No matter the situation, Dorian always managed to remain calm and logical - it was one of the best things the military taught him. He watched through the scope of his rifle, methodically scanning the streets for anything that could be identified as a potential threat.
Dorian lowered the rifle, deeming the infected to be a low risk threat for the time being. He set the gun carefully on the floor next to him and looked towards Sam as he spoke.
“Long as we don’t draw anymore attention, they should move along.” He replied, nodding in agreement, “No- was close, but not that close. You aren’t either?” Dorian returned the question, scanning Sam’s face.

Close calls: Sam & Dorian.
Where: Second floor of an abandoned house, a few hours from Sanctuary. @marksmanmaddox
Sam’s heart was still racing as he scanned the open street that lay abandoned and empty below them. The infected that the two had narrowly escaped from could be heard screaming a few streets down as they frantically searched for the meal that had escaped them.
“Fuck” he said as he took one last look at the street before turning back to face Dorian. “They’re close, but we should be safe… for now at least.” he continued, taking off his backpack and sitting down with his back against the wall. “You’re not bitten or anything right?”

“ That’s true, but we have to think long term as well as short term. As we are right now, we’re fine on beds- but if a family walks in tomorrow, all of a sudden we run into problems. ” She really didn’t get how Sam had dealt with this for so long, she had only been running the day to day of Sanctuary for a few months, and she was ready to tear her hair out. “Even if it doesn’t have electricity, we need somewhere where people can spread out. ”
He considered what she had said for a moment, “Realistically, I’m thinkin’ we’re going to have to shift our focus on runs to getting building supplies, nails, etcetera. We might have to send out larger teams to transport heavier equipment and cannibalize abandoned buildings; since the process will take longer they may need a guard as well.” Dorian explained, scratching his beard as he spoke. “If we have the materials and everyone does their part, we might have a pretty good shot at throwin’ together another building.” He was hopeful that they would be able to rebuild, but was all too aware of the risk involved going outside of the walls.

Faust squinted up at the man, not letting his expression betray anything just yet. He and Dorian didn’t know each other all that well- had barely interacted at all really. Not that anyone was to blame for that. He supposed Dorian could be another of Bobbi or Sam’s friends- one they sent to try and cheer him up or boost his morale. Or maybe he was just a guy who genuinely wanted to chat. Who could say?
He let his gaze trail up Dorian’s body, then slowly back down. He exhaled a slow puff of smoke. “Jesus, what Uncle Sam poster did you spawn from?” he nodded to the spot on the grass next to him, indicating for the other man to sit, “At ease, soldier.”
Tumblr media
Dorian cocked an eyebrow as he watched the other looking him up and down, a small chuckle leaving his lips as he moved to sit on the ground next to Faust, resting his elbows on his knees. “One that was definitely printed before you were ever born. Not much of a soldier anymore though.” The man replied, gesturing vaguely to the world around them.
“Not usually one for introductions but I figure if we’re going to all be surviving together, might as well know everyone.”  He admitted, with a shrug. Dorian had never been much of a people person, so making friends was never his strong suit. “Name’s Dorian, was a marksman in the military pre-outbreak. What about you?”

an imperfect actor
Starter: open
Location: a grassy patch near the burned down house of 103
Summer. The perfect time for…well, not much, really- in Faust’s opinion. The only thing Summer was good for was wearing ugly button-up shirts. Unfortunately he only had one of those left; he suspected that every bisexual, enby, and middle-aged father had snatched up all the available Hawaiian shirts the minute the apocalypse hit.
Well, he’d wear the hell out of his shirt anyway. It already had a few holes in it, but it was nothing Bobbi wouldn’t be able to patch up. Probably.
Speaking of, Bobbi was the only reason he was currently sitting outside “soaking up the sun”. She’d told him he was looking a little too pale. He’d made some snarky comment in response that had earned him a thwap to the side of the head- he couldn’t quite remember what he’d said. But it’d been enough to get him off his ass and get him outdoors.
He was sitting on a patch of green grass that had sprung up from the ashes (literally), just next to 103. The grass was a bright patch of green amidst the ashy, grey, desolate reminder of what had happened several months prior.  Hey, where else were you gonna kick back and relax?  Faust cracked an eye open when a shadow fell over him, squinting up to try and see who was blocking his sun. He took the cigarette out of his mouth (one of the last he had stashed) and said on an exhale of smoke and a forced smile:  “Hey.”
Tumblr media
Summer. More specifically, an American summer. After returning home from war it was the small things like specific seasons that one begins to appreciate. Summer in Afghanistan was two things, hot and dry; for four months out of the year, even the nights are warm, so not even dusk can soothe the sweltering heat of the desert.
Dorian had always enjoyed being outside no matter the weather, he liked listening to the sounds of nature and feeling the breeze caressing his skin. Today was no different as he wandered though Sanctuary sporting his usual combat boots, cargo shorts and a slouchy black muscle shirt with dropped arm holes that showed off his relatively toned figure quite nicely. He was also wearing a pair of ray-ban style sun glasses that he had managed to keep safe since before everything went to shit.
Seeing Faust outside enjoying the sun, he figured he ought to say something, considering that the two had barely ever interacted before. He walked over to the other, his large figure completely overshadowing that of Faust. The smell of the burning tobacco made his mouth water, he swallowed hard before speaking, “Enjoying the sun I see? You definitely look a bit too chipper to be sitting next to the torched corpse of a house, a beach might be better suited to your aesthetic.” He chuckled, a soft grin lighting up his face momentarily as he attempted to break the ice.

