me?”
“Yes,” Steve says instantly as if he has no doubt in the world.
Eddie turns away, trying not to get choked up about it. Because how can he explain to him that while it’s nice that Steve has that confidence in him, Eddie wants Steve to be the one to be proud of him. To want him like that.
“Do you think my scars make me unlovable?” Steve asks.
“No! Jesus, Steve,” Eddie rushes to say and turns to him. He reached out and lays a hand over his side, feeling the way the skin puckers under the thin t-shirt. “These are metal as hell. Hot even. They make you more lovable if anything.”
Steve grabs Eddie’s hand and slowly pulls it off his side to hold it up, the scar on it being presented out to Eddie. “And this doesn’t make you more lovable?”
“Steve…” Eddie protests quietly as Steve pulls his hand close to stare at it.
“The scars you got protecting us. You think those make you less lovable?” Steve asks, pulling his hand close enough that his lips ghost over the skin.
Eddie lets out a breath that sounds like Steve as Steve presses a soft kiss into the tough skin. He stares at Eddie with a worried look in his eyes as he whispers, “Too much?”
Eddie shakes his head, too stunned to get the words out.
Steve intertwines their hands and pulls Eddie’s arm toward him. “These scars,” he says kissing the next one on his forearm, “Are beautiful on you.” He moves on to the scar on his elbow stretching to his bicep, lips trailing against the sensitive unmarked skin and leaving a trail of goosebumps behind. “How could anyone hate these?” He asks leaving three soft, lingering kisses before shifting on the bed to hover above Eddie, still holding his hand but now against his stomach so he can press a kiss against his shoulder. “These scars show everyone what you were willing to sacrifice for us.”
As Steve moves to the scar on his neck, Eddie’s head drops back, giving him more access as he groans out, “Steve.”
“These scars,” Steve says, kissing up his neck over and past the scars, “Are exactly,” he murmurs as he kisses past his jaw and peppers kisses up his cheek, “Why I love you,” Steve finishes by pressing a kiss to the corner of his mouth near where the scar that Eddie traced earlier ends.
Eddie glances up at Steve as he hovers over him, trying to make sense of everything he’s saying until it finally clicks. “You love me?” Eddie asks.
Steve nods and squeezes his hand before letting it go so he can lightly caress his cheek. “I have since you decided to be a hero and sacrifice yourself. Which was exactly what I told you not to do by the way.”
“I’ve never been great at following rules,” Eddie breathes out and reaches a hand up to run through Steve hair. “Steve?”
“Mhm?”
“I love you, too,” Eddie confesses.
Steve smiles and asks, “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” Eddie says. He pauses before adding, “You know, one time when I was little, I captured a squirrel and it may have attacked me and left a scar on my lip.”
Steve laughs. “Is that so?”
Eddie smiles and nods.
Steve’s eyes dart down to Eddie’s lips and he moves his thumb to swipe over his top lip. “You know, I think I see it.”
Eddie debates telling him that it was actually his bottom lip, but instead he just breathes out, “Steve.”
“Yeah?” Steve asks with a teasing smile.
“Steve.”
Steve keeps smiling as he hums, “Hmm?” When Eddie huffs, Steve fakes surprise with a gasp, “Oh. You want me to find the picture for you!”
Eddie groans, “Steve!”
“Uh huh?”
Eddie huffs and cups his face. “You are infuriating.”
“Is that s-”
Eddie interrupts him by taking matters into his own hands and leaning up to kiss him. He feels Steve smile against his lip before finally kissing him back.
Steve pulls away and breathlessly asks, “So, do you think you’ll have plans for Valentine’s Day now?”
Eddie’s head thumps back on the pillow. “Oh my god.” Steve laughs. “Oh my god!” Eddie says and shoves Steve off of him only to roll over so he hovers above him. “You were trying to ask me out this whole time?”
“No, I just wanted to know your opinion of Valentine’s Day.”
Eddie gives him a light punch to the arm and smiles wide as he stares down at Steve, lying beneath him in the golden lamp light. His perfect golden boy.
“I still hate it by the way. Even if I have plans now,” Eddie comments seriously.
“Don’t worry, I’ll put in the effort year round for you and make sure to keep you away from the public that day,” Steve says running a hand through Eddie’s curls before tracing it down the scar on his cheek in a way he thought no one would be able to do - lovingly.
Eddie leans down and gives Steve a quick peck. “I’ve also got some scars on my hips I might want you to check out.”
Steve laughs loudly and pulls him into a kiss that truly makes Eddie breathless, all while tracing his hand over the scar on his cheek. And for the first time, Eddie learns to love the scars adorning his body.

Eddie’s POV
Steve was determined to finally do something about the unspoken thing between Eddie and himself today.
He’d been thinking about it a lot lately. How the metalhead makes him feel. How down to earth Eddie is despite putting on a harsh front.
Steve notices a lot of things. Like how effortlessly Eddie fits into his found family.
His found family is an interesting group. There’s the kids and Robin obviously. But Nancy, Jonathan, Argyle, and Eddie have all become very present in his life.
