Gifts for Caregivers: Not just for the Holidays!
With the holidays quickly approaching, i have been asked by clients and family members alike what the best gifts for caregivers are this season. After some reflection about all the things caregivers do for the people they are taking care of, i made a few adjustments to my answer. There is no amount of money that will ever fully recognize the amount of stress, love, and care that any family or professional caregiver goes through each and every day. However, here are a few ideas that may help the caregivers in your life feel recognized, appreciated and pampered.

5. Nurse Coffee Mug (12 oz.)
In the words of lorelai gilmore “coffee! coffee! coffee!”
whether you go with classic stainless steel or a modern version more akin to the look of a starbucks cup, nearly every nurse loves coffee (or some other hot beverage) and would appreciate this thoughtful gift. My personal favorite is the bubba travel mug. I have the 34oz version myself and it also works great at keeping water ice-cold for up to 12 hours at a time.

Gift Idea For Nursing Home Caregivers
Question:
what kind of gift can i get for an 80-year-old woman who thinks she's going into a home for a couple of weeks, but in reality, she's going there to live?
answer:
the gift is not the issue; rather, the issue is whether you plan on telling her the truth or not. In some cases, with dementia patients, residents may hold onto certain ideas and not comprehend the complexity of their situation. My mother, for example, after being in a nursing home for nearly three years, told me that when and if her older sister, who shared a room with her, passed away, she would be ready to come home. At that point, mom was completely dependent on caregivers for daily needs: medication; meal preparation; showering and more.

@sneakers41 - i didn’t know that.
Tumblr media
I thought that the mortgage broker for the bank handled both products. I had a friend that was looking into banking jobs because she was considering becoming a financial advisor. She did not have a financial background but did have a degree and considered finding a personal banker job to get her foot in the door with a bank and eventually work her way to a financial advisor position.
In addition to a high school diploma (or equivalent) and experience in handling cash, there are other bank teller job requirements. While a college degree is not required, courses at an accredited college are often recommended. An associate or bachelor’s degree in business, math, or finance may be of value when looking to get hired as a bank teller. There are some schools that offer a short certificate bank teller education programs. Such teller training programs often teach about banking regulations, ethics, teller duties, and bank operations. Teller education programs are designed to develop bank teller competencies and to enhance customer service and math skills.
At least a bachelor's degree is needed to become an investment banking analyst. Those who complete a master's degree may find that they have more job opportunities. Employers look for individuals who have studied finance or related disciplines, such as business or economics. Earning chartered financial analyst (cfa) certification or other financial certifications may also be an asset and improve job prospects.
While you're in school working on a finance or related degree, finding a relevant internship can give you an edge over other applicants. Find internships through your school's career center or online job search sites. Find an internship at an investment bank and work so that you can secure a permanent position with the firm. Intern during your undergraduate or graduate school program, or intern after you graduate. If you are transitioning from a legal or consulting career, or have recently completed time in the army, this extra expertise can make you stand out from the other candidates.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or a related field. Sales or customer service experience preferred. Working knowledge of retail banking practices, rules, and regulations. Detailed understanding of banking services and products. Proficient in microsoft office suite (word, excel, outlook, and access), banking databases, and relevant software programs. Superb numerical skills. Multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
Bank feeds can save an enormous amount of time and increase the speed of doing business by keeping your accounts up to date. It is worth setting up yodlee feeds to understand how it can increase efficiency and cut down data entry. Yodlee works better with some financial institutions than others. Best practice is to compare the reconciled balance in your online accounting program with your online banking statement to find omitted or duplicated transactions.
Associate Degree in Banking & Finance
It is not uncommon for this type of banker to have a college degree in business, finance, economics or a related field.
Tumblr media
Often, such is clearly stated as desirable business banker requirements whenever a banking institution is seeking new candidates for this type of position. Experience in banking sales and working in other banking positions is often a requirement, as well.
A merchant bank operates like a private equity firm, and is established by raising money under the securities and exchange commission's regulation d. It requires a private placement memorandum, investor subscription agreement and a questionnaire that certifies the investor as an accredited investor who meets certain requirements for minimum income and net worth. Certain activities within the merchant bank also require financial or legal licenses. An attorney experienced in securities law can assist you in discovering which requirements apply to your plans. Most jobs in merchant banking require at least a bachelor's or master's degree in business or finance, plus the licenses required for the specific function.
Personal bankers must have a high school diploma or equivalent at the minimum. Some companies look for applicants with an undergraduate degree. An associate's degree in business management or a related field, or taking independent-study courses in accounting , math, or finance, can help an individual learn some of the technical skills necessary. On-the-job training is usually provided as well.
A high school diploma is the minimum education requirement for a relationship banker. Some banks may require candidates to have an associate or bachelor's degree, or previous banking experience. Strong verbal and written communication skills, a good head for numbers, and a friendly professional demeanor are essential for success in the job.
An applicant will need to have at least a bachelor’s degree in business , finance , or business management , as well as several years of banking experience. Typically, when looking for a branch manager, a bank will want to see experience within branches or banking centres and experience in handling cash and customers on a daily basis. The bank will want to see success in those prior roles, in order to be certain that the applicant is someone who can be trusted with this additional responsibility.
You could either choose to take the graduate route and complete an undergraduate degree in law, or in another subject and then a conversion course, before taking the lpc and getting a training contract. Alternatively, you could do a legal apprenticeship to qualify as a solicitor or become a chartered legal executive and then specialise in one of the areas of banking and finance law.
How to Become an Investment Banker
Investment banking is confusing. It has nothing to do with investments or banking. The easiest way i have found to explain this to people is to compare an investment banker to a residential real estate agent.
Tumblr media
A real estate agent represents the owner of a home. An investment banker represents the owner of a company.
At citizens bank, we are committed to the career growth of our citizens. We will support you in obtaining your insurance and investment licenses which opens up additional future career opportunities. At the same time, you'll have the opportunity to earn valuable incentives. We are citizens helping citizens bank better, and all of our team members receive specific training that strengthens the service we deliver in our branches. Here is a snapshot of six months in the life of a new licensed banker at citizens bank:.
In the hierarchy of a commercial bank , a premier banker has more responsibility and seniority than a teller, but is not considered part of the bank's management team. The position focuses on sales and the generation of leads for a range of bank products and services. These products and services include checking and savings accounts, certificates of deposit, investment fund accounts, and other products and services specific to each bank. Generally, a premier banker does not facilitate or approve any type of loan though in some instances he or she may be required to generate client leads for follow up by the bank's loan officers.
Having strong a levels can really help you stand out, both when applying for an undergraduate degree and applying for an investment banker role. Subjects such as accounting , business , economics and mathematics can really give you an advantage. You could also study a foundation, such as our business, finance and management foundation.
As more consumers continue to invest their money, analysts expect employment for investment bankers to grower higher than average at 25% through 2016. This is good news if this is a profession that interests you. In addition, the salary for an investment banker with less than one year of experience is around $75,000. That is based upon 2012 estimates, and it can vary depending on location, as well. You are probably wondering, what does an investment banker do?.
Corporate banking is all about providing a range of tailored banking services, in particular loans, to companies(rather than people) to help them run their day-to-day operations. If that sounds a bit dull, bear in mind that corporate banking is a key profit center for many large banks and has been rising in prominence since the financial crisis showed up the more speculative activities of trading and investment banking, thus making the idea to become a corporate banker seem much desirable in the present times.

let’s face it: many people are drawn to investment banking for the money. That’s why investment banker salary and compensation reports like this are one of the most popular topics on this site.
What Does an Investment Banker Do?
They do a great number of things. They help companies with mergers/acquisitions, divestitures, initial public offerings, large-scale investing in all markets (stocks, bonds, forex), etc.
Tumblr media
Really, if it has to do with large amounts of money moving back and forth, investment bankers are involved. They make so much money because it is a very complex field and the difference between doing it well and doing it extremely well can be the difference of tens or hundreds of millions of dollars - set an ipo price too low and you could lose out on hundreds of millions in cash, find an arbitrage opportunity in the bond market and you could make millions with no risk to capital.
Investment banking is a very popular career path among mba graduates. While roles such as trader and analyst are accessible to candidates from a wide range of financial backgrounds, an investment banker position usually requires the high-profile skills and business acumen that only an mba can give you. If you’re interested in becoming an investment banker, here’s everything you need to know about the role and how to best prepare for it.
A relationship banker, also called a personal banker, sells financial services and handles a client's relationship with a bank. This includes personal accounts, business accounts, loans, investments and trust management services. People who become relationship bankers should be comfortable connecting with people, good at communicating and detailed in their work. It’s a secure job with steady hours and a lot of face-to-face interaction.
In terms of travelling as an investment banker for work, travel usually depends on which part of the investment bank, your client base (more s&t) and your level of seniority. As an institutional equity salesperson, i personally travel for a total of one week out of every month. Like most people below the upper echelons, most full on global travel is infrequent as you will be locked into a regional client base. This means unless you're a huge dealmaker in ibd or the head of global sales/research at a broker, you're probably not travelling the globe.
Just about every other profession one needs to have the same passion and vigor to be an investment banker. And to be a successful one involves being well-equipped with all the happenings in and around the field. So, what does an investment banker do? an investment banker is the one who helps clients( such as, corporations or government) with three things mainly: mergers and acquisitions which involves buying and selling of companies or assets, equity capital markets in order to raise the capital of the organisation and undertake the underwriting deals and lastly debt capital markets which includes raising capital through debt by issuing bonds and other forms of debt financing.

