How We Reduce Bank Rejections with MICR Ink?
Fraud is common throughout the financial services industry and can happen in a variety of ways. MICR technology helps prevent fraud by using tamper-proof magnetic ink and unique fonts to make it difficult to alter checks. In addition, the unique fonts and positive/negative charges on each character act like security gates that can’t be bypassed.
Tumblr media
The first test of magnetic ink character recognition was conducted in 1955 and proved successful enough to be approved by the American Bankers Association (ABA) as a standard for negotiable documents in 1958. The ABA deemed that the MICR E-13B font was safe, machine readable and reliable, even when subjected to overstamping, marking or mutilation.
Today, banks use MICR technology to process millions of checks every day. This technology has helped to dramatically reduce the chance of fraudulent activity and protects the integrity of both the check and the corresponding banking institution. While many people associate MICR with checks, it is also used for other types of document processing including coupons, credit card invoices, mail and more.
Whether you’re printing just one check or thousands of them, we offer a wide selection of MICR inks and printers to ensure your business is fully compliant with the required standards. Not only will this safeguard your company from fraudulent activities, but it will also help you avoid costly errors and rejections from the bank. If you are experiencing recurring problems with your check prints, it’s important to identify the source of the problem and resolve it before it gets worse. Some common causes of MICR rejections include:

Expandable Address Line 2
If you live in a house, only the street name and number should go into address line 1. If your address is an apartment building, you should include a secondary unit designator such as "apt." or "unit" (and not the abbreviation "Apt. 204") and the number in address line 2. Other secondary unit designators you can use in address lines are suite numbers, PO Boxes and room/floor number designations.
Tumblr media
The presence of an ambiguous address line 2 field can confuse users and can cause them to stop typing during the checkout process. During testing, it was often observed that users would accidentally tab to the second address line to provide information, only to realize later that the information they entered in this field should be included in their street-level address. This can cause problems with form completion and validation errors.
In order to reduce confusion and improve the checkout UX, it is advisable for sites to hide the address line 2 field by default, requiring users to click on it in order to enter their information. This will ensure that a majority of users who do not need to input data in this field will not be distracted by it and may proceed with the rest of their transaction without distraction. It is also a good idea to incorporate address autocomplete and validation into your checkout process, which will help users by suggesting addresses as they type. This will save users time and avoid mistakes.

Customizations for Print & Mail Checks
Even as credit cards and online payments become the norm, there’s still a thriving need for people and businesses to use printed checks. Whether for business or personal needs, the right checks can help you get paid faster and save money on processing costs and mailing expenses.
Tumblr media
For business, you can choose between laser or manual business checks that include important security features like a digital verification grid and authentication, to protect against counterfeiting and forgery. Authentication is also ensured by a unique, customizable holographic pattern that blends different colors to make it difficult to reproduce with a copying machine. Laser business checks also offer enhanced check security with toner fusion, visible and invisible fluorescent fibers and chemical reactivity.
To make the most of your check mailing service, you can customize the template to incorporate your company’s logo or other personalized elements. This allows you to match the design of your business checks with your brand identity, which helps build credibility and demonstrates your professionalism.
Once you’ve chosen a template, you can order the amount of prints you need. You can choose from packs of 150 or 600 individual checks, plus additional products such as address labels and a leather check case. When you select a pack, you’ll also have the option to add CheckSafe fraud protection for an extra cost. Gusto integrates with your Checkeeper registry, pulling your approved payroll checks for easy printing or mailing.

What is Address Line 2 Used For in Practice?
When filling out digital address forms, particularly those related to shipping or billing, you may see an additional field called Address Line 2. While the first line of an address typically captures the primary street address, Address Line 2 allows for supplementary information that can help specify your location. Address Line 2 is usually used for apartment numbers, suite numbers, or other information that helps ensure accurate delivery within larger buildings or complexes. It can also include other identifying details, like neighborhood names or landmarks, that are important for mail delivery in certain areas of the country.
Tumblr media
But many users are confused about where to place information such as their apartment number. Should they include it in Address Line 2, or should they enter it in their address form’s main line (Address Line 1)? This confusion can contribute to higher shopping cart abandonment, lost or returned mail, and database-wide address discrepancies. It can also negatively impact user experience and create a poor checkout UX.
In this article, we will explore the definition of Address Line 2, explain why it’s important to include this supplemental address information in your address forms, and provide guidelines on how best to format the information for accurate and reliable delivery. We will also address the question of whether or not PO Boxes should go in Address Line 2, and offer insights on how to handle these types of addresses. If you’re interested in using Smarty to solve the problem of secondary unit designators, check out our US Autocomplete Pro API.

Example of Attention Line in Business Letters
In many cases you may want to write to a firm or organization but you do not know the name of the individual to whom you should address it. In such a situation, the addition of an attention line can ensure that the letter is routed to the appropriate person.
Tumblr media
When writing an attention letter, which is two lines below the inside address, should include the recipient's name and title, if available. If the recipient's name is known, it may be possible to skip this portion of the address and merely begin with Dear Mr./Ms./Mrs./Dr.
The next line should contain the recipient's full street address, which is sometimes referred to as the delivery address line by the U.S. Postal Service. This line should be left-justified and two lines below the date. It is helpful to note the recipient's suite number or other identifying information in this line as well. Depending on the circumstances, it may also be useful to indicate whether or not you are including any enclosures. If so, this should be noted on the bottom of the page using the words "Enclosures" followed by a list of the items. For example, (Enclosures: product brochures and photos) would be appropriate. You should also consider noting if the correspondence is personal or confidential in this reference line as well, which can help prevent unintended disclosures.
