Artist Statement: Performance Art
My goal with my performance was to keep it simple, and possibly satirize a subject.  I decided to perform pushups with a tiny toy of a man on my back.  As a control, I did a few pushups without the toy on my back, and then I stated that I wanted to up the ante and perform the pushups with a man on my back.  I figured that the audience would assume that I meant an actual man, when instead I would swerve them and use a toy man.  I would then do a few more pushups with the toy on my back, but I would exaggerate it to make it seem like a lot of wait was indeed on my back.  I definitely wanted to try to make people laugh with my performance, and from a more “artsy” perspective perhaps it could be argued that I’m satirizing muscle men and their desire to show off their strength.  The main point, however, was to swerve the audience.

Reading/Video Response #5
The reading by RoseLee Goldberg alludes to performance art as being "live art."  Forms of performance art include video, dance, slides, and narrative among other forms.  Performance art is open-ended and can be either simple or complex.  Also important to the niche of performance art is the interaction with the audience which can enhance the experience of the piece.  Performance art has a long history including Leonardo da Vinci creating river pageants.
The video "The Artist is Present" is a documentary focusing on the renowned performance artist Marina Abramovic.  The focus of the documentary is on Abramovic's piece in which she sits in a chair and audience members can sit directly across from her while she is silent and only making eye contact.  She is famous for her abstract works of performance art that challenge the mind into understanding different perceptions about art.
My take-away from the reading and video is that performance art is both abstract and open-ended.  Complexity is not essential as the goal is to simply challenge the audience to maybe think differently about a subject based on the performance.  Modern performances like stand-up comedy and professional wrestling can be considered forms of performance art.  Both have certain levels of complexity, though both are fairly simple at their core.  However, both challenge audiences and present ideas in different ways than traditional media.

I really like what you did with the voices. Cool concept!
Project 4 Artist’s Statement
There are so many unanswered questions that still exist with the human race despite our advancements. I wanted to play on the concept of the human imagination and question what we really know. Alien life is one myth/legend/idea that many humans including me have pondered and actually hoped for.
My attempts at this art video play on the idea of alien life. Scenes, sounds, and dialogue are presented in a story mode to provide a backbone to my idea.
I tend to appreciate structure so my art does not necessarily leave the viewer confused like most art videos tend to do. For me a concept must be clear or relatively understood so that the viewer gets something out of the experience.
The passion for truth and understanding is such an experience that I want to continue to promote in others especially when it comes to ever illusive beings like aliens.

I like your metaphor. Flowers blossoming and fireworks exploding. Nice.
Description
4D Art, Project 4
Artist Statement
I started with the idea of setting the audio of something our minds would recognize to visual of something different.  After some thought I settled on a series of blooming flowers set to the audio of a firework show.  I thought the mix of something so aggressive as the firework audio paired interestingly with the softness of the flowers.

I love the music. This type of music always makes me feel like I'm watching an epic movie on the Egyptians or something.

Mongol mix Artist’s statement I have created one minute video for project #4. I have create a traditional Mongolian clip and tried to create a surrealistic feeling in to it. I have included several tracks of Mongolian traditional singing: Khuumii and Urtiin Duu. I have also included clip of a dance that is originated in Mongolia and is performed by only Mongolians till this day. The other dancer that appears on the video is buddhist ritual dancer. I have used several effects from Adobe Premier Pro to make the video more complex.

Artist’s statement
I started with the idea of abstract videos and looked that up on youtube to get the video that I used for my project. I also wanted to stay with the abstract theme so I put an abstract idea with it. I decided on the question of our existence. I looked around for clips of people saying this or questions like it. Making it all flow was the hardest part. I had to figure out how to make my sound clips go together well so I decided to put classical music in the background to make it feel finished. The final product isn’t quite as good as I was hoping but it was what I could figure out with what I had.

Project 4, Vanishing and Becoming.
Artist Statement:
I believe we are what we eat and this video is an abstracted take on that issue. These days there are far to many harmful additives in our food and beverages. This work is meant to highlight the negative effects that these additives may have on us. In a world of genetically modified food there is only so much we can to change how our food is processed, but we can at least be aware of what it might be doing to our minds and bodies.

Project 4 for my Studio Art 4D class
Artist Statement:
My idea was to juxtapose the “real” issues in the world against the lighter issues of the world.  There seems to be a higher level of panic about certain global issues, but no amount of panic will stop the entertainment industry from producing content in America.  I used the “TV static” as a transition for the real issues so as to make them more dramatic.  I also feel like the music I used under the two different sections of my video added to the moods that I wanted to create.

Reading Response: Projections
This reading discussed the history of humans projecting images to tell stories from hieroglyphs and cavemen drawings to modern video and the Internet.  The main reason we project images is to tell stories.  These stories are not only meant to entertain, but to inform.  Through images people can get a better understanding of events rather than text or the spoken word.  But people have taken the concept of information through images and turned them into artistic forms that can be subjective.  They then look to project their art for as many people to see because if no one sees your art then there is no point really.