How To Become an Investment Banker
Job descriptions november 15, 2013
for many, a banker’s job seems like the most ideal career in the world, as it involves handling other people’s money. However, it involves far more than simply safeguarding the cash entrusted to the banker and attaching a percentage for services rendered. Bankers are the mediators for investors and those who wish to sell their investments. When bankers accept deposits from a customer, they reinvest the amount in higher yield debt and equity instruments. They investigate the credit risk of customers applying for a loan. Bankers are responsible for establishing solid customer relationships, the planning and delivery of sales strategies or products and monitoring their progress.

for those interested in a wall street career, there are a number of roles that could be of interest, including trader , analyst , and investment banker. Many want to be investment bankers, drawn by the high-profile and handsome salaries these jobs offer. So what do investment bankers do?.
Brian dechesare, of the "mergers and inquisitions" investment banking website, breaks m&a banker work down into two major categories. Sell-side m&a bankers work with companies wanting to sell themselves or merge with other companies for various reasons. In some cases, companies wanting to be acquired or to merge are seeking to avoid bankruptcy or other financial distress. Regardless, a sell-side m&a banker works to bring companies wanting to sell out or merge to likely prospects, in the process putting together all deal particulars.
A banker is an individual who advises their clients with regard to financial matters. Duties concerning savings, loans, taxes, investments, and securities are all within the job realm of a banker. The banker will provide financial assistance to the client in accordance with their required needs.
Hi! my name's matt. I write about the financial industry for a site called dealbreaker. Before that, i made a living as an investment banker, underwriting convertible bonds and other equity-linked securities and selling equity derivatives to corporate clients. (i know!)
at dealbreaker i mostly write for an audience of financial industry professionals, the sort of people who would understand (but probably not read) that job description i just wrote. But since these days the workings of the financial industry are of broader interest, the planet money team thought it might be fun for me to occasionally answer questions here about how finance works. We'll start with some generic questions; amazon.com/banker-funny-coffee-mug-gift/dp/B07YMR3CWJ/?tag=satusatu4-20 if you have questions you'd like me to answer, please email planetmoney@npr. Org and write "ask a banker" in the subject line. Or ask on twitter (@planetmoney).
There are too many confusions that what investment bankers do?
whether they work in a bank or invest in a bank or where they invest. Overall, an investment banker acts as a broker between the company and its buyer. And these people are responsible for ending business deals. It is also their job to tell their customers to buy shares of a company and when to sell the shares of which company. Here you can earn a lot of money, but in this person the person is very stressed because he has to work 100 hours a week. And as a result, his salary is also in 4 to 7 digits.

What It's Like Being a Starbucks Barista
Is being a barista hard?
When i worked as a barista i would work anywhere between 12-39 hours a week, however, because i was going to university while working as a barista most of the time, i'd work an average of about 20 hours a week while going to school. The job is very flexible with your schedule. My responsibilities included helping customers inside the cafe, running a cash register, using the headset to take drive-thru orders, cleaning, heating up food in the oven, creating drinks (hot, iced and blended), connecting with customers and work well with the rest of the team. If you are friendly and have open availability to work, it can be easy to get a job.
Tumblr media
If you only can work less than 20 hours a week and are available very specific times of the day, it can be harder. When hiring, most cafes look for baristas who can work for at least 6 months to a year.
13. Espresso shots? Sure, let's DO this shit.
I absolutely love this machine and the smooth and tasty espresso shots it makes. I've tried both types of espresso pods as well as the milk pods. I hid the machine from my husband for 2 weeks before i finally let him try it, because i wanted it all for myself and didn't want to order more before the next shipment. I'm almost out, and will most definitely be purchasing the milk pods also.
Tumblr media
My one and only issue is that you can't customize anything - you do not get to choose the color of your machine, you cannot only have one kind of coffee sent, you get both roasts (cremoso and puro) even if you don't like one of them, and i can't add on the milk pods so i have to order them separately and pay shipping.
In a perfect world i would give you all the shots of espresso, extra steamed milk, and pumps of sweet flavor your heart desires. However, i can’t. Not only could i get fired, i also don’t really want to give you more steamed soy milk when you’re standing in front of me, clearly drinking your latte, then informing me that, “it’s a little light. ”.
I am 2001 starbucks barista mug obsessed with iced lattes, and i've been trying to perfect my iced lattes to come close to imitating what i get at the coffee shop for almost a year now. I splurged and got a breville espresso maker and although it was better than my nespresso i was still not able to mimic to the taste enough to make me stop going to the coffee shop. Espresso shots generally are never going to be as good as espresso shots from a restaurant grade espresso machine, and combine that with the fact that i was just using skim milk, it just wasn't good enough.
Great baristas are essential to the success of any coffeehouse or bar, as many customers will return for the great service and, most of all, a perfectly brewed coffee. Baristas usually operate commercial espresso machines by preparing and pulling shots. Preparing the shot refers to the grinding of the beans and the dosage amount in the drink. Baristas are usually trained and notified of specific guidelines to follow depending on the drink. At times, more experienced baristas can even experiment with their own styles of preparation.
Job Duties and Tasks for:"Barista"
The barista provides world class hospitality to all customers of the bistro, including residents, staff, family members and visitors. dear three bean cafe,
your job posting regarding your open barista position really caught my eye. As a capable multitasker with great customer service skills, i believe i would be a strong addition to your team. Crafting the perfect cup of coffee is something i am very passionate about. My thorough, detail-focused attitude means i am committed to getting rich shots and flawless foam every time. The job posting mentions that you are seeking someone who thrives in high-pressure situations, and my previous experience with making coffee during the morning rush has prepared me well to perform quickly and consistently even when lines start to reach the door. I am able to easily divide my attention between tasks without sacrificing drink quality or customer service. Even under pressure, i love to set the tone for a patron’s stay at the cafe by creating a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. I pride myself on my ability to remember the names and orders of every regular, and i always provide service with a smile. Coffee brings people together, and i am happy to be part of that process. I hope you’ll agree that my qualifications are suitable to your needs. I would welcome an opportunity to speak with you about how i could bring my attention to detail and warm personality to the three bean cafe. Thank you for your consideration.
What Barista Skills Are
So you are a barista? perfect. This alternative milk is oat based meaning it isnt overly sweet or excessively heavy. It is fully foamable putting you in total control over the density and performance of your foam so you can showcase your latte art skillz, (sorry we mean skills).
Tumblr media
Looking for a career that combines your strong customer service skills with your love of espresso? wake up and smell the coffee – you could be a successful barista. Baristas spend their days whipping up various espresso-based drinks per customer request in coffee shops, restaurants, or even bookstores. Baristas often work in fast-paced environments, so it’s best to be a quick-thinking multitasker who can handle stress and interact with sometimes unruly or demanding customers. If you’re the artistic type, even better: some shops might ask baristas to use cream or frothed milk to make attractive designs on a drink’s surface before it’s served. Some baristas are employed on a part-time basis.
The barista basics training program provides the initial training for a newly hired barista on essential skills and knowledge required to the barista role at starbucks coffee company. Through the use of simple and intuitive tools, skills are taught through one-to-one delivery and on-the-job training. It is a highly effective learning experience for a new barista that quickly enhances confidence and competence in delivering customer service.
If you are the type person who loves the smell of fresh coffee and enjoys meeting new people then you should consider looking into the career of being a barista. You may find that you excel at it, however don’t expect perfection to happen in day or two. The best baristas have refined their skills over a number of years. It takes time to learn how to be a professional barista and how to make exotic flavored espressos that customers want, to work the machines and be able to deliver consistent flavored coffees.
The work of a barista is a physically demanding work, which requires that you be on your feet for a prolonged period of time. Therefore, asides being physically fit, the requisite skills to become a successful barista include:
an outgoing personality
the ability to work under pressure
ability to be creative, intuitive, and work independently.
I will always be grateful for the opportunity i had being a barista for 2 years. You obtain so many skills that will help you in life in ways you may not expect!
but my all time favorite is the knowledge and skills to make a yummy drink in the comfort of my home. My all time favorite kitchen necessities is the mini espresso machine in the coffee corner. I’m not going to lie it’s not as great as using a full espresso machine with a “proper” steam wand. But with the knowledge i gained over the years i have been able to apply that into getting nearly perfect foam for my oat milk latte.
Some barista jobs involve handling the register and the espresso machine on the same day, sometimes within the same five minutes. What Is a Barista?
The value and volume sales of plant-based milk (coconut, almond, soya, rice and oat milks) in the uk increased by more than 10% from 2016 to 2018 and continues to rise due to consumer demand. People are looking for non-animal based products due to health reasons such as intolerances, animal welfare concerns and increasingly, awareness of the impact of dairy and meat on the planet. The big mover has been oat milk, with uk sales increasing by 80% in two years (£12 million to £36 million from 2016-2018) according to mintel. Oat milk also happens to be the dairy alternative that baristas seem to prefer. Ishen paran, uk general manager at oatly , says that “we’ve previously seen the success of the plastic bag charge and phasing out of plastic straws and you could argue that 2019 was the year which saw a seismic movement towards being more mindful of the impact of food and drink production, not just what it’s eventually packaged in. Last year, the dairy alternatives category grew by 13. 5% globally, which we believe is primarily due to an increase in awareness from consumers that the purchasing decisions they make have a direct impact on the environment. ”.
Being a barista trainer or any type of trainer in general sounds cool and all. But i think its completely unfair. Training brand new people is not easy, its much more stressful than a normal day, and much more draining. After 4 hours of straight training with one ten, im exhausted, and still have 4 hours to go. Come payday, my tips are only about third of what i actually worked because of all the training i did, and my paycheck isn't any bigger. The majority of the drinks that get made by who im training go out to customers, especially when training pos. Watching the customers throw money in the tip jar to make the new guy on register feel more welcome and we don't even see any of it is disheartening. Am i the only one who feels this way? i think its totally unfair.

