Orchestral music fills the air from down the hall as Bdubs makes the final adjustments to his outfit. A new moss cloak was made just for this occasion, cutting off at his waist so as not to cause issue on the ballroom floor. It fits him exquisitely— Ren ensured only the best for his hand— framing his shoulders and flaring perfectly to the sides. Diamonds and emeralds glint in the light where they have been placed throughout the fresh moss. Flowers blossom here and there across the drapery, adding soft color to his ensemble.

He tugs at his corset, ensuring it is exactly in place— though he’s certain Scar will have secured it precisely as needed. His jewelry is triple-checked— Cleo’s handiwork— earrings, necklaces, and rings adorning him in riches. Smoothing his hands over himself, he pauses at a small golden chain dangling between a hook and his pocket. The watch it secures is pulled carefully out, Bdubs running a thumb over the edge. A gift from Impulse. A reminder of a past life that remains unforgotten. Perhaps too simple in fashion for this event, but Bdubs can’t bring himself to set it aside even for just the evening. He tucks it back into his pocket.

Finally, the last piece is picked up from the vanity and turned over in his hands. Masterfully hand-crafted by Etho himself, just for tonight. It is stunning, causing Bdubs’ breath to catch in his throat as he admires it once more. A mask, fitting to half of his face, modeled to appear as though a flurry of butterflies gracefully rest upon his cheek and brow. From the bottom dangles delicate silver chains, creating an artful semi-veil over half of his mouth.

With a soft inhale, he secures the mask to his face, the black butterflies pairing beautifully with the darker eye makeup he chose for the night.

Stepping back, he takes in his appearance in the full length mirror beside him. The tunic he wears beneath his corset is simple so as not to distract from the intricate silver-work dancing along the corset itself. His slim slacks match in burgundy color, with barely-noticeable silver pinstripes which shimmer in the light. A few more moments deliberation are given before, satisfied, he turns to make his way to the main event.

The serenade being played grows louder as he walks from his room down to the ballroom itself. The lilting melody piques and crescendos before quieting once more and ultimately falling silent. Bdubs stands just outside the doorway, clearing his throat softly before finally flitting onto the scene.

Casting his gaze about the room, he sees many figures, but recognizes very few— faces covered. Hidden from one another. A night to pretend to be someone different. A night of fantasy and illusion.

A masquerade.
