How can I reflect on this activity? 💭

Preparing for the DSD II exam was a focused two-week long effort, in which I dedicated time to understand the exam format. For the oral component (Mündliche Kommunikation) of the exam, we had the opportunity to choose one of the two topic we would discuss in front of the examiners. I chose the intriguing topic of Sorbian language, merging my linguistic interest with exam preparation. It was fun analyzing the state of Sorbian language today, as well as the question of how to preserve it in the era of globalization. In several instances @marijamilasinovic, @marijamaliccc and I met together in Peckham pub to study and do our research together. Researching and presenting on Sorbian made the process enjoyable, adding a layer of personal engagement to the preparation.

Participating in the debate tournament was not just about winning or losing; it was about the journey of self-discovery, learning, and personal growth. It reinforced the value of effective communication, critical thinking, and collaboration in navigating complex issues and engaging meaningfully with others. As I reflect on the tournament, I'm grateful for the lessons learned, the friendships forged, and the memories created, all of which will stay with me long after the final round has ended.

A birthday trip to Miramare was a dream come true. From the majestic castle overlooking the Adriatic Sea to the tranquil gardens and beachside bliss, every moment was filled with wonder and gratitude. Exploring the castle's history, strolling through the gardens, and watching the sunset created unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime. Miramare provided the perfect backdrop for celebrating another year of life and appreciating the beauty of the world around me.

A handmade wooden house becomes a canvas for personalization and storytelling. Each design choice, color, and added detail tells a unique story. Whether it's a replication of a childhood home or an entirely imaginary creation, the finished piece reflects my personality and experiences with the dearest friend of mine.

Making Soap Bars

How would I describe this activity? Preparing soap bars for this year’s Christmas Fair during our chemistry class.

How can I reflect on this activity?

As per the tradition of Gimnazija’s IB students, this year we also dedicated some of our chemistry classes to make soap that we plan to sell during this year’s Christmas Fair next month. To produce soap, we used olive oil, food dye, coffee grains, and some other materials that we have realized would result in aesthetically pleasing and wonderful smelling soap bars! It was not only a process that allowed me to express my creativity in making the final products, but it was also educational and helped me grasp a better understanding of the chemical reactions and processes that occur in the production of soap.

It was enjoyable and as we were separated into groups, we found ourselves in a situation where we had to collaborate and act quickly in order to succeed in the common goal. @unamiloseviccc, @marijagodic, @matijamandic and I worked in the same group and we decided to make cinnamon and coffee scented soap bars and add brown food coloring so that the looks and the smells of our soap blocks presented a flawless harmony! I am very happy with the outcome of this activity and I’m eagerly anticipating the day of Christmas Fair to sell the soap bars and other creations we are yet to prepare for the occasion. All the time in the activity I felt very driven by the motivation to succeed in our ultimate aim which is to raise money at the Christmas Fair which is to be donated to those in need of it. I strongly believe this tradition is highly useful because it unites all those who participate in it, and I hope it will be upheld by the future generations of IB students as well!

Višegrad Study Visit

How would I describe this activity? Having a study visit to Višegrad as a part of our Serbian literature class to further analyze “The Bridge on the Drina.” Recreating the scenes from the famous novel through photos, videos, and animations. Learning about the historical and geographical background of the novel.

How can I reflect on this activity?

Over the course of past couple of months, we have been analyzing and examining “The Bridge on the Drina” by Ivo Andrić in our Serbian class. To gain a better understanding of the narrative and the historic background hidden within the stunning nobel prize winning novel, our school has organized a school trip to the place where Andrić’s inspiration for the novel came from. We enjoyed the postcard vistas Višegrad managed to offer to us during the wonderful weekend. The bridge over the Drina is truly a magnificent piece of history, and in Višegrad we found out intriguing information about its origin and fun facts that are nowhere else be found.

We also visited the author’s school and classroom, where the tourist guide shared with us not so well known pieces of information in relation to the town of Višegrad, Ivo Andrić’s early life and work, as well as the bridge. It was interesting to hear about Mehmed Paša Sokolović and the bridge from the local people who essentially live in the area where major historic events took place and one of our nation’s most significant pieces of art was created. It was also very enjoyable to spend time with my friends and recreate some of the scenes from the novel.

@marijamilasinovic, @matijamandic, and I made a stop motion video that represents the death of Crni Arapin (click Keep Reading), who is a mythical character described in the novel as a crucial part of one of the legends about the bridge’s building process.

Andrićgrad has also left a deep impression on me as a truly special place that offers a breath-taking sense of serenity and oriental architecture. This was my first time in Višegrad, and I certainly plan to visit it and observe its unique beauty again in the future.

Reflection:

As always, a very very fun time at the AMC BL! This time, a couple of us volunteers got a different role - being in charge this time. We actually interviewed the ones who signed up to volunteer with us.

I interviewed 7 prospective volunteers and they blew me away. They were very communicative and friendly, just what we were looking for. However, we could not admit all of them, and the competition was amazing.

I just wish we could see them all on Thursday, when our first volunteer meeting for this year takes place.