In the first three games, it is unclear if the barista is the same character that appears in the café in every game. In rhythm tengoku , a human woman is seen working behind the counter, but the actual barista refers to themself as a dog. In rhythm heaven , when the barista wants to talk, a dog that appears many times in the games will appear on the cafe icon in the cup. However, in the cast list, this white dog is just referred to as "dog". In addition, the barista (identified specifically) is always offscreen: the speech bubble points to a location past the bottom screen. The barista also mentions how they've had a dog for eleven years now, and that he's getting a bit "long in the tooth".

my first real job, besides babysitting and helping out friends, was at the local community college bookstore. About a year into my grand career there, i was transferred to the coffee shop within the store. That’s when i discovered one of my great passions in life: coffee. It brings us together. It comforts us in our time of need. It tastes great with cake and it made me into the woman i am today. Wow, coffee does all that, you say? yes, it does, let me explain. After working over 3 years as a barista, i learned a lot of things, from how to say “thank you” in sign language to the proper way to hold your hands if you’re taking up belly dancing. Seriously though, being a barista taught me so many things that i never would have learned in a classroom and i know will help me in my career and life in general.

I love my barista job. I’ve always wanted to work at a starbucks, but it was one of the many few challenges i had to face getting this job. When i first applied for this position, i got no replies from all the store managers. I waited few months until i got my first interview. The interview went smooth, and i got all my paperwork done, ready to work.
Barista! is a fast-paced coffee creation game. Can you fulfil all of the orders and get to the end of the day before your jim fires you?
jim is your mean and grumpy boss. He has issues—not entirely, it has to be said, his own fault—and unfortunately he tends to take it out on his employees through his draconian three strikes and your fired rule.
Naturally, a lot of shops do want to hire people with coffee or food service experience. They already have a feel for the pace of the job and know how to work in a fast environment while providing exceptional customer service. One coffee shop owner i talked to recently said he’s pretty strict on hiring people with experience because they have a feel for these things. However (there’s hope!), he said he’d take someone with no coffee experience but with a great attitude over a skilled barista with a sour personality any day.
Origin
from barista (“espresso-server”), the -a having been misinterpreted as the italian feminine singular ending -a, and then substituted with the masculine singular ending -o to specify a masculine, rather than feminine, agent noun.
Learn More about barista
If you’ve met a barista lately, you might not think this attribute applies. Well, we get great at faking it. I’ve always been a little shy, and i don’t care for most people — especially when they’re making small talk. Being a barista is so much small talk. I had to learn to be nice.
"fear is the path to the dark side," - these were the ominous words from yoda in star wars. Just like learning the ways of a jedi, becoming a barista requires the perfect blend of talent, training and confidence. If you can't work confidently then this fear and stress will affect your technique and you'll fall victim to the dark side of the force, or rather, the dark side of coffee.

While we operate independently from the fresh business, we remain part of the grupo bimbo (gb) family working towards shared goals and maintaining the same high standards. Gb continuously strives to be a highly productive and deeply "humane" company and strongly believes that the associates of the company are core to its success.
Confections of a closet master baker can be an abrasive, no-holds-barred memoir about the dark and impersonal underbelly of hollywood, at times. At others, it is a poignant reminiscence and heartfelt cookbook by a woman who still mourns her mother. I wouldn't call it "hilarious. " this memoir is sarcastic and unapologetic about it.

Baker's interest in gardening led him to local radio and tv appearances in the detroit area. He eventually became a frequent guest on dinah shore ’s daytime tv show, dinah’s place. The exposure he received from his dinah’s place appearances prompted him to write his first best-selling book, plants are like people, in 1972. Baker also began the national craze of talking to your plants with the publication of his second best-selling book, talk to your plants, the following year, in 1973.
Trivia
in the first jerry's workshop event, there was a bug in which the baker actually stood inside of jerry in the event area. If you stand on the table and click on the top of the bakers hat, it will take you to the fear mongerers shop. If you look at the baker's hitbox using f3 + b, you'll see that the top of the hat is not inside the hitbox. Going into the fear mongerer's shop may be due to the fear mongerer having a taller hitbox than the baker.

The baker program in real estate was the only non-mba program i applied to. I was accepted to several top mba programs , but ultimately chose the two year master’s degree in real estate for the following reasons:.

The terms hiking, trekking, and backpacking, appear in numerous places throughout the online world — and it often seems as though they are being used interchangeably. So, are they all just the same thing? or are they actually referring to different activities?.
Backpacking is the outdoor recreation of carrying gear on one's back, while hiking for more than a day. It is often but not always an extended journey, and may or may not involve camping outdoors. In north america tenting is common, where simple shelters and mountain huts widely found in europe are rare. In new zealand, tramping is the term applied though overnight huts are frequently used. Hill walking is an equivalent in britain (but this can also refer to a day walk), though backpackers make use of all kinds of accommodation, in addition to camping. Backpackers use simple huts in south africa. Trekking and bushwalking are other word used to describe such multi-day trips.

When are we NOT hiking?
It goes without saying that you’ll need a tent that can handle the number of people you’ll be backpacking with. What many hikers forget, however, is that you may want a little extra space for wet gear, or the dog. What i’m reminding you of is that plans change. You may want to buy a bigger backpacking tent than you think you need.
Why? because you might want to use it to go hiking with the spouse, some friends, or maybe you will just want extra space on wet days.

A healthy body is a happy body, and one of the best ways to stay healthy is to get plenty of exercise. Hiking is an economical way to increase your activity level, while offering a plethora of health benefits. Start slowly, especially if you are a bit out of shape. Invest in a sturdy pair of hiking boots and do your research first. Many hiking trails are rated by intensity, so get a hiking guide and start out at the level that is right for you. Get your doctor's advice before hiking if you are pregnant or have any health problems, such as heart disease or diabetes.
The variety of hiking boots and hiking shoes has exploded in the past decade as designs become increasingly specialized and borrow from other categories like trail running shoes and approach shoes. The good news is that there are more choices than ever, but that also makes the selection process more difficult and confusing. Many people cope with this overwhelming variety by finding a shoe that they like, and then sticking with that same model year after year. But perhaps you are curious about the new shoes out there, or, horror of horrors, perhaps your go-to shoe or boot been discontinued. Here’s a guide that outlines your choices and helps you narrow down the selection a little.

Think of it as an easy way to support free hiking guides for everyone. Use your gear at home first on a simple walk and get used to it before you take it out on the trail. Unboxing and setting up at the trailhead is usually a recipe for bad times.