It was one of the few dreams that didn’t seem to haunt him, that didn’t make his skin crawl or his voice scream or make the world seem so much emptier. This was your wedding day, a perfect day. When he thought about it, relived it in his dreams, it was as if it happened just the day before. From the second he saw you walking down the aisle towards him to your first dance together as a married couple. You took his breath away, tears bleeding into his gloves when he wiped his eyes. The proud smile he wore, beaming at you, wondering how he convinced you here, to marry him in the first place, when he was him, but you were you. Perfect in every single way. He still remembered the way you held him, whispering to him under the music, too distracted by the love of your life to notice the song was ending and the crowd was cheering. This was the one dream that, though sad, could also bring a smile to his face regardless.

Dorian walked into the town hall for his daily check in with Bobbi, it seemed that the two had been spending a lot of time together since the horde came through. If she needed something done, Dorian was the man to do it, and lately he’d been helping with patching the walls and finding specific things that they needed when he ventured beyond the walls. The man sloughed his rifle off of his shoulder and laid it down on a table before leaning back against it and facing the woman. “While I definitely think we can sort out the electricity issues, I think building a proper house that will survive another winter might be more of a pipe dream than a reality.” He hummed, his tone flat but slightly amused as he glanced up at lights.

“ Okay, so- we’ve got the harvest in, so we’re good on food. ” Bobbi marked off a box next to ‘food’. “ And the well seems to be full after all the snow melted. So we don’t need to worry about water, any time soon. ” A weight seemed to be lifted from her shoulders as she ticked off another box. “ We just need to get the walls reinforced, fix the electricity in the infirmary and… ” She glanced around, looking at the dim lighting inside the Town Hall. “ here, and… build a whole new house. Honestly, we’re not in as bad a shape as I originally though we were. ”

- In the destroyer's steps there spring up bright creations that defy his power and his dark path becomes a way of light to heaven -
They had survived the winter, but the spring wasn’t kind. The hoard had brought more problems than he knew how to solve, and despite making important sacrifices for the good of the group, Dorian still couldn’t wrap his head around why he was so bothered by the things he’d seen. The things he heard. It wasn’t the first time he had seen someone be ripped apart, whether it was by flesh eating monsters or bullets, it was all the same, but this time it was more personal. Not only had the infected destroyed their walls but it destroyed their peace of mind as well. Not to mention the fact that he had helped Rooney rescue an infant. This was something that hit too close to home for him. The baby was too painful a reminder of the life that had been snatched away from him.
The weeks after the horde left Dorian spent his time scavenging, hunting and avoiding his feelings, even sometimes opting to sleep in the forest when the thought of returning to Sanctuary made him feel sick. With their stockpile returning to normal, the man began spending more time in Sanctuary, helping to rebuild the walls and opting to take extra guard shifts to keep his mind from wandering too far into the past. Dorian was beginning to burn himself out, but he needed to rebuild the life they had lost, even ensuring the safety of the others was the last thing he’d do.

