riley didn't know what to think. edwards words still ringing in his mind as he kept his eyes locked on the other vampire. there was no way victoria could fake their love. it was real. too real. she was his mate, and he was hers. she was just using james as a placeholder while riley was dead, it made sense when you thought about it really. "you don't have to share. i'm back now, you can go find your own mate. she's mine."

"yeah, my mate." and if his tone is more than a little possessive when he says it, he doesn't even try to stop it. whatever the fuck is going on, he's not going to let some idiot newborn run around claiming to have taken his place. especially now that his reaction has confirmed that yeah, they're talking about the same woman. "i don't know what delusion you're living in, but she's mine. and i am not sharing."

"i'd hate for you to get hurt." riley frowned as she seemed scared, not even noting how he must look to unsuspecting humans, with the red eyes and the ashen skin. in any normal circumstance, he wouldn't bother too much, or he'd make a meal out of her and leave her dead on the street. but the name james had him intrigued, was it the james who thought that his victoria was his mate? she caught him off guard as she turned to run away, all rational thought leaving his mind as he decided then and there that she was his next meal, he was hungry, and she was scared. "not so fast." he spoke, as he sped to catch up with her, a hand landing on her shoulder as he stopped her from running and pulled her into an alley slightly out of view from the street.

" you try walking in these things." fuck addie's wishing her shoes weren't as flimsy as they were, a glorified piece of faux leather between her and ground, wrapped up in cheap suede to make a flat shoe. " no, that's not necessary. he's just a few blocks away," addie's tugging her phone out, cursing the dying battery but typing out a text to who she assumes is james. " i-bye." and she's turning around, cursing the flat shoes and bolting down the street, hoping vampires can't run quickly.

"ouch." riley chuckled, reaching a hand out again hoping he didn't need to once again, catch the clumsy human. "you've got a real habit of falling over, don't you?" he spoke, tilting his head at her following comment, sure, there were probably hundreds of james's in dc. it was an awfully common name, but he was intrigued. "your brother, huh? i can escort you, if you'd like. you never know what's lurking in the dark." he smiled "or who."

" that's some how worse." its too dark for her to fully catch sight of his eyes, so addie does something stupid: she stumbles towards him, in order to catch the light better. catching herself, or at least trying to, she damn near freezes at the crimson eyes and makes a dumber decision all the more. " my uh, my brother james is waiting for me, so i better go. try not to melt, yeah?"

riley froze at the others words, his mate, victoria? absolutely not. his mind flashed back to what victoria had told him, and pretending to love james because riley wasn't here. but then what edward had said flashed into his mind. she only created you and this army to avenge her true mate, james. what was the truth? victoria loved him, didn't she? he loved her, that was for sure, and he didn't like this james guy. "your mate?" he coughed out a laugh as he screwed up his face "i don't think so, pal."

"my name is james." he replies, struggling to keep his rising temper in check as he starts putting together the pieces. if this was one of the army, so be it, but he'd said he'd created it with his mate. and james was very decently sure that he knows who that is. "i think you know my mate, victoria."

riley paused for a moment, confused as to why the male wanted to know who his mate was, and why his demeanour changed so drastically. he wanted to shout from the rooftops that he was in love with victoria, but more than anything he wanted to keep her safe, so maybe he should keep his mouth shut. "who's asking?" he responded.

"it is." but the other's next words to raise an eyebrow. it had been an odd coincidence, before now, but an army designed to kill the cullens? that's far too much to be a coincidence. "who-" he starts, his tone suddenly far colder than it had been a moment earlier. "is your mate, exactly?"

"it's pathetic, right?" riley raised an eyebrow as he listened to the other vampire speak, nodding his head as he spoke "we didn't have much of an issue, originally. we had a whole army to fight them off. now i suppose it's just us."

well now, that's oddly similar to his own situation. "really, they're still going after other vampires over that fucking human, huh?" if edward was so defensive over his little pet, he should just turn her so that she doesn't smell so good to their kind. "they're a big clan, you'll need more than you and your mate to take them down."

"they were trying to kill my mate." riley blurted out. he hadn't managed to protect victoria, but the two of them were safe and alive here and that was all that mattered to him. "all because of their pet human. which is gross if you ask me." he screwed up his face as he spoke "they did end up killing her, and me. and i want them dead."

one eyebrow raises at the disdainful way the other brings up the cullen family. "you know them, then?" and clearly it wasn't much of a positive relationship. "how'd you meet the idiots?"

"i believe you have me mistaken for freya." rebekah responded with a laugh, tilting her head as she listened to elijah speak "that's kind, but perhaps i wish they were my real memories." she responded nonchalantly with a shrug of her shoulders "life was simpler as a human."

"for what? being the meanest sister in the world?" elijah teased as he looked over at his younger sister. he didn't blame her for her words nor her actions. he certainly was not about to hold it against her. "i am not expecting you to apologize, rebekah. i know that your memories were not your real ones. i do not fault you."