10 essentials (or ten essentials)
an ever-evolving list of "essentials" that everyone should take on every hike, in case of an emergency or if they get lost and need to spend an unplanned night out. The list usually includes map and compass, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), extra layers, fire starting materials (lighter, matches, tinder), snacks, first aid supplies, illumination (flashlight or headlamp) and various camp tools (knife, axe, trowel). Check out my ultimate backpacking checklist for a full list of overnight essentials.
For a beginner backpacker, the task of gear selection is usually the most time-consuming, certainly the most expensive, and unfortunately also the most frustrating—it’s very easy to go down the rabbit hole here. To make this process easier for my clients, i give them a time-tested gear-list template that i designed, along with examples of completed gear lists for trips similar to the one they’re going to take and a copy of the ultimate hiker’s gear guide. These resources should help cut through the noise.
Hiking & backpacking is really a four season activity. My observation is that there are three seasonal categories of backpackers--those that go out only in summer; those that go out in three-seasons; and those that go out all year around. A person can backpack in the same locations, for the better part of three seasons, with pretty much the same gear (see seasonal gear lists link above).
My mum is my minimalist backpacking
nemesis. I love her, but if i took everything travelling that she wanted me to, i’d need a sherpa to help me get around. Mums are protective by nature, meaning they want you to stay safe and be covered for all eventualities on the road. The problem is that it just isn’t feasible – especially when you’re trying to cut down on your gear.
What Is Thru Hiking? Thru Hiking vs Backpacking! All You Need To Know
Talk of the silk route soon sparked the birth of the hippie trail – a route extending from europe to india. This is the moment in history when the idea of ‘backpacking’ really began to emerge. With the cost of air travel unattainable by the average “jo blow” or young university student – westerners were excited by the notion of travelling overland by local transport, walking trails and hitchhiking.
Five miles is a good backpacking trip for a beginner. Find a trail near you by visiting your local outdoor outfitter. These stores are most often staffed by people who enjoy backpacking and can provide you with valuable advice on destinations. Once you've got a 5-mile trip under your belt, why not look at the pioneering honor and make your next trip a 15-miler? if you make it a 15-mile hike, you can also count this backpack trip toward the hardest requirement of the hiking honor.
The best cameras for hiking and backpacking are much more affordable than you think. From compact and mirrorless to waterproof options, this post covers all the best options for your next hiking and backpacking adventure!
whether you’re snapping the perfect shot from the summit of a snowy peak, or capturing the action from among the vibrant colors of a european street market, it’s no secret that any trip involving hiking or backpacking is guaranteed to take you places that boast truly breathtaking views.
I’m not an ultra-light enthusiast, i like to bring extra luxuries with me when camping and hiking but i do get the appeal of bringing a light load. Reducing the amount of weight you bring backpacking you’ll be more comfortable and save energy. Ultralight and lightweight backpacking are pretty much the same thing but with different weight distinctions. A lightweight backpack will have a base weight of 20 lbs or less while an ultralight backpack will have a base weight of or 12 lbs or less. The same concepts apply to both.
Philip werner frequently asked questions
if you have a hiking or backpacking emergency and lose consciousness before you can signal for help with a satellite communicator or personal locator beacon, you’re out of luck unless you’re with a partner who can activate it on your behalf. The same holds if you carry a satellite communicator or personal locator beacon but can’t reach it because it’s buried in your backpack or not within easy reach. This is one of the biggest limitations of backcountry communications for solo hikers if you need to contact search and rescue for assistance in situations where cell phone network access is unavailable.
Ultralight backpacking has become all the rage, with hikers going further and lighter than ever before. Because of this, a few cottage companies have begun making packs suited just for this purpose, incorporating the wonder fabric dyneema — formerly cuben fiber. Hyperlite mountain gear sits at the pinnacle of this trend with its meticulously designed dyneema products. The 3400 southwest pack is no exception, making for an ideal ultralight hiking pack which can also be used as an everyday, every-excursion hiking pack, coveted for its light weight at just over two pounds.
Nena stands for northeast everglades national area, and refers to a greenbelt of natural lands stretching between lake okeechobee and the atlantic ocean through palm beach and martin counties. In 2004, the loxahatchee chapter of the florida trail association officially opened a hiking trail along this greenway. It’s now one of the more popular backpacking destinations in south florida, the ocean to lake hiking trail.

Best daypack overall for comfort & functionality
msrp: $120
weight: 1 lb. 10 oz. /1 lb. 9 oz. Capacity: 22l / 20l
pros: comfortable, padded/ventilated back panel, supportive hipbelt, good pocket arrangement, helmet clip for commuting, good value for the price, durable
cons: heavier than some other daypacks, hipbelt isn’t removable
bottom line: the osprey talon 22 (men’s sizes) and tempest 20 (women’s sizes) provide an exceptional balance of comfort, convenience, and functionality. Our favorite feature of these packs is how they form to our bodies. With cushy hip belts, padded shoulder straps, and ventilated back panels, the talon and tempest ride very comfortably on the trail. These packs have plenty of room for a full day adventure and convenient storage compartments to keep our gear organized nicely. Other than that, we think the talon and tempest are excellent.

Descriptions of service sebae provides the following services under the auction flex & hibid trademarks: integrated web service (for auctioneers), internet bidding (absentee, online-only, & webcast). You can learn more about these services in the following sections. Hibid internet auction platform & web service description sebae provides the hibid (formerly bidopia) internet auction platform & web service ("hws") under the hibid trademark as a software solution for auctioneers wishing to extend the audience of their live auctions to the internet. The hws provides various features including internet absentee bidding, internet-only auctions, and webcast auctions. The hws is able to changes its appearance to coincide with the website that it is powering. Accordingly, the hws powers the www. Hibid. Com website as well as numerous auction flex customer websites. This ability to change appearance is a feature of the hws. Much like internet merchant account providers can host a secure web page for a vendor to easily process payments, the hws hosts certain portions of the auctioneer's website to easily enable advanced features such as internet bidding. Internet absentee bidding internet absentee bidding allows you to place a bid for an item in advance of an auction. This allows you to place bids on lots without actually attending the auction. Internet-only auctions internet only bidding allows you to place a bid for an item prior to the auction lot closing online. In an internet-only auction there is no live auction. Webcast auctions webcast auctions allow you to bid in real-time against other bidders or place pre-bids prior to a lot going "live". Lots are sold in accordance with the auctioneer's terms and conditions which are accessible from each lot's page. It is your responsibility to read and accept the auctioneer's terms and conditions prior to placing your bid. When you place a bid you are agreeing to be bound by the auctioneer's & sebae's terms and conditions. By placing a bid you are entering into a legally binding and enforceable contract. Please keep in mind that you are bidding against other internet bidders as well as floor bidders, phone bidders, and regular absentee bidders (this list does not constitute a complete list of bidder types but does highlight the common bidder channels). The auctioneer, at their discretion, can approve or deny bidders. The auctioneer reserves the right to accept or deny bidders for any reason. Prior to approval the auctioneer may contact you to determine your credit worthiness. If the auctioneer approves your bid, the auctioneer will then process your bid in accordance with their terms and conditions. Should your bid for a lot prove successful, the auctioneer may contact you to arrange for payment & shipping (if applicable). If the auctioneer required registration via a credit card, the auctioneer reserves the right to process your winning bids to the credit card provided during registration. Sebae, through the auction flex & hibid products & services, facilitates the internet bidding process between the auctioneer & the bidder. Sebae is in no way a party to the transaction. Because sebae is not a party to the transaction, you accept that you will have no claim or cause of action against sebae in respect of the sale (or non-sale) of any lot. If you have a dispute with an auctioneer or another user of the service with regard to the sale (or non-sale) of any lot you agree that sebae, its officers, agents, employees will not be liable for losses (including, but not limited to, loss of profits, special loss, indirect loss and consequential los), costs, damages, liabilities, claims, demands and expenses of any kind arising out of or connected with such dispute. You also accept that none of the aforementioned are under any obligation to take any action to resolve any dispute between you and an auctioneer sebae is not responsible for any typographical, pictorial or technical errors in information about lots on the site as provided by auctioneers. Sebae does not evaluate lots and does not act as a specialist or expert on any related subject matter. Sebae makes no warranties or representation of any kind or nature with respect to lots (including but not limited to representations or warranties as to the accuracy of description, genuineness, quality, authorship, attribution, provenance, period, culture, source, origin or safety). If you have any questions, e-mail the auctioneer directly. In particular, make sure that you understand the auctioneer's payment terms and shipping terms. Bidding the service requires you to login with your username and password prior to placing a bid on a lot. Making bids with false information or with stolen credit card information is prohibited and illegal. Your user name and password are required in order to place internet bids. Making bids in a false name or with an invalid or stolen credit card is prohibited. Each bid carries the computer https://www.amazon.com/auctioneer-humorous-coffee-mug-gift/dp/B07YYVNM2Q/?tag=satusatu31-20 coding of the internet provider which allows the individual user to be traced and sebae may at its discretion release this information to enable legal action to be taken. Sebae may, in its entire discretion, refuse or remove bids where it suspects that bids contravene this prohibition. By placing a bid, you are making a binding and irrevocable offer to purchase the item at any price up to the maximum bid amount you submit. If you win, you must complete the transaction, subject to any contractual right or other right at law to rescind the contract in certain circumstances. Failure to complete transaction without lawful reason is not only a breach of your contract with the seller but also a breach of this user agreement. The amount bid can be increased but cannot be decreased. The auctioneer may, at their discretion, allow you to withdraw and resubmit a bid in the case of bids containing an obvious typographical error. You may forward a request to withdraw a bid and resubmit a correct bid by immediately sending an email to the auctioneer, however, there is no guarantee that any bid will be withdrawn. Although sebae will use best efforts to forward all bids, sebae does not accept any responsibility for lost bids or problems with the recipient auctioneer's ability to process your bid. Moreover, sebae cannot guarantee that bids received will be processed by the individual auctioneers. Please note that sebae's role is limited to the provision of the site for dissemination and publication of information provided by the sellers. The winning bid the winning bid in an auction will be the highest bid that exceeds any reserve (if a reserve exists). In the case of equal bids, the earliest bid received will be the winning bid. If a higher bid is subsequently withdrawn or removed then the auctioneer shall have the right to accept the next highest bid. Notice of end of sale, payment & shipping after the sale has ended, the auctioneer will notify the winning bidder via phone, fax or mail that they have won. If you do not receive notice that you have made the winning bid and think that you are the top bidder, you should check with the auctioneer directly. You will make all payment for items to the auctioneer in accordance with their terms and conditions. Buyer's premium, taxes and duties if you are a successful bidder, you are responsible for paying any buyer's premium, taxes and duties (including any vat, sales tax and import duties) that may be imposed on the final price paid for an item. Accordingly, it is your responsibility to check the applicable taxes and duties that may be imposed on an item prior to bidding for it. Working with an advisor is akin to taking lion training lessons from someone standing outside the cage: the risks are all yours. If the advice is bad, the lion eats you, and the advisor finds another client. While a personal meeting doesn’t guarantee an accurate assessment, it can allow you to form a more thorough impression than what the internet and a phone conversation can provide. A person using an online dating service would not marry his or her matched partner without a face-to-face meeting. Nor should you turn over your financial future to a virtual stranger without testing your online perceptions with a face-to-face encounter.

