deeply believe that caleb, jester and beau have a book club where they gather once a month in the salon in the tower, dress up nice, pour some fine wine by the fire, and take it in turns to read each other the worst erotica they could find that month and then vote on whose was worst

You’ve heard of golden retriever boyfriend, get ready for opossum boyfriend: lives in the trash. Will eat anything. Looks like he bites. You’re pretty sure he faked his death at least once.

Good Tropes™
[Orders enough food for several people] and whatever you guys want
‘Sorry I’m late’ ‘You’re right on time’
Two characters having a conversation while on opposite sides of a wall/door
The hero is snooping some place they shouldn’t be and is about to get caught. The baddies enter and the room is completely empty. Bonus points if they then show the hero clinging to the ceiling
Someone turning up in the nick of time to save the heroes in a car/plane/spacecraft/etc and asking ‘need a ride?’
Someone tells a (true) story and it is later revealed they were one of the people in the story
‘Get down!’ *tackles them to the floor*
‘Hi [name]’ *immediately begins escorting them out of the door/hangs up on them* ‘bye [name]’
Character walks past a doorway and sees something strange, carries on walking for a few steps, then realises what they just saw and backs up for another look
Someone charges at another character who dodges it by calmly stepping to the side. Bonus points if the charging character carries on through a doorway
A has been delivering a monologue for quite some time and when they are finished B slowly blinks and says some variation of ‘I don’t understand a word you just said’
New character meets the Team for the first time, who are being their usual absurd/intimidating selves, and asks ‘who the hell are you people?’
Everyone has to leave the restaurant/bar/coffee shop and one character frantically tries to finish their food/drink before they go
’[Name], I presume?’
Random character discovers some important new evidence and has to race to find the other characters to tell/warn them in time
Dramatically putting up or taking off their hood
[Badass declaration]. Any questions?
That one character who is always coming up with new slang words and hoping they will catch on
‘My friends call me [nickname/shortened name]. You can call me [full name/title]’. Alternatively, ‘you may not call me anything’
A and B are together when A’s phone rings and they answer it. After a beat they hold it out for B and say ‘it’s for you’. Bonus points if the caller had no way of knowing A and B would be together. Alternatively, bonus points if B didn’t answer their own phone because they don’t want to speak to the caller, prompting them to phone A instead
B comes to A’s house and knocks on the door. When A answers it, they barge straight in and start talking, leaving A still standing at the door and prompting them to say ‘please. Come in’
Someone tries to shoot the character but misses and hits their hat or something instead, so the character gets angry and is like ‘that was my favourite hat!’
Character wants to know the time so they grab their friend’s wrist to check the watch they are wearing
Character begins speaking about a traumatic event that happened in the past and cuts themselves off to rephrase so they won’t have to say the specifics of the event eg. ‘after he - …after what he did’
After a tragic event, the token evil teammate/morally ambiguous ally starts helping the gang and becomes one of the good guys full time

"Kid protagonist & dysfunctional adult" really is a classic.
You've got your duos that barely have an adult-child dynamic they're just BFFs. Duos that are the first people to take each other seriously because one is a child and the other is Weird. Duos latching onto each other because of their mutual isolation but they end up making each other better. Adults who learn how to BE grown-ups for the first time through seeing this kid's needs. Kids needing more adult support than this adult's prepared to give and getting rebuffed—learning the flaws even good adults can have. Dynamics that start out with each of them treating the other as a peer and gradually shake out to be more parent-child. Dynamics that start out as child-and-adult and gradually turn into peer relationships with mutual respect. Dynamics that permanently stay somewhere in-between, because in some ways the two ARE fundamentally the same, and in some ways they AREN'T. The adult learning how to be there for a kid. The kid learning how to understand an adult.
It's good.

i LOVE the idea of "i can't win, but you can lose" in fictional confrontations it is SO fucking tasty. the human nature to self destruct and the human nature to survive by any means necessary combined at its finest.

Look, I know facile trope inversion is for weenies, but I still really want to see a JRPG-style game where the shouty teenage boy who gives long speeches about the power of friendship is the fragile healer and the girl with the gentle piano-and-strings theme song and self-sacrificing “must save everyone” attitude is the melee tank. I don’t think I’m being unreasonable here.

One day. ONE DAY I’m going to write a novel or write for a tv show and the group is going to stumble upon an enchantress’s lair or a pseudo-scientific lab or whatever the setting requires and the character we are hoping will become the main character’s love interest accidentally ingests a love potion or some equivalent, and of course all of the typical love potion hijinks ensue, the love interest acts all sweet and lovey-dovey towards the main character (bonus points if this is a grumpy-sunshine or a best-friends-to-lovers dynamic) and the main character is flustered and all that jazz, and then when it’s all over and everything gets resolved the enchantress/scientist examines the empty bottle and nonchalantly goes, “oh wait, this was mislabeled—this was a truth serum. Still makes you kind of loopy and weird, but that wasn’t no love potion,” and the main character freaks out and of course the love interest doesn’t remember anything. And THEN you’ll be sorry.

When I was little, I loved the trope of “I love them [romantically] but I can’t tell them because I’m scared they won’t reciprocate.” But you know what’s occurred to me? This trope works even better in a platonic/familial sense, because it’s so much less common to admit those types of feelings to someone.
Give me two friends who have to keep biting their tongue to not introduce the other as “my best friend,” because wow, this person really is my best friend but what if I’m not theirs, and best is such a strong word, and will they be offended, and I don’t want to slip up they’re so cool
Give me a completely platonic boy/girl duo who sees each other as brother and sister but not wanting to say so, because that’s a really unusual thing to do, and in so many movies those relationships turn into a romance, and what if people think we’re faking it to “hide our feelings,” but wow I’m really not attracted to them and they’re like a sibling to me
Give me an adult who sees a child like their daughter/son and trying their hardest not to think about them that way, because at least somewhere (if not present), they have biological parents who might love and/or miss them, and I feel like that’s disrespecting them, and anyways how do I explain to a kid (especially a young one) that I love them like they were my own, and I know I trained them and mentored them and even raised them but what if they wish they knew their real parents and just aren’t saying anything to be polite

concept: ennemies to ennemies-but-everyone's-convinced-they're-lovers
as in, "oh look, the prince has danced with every girl in the room except for her. since he would never be that rude it must mean they're in a secret relationship and try not to be together in public" and everyone is soon convinced they're secretly lovers. no no the prince is that rude. he hates her guts, she hates his.

Actually not a fan of when the Knight Protector figure sacrifices himself for dramatic effect because yeah okay his friends live but what about tomorrow when they need protecting again? Sometimes you have a duty to live.

Came back wrong this, came back monstrous that
What if they came back loving? What if they came back in love. What if the necromancy worked and you cheated death and it's everything you've ever wanted, but now they love you in a way they never did before and you cannot know if that is because they finally know the lengths you are willing to go for them, or because something in this deathless magic bound their soul to yours to guide them home and it left them no. choice.

narratives about doomed love that aren’t romantic in nature. the love between siblings who understand each other the most but are growing apart no matter how much they try to come back to one another. the love between friends whose life paths pull them apart and they never see each other again, only remembering the face of a once kind childhood. the love for a hometown that year by year becomes less and less the one that raised you until you are a foreigner in your own backyard. there was no stopping it. the love was there and it mattered and you can never come back again.

I understand the "I will die for you" ship dynamic, but what about the "I will not let you die, I will not let myself die- we will, at any cost, survive" kind of couple?
