lets take a moment to sob over joel fucking kiviranta, who scored a goal and had two assists last night to make him the avs first star of the game. i am not too embarrassed to admit that i let out the most embarrassing sound of my life before full on sobbing for five minutes after watching him come out on the ice and do the first star interview. the number of times i heard them say on the stream last night that he’s “such a hard worker” and “knows his role and plays it to perfection” and to see this. it makes me so happy for him. he deserves this. he deserves everything.

RESULTS FOR THE HOCKEY RPF: REAL YAOI OR QUEERBAIT? POLL

hear ye, hear ye! the poll results for the hrpf queerbait/yaoi survey are here!!!

this survey was created mostly as a joke but also out of a genuine curiosity about the modern hockey rpf landscape. the most popular ships at any given moment ebb and flow with the constant cycling in of new prospects, new players, new ships. so i compiled some of the most popular ones and asked you two simple questions: real yaoi, or queerbait? 215 of you answered. here are the results.

MOST YAOIFUL SHIPS

so this result really isn't surprising, but the most yaoiful ship according to the people was...

sidney crosby/evgeni malkin, with 78.6% of you saying it's real yaoi.

the second most yaoiful ship was connor mcdavid/leon draisaitl, with 73% of people saying it's real yaoi, and the third most yaoiful ship was claude giroux/danny briere, with 71.6% of people saying it's real yaoi.

i considered a ship to be yaoiful if it got more than 60% of the vote as real yaoi; by this definition, the most yaoiful ships after the top three are:

4. nicklas backstrom/alexander ovechkin: 67% real yaoi

4. dylan strome/connor mcdavid: 67% real yaoi

4. chris kreider/mika zibanejad : 67% real yaoi

7. sergei fedorov/steve yzerman: 65.6% real yaoi

8. linus ullmark/jeremy swayman: 64.2% real yaoi

so, there was actually a tie for this one.

the most queerbaity ships according to the people were...

jamie benn/tyler seguin and ryan o'reilly/brayden schenn, each with 80% of the vote for queerbait. (if i had to analyze this, the former result is because both tyler seguin and jamie benn are passé, and the latter result is because no one cares about the st. louis blues, as much as it pains me to say it).

using the same metric as before, the second most queerbaity ship was jack eichel/connor mcdavid, with 76.7% of people saying it's queerbait, and the third most queerbaity ship was nathan mackinnon/cale makar, with 67.4% of people saying it's queerbait.

the next most queerbaity ships are:

4. jack hughes/nico hischier: 62.8% queerbait

5. michael latta/tom wilson: 60.9% queerbait

OOH, THESE ARE REAL SPICY

and now, the most interesting results: the controversial ships. for this one there was another tie— however, one was slightly yaoiful, while the other one was slightly queerbaity.

the most contentious yaoiful ship was...

mitch marner/auston matthews, with 50.2% of the vote for real yaoi.

the most contentious queerbaity ship was...

tyson barrie/gabriel landeskog, with 50.2% of the votes for queerbait.

these contentious ships can thus be sub-categorized into contentious real yaoi and contentious queerbait.

the next most contentious yaoiful ships were:

4. nolan patrick/travis konecny: 56.3% real yaoi

2. brady tkachuk/tim stutzle: 54.7% real yaoi

3. carey price/p.k. subban: 54.9% real yaoi

5. jeff carter/mike richards: 57.7% real yaoi

the next most contentious queerbait ships were:

3. leon draisaitl/matthew tkachuk: 52.6% queerbait

THE WRITE-IN ANSWERS

so i also included two free-response questions: one where you could write in your favorite ships that weren't included in the poll (aka complain to me about the ships i completely forgot about), and one which was a complain box, where you could write about ships you hate.

by far, the ship most mentioned in the "most yaoiful ship not included" question was mat barzal/tito beauvillier. my islanders haterism blinded me from this one, sorry folks, you're right!

some more common ships were sidney crosby/alex ovechkin, joel farabee/morgan frost, dylan larkin/zach werenski, and erik johnson/gabriel landeskog.

as for the complain box...

most complains were about mattdrai; lots of you think that ship has completely sailed, apparently.

many people also dislike kane/toews, and i got a lot of "trevor zegras straight man" answers. ive compiled some of my favorite hater answers below: to everyone who left a response, ily! thank you for participating!