thinking about becoming an automotive service advisor?
if you’re looking for a rewarding job with variety, this could be the career path for you. Automotive service advisors are trained in both customer service and automobile care, and they play an important role in repair shops and dealerships.
Tumblr media
Keep reading to learn all about the automotive service advisor profession, including day-to-day responsibilities, required skills, tips for success and more.
Automotive service advisors are professionals who act as the liaison between customers and the auto technicians who work on their vehicle. They identify the need for, sell and schedule service work. When taking your car in for a repair, this is often the first person you will come in contact with.
As with any career, there is a particular set of skills automotive service advisors need to be successful in their work. This job is about so much more than learning the mechanics—becoming a service advisor requires a mixture of skills.
First things first, it’s important for service advisors to have automotive knowledge. Whether they’re ordering parts, looking over documentation or communicating with technicians, service advisors use their automotive knowledge every day. Throughout their career, service advisors must continuously refresh their knowledge to stay relevant with the technological changes impacting their industry.
Additionally, having automotive knowledge plays a big role in the credibility service advisors have with their customers. If a service advisor is confident in their automotive knowledge, this will put the customer at ease knowing their vehicle is in good hands. However, if the service advisor seems unsure and lacks knowledge, this will lead the customer to question whether or not the repair will be completed correctly.
It’s no secret that being an automotive service advisor can be challenging. This fast-paced career comes with a lot of responsibility and requires hard work, motivation and a commitment to excellence at all times. For this reason, many service advisors experience stress on the job. So how can service advisors manage or avoid this stress? according to henry gelb, a uti graduate now working as shop foreman for nick alexander imports , it’s all about focusing on the things service advisors can control.

You can expect to take coursework as you train to become a medical assistant that will teach you basic emergency medical care like first aid and cpr. Emergency duties may include helping a patient who has been hurt, who has stopped breathing, or who has lost consciousness. Part of your duties in one of these types of situations is also to alert a nurse or physician immediately.

By examining the effects of various experiences on cognitive performance, we can gain a better understanding of the plasticity of the mind and brain. This understanding can, in turn, be used to develop high-quality educational and rehabilitation programs. Here, we consider two common experiences that may improve certain aspects of cognition: learning how to speak a second language (becoming a bilingual) and learning how to play a musical instrument (becoming a musician). In previous work, bilinguals and musicians were found to have increased domain-general executive control, as evidenced by superior performance on nonlinguistic, nonmusical, visual-spatial tasks that involved attending to a relevant and informative feature of a stimulus while ignoring an irrelevant and misinformative feature [ 1 , 2 ]. However, the evidence for increased executive control is mixed in bilinguals [ 3 – 5 ] and limited in musicians [ 6 , 7 ], suggesting a need for more research to confirm or deny these cognitive benefits. It is also unknown how the combination of bilingualism and musicianship affects executive control. In the current study, we investigate these issues by testing bilinguals, musicians, bilingual musicians, and controls on a simon task that assesses interference suppression (the ability to ignore an irrelevant and misinformative cue).

A spiritual gift is different from being gifted in other areas of life. Everyone, christian or non-christian, has natural abilities. What makes a spiritual gift different is that it is a gift god instills when you become filled with the holy spirit. One might have been born with an innate ability to speak in front of a crowd, but when filled with the holy spirit, they can easily teach about god's great grace.

It’s tough being a prophet. (for those who haven’t read my other blogs, my redemptive/motivational spiritual gift is prophet. Read more about it here. )what was i saying? oh right. It sure is tough being a prophet. So many times, i see truth in someone’s life and i just want to tell them. I don’t even have to know them—i can know just enough about them to see their struggles and know their pain. I don’t think i know everything, but i do know people…and i use what i know and what god shows me to see truth before it plays out in their lives. It’s a terribly awesome gift to have—if you understand how god wants you to use it. I can “see” into situations and see truth about others, which in retrospect should be a gift that brings joy not only to myself but to others.

Of course, employee gifts and kind words are great motivators, but there's often no substitute for rewarding work, and companies need to make sure they're meeting employee needs and expectations on an ongoing basis in this regard as well, inc. Noted. That means using those open lines of communication to ensure everyone has everything they need to complete the tasks at hand and keep everyone involved in the loop, while also ensuring people are empowered to work as independently as they need or want without feeling as though they're being micro-managed. This kind of balance requires a certain level of trust from employers, certainly, but when there's a good existing relationship — built on the understanding that workers will always be given what they need to complete the task at hand — there's little need for companies to be concerned that workers won't pull their weight. Moreover, when everyone is working on that same level of trust, there's likely to be more continual visibility within the company of what's going on.

Motivational gifts come in all shapes and sizes, they are meant to encourage someone, reward them for a job well done or encourage them to do better. In our community a motivational gift for a cancer patient or loved one is meant to lift them at the very moment they are the most down, let them know they are not alone in their battle with cancer in any of its devastating forms, show them how much you care and appreciate all they do or a funny saying on a t-shirt than not only brings a smile but hopefully a laugh now and each time they see a crazy image or champion type message.

They also make a great gift for yourself – there really is no better investment than in your individual growth!.
Moreover, when everyone is working on that same level of trust, there's likely to be more continual visibility within the company of what's going on.

we've all been there before -- the holidays are around the corner, and you have a long list of people to buy gifts for. Worse, they all have different tastes. Before you know it, you're buying a stack of gift cards and calling it a year. No matter who you're gifting -- a friend, partner, mentor or colleague -- a carefully chosen book can be a great gift for a peer, employee or boss. It's a way to connect with others over a shared interest, show them you've put thought into your gift and give them an opportunity to learn and grow.

