He’s unsure of what, but something had drawn him back to the land of the living, a realm he had no business interfering in anymore, for his time had long since come. He and Xehanort both were no longer a part of this world, and yet, something drew him back from the final world, and the young keyblade master would soon see the result of such a surprise return.
Wherever Riku was, was not where he was before, now in some sort of library, a private study perhaps, with large shelves filled with books, large windows letting golden sunlight in, and a chess board set up near one of those windows, with a young man waiting patiently on one side, casually tossing a pawn up and down in his hand.
“You seem lost... are you a new apprentice here?”

Riku was young for a Keyblade master. He’s well aware of that. He also knows he has an unconventional outlook. After all, he can’t see darkness as an inherent evil (not when he’d been so intangled with it), though one does need to learn not to let dark emotions control them.
Well both Master Yen Sid and Mickey were unbothered by his differences, though he hadn’t really talked to Aqua about it yet. He didn’t want to remind her of what happened in the Realm of Darkness just yet. His other friends didn’t seem to mind it that much. Still he found himself wondering what a fellow Master who hadn’t taught and spent a lot of time with him would think. Maybe, given how much he traveled he’d eventually get his answer, not that he was sure he wanted it. Best just to ignore it and try to figure out what was making feel so uncertain about the safety of the worlds.

“Two of those I was particularly bad at growing up. Especially patience.” He laughed, making his move which was probably the bad one, not like he’d know really.
“I used to get really frustrated playing it to be honest.”
To be fair, Terra was at a point in the game where there were no ‘good’ moves left for him, but, Eraqus chose not to act on it, meant the two could chat for a little longer.
While he could put Terra’s king in check, he simply settled for moving his bishop around. Delaying the inevitable. “Believe it or not, I did too, it was even more trying with Xehanort would act like he didn’t have me cornered, but really did. Not everyone starts out a Master.”

“To be fair, neither am I. Xehanort used to beat me all the time.” The boy shrugged, scratching his head, he felt bad, he was playing circles around this guy.
“Chess is all about strategy, patience, and a lot of persistence.” He folded his arms over each other and leaned back to watch Terra make his move.

Dead was what he was, but he lived on in the hearts of those he was connected to. Though his presence with Terra was strongest, there were lingering pieces of himself within Aqua and the slumbering Ventus as well. Much like with Terra though, it hurt to see Aqua like this, Eraqus felt partially responsible, placing such a terrible burden on her shoulders before all these tragedies struck, and then her being lost in the realm of darkness for so long.
And this was the result.
“I want to speak with my apprentice. Will you not look me in the eye, Aqua?”

She almost didn’t want to look upon him. Was this her conscience getting to her?Showing her things that would make her feel terrible? Why should she after everything she’s been put through? How could she possibly live yup to the impossible expectations of everyone surrounding her?
She was only one person.

her head titled for a moment. she knew him well enough — even if she wouldn’t admit it. aqua has been very good at telling other people’s emotions… it was a perk that she liked to keep to herself.
though, she knew the man could be stress, and tried. he sure looked it. Aqua has been training far enough to know this day that was coming up was important. everyone was getting stress over it. Terra… and herself more then anything. she had high hopes that Terra was going to be master, and she would place everything on it. Aqua knew very well she wasn’t strong enough, — but only this day could be able to tell. though she had no worries.
smiling lightly for a moment, she stared over at the other for a moment.
“ … hmm?” she hummed lightly and looked at him for a moment. “ —- I feel as if I am ready. I know, very well I want to prove to you — with all your help training, I will one day become a Master. It’s stressful, I won’t lie —- but I know I always have to give it my all in order to prove myself. and even if I don’t past, I will always understand, that — that we will always be training in life. No matter what.”
He nodded, it was comforting to hear Aqua say she would become a master with such conviction. Perhaps he had nothing to fear after all, but still, worry is what he did, the three of them were just as much his children as they were his students, and much as he wanted to simply say Terra and Aqua bore the mark, the burden was on him as their teacher to be sure they actually showed mastery.
The mark of mastery was more than just showing you could swing a keyblade or cast a spell, it was also demonstrating a mastery of one’s heart.
Aqua clearly had nothing to fear, she accepted that even if she didn’t make it, she would still give it her all, and that was admirable. But Terra had a history of taking failure personally.
“Yes, truly, in life there is always something new to learn, that is very wise Aqua.”

“Do not be sorry, young one.” Eraqus responded, softly, calmly, setting a damp cloth on her forehead, cold water to cool her head. “There will be time to learn such things later, for now, I simply want you to focus on getting better.” He could hear the sound of Ventus and Terra shouting down the hall, seemed the pair were having a hard time finding the right medicine. It was clear that of the trio, Aqua was the mother hen, and it seemed the two were at a loss without her.
Much as he wanted to help them, he couldn’t in good conscience leave Aqua like this.

Aqua made a weak chuckle. The only cure spell she knew how to use was one to heal in battle if Terra, Ventus, or herself got seriously hurt. Anything else? She was useless in sadly. She sighed. This was so unfair. She was supposed to be taking care of Ventus and Terra, not the other way around. At least Master Eraqus is around to keep her company while the other two go to fetch stuff. “I guess offensive magic, aside from Curaga is my forte Master. I am sorry.”

“Hmm?” The master looked over, seems his efforts to mask his feelings had not been as effective as he had hoped.
The time of the Mark of Mastery exam approached, Aqua and Terra had been giving it their all, but, Eraqus had his concerns. This test meant the world to those two, their hopes pinned on showing the mark together. Would his apprentices show mastery of their hearts, what would happen if they did not? They along with Ventus were as thick as thieves but, what if failure tarnished those bonds.
As a mentor, he was worried for his students, as a caregiver, he was worried for his children.
“No, it’s alright.” He spoke calmly, stroking his chin in thought as he gazed out the window of the study. “Aqua... how do you feel? Do you feel you are ready to undergo the test?”

“You looked worried, is there something I can help you with Master?”
now she would normally never sneak up on the other like this,
but something on his face didn’t sit right at the moment. titling her head
for a moment, the woman couldn’t help but exhale softly. She worried
to much, and yet she didn’t know how to else to come a cross things.
“ – But it’s okay if you don’t want to tell me, I can go back to my reading.”

Breakfast sure got entertaining as the apprentices grew older. In the early days, Eraqus prepared breakfast for the two himself, now it was an assembly line of sorts. Aqua tossed the bread at the master, who caught it and split the bread into slices, he would then toss the slices to Terra who would place the bread in the toaster.
You should see them try to make eggs...

Shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that I draw a lot of parallels between BBS and the Star Wars movies. Seeing similarities between Obi-wan and Aqua, and Terra and Darth Vader. It’s funny that they would pick Mark Hamill to do the english voice for Eraqus, seeing as Eraqus and the Keyblade wielders were very Jedi-like in their presentation.