I have truly enjoyed spending a lovely evening with my dear friend Sara and learning more about poetry and our famous actors since this was not a regular theatre show but a cabaret, where actors perform live entertainment such as dancing, singing and reciting poetry. The poetry choice was perfect in my oppinion and they performed Mika Antić’s, Milan Rakić’s poems and a cherry on the top was Mina Lasarević’s performance.❤️💃

A Toy Cupboard

The whole IKEA company politics is based on creating furniture and house gadgets that are easily stored and take as little space as possible, which sometimes makes the process of installing their product in the actual house hard.

Building this toy cupboard for my younger sister not only taught me how to work with this kind of thing but also how to properly use building tools. I was very proud of my little team and how great progress we have made.

Controversial Movie Night

Barbie is a fantastic comedy that was aired on July 19th and directed by Greta Gerving. Since the whole world was in a hype about the movie, I decided to attend the premier in Cineplexx Maribor, where I was at the time.

Reflection:

Movie preparations lasted a bit longer than usual, since the dress code was all pink, me and my sister needed to get dresses and makeup.

Movie theater had a great atmosphere, and we got Barbie custom-made popcorn boxes, which basically were perfect😍 and quite expencive🙈.

In my opinion, Barbie movie deals with world’s hottest topics in a nice manner and the most importantly advocates for females in our society. I loved the history of the Barbie as a idea and brand that was evident thought the whole movie. Aesthetically pleasing set is always a plus.

I would rate it 8.5/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A Hike to the Springs of the Sana

Activity description:

After the end of the school year and exhausting pre-mock exams, I decided to participate in a two days long seminar held in a village near Banja Luka, Pecka. The seminar included a long hike to the springs of the Sana.

Reflection:

We went to Pecka by bus, and after a hour of sweating because of lack of AC in the bus we arrived at the magnificent village. The hike was led by local tourist guide. Our first stop with Mila was a vintage watermill which, to our surprise, was working. When we were close to the spring the path got a little more challenging and we had to hold ropes of a different size in order not to fall in the river and had to climb many many rocks untillll… We finally saw the spring.

Pecka has a poor phone connection, and for the first time in my life I was not able to access any of my social media for two days straight and that was one of the biggest challenges for me on this seminar.

A Trip to St. Tropez🇫🇷

Taking 10 days to explore the city of St. Tropez in the South of France and get to know the French culture. I visited the most magnificent beaches along Cote d Azure, adjusted my tastebuds to various tasty French food and drinks, and picked up a completely new hobby along the way.

*Food

Most meals were seafood based which felt quite awesome for me as a person who has meat based diet. I have experienced how it feels to drink coffee after the meal since it is healthier for digestion and it is quite opposite to what I am used to. Preferred part of French diet culture was rose wine.😋

*Leisure activities

1) 30 minutes boat ride along the coast

Many tourist take this boat ride as a source which offers loads of information about history and sight in St. Tropez and those small details only locals could actually know.

My personal favourite was mention where princess Diana spent her last summer before her death.

2) Reading “My genius friend” written by Elena Ferante

This book was very much dynamic and perfect choice for this holiday.

3) Bocce ball night

Even though my team was new in the whole game and basically played this for the first time they managed to win and we were so proud. The feeling is close to bowling but the rules differ from region to region and it is traditional game in France.🎳

CAS Project

activity title: Organizing and putting together the promotional campaign for BaLMUN

duration: January 2023 to April 2023

Activity Description

The project's aim is to put the word out that BaLMUN - Banja Luka Model United Nations - is happening this April and will gather more than 100 people from all around the globe, staff and delegates included. A team of event organizers, including me, is tasked with organizing the promotion and what will go on social media. This includes taking photos of chairs, filming and editing a promotional video of the city, filming and editing a promotional video for this conference, conceptually creating these videos, and directing them. Essentially, I will be tasked with thinking of what will be in the videos, and properly filming them. There will also be a need to create posters on the same topic.

Learning Outcomes

Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth - Through this project I will see where I stand in terms of all skills, and I will learn where my strengths lie and where I need to grow.

Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process, mainly video filming skills.

Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience - This is largely student planned

Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively - This will all be done by a team, so there is a great need for good skills in working collaboratively

Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance - BaLMUN is a conference that deals with relevant issues on a global scale, and exactly that needs to be shown not just in the conference, but in the videos and promo as well.

Reflection

I have learned how this BaLMUN team cooperates and how to better prepare for the conference, as well as what is necessary and attractive on social media. Moreover, I have learned how to create visually appealing videos and film properly, even though my only equipment was my phone and tripod. Ultimately, the goal was simple - to get as many people as possible to attend this year's BaLMUN conference.

The Week of Art

Visiting the week of art and creating content for social media in light of promoting the project on social media. Throughout the art week, students intend to promote 5 arts, theater, visual arts, poetry, music, and dance. Presenting the IB to the Students from National Program

Activity description:

This activity included making presentations and visiting homeroom classes of the second-graders with our IB DP coordinator and presenting the benefits of international schooling. After general presentation during homeroom classes, a few students have shown interest in attending our chemistry class so we decided to show them interesting experiments.