Hair Stylist duties and responsibilities
Hair stylists working in a busy salon often have assistants. These cosmetologists have a state license or are working in an apprentice program under the stylist.
Tumblr media
Hairstylist assistant work includes everything from welcoming and draping a client to shampooing, mixing color and blow drying hair. Additional duties may include picking up lunch, tidying the salon and keeping organized client records.
Salon stylists perform a broad range of beauty services, from cutting hair to performing scalp treatments. Typical duties include shampooing, cutting, and styling hair, though they may also provide hair treatments, including deep conditioning, permanents, hair coloring, and weaving. Due to the number of services offered at most salons, stylists must be skilled at using a wide range of beauty products and tools.
Salon plaza member advice for independent hairstylists & salon owners
what wanda berry, owner of black hair is in oxon hill has to say about prospering as an independent hairstylist and salon owner. Independent hairstylists, being your own boss sounds great – in practice, it takes a shift in thinking and action. Ownership comes with responsibilities.
Hair Stylist skills and qualifications
If you are a hairstylist fresh from a hairdressing school, it is a better option to work in a salon. That way, you could hone your skills and clientele enough to make you more confident. Build an outstanding relationship with your clients, and they will most likely follow you wherever you go.
Tumblr media
In time, they will visit you at your own booth. Make sure to show up at the salon on time and bring out the best service you have for your client.
Hair Stylist salary expectations
A considerable amount of bad haircuts and colors can be prevented in the first place, however, by thoroughly discussing your vision with your stylist in the first place. "if you aren't honest with your stylist from the beginning, your expectations will not be met," says dueñas. If you aren't sure how to describe exactly what you want, merrie advises bringing it lots of inspiration photos to bridge the communication gap.
Tumblr media
The more references your stylist has for what you want, the more likely you are to get the results you seek.
No matter how perfect the cut and color, you’re probably not going to look 100 percent like jennifer lawrence. (after all, everyone’s hair texture is unique. ) managing your expectations ensures that you won’t walk out of the salon disappointed or, worse, take it out on your innocent stylist. Hair Stylist experience requirements
As a hairstylist and salon owner, i have had some really great moments and some crushing experiences over the last 25 years. If you are interested, here are some of my observations. Work your ass off. This means in every way. On slow days, help clean.
Tumblr media
Contribute. And always pick up after yourself. It takes a second and shows you respect your co-workers and the assistants. You were an assistant and likely had to pick up after some stylist that could have done it themselves most of the time. Respect the assistant version of you that swore you would not be a diva.

my years of hairstylist hunting have made me an unequivocal expert on what happens once your butt is in that chair. Nine times out of 10 when i've come away unhappy from a salon experience, it's in large part due to something that was in my power to control. Here are 7 dos and don'ts when it comes to talking to your stylist. Follow them, and i guarantee you'll both come away from the next appointment happy.
The average hourly pay for all hairstylists is about $11 per hour, but will vary by experience and location. Experienced hairstylists with established clientele can earn up to $20 per hour. Most hairstylists make a large portion of their wages through some combination of an hourly wage, tips and commission. You'll need to be upbeat and friendly with every client if you want to find yourself on the higher end of the pay scale.
The best way to make money as a hairstylist is to set up your own salon – however, you will have to gain a lot of experience before you will be ready for that. Be sure that you are willing to put in the time in the long term to reach your goal of having your own salon.
Anybody can have a business if you have the capital. But i would say at least get nvq level 2 and work in a salon for at least 6years also get on business courses and advice. I've seen so many salons close as the stylist /manager haven't had enough training and experience. How can lead a team of stylists without knowledge? if a colour correction comes in and haven't got a clue then your asking for trouble, and to be honest i wouldn't open a business now as it's still bad for money wise as nobody has got spare cash to get their hair done it's all going on bills.
5. They’re the worst clients
Most stylists choose to work tuesday through saturday, approximately ten am to six pm, but the beauty of being a stylist means that any day is up for grabs to be blocked off. Additionally, you can cut your workday short or shift your clients around. The flexibility is endless. When it comes to scheduling, the best thing to do is go with a service like vagaro, acuity scheduling or style seat. Each of these services charge a monthly fee but make scheduling easier and send both the stylist and client reminders about their upcoming appointments; it also allows clients to pay deposits.

i love my industry that i work in, which is as a fashion stylist. I work for high profile, corporate clients and have built that from single clients. I would say that my area of expertise is in runway production as a stylist with an eye for very outside the box views on traditional scenes.

changing your hairstyle can do wonders for your self-esteem. Lithuanian hairstylist and founder of selfstation, jurgita malakauskaitė, told bored panda that she has always had an innate sense for beauty and aesthetics and has known since her school days that she would become a hairdresser. She told us that her job is about more than just creating new haircuts: it’s about renewing clients’ confidence in themselves, giving them honest advice, and reminding women that they have to love themselves. “you simply make people happy,” that’s how jurgita summed up what she does.
Many hair salons have sent emails to their regular clients with the location's updated health practices, or closed entirely. Starting on march 18, national blowout chain drybar will temporarily close all of its locations until further notice. The previous week, when it was open, drybar made efforts to prevent spread of infection, emailing customers with a list of increased hygiene measures, including frequent handwashing, hand sanitizer stationed around the salon, tools disinfected with barbicide, and removal of unwrapped food like cookies or candy.
Most food stylists start out by working with experienced and established food stylists first. Once individuals gain enough experience, as well as an impressive portfolio, they can start taking on clients of their own. Many food stylists choose to work as freelancers. However, other opportunities exist, as many magazine publishers, cookbook publishers, and advertising agencies will hire their own in-house stylists.
Ancient hairdressing[ edit ]
hairdressing as an occupation dates back thousands of years. Ancient art drawings and paintings have been discovered depicting people working on another person's hair. Greek writers aristophanes and homer both mention hairdressing in their writings. In africa, it was believed in some cultures that a person's spirit occupied his or her hair, giving hairdressers high status within these communities. The status of hairdressing encouraged many to develop their skills, and close relationships were built between hairdressers and their clients. Hours would be spent washing , combing , oiling, styling and ornamenting their hair. Men would work specifically on men, and women on other women. Before a master hairdresser died, they would give their combs and tools to a chosen successor during a special ceremony.
A hairstylist in missouri saw dozens of clients this month while sick with coronavirus. Despite showing symptoms, the stylist went to work for over a week in may, exposing as many as 91 people to covid-19. According to the springfield-green county health department , the stylist went to work at a great clips location in springfield while showing coronavirus symptoms from may 12 to may 20. Officials said both the stylist, whose name has not been released, and their clients were wearing face coverings during the appointments.
9. They have lives outside the salon
Hairstylists are a large part of the lives of women everywhere. They start off as strangers but quickly become our friend and one of the only people we trust to tame the mane that lives on our heads. It may be difficult to understand how our hair stylist can mean so much to us with so little time we spend with them, but it’s no secret that black women have a special relationship with the person who helps maintain their look. Some of us like a talkative, say-what-you-mean kind of atmosphere, while others of us prefer a more quiet, tranquil visit to the hair salon. Regardless of what you prefer, there are certain qualities we all want our hairstylist to process. What’s most important to you?.
10. Hair is a major part of who they are
I’ve been in the hair industry for 17 years. Yes, i was 5 when i started. I live in jupiter, florida with my husband, two girls, and puppy leia. I 100% believe that coffee is a food group, and laughter is the best medicine. I didn’t go to a fancy hair school and for the major part of my career i was successful by just being down right scrappy. Until one day, i realized i had developed a few super powers. Those super powers are what have helped me build multiple 6 figure businesses behind the chair and open a salon that has been profitable from day one. That’s why i’m here to share my simple but freaking effective methods with you!.
Stores, restaurants, and schools are closed. Major events like the met gala have been postponed , and most of us are social distancing —separating ourselves in order to minimize the spread of covid-19. While california , new york , and other cities and states have placed mandatory restrictions on non-essential businesses, such as hair salons, in other parts of the country doors remain open for the time being.
How do I become a hair-stylist?
Nia long, tiffany haddish, rihanna, zendaya are just a few of the many celebrities who have been lucky enough to have #ursieonhair. But famed hairstylist ursula stephen has become much more than just the go-to beautician for some unique gifts for hairstylists of the most famous in the industry, she’s basically a celebrity herself.
Until recently, i believed conditioner to be the backbone of one's hair-care routine. It's always served as the no-brainer, post-shampoo step that softens and smooths your strands after cleansing. But when a renowned hairstylist dubbed it virtually useless during my latest cut, it made me want to investigate (aka mass-email every expert i know). The aforementioned stylist is of the mindset that conditioner really doesn't provide much benefit at all — rather, it weighs the hair down — and that diet, stress management, and genetics are the sole factors contributing to a healthy head of hair.
What made you want to look up hairstylist? please tell us where you read or heard it (including the quote, if possible).
First, the bottom line:
how much should i tip my hairstylist during the holidays?
the general rule is to double the 15 to 20 percent you usually give, says colorist sharon dorram-krause of sharon dorram color at sally hershberger uptown salon in new york city. But what if i see my stylist or aesthetician only two or three times a year?.
What we know about the springfield great clips hairstylist flap that led to shutdown
"just typical hatemongering," said an attorney for one of the great clips hairstylists infected with covid-19 when asked to describe threats against the business this week. Check out this story on news-leader. Com: https://www. News-leader. Com/story/news/local/missouri/2020/05/29/missouri-hairstylist-coronavirus-springfield-great-clips-salon-shut-down/5281967002/

