Maximus arrives at the Federation office looking like a walking corpse. He's not too far off from one, if what Bad and Foolish said was true. Well. At least not yet, he isn't. That's what counts, he reminds himself.
There's a bear there, dressed in a lab coat and a little purple bow. She's not sure if she trusts it. It's probably not going to be the one operating on her, at least. They had workers that weren't machines.
They stared at the floor. Not much else to do until the nurse arrived to usher them into the examination room.

Good. At least there was that. Maximus closed his eyes and let himself drift off again. He needed, deserved the rest after everything he'd been through.

Maximus stirred a wake a lot sooner than she felt like she should have. Her stomach ached, and with each breath she could feel something tug lightly against her bandaging. Stitches, maybe?
The thought didn't bother him as much as it should have. He was probably still somewhat out of it from the drugs. Thank god they were at least as effective as they needed to be.
They weren't sure that they wanted to be awake for whatever had happened to them. Well... at least this time, they only hurt where they knew they should be. No evidence of anything malicious so far.
He opened his eyes, still groggy, and scanned the room to see if Elena was still present. Luckily, thank god, she was.
"It... it looks like a success?"
It was all he needed to know before he could let himself rest.

The tissue surrounding the now empty area in Max's abdomen twitched for a few minutes after his uterus's removal, not unlike a bug still moving post-mortem.
After a while, things started to heal up as normal. The most noticeable change was the disappearance of the green marring her skin, although that healing didn't seem to quite reach her hands.
It seemed to have actually worked.

Maximus looked sickly, to the least. The flesh surrounding his uterus was a dark brown, stained with the same black and neon green splotches that covered his hands and dotted his skin.
It writhed.
There was no question about which organ the parasite had decided to latch onto. It was built for habitation, after all. After this, however? It seemed utterly unsalvageable.

Oh. Maybe... maybe things weren't going to be as awful as the last time. Elena seemed nice. Soothing, almost.
It might be because she spoke French. He couldn't be help but be reminded of Pierre every time he saw someone talking in it.
"No, no. Thank you."
Then, she went under.

This was the worst part. Carefully, Maximus got back up and changed into the hospital gown. It was rough, papery. It scraped against his skin with each miniscule movement. At least it wouldn't last forever.
She laid down and waited. First would be the IV, then, once she was out, she'd be cut open and examined. Vivisected.
They closed their eyes. Would anesthetic even work on them anymore? They were getting further and further from normal, it might not even do anything. Or... it might fuck them up even more.
That was a problem for the future, though. They tried to take deep breaths and calm down.

Maximus nodded. What she was saying made sense. If it really was the thing causing all this, getting rid of it should help at least a little bit. It certainly wouldn't have this continue, at least.
She could live like this. Maybe. It was better than death.
"Got it, ma'am." He stood up, careful, and prepared to follow along. His recovery might be... what? A few days? A few weeks? A month? Hopefully not too long. He didn't know how long Trumpet would last without him.
He tried to have faith.

Ah. Well.
Elena was right. He'd only come in because he'd thought his time was running out, and, well, if she was near certain of it, and he might die anyway, they may as well go for it.
"I'll- Let's do the surgery." They couldn't quite sign, but... their doctor seemed compassionate enough to make things as painless for them as possible.
Then again, this was the Federation.
"I'd like- uh, anesthetic? That."

Shit. That was probably the last thing Maxo had wanted to hear. There was something even more... violating about the fact that it wasn't just a regular sickness. There was something living inside of him, feeding off of him, changing his body to better suit it.
"Oh. Hopefully... hopefully it's not that bad." That was really all she had. Hopefully the doctor was wrong, hopefully she was just iregularly suck, Hopefully she wouldn't die. She was starting to get tired of hoping.

Max fidgeted with the film on the examination table. At least she wasn't planning on doing anything drastic without getting to the source of it. At least, even if the question felt terrifying.
"Yeah?" She looked down at the floor. "It's sort of spiraled, but... I'd say so?"

Hearing a doctor call something "fascinating" was surely a bad sign. Max wasn't even sure if they wanted to ask what it looked like. It would only really make things worse to know just how fucked up their body had become.
"Um..." She didn't know where to even start. "Nausea, pain, just... a lot. Recently I haven't been able to sleep, and I... I don't know. Bad said my code was being altered, something like that?"
He shook his head. This was probably a bunch of useless information to the doctor. Nothing made sense.
"If it helps, uh, at first I thought it might be a pregnancy?"

Nothing abnormal so far, at least from what Maximus could glean from Elena's reactions. Then again, he'd never seen someone seem so excited to look at his blood. Maybe she was just coded weird.
Still, she nodded along. Her arm hurt still. She could feel blood dripping down her arm, even with the bandage over top.
"Hopefully it's not too bad?"

"No, I was healthy before this." Maximus shook his head. It was a shame, really. Everything had been ruined in an instant.
"Some... potions? That's it." Bad said it might've made it worse, hadn't they? She hoped not. Maybe she could've had more time with her family, but... that was too close to blaming Pierre for her to feel comfortable continuing that thought.
This wasn't anybody's fault. The potions didn't do anything, good or bad.
"I don't mind at all." They were good with blood tests, at least. Never fainted when they had to get their hormone levels checked when off the island.

The place was stark white, bright flourescent lights in the ceiling only compounding the harshness. Max wished he'd brought his sunglasses with him. They'd probably make him remove them anyways, though.
They sat down on the chair. The protective film crinkled as they got situated. It wasn't too far off from a normal doctor's visit, if only they ignored the thing providing them care.
"It's been going on for a few months, I think?" She stared down at her hands. It had had to have been months at this point. It certainly felt like it, at least. "It... it's from one of those codes. The monsters."

Elena. Huh. At least this one appeared more outwardly friendly than any of the other worker robots.
Max was right, she'd be away from her home for more than expected. It was always so efficient here, one thing after another after another, with none of the usual breaks in-between. That's was just the result of the robots, she guessed. No need for downtime when workers don't need it.
"Alright." Maximus nodded.
He wondered how Trumpet would fare without him. He hadn't taken Dan's disappearance too well, but... this was different. He was getting help, just like Trumpet had wanted him to do.
