Story time!

a.k.a some unrelated thoughts that happened to pop into my head.

I'm not a big accessory person. I like to wear old man caps in the colder months, a bucket hat in the summer, and I don't wear any kind of jewelry that wasn't forced upon me (hi mom). But there was a period in my life where I wore a bracelet that my friend in junior high got me. It was supposed to be like a friendship thing because everyone in my friend group had one.

It wasn't a fancy bracelet, it was a 'bracelet' that was literally one piece of rope tied in such a way that it could be worn on your wrist but to it was the only accessory that I've ever worn consistently for a period of time. Note the past tense because yea, at some point I lost it. Don't remember how or when but one day I woke up and could not for the life of me remember where I'd put the damn thing.

And I never thought about it again because life goes on and I'm not as close as I'd like to be with that friend group anymore... until the memory resurfaced today today. So I did a quick google search and the closest thing I could find to it was something called a 'nautical rope bracelet' but specifically, this one.

The one I had looked exactly like this (as far as I can remember) Except it couldn't be this specific one because this thing cost $11.45 on amazon (when it's not on sale), and not something a junior high schooler with a junior high schoolers pocket money on a trip to Malioboro can afford five or six of.

Of course, this is Indonesia we're talking about and the markets on Malioboro street are home to lots of hidden treasures to look for or stumble upon so the chances of finding this or at the very least a similar product at a much, much, much cheaper cost is not entirely zero.

Anyway, I'm now struck with a profound sadness because I now realize that I have lost something I truly did love and am debating getting this one because even though it's not the same as the one my friend got me, it's still similar enough to invoke the feelings I felt when I had my old one.

So I said I had Thomas on the brain after the owl city ask so here's what my brain worms have cooked up.

Thomas' love language is gift giving.

Usually his gifts are expensive but there's this one time he gave his s/o a painting. It was back when he was still an art student trying to impress his crush but he remembers it was a painting of a wisteria tree in bloom with a person's silhouette underneath it.

Years have passed since then and they actually did start dating but he had all but forgotten about that painting until he came over to their place for the first time and saw that postcard sized canvas panel standing on their desk, next to their computer, inside a frame.

Then he actually sees Rafayel's paintings and I think his reaction can line up with the two verses in the song,

Her pepper spray made it rather hard for me to walk her home

But I guess that's the way it goes.