Training is required to be a hairstylist. Tuition varies significantly between training programs at private technical programs and training programs at state-funded community colleges, but all programs should prepare students to work as a hairstylist in the state. On the lower end of the scale, expect to pay around $8,000 for tuition, fees and books. On the higher end of the scale, costs can exceed $20,000.
When lynnae duley first started out as a hairstylist, she says, she would have 'emotional reactions to people's hair' in public. (matthew blake)

The bureau of labor statistics of the u. S. Department of labor projects that the employment of medical laboratory technicians and scientists will increase by 14 percent through the year 2026. According to jobs rated almanac, medical laboratory science has 25 percent job growth and good job security. Among health related professions, it currently ranks third. In 2015, the median salary for medical laboratory technicians was about $41,420, and $60,520 annually for medical laboratory scientists, based on geographic location.
Tumblr media
Currently there is a shortage in many parts of the country guaranteeing employment and higher salaries for graduates.
“in result of the increasing popularity and explosive growth has generated lots of job opportunities in the field of research and development”. Scientists are majorly required in various fields like agriculture, social science, physical science, engineering, technology, space research and many others. There are plenty of job opportunities are offered to scientists in government as well as private organizations. With a research degree, you can also find jobs in india as well as abroad.
Internships are highly recommended for prospective food scientists and technologists. Many entry-level jobs in this occupation are related to food manufacturing, and firsthand experience is often valued in that environment. Overall employment of agricultural and food scientists is projected to grow 7 percent from 2018 to 2028, faster than the average for all occupations.
Training requirements for agricultural scientists depend on the type of work they perform. Most food scientists or technologists need at least a master's degree to work in basic or applied research, whereas a bachelor's degree is sufficient for some jobs in applied research or product development, or jobs in other occupations related to agricultural science.
22. Because you can't get rid of the itch to be a scientist.
Don’t pitch drunk. Reading and writing are essential, but most writers also want to publish. As a scientist, you would complete the work, draft your paper, and submit it to a publication. In science writing, it can happen that way, but more commonly, articles are pitched. A pitch is what it sounds like: a brief written proposal intended to entice an editor.
Tumblr media
It describes the article you hope to write for their publication, and why you should be the one to write it. The length of the pitch is important. Editors are pressed for time, so be brief and include it directly in the body of the email. For example, a pitch for a 1,000-word commentary for slate might be only four to five sentences, while a pitch for a 5,000-word cover story for the atlantic might run several paragraphs.
Why I Became a Scientist
Today, we can map the genome of any species and measure particles that make up all matter in the universe. We’re constantly innovating across all areas of science. We’ve reached a point in time where anyone can contribute to this progress, no matter their occupation or global location, without needing a degree.
Tumblr media
By becoming a citizen scientist you can have a hand in the next big discovery and learn things you never would’ve imagined.
You don’t need a ph. D. To be a scientist, nor do you need a lab coat and goggles. While professionals might get better access to top-grade lab equipment and funding from organizations, you can employ the scientific method to learn more about your own environment every day.

what did you want to be when you grew up? as crazy as this probably sounds to scientists reading this, growing up i wanted to be a grant writer. I was really inspired by my grandmother and she was a grant writer for the visiting nurses association (vna). When i visited her office everyone was always thanking her for her hard work and telling me what a difference she made. I loved english class and wanted to make a difference like she did.

well-suited to become a political scientist or another similar career!
described by our users as being “shockingly accurate”, you might.
You will need an extensive amount of skill, knowledge and experience to be a political scientist. Many require more than five years of experience. For example, a surgeon must complete four years of college and an additional five to seven years of specialized medical training to be able to do their job.
How to Become a Research Scientist in the US
Over time, i realized that working at the bench wasn’t a good fit for me. While many other phds might excel in a research scientist position in industry , i definitely would not.
If you're really serious about science, you might want to pursue a scientific career. Students can talk to their guidance counselors or advisors about how to prepare for this career path. With a high school diploma or a college degree, you can work for a government agency, at a university, or in industry. Whether you're tagging fish, running lab experiments , or analyzing data on a computer, you'll be contributing to the larger body of scientific knowledge. However, if you want more control over what you study, you may need more training. Typically (though not always!), scientists who want to run their own research continue their studies to complete a masters degree, a ph. D. , and possibly a postdoctoral research appointment (commonly called a postdoc), which provides recent ph. D. Recipients with advanced training under the direction of a mentor).

i had a teacher of anthropology in college, who also was a lead researcher/scientist in the anthropology field at the university. He was from south america, so we learned much about his culture through him, which was very interesting. He is one of the teachers i remember well. He was just so knowledgeable and such a great teacher. I really looked up to him and his professionalism. He was so intelligent, yet seemed so humble. He would give us difficult books that made little sense to me to read though! we would have in class study sessions, which was nerve-wracking and helpful.
Making a career as a research scientist can be the most fulfilling and life-affirming experience. Yet i have seen many students tempted by the prospect, only to retreat in short order to the relative comfort of engineering. They often interpret the pullback as a personal failure and a sign they’re not good enough. It’s never a matter of personal worth or talent, however. You need a different kind of temperament to thrive in a research setting, one that is often paradoxically orthogonal to what makes an engineer thrive.
Scientists are people who discover new things and research how things work. There are many different types of scientists. They observe, measure, and communicate results to people like you and me.
There are too many academic research scientists. According to a report by nature , the number of academic research scientists jumped by 150% between 2000 and 2012 in the u. S. Alone. But the number of tenured and other full-time faculty positions has plateaued and, in many places, declined. Of the more than 40,000 u. S. Postdocs in 2013, almost 4,000 had been so for more than 6 years.
What do research scientists do?
Political scientists are part researcher, part analyst, and part forecaster. They use their expertise to understand how policies and laws affect government, business, and citizens. They look back at history and monitor current affairs to predict trends. Certainly, political science includes the study of institutions of government, formal laws, political processes, and political issues; but it also examines public opinion, political parties, and economics. As a science, the study of politics strives to be systematic, objective, and impartial. Ideally, randomness and subjectivity are avoided and personal biases and partisan views are kept out of the process. There’s no better field to get into right now than data science. Our research shows data scientists are the most in-demand professionals in the world. And the average data scientist in the united states today earns $114,000 a year. But how do you get into it? what are the programming languages you should learn first to become a data scientist?.
If I Were A Scientist
Data scientists are a new breed of analytical data expert who have the technical skills to solve complex problems – and the curiosity to explore what problems need to be solved. They’re part mathematician, part computer scientist and part trend-spotter. And, because they straddle both the business and it worlds, they’re highly sought-after and well-paid. Who wouldn’t want to be one?.
Interested in becoming a data scientist? here are some critical data science skills that you will need in order to make the career change. For each data science skill listed, there is also corresponding advice and resources on how to improve that specific skill. This is by no means an exhausted list and instead is meant to be an overview of what you will need in order to succeed as a data scientist.
How do you become a data scientist?
i think that really depends on where you are now and what you really want to do as a data scientist. Nevertheless, datacamp posted an infographic recently that described 8 easy steps to becoming a data scientist. In this post i want to highlight and review datacamp’s infographic.
Registered scientists can be found in a huge variety of scientific and higher technical roles. They apply their skills and knowledge whilst working autonomously and have the ability to resolve problems and identify, review and select appropriate techniques, procedures and methods. Once registered, you must maintain your status through meeting continuing professional development (cpd) requirements each year. As you progress in your career and gain more responsibility and experience, you may want to apply for chartered scientist.