They’ve started spending more time together lately, and tonight won’t be any different.
Steve shakes his head, snapping back into the reality that he’s enduring a long, slow shift at Family Video as he looks to his left to find Robin looking at him curiously.
“Earth to dingus.”
“Hey.”
“You’re kind of freaking me out.”
“Just lost in thought I guess.”
Robin purses her lips and crosses her arms as she leans against the counter. “Wanna talk about it?”
“I um, I think I’m gonna talk to Eddie tonight.”
Robin sighs in relief. “Finally.”
“Hey!” Steve laughs.
“I’m shocked neither of you have brought it up yet. It’s so obvious!”
“No it’s not!”
“Please, last week you practically ended up on top of each other.”
Steve rolls his eyes, but she has a point. They’ve grown really close lately and it’s reached the point where he’s going to go crazy if nothing comes from it soon.
He thinks about what he could say or do tonight to make sure Eddie knows how he feels, wasting away at the rest of his shift before going home to get things ready for everyone to come over.
They end up playing games tonight. No one being surprised when Nancy claims victory in practically everything before they’re sprawled out in the living room, Steve and Eddie cuddled up on the couch together as Steve runs his hands through his curls.
Robin looks over at him and they make eye contact. He knows what she’s thinking. He feels Eddie tense underneath his touch but quickly rubs his shoulder to soothe him.
He wonders what that might’ve been about.
Eventually, the others leave so it’s just himself, Eddie, and Robin since he’s their ride home.
He drops Robin off first, walking her up to the doorway to tell her goodnight and give her a hug.
Robin turns to him as soon as they’re out of the car so Eddie can’t hear, “You still haven’t talked to him.”
“I know. I’m taking him to the diner we like just up the road.”
“You better tell me everything tomorrow.”
“Of course I will. Love you Robbie.”
Robin rolls her eyes, but the small smile painted on her lips gives her away. “Love you too, dingus.”
Steve grins at her before turning back towards the car, climbing back into the drivers seat and smiling as he looks at Eddie through the rear view mirror.
“Am I playing chaperone or are you gonna get your ass up here?”
Eddie chuckles as he climbs out and onto the passenger side, taking Robin’s spot. “You’re such an asshole.”
“Oh, I’m aware.” Steve teases.
They drive to the next town over, stopping at their favorite diner. They order a large plate of fries and a chocolate shake that Steve insists on sharing.
Steve blushes as Eddie flirts with him effortlessly, keeping his cool as they fall into a rhythm where he gives back just as good as he gets.
What he’d give to have more time to spend with just Eddie.
He’s hoping that he’ll get that after tonight. That is if he plays his cards right.
Nothing against Robin or the others, but with Eddie it’s different. He’s pretty sure he hasn’t felt this way about someone since Nancy.
He sees the way Eddie looks at him. He knows he’s not much better and that it’s probably obvious. There’s something there. He just needs to be brave enough to finally say something about it.
Steve cracks a stupid joke as they enter the trailer park, his cheeks glowing pink as Eddie laughs before turning to smile widely at him, his eyes glistening in the dim starlight.
As they park, Steve makes a point to run to the other side to grab Eddie’s door for him, seemingly leaving him flustered.
“What a gentleman.” Eddie says as he steps out.
Steve smiles softly, letting out a small giggle as he walks Eddie up to the door.
Eddie turns to him as they make their way onto the porch. “Tonight was fun.”
“It was.” Steve responds with his smile growing wider.
As Eddie turns to open the door, Steve reaches his hand out to grab Eddie’s.
It’s now or never
“Wait…”
Steve presses their lips together in a hurried but gentle kiss, suddenly wondering if maybe he’d read everything wrong when Eddie doesn’t kiss back.
“I- I’m sorry…” Steve starts.
Eddie huffs out a laugh and shakes his head, reaching out to cup both hands around Steve’s face as he pulls him in for another kiss, a little more heated than the last.
Steve feels the tension fade away as he melts into Eddie, eagerly kissing him back.
As Eddie pulls away, he breaks into a grin, kissing Steve’s cheek quickly. “Don’t be. Goodnight, Steve.”
Steve reaches for Eddie’s hand and gives it a quick squeeze. “We should do this again sometime. But like… actually call it a date.”
Eddie squeezes back. “We should.”
“Goodnight, Eddie.”
Steve feels himself float as he heads back to the car, grinning as he turns back to wave goodbye while getting back into the drivers seat.
He sees Eddie shake his head as he waves back and sees him standing on the porch watching him as he drives away.
The drive home passes quickly as he feels himself bubble over with excitement, eager to get home and to tell Robin everything.
He’d made it a point to do something about him and Eddie today. And he’s glad he did.

IM BACK AND BACK ON THE STEDDIE GRIND 💪💪 Drawing these two after SO so long is legitimately so therapeutic—
I wanted to draw them in outfits based on this “create an outfit” trend going around Twitter! I had so much fun dressing them up LMAO