Dorian was well aware of the coming horde, he had been there, watching from the wall as Faust and Perry- well, Perry’s body, had arrived. The familiar rush of adrenaline he always got from life or death situations coursed through his veins. He knew full well that they didn’t have much time to prepare, the hoard was coming, whether they were ready or not. Dorian skirted along the outside walls of the Sanctuary, patrolling for anyone who may not have gotten in the bunker and was in need of protection.
When he circled back around he came up to the wall, staying concealed by the trees as he observed the girl trying to help people over the wall. “Stupid” He muttered to himself, knowing somewhere deep down that those people weren’t going to make it whether she had helped or not. He had a decision to make. His eyes went to the top of the wall, seeing the children standing there, their eyes welling with tears as they watched their parents struggling to scale the wall. “God fucking dammit,” Dorian mumbled under his breath, jogging away from the tree-line and up to the wall.
He could tell that the people were panicked, and if he wasn’t careful, the situation would spiral out of control. “Ok, we’re going to do this fast, and we’re going to do it in an orderly fashion. Anything you don’t absolutely need, drop it, the extra weight is going to hold you down.” The male spoke with purpose, his voice in full military mode, where it sounded more like he was barking out orders than anything.
He looked to Rooney, making sure that she was ready before getting down on one knee and boosting the first person up. As the first adult was pulled over the wall, he watched as the shambling figures drew closer and closer to their doorstep, one by one, slowly moving through the trees. He began boosting a second person up, his eyes locking with Rooney’s, “We’re running out of time.” He said, the look on his face was grim, and a seed of dread seemed to sit in the pit of his stomach as the full reality of the situation became apparent to him.
Tumblr media
A horde was headed towards the Sanctuary. By the time Rooney heard, there wasn’t much time to get things together. It was apparently large enough that no aboveground dwelling was safe to hide in. Rooney could easily let the anxiety riddling her body take over her in its entirety. But that was how you died, and Rooney had no plans to die today- or any day soon for that matter. So she took thirty seconds to calm down and then she figured out her plan. First she’d check the bunker to see if it was still open. “Go,” She whispered quietly to herself. When she exited her building she was immediately hit by a foul stench that she knew must belong to them. Their scent preceded them, and with how strong it was, she knew she didn’t have much time. Chances were that the bunker was closed, but she had to try anyway.
So she ran from the front of her building and made her way to the bunker. There were others around. Some were screaming the name of loved ones. Others were gathering up things and booking it. Rooney’s thoughts immediately flew to Quincy and where he had to be. Fuck him, she immediately thought after. Then a tiny part of her felt immediate guilt for thinking it. First Quincy popped into her mind then Aspen, and she had to tell herself that both were safe somehow.  Trench knife in hand she turned away from the bunker and changed her sights on the closest exit. The wall. She’d climbed it countless times. So that’s where she started towards. But then, when she was about halfway there, she saw a group struggling. They had a number of kids with them, and it seemed like the adults were fighting to keep the kids together. No one had taken charge of their group, and Rooney knew from her time around the Sanctuary that none of them went outside the walls much- if at all.
She approached them and decided to try and help. “I’m going to help get you guys out, okay?” They seemed grateful to have someone take the lead, so Rooney continued forward. “We’re going to the wall, and we’re going to need to climb over. No panicking. No pushing. We will get everyone out. Yes?” When everyone had agreed, she turned her attention again towards the wall. The group ran to the wall, Rooney picking up a two-year-old little girl from a mother who was struggling to keep hold of both her and an infant. First one of the men climbed up and under instruction from Rooney, hopped down to the other side. “I’ll hand you the kids, watch them.” So she climbed up and pulled up each of the kids, infant included, handing them over to the man on the other side. Then came the adults. “Fuck-” She mumbled to herself watching the adults try to actually climb the wall. It wasn’t going to happen without her helping them, so she reached down and tried to pull them but still there was struggling. All of them were staring up at her, panicking and she realized they needed someone at the base of the wall to help get them out.

The horde was upon them, it had been mere hours since Perry had died and the rest of the day had been nothing but a blur. The male walked across the snow silently, a combat knife in his hand, his rifle strapped over his back. The hair on the back of his neck stood on end as he sensed something looming behind him. A shadow cast from the roof of the building informed him that he was no longer alone. An ever so slight woosh alerted him that something had been thrown and he quickly spun around, snatching the snowball out of the air and crushing it in his hand, letting the chunks fall to the ground. Dorian looked to the girl, she was obviously terrified and he wasn’t going to just leave her up there.
There was no point in him going up there since it would just get both of them stuck, so to him the solution was simple, she was going to have to jump. The look on his face asked her to trust him as he stowed the knife in its sheath on his thigh. ‘Jump down’ He mouthed, not wanting to risk any of the infected hearing him since they were in such a vulnerable situation. Dorian positioned himself beneath her, his arms outstretched and his knees bent slightly to brace for her fall.
Tumblr media
The classroom compromised, Autumn moved as quietly as possible across the roof. She had found a way through a high window in the building, and she was unsure of which direction to aim for. Hunkering down, she scooted across the snow toward an edge of the roof. There were so many infected wandering through the snow, some more hurriedly than the rest, but she had no idea where to go. Deciding that side of the building was a no go, she crawled to the other. The current side she was peeking over showed no sign of shambling figures, however the sight of someone else moving slowly through the snow below her caused a moment of panic. She leaned further over the edge, realizing they were headed toward the other side where the infected were.
Looking around wildly, Autumn bundled up some snow, aiming for the snowball to hit them in the back. It was the only way she knew how to stop them from making a terrible mistake.