The current boom in data that’s going on is hugely beneficial for finding out what is going on, why people do what they do and how to either make money from that or to deliver better services. That said, it does mean that data scientists suddenly have to work with an entirely new realm of software packages and computers.
3. You will work on useful things.
A bachelor of computer science is among the most popular and competitive degrees in the job market. For many aspiring it and programming professionals, this degree is the basic threshold for entering into the job market. Typically 120 credits, this course of study will generally take a minimum of four years to complete. However, depending on your concentration and the number of advanced math and science courses required, it’s not uncommon to spend six years in pursuit of your computer science degree. In addition to introductory level subjects like programming languages, algorithms and databasing, you’ll also have a chance to study more advanced subjects like calculus, data structures, and online network architecture. It’s also important to begin to whittle down your focus as you advance in your course of study.

my grandpa was a chemist who worked in the baking industry. He developed a compound called verve (stearyl-2-lactylate) that when added to bread in the baking process dramatically improves the consistency, texture and flavor of bread. In fact, if you ate a piece of bread today, i'd be willing to bet your right arm that you enjoyed some verve. My father is a professor and chemist as well. So growing up i was profoundly influenced by my family history and the realization that through science it was possible to make a real difference in society. After spending my first two years in college exploring the humanities side of life, it was clear that my head needed something more concrete to grab on to. After my first semester performing organic synthesis research, i was hooked. It required a delicate mix of creativity, determination and attention to detail that i found incredibly challenging. Throughout my scientific journey, the driving force has remained the same- i'm here to make a difference.

what leads people to a career in science?
it’s an important question because the road to a successful career in science – as with technology, engineering and mathematics, the other stem fields – can be challenging, often requiring a ph. D. Or other postgraduate training. And once in their fields, there can be political and economic pressures with which to contend. The bureau of labor statistics projects workforce shortfalls for many science fields, though the projected needs differ across the life, physical and natural sciences.
There is no shortcut to success in the exam process. my decision to pursue a career in science was mainly influenced by terrific professors at vassar. I entered college as an english major, intending to become a writer. A freshman-year course in personality psychology changed my direction. At vassar, i worked as a research assistant for a professor studying memory. The training i received in my biology, chemistry, and physics classes sharpened my skills. I even volunteered as an assistant in my organic chemistry professor's lab, studying the properties of amber. This research had nothing to do with my career plans, but i loved the excitement of scientific discovery.
You don't have to love math and science to be a nurse, but it does provide a solid foundation for your nursing education. You should, however, be interested in the structure of the body (anatomy) and how it functions (physiology) if you want to be a nurse. There are lots of great nurses working today who will tell you, "i was never really good at math, but with lots of study, i've mastered it since that's one of the areas that this profession requires!".
How to become a Data Scientist?
Numerous studies, including our own , have come to the conclusion that python is the most important language to be learnt by a data scientist. In fact, in 2019, this sentiment is being clamoured, as almost 75% of the industry, as well as the professionals, are saying that. So beginners should focus on learning python programming for at least their first next six months and interacting with databases. Then once you have a good understanding of python and programming in general, you can then start learning other languages like r and java, then move to machine learning packages like scikit-learn.
This datacamp infographic outlines how you can become a data scientist in 8 steps. This guide is for everyone interested in data science. This post was written by the team behind datacamp , the online interactive learning platform for data science. After being dubbed “sexiest job of the 21st century” by harvard business review, data scientists have stirred the interest of the general public. Many people are intrigued by this job, namely because the name has an interesting ring to it. But it is exactly the name that also raises a lot of questions. Because what is a data scientist and what do data scientists do exactly? many of us who devote their lives to data science have frequently been confronted with questions like these.
Given recent claims that data science can be fully automated or made accessible to nondata scientists through easy-to-use tools, i describe different types of data science roles within an organization. I then provide a view on the required skill sets of successful data scientists and how they can be obtained, concluding that data science requires both a profound understanding of the underlying methods as well as exhaustive experience gained from real-world data science projects. Despite some easy wins in specific areas using automation or easy-to-use tools, successful data science projects still require education and training.

Other times sharing only a few words are more than adequate. It is not always the long conversation that conveys the deepest feelings.

Friendship isn't always easily described. The eskimos, they say, have a hundred different words for snow. Unfortunately, the english language isn't quite as innovative, though it has vast opportunities to differentiate meaning. Certainly, love is one of those opportunities. And so, too, is friendship. Instead of different words, however, we're stuck with simple adjectives. Close friend. Best friend. Childhood friend. Intimate friend. Trusted friend. Beloved friend. But whether you use adjectives or different words, few could deny the nearly infinite meaning in such a simple word.
A close trusting relationship between two people. Nowhere does the bible present a concise definition of “friend” or “friendship. ” instead, both the old and new testaments present friendship in its different facets. Two hebrew root words, r'h and ahv , are used to describe friendship. R'h denotes an associate or companion, while ahv connotes the object of one's affection or devotion—a friend. Consequently, friendship may be simple association ( genesis 38:12 ; 2 samuel 15:37 ) or loving companionship, the most recognizable example being that between david and saul's son, jonathan (1samuel 18:1,1 samuel 18:3 ; 1 samuel 20:17 ; 2 samuel 1:26 ).
Western and russian cultures have similar proverbs when it comes to the importance of distinguishing true friends from false ones. The western saying, “a friend in need is a friend indeed” echoes the russian proverb “a friend is known in a trouble” and the words of kazakh philosopher, poet and writer abai: “you can distinguish a good friend from a fake one. Fake friends are like a shadow. On a sunny day you cannot get rid of them. When it is cloudy you cannot find them, no matter how much effort you make. ”.
“the focus should not be on talking. Talk is cheap. It must be on action. ” ~ howard berman
love is a verb, and if someone wants you to know how much you really mean to them, and how important your presence and existence is in their life, they will prove it to you not just by using all kind of beautiful and colorful words, but also by making sure that they honor all those words with actions. People who love and care about you, true friends, they honor their words with actions.
What's the difference between friends and acquaintances ?
What's the difference between friends and acquaintances?
people often distinguish between an acquaintance and a friend , holding that the former should be used primarily to refer to someone with whom one is not especially close.
Tumblr media
Many of the earliest uses of acquaintance were in fact in reference to a person with whom one was very close, but the word is now generally reserved for those who are known only slightly.
“in friendshipwe think we have chosen our peers. In reality a few years' difference in the dates of our births, a few more miles between certain houses, the choice of one university instead of anotherthe accident of a topic being raised or not raised at a first meeting--any of these chances might have kept us apart. But, for a christian, there are, strictly speaking no chances. A secret master of ceremonies has been at work. Christ, who said to the disciples, "ye have not chosen me, but i have chosen you," can truly say to every group of christian friends, "ye have not chosen one another but i have chosen you for one another. " the friendship is not a reward for our discriminating and good taste in finding one another out. It is the instrument by which god reveals to each of us the beauties of others. ”.

i don’t know if i can really clear your doubt about this but i will try explaining it with my group of friends. I have a special friend. She is exactly like me, we can share everything with each other without worrying about any judgements and she can definitely help me with almost everything. We do not meet often but i know she is just one call away that too ready with the solution of my problem and if not the solution then have the motivational speech ready for me to fight with them ;).

Friendship is one of the best relationships that one makes in his lifetime. And just like any other relationship, it has its share of funny things to say about. Funny friendship quotes will definitely make you smile and think of all those friends they befit. Friends are people in our lives that never falter, leave us, or give up on us. What is a biblical definition of true friendship?
I am grateful to have friends i can get together with, and afterward feel uplifted, refreshed and motivated to tackle new challenges. That is the way godly friends affect us. Godly friends engage in meaningful conversations to clarify and deepen their understanding of god’s word (proverbs 27:17; malachi 3:16). It’s not that everything said has to be deep or profound. But with a true, biblical friendship, it never seems awkward to talk about god’s plan and what he is doing in our lives. Friendship is the state of being friends with someone. A good job, good health, and romantic love are important, but without real friendship, your life might not feel full. When we talk about friendship, we're often talking about the value of having friends, not just the fact of it. A book might explore the importance of friendship in a young girl's life. You might decide to stop working such long hours and spend more time developing your friendships, in an effort to lead a happier life. A deep friendship can last through many shifts and changes in life, as long as you write or call every now and then.
Understanding the importance of friendship and the value of friendship make grasping the meaning of friendship simpler. But friendships are far from simple, even friendships that kids begin. And both advantages and disadvantages of friendship exist that are good to consider when thinking of making new friendships. However, very few people want to go through life without at least one good friend you can count on.
The causes of modern social problems, from divorce to homelessness and obesity, are often thought to be based in areas such as poverty, stress or unhappiness. But researchers suggest we are overlooking something crucial: friendship. It would appear that our society is ignoring its importance. The philosopher aristotle said, “in poverty and other misfortunes of life, true friends are a sure refuge. They keep the young out of mischief; they comfort and aid the old in their weakness, and they incite those in the prime of life to noble deeds. ” friendships are vital for wellbeing, but they take time to develop and can’t be artificially created. No wonder they are at risk of being neglected.
n the state of being friends (or friendly)
Lovers seek for privacy. Friends find this solitude about them, this barrier between them and the herd, whether they want it or not. […] in a circle of true friends each man is simply what he is: stands for nothing but himself. No one cares twopence about anyone else’s family, profession, class, income, race, or previous history. Of course you will get to know about most of these in the end. But casually. They will come out bit by bit, to furnish an illustration or an analogy, to serve as pegs for an anecdote; never for their own sake. That is the kingliness of friendship. We meet like sovereign princes of independent states, abroad, on neutral ground, freed from our contexts. This love (essentially) ignores not only our physical bodies but that whole embodiment which consists of our family, job, past and connections. At home, besides being peter or jane, we also bear a general character; husband or wife, brother or sister, chief, colleague, or subordinate. Not among our friends. It is an affair of disentangled, or stripped, minds. Eros will have naked bodies; friendship naked personalities.