For Dorian, it was just another day. He had never considered the way that the damaged wall would be affecting everyone, especially the people who had been at Sanctuary since the beginning. As he trudged through the wet snow he came upon a distraught looking Bobbi. “You doing ok?” He asked, raising an eyebrow at her, moving to lean against the wall next to her. Dorian gently put his hand on her shoulder, rubbing small circles with his thumb. “It’s ok to be scared, Bobbi.” He murmured softly, his free hand re-adjusting the rifle that had been swung over his shoulder.

resting her hands on her knees, bobbi just breathed. her body resting against the wooden frame of the wooden door leading into her wooden classroom. she could hear the kids inside, the younger ones laughing and playing in joy- and the older ones, silent in their understanding of just what happened the night before. she hadn’t been prepared to watch them, but this was her job, to care for the children as people who could do more… did more.

Dorian had been on his way to grab some more ammunition for himself and the others that guarded the wall, a soft sigh leaving his lips as he wandered into the building. Hearing the door open he turned his head, seeing a woman he had never seen before entering the room. “I am.” He replied, he didn’t take kindly to strangers, and he wasn’t the most talkative person to begin with, so she was going to have to do better than that to strike up a conversation with him.
He adjusted the rifle on his shoulder, having it rest so that the barrel faced the ceiling, his hand on the grip as he waited for the ammunition he had come for. “You come to get a gun?” He questioned, walking towards where the guns were kept and opening the locker. “What’s your preference for range?” Dorian asked, quirking an eyebrow at the woman.

one of her first locations to visit was the armory. she needed a gun. needed something in her hands to protect herself. that gang of wannabe raiders hadn’t wanted to put anything more dangerous than a baseball bat in her hands. a valid concern considering how she’d asserted her dominance over them at the beginning of their journey together. but here, here they didn’t know her. and she was going to take as much advantage of that as she could.
seeing the tall man walk into the building before she’d had a chance to even walk in the door was irritating, but she swallowed it down and stepped in the building. ducking her head to imitate insecurity, she stepped through the door.
“are you a guard as well?”

“it was definitely a group effort.” she waved off the compliments, ducking her head. “and yeah, i’ve never been a heavy drinker and i think last night was my first night getting…” she flushed darkly, vague memories of rough palms holding her own flashing through her mind. “very very drunk.” she didn’t think she’d be able to look dex in the face for quite a while- let alone charlie or emmett.

Dorian laughed, watching as the look of embarrassment crossed her face. “That bad, hey? I’m almost impressed.” He mused as he pounded the rest of his drink back, the room temperature liquid burning as it slid down his throat. “So, what did you do before everything went to hell?” Dorian asked, taking the jug of water from in front of Bobbi and pouring himself a glass as well. “You strike me as someone who might have been a teacher.” He added, glancing over at her before taking a sip of his water.

Dorian smirked watching as she rode him, his hands going up to her breasts and groping them as he continued thrusting up into her, their hips practically slamming together. The grin on her face that dared him to go further was taunting, he smirked at her; his hand wrapped around her throat as he skillfully flipped the two of them over once more, his length still inside of her. The way he choked her wasn’t to restrict airflow, but blood flow, his large hands squeezed the sides of her neck, firmly but not enough to cause any bruising.
Dorian used his free hand to move her legs over his shoulders, as he began thrusting in and out of her once more, hitting deeper inside of her than he had before. Releasing her throat after a few moments, his hand snaked down between her legs, his thumb dipping between her folds to rub her clit in time with his thrusts.
His breaths grew shallow as he pumped himself in and out of her, “Christ.” He half growled and half moaned as he felt himself growing closer to his climax. Dorian was a firm believer in getting his partner off first, and that’s what he hoped to do as he continued fucking her, the sound of her moaning and breathing like music to his ears.
